    Somebody informed me that some of the gunwriters and such are referring to this new blued Python as the "2024 Python." I could not confirm that anywhere on the Colt site.
    Surely, every finish on the same firearm is not going to get a new model name???? How weird would THAT be. Sorry if I'm not in sync with the rest of the world, but to ME it will always be a "2020 Python" with a Blue finish. If they offer it with Cerekote finishes or in nickel finish, it will still be a "2020 Python" with a different finish. Now if they change the design of the action or something, that's a different story.

      @heiner71 6 місяців тому +5

      Interestingly they restarted the serial number range. All the stainless guns start with PY and then count up. The blue one is PB and counting up again from 1.

    • @576103
      @576103 6 місяців тому

      The fact it has a different serial number range suggests further that Colt is treating it like a different model (although I admit to a lack of expertise and don’t know how they numbered the original stainless guns as compared to the original blued guns-did they have a separate serial number sequence also?)

    Nice that Colt (CZ owned) had decided to make the new Python not just in stainless steel, but now in blued carbon steel. Stainless makes for a firearm that requires less anti-corrosion maintenance, but there is something special about a well polished and deeply blued firearm.

    He hit the nail on the head. The original python was made on 50s tooling, had hours of hand fitting by trained and expensive humans. If you want such a gun today- ok fine. expect $5k and a long wait list. See the MR73 for reference. Todays machining is and production methods are to the point that we can get 95% of there for $1500. All new products have teething trouble. My python is from 2022- zero issues. I have the feeling the people who dog the new guns are old farts who want a 1975 python at less than $1k and "it aint like it was blah blah". As an older fart myself, there is nothing I hate more than people who complain that "it isn't what it used to be"...well not all things can be or are necessarily worse.

    These guns shine in double action as they come stock. The 2020 pythons have a small ridge on the sear that was built in to make them drop safe. If you watch really closely when pulling in single action, the hammer actually moves a little bit backwards before being released.

    I hoped Colt would be able to bring back the blued Pythons. I'm thrilled at the result - they look fantastic compared to the originals, and their timing should hold up better over time. My only big complaint is that they added an additional vent on top of the barrel on the 4.25" model. It makes the gun look too crowded and more like an older Taurus than an actual Python. Not sure what Colt was thinking when they changed a highly anticipated legacy design randomly, especially since the 4.25" stainless models retain the standard 2-vent setup and look great.
    Deer Hollow makes excellent reproduction grips that are closer to the originals, thicker, and better looking than the laminate ones that come on the new guns too IMO. And hey, at least that silly QR code is better than the ugly S&W internal lock and the J/K frame reshape that came with it! And as always, thanks for the excellent wheelgun content.

      @@toddschutter6535 On the stainless models, yes. But the only barrel lengths presently announced for the new blued models are 6" and 4.25". The 6" has the proper 3-vent setup, but they added a vent to make three on the 4.25", which usually only had two. The stainless guns still have the proper setup, which makes it even more strange that Colt would change things for the blued ones.

    They messed up adding a 3rd vent on the 4.25 blue. The bluing also looks black instead of the nice bluing on the original but still nice so either the 3" or the 6" for me since the 4.25 blue looks like a Taurus

    • @FCV0511
      @FCV0511 6 місяців тому +2

      I completely agree. I was looking forward to the 4.25" model until it was unveiled with that extra vent. What a ridiculous and unnecessary change to make to a legacy design prized for its looks.

    • @hkfifty871
      @hkfifty871 6 місяців тому

      Thanks for this, because I’d noticed that there was SOMETHING that felt off about the 4.25” model when I look at it, but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. I’d look at it and just be underwhelmed with it somehow not looking as good as what I was expecting. And sure enough, after this comment, I look at it, and it’s that extra vent that ruins it for me.
      For the life of me, I cannot figure out why on earth Colt went with it. Especially when the 4.25” stainless doesn’t have that extra vent.
      Just… why?

    I picked up a 4" blue last Friday and shot a hundred rounds through it over the weekend.
    I like the finish on it, I think it's close to the original Royal Blue but trying to compare it with my 70's era Pythons it's hard to tell.
    The single action trigger is horrible and mine will pay a visit to my gunsmith to fix that and the double action as well.
    Do I love the revolver? Well no not really but I like it. After I get it back from the smith I think I might love it.
    I'm going to tell my gunsmith that I want the trigger as smooth as any of my Model 27's. If he can do that, then I'll be a happy shooter.
    Thanks for the honest review.

    No thanks. It's a tool. So I bought the Matte 4.25 and guess what......it shoots just as good as a blue one for $400 less and it's still a Python.
    I really like my first Colt. My Unicorn Colt at that. But I must be honest. My S&W feel way better in the hand and points naturally. I'm going to get more trigger time and soon will love the Python just as much.
    My two wish list revolvers are now in hand.
    S&W Mdl 57-5 .41 Mag Mountain Gun and the 4.25" Python. Life is good!

    The easiest way to determine if a Python is "original" or the "2020" version is to look at the hammer spur. The original Python has a larger spur, which was (another) unique feature of the "original".

    With regards to the rear sights, I replaced the one on my Anaconda and both Pythons with the Wilson Combat versions. The Colt requires a .050" allen wrench to loosen a tiny set screw when adjusting for windage. As your turning the adjustment screw, there's no "click" to be felt or heard so you have no idea how much the sight had moved. Then you tighten the set screw and this is complete trial and error. And of course Colt can't be bothered to INCLUDE the 10 cent wrench needed for the set screw. Very disappointing considering the cost of these revolvers. Colt put a lot into the redesign of the Python and Anaconda only to fall completely short when it comes to the rear sight. I expected much better from them.
