I chose mine before the Ally X was a thing. And I went with the Go. To me the main thing that would have been better with the Ally X is the increased amount of RAM as RAM bottlenecks is definitely a thing when playing on an iGPU. Freesync definitely would have been great. I think that is a reason why they went with a portrait display since that makes the tearing vertical as opposed to horizontal. The reason I got the Go instead of the Ally was mainly the large screen. I rarely ever use it on battery and basically have it as my play in bed device. So neither the weight nor the larger battery on the Ally X is a massive draw for me.
@@johbyuhan In traditional analog sticks, the Potentiometers (chip inside the analog sticks that read voltage changes to determine the X and Y Axis) are usually graphite pads. over time these graphite pads will tear down and become dull where most cases of "Stick Drift" stems from. A got a Legion GO a while ago. I'm supper happy with it. I have triple boot on it. 1. windows for gaming 2. bazzite 3. windows dedicated for work. It works like a charm. I love the detachable controllers, I usually play laying on my back, LeGO on my belly with the kick stand and controllers next to me in hands. If I play it with controllers attached it is a bit heavy and is uncomfortable after a while. When I use it for work the FPS mode "mouse" with a keyboard work anywhere perfectly, my clients just watch in amazement when I setup for the meeting. Note: 2230 with adapter works perfectly for LeGO SS upgrade.
You're right. The Lenovo Legion Go is a great handheld with a great screen, the thing that sucks is that you look goofy taking out in public. i sold it last week along with my steam deck then I got a rog ally x. When I got the rog ally x it took me a few days to get use to the smalls screen but since it's small, it's better for portability.
@@HipHopFanatic-s8yyeah the X just makes sense, the native resolution of 1080p is way more consistent than the useless res of 1600p that the Go has. The vram being able to be set to 8 and left there is way better knowing that you have 16 left for system memory. The go’s battery life sucks and you always have to be plugged in, constantly tinkering with the resolution, 1600p just doesn’t do it and if I wanted to game at 800p I could have just stuck with my SD. Basically makes the large screen useless, the X screen size is just right, slightly bigger than a S24 ultra and it’s just right for playing away from an outlet now because of the bigger battery. It just makes more sense and is way better, I can now play all my games away from my desktop without having to worry about what res to play it on and having to tinker and always be connected to an outlet or portable power bank. People in the comments just saying the Go is better because they’ve spent the money and now they feel like 800 is too much for another handheld but this thing is worth every penny. This Is a true handheld and the Go doesn’t come close to the overall package in my opinion. Finally don’t have to power lift this huge device anymore, hopefully I can find somebody to sell the GO to. It’s more of a prototype instead of a solid and reliable portable gaming device.
As others have mentioned. The screen and the removable controllers is what made me stay with the Go. Once u tried that 8.8 screen is hard to go back to that 7
I think these are two awesome devices, but I love the Legion Go for its flexibility and the fact that I can unplug the joypads as I connect it also often to the TV. I can't complain about any software problems (I use 'handheld companion' and it works very good) and on my recent 3 week trip I used it as main computer.
As I'm getting older I'm having trouble with these smaller screens. I tried them both but ultimately kept the Go even though the X was the better performer. It was just way easier to see the tiny UI interfaces some games have on the Go's larger screen. They performed very very similarly so it ultimately comes down to personal preference!
I would probably go with the ROG Ally X due to the larger battery and more RAM, but the price makes it a pass. I do prefer the size of the screen and higher resolution on the Legion Go. I was able to get a new 1TB Legion Go for a total of $502 at Micro Center a few weeks back. For the price it was a definite....Go!
@@nickalexander4503 the Miami Micro Center store had just opened and had various deals. They had the 1TB Legion Go on sale for $519.99 along with 10% off if you use the store card. It's now back to regular price.
@@Pariah392 i got one for almost a year now. Its a great device i never had any problems with it. It only starts to lag with like 10% battery when on 30w but its normal windows thing. Good device but a bit heavy if u ask me
The SteamDeck OLED is not in the same class as these two handhelds. It does not have better compatibility. Let's be real. I have one it's great, but there are many games it does not play or at least play well. The screen is fantastic. Before anyone says, but steam os, you can use steam os on the Ally and the Lego. So if you have to have steam os there's that option. Again not a hater, I have one, but this blind Steam Deck beats everything is getting a bit silly.
If you’re referring to the games that don’t work well it’s due to anti-consumer developers like Activison that couldn’t give a shit about Linux and put anti-cheat on windows only. Not valves fault, developers. Also the price.
Agreed. Half my library is unsupported or plays poorly on the deck and runs great on my Ally X. Ally also runs all the supported games at a higher resolution and framerate with increased graphics settings. I just don't see how the deck is really an option anymore. Sure it's great but Valve needs to release a Deck 2 now to be more competitive.
@@clintk4691 Your library isn't like all "unsupported". Steam's verified system is very unreliable. Most "unsupported games" work fine. This is why ProtonDB is such a useful tool
The Steam Deck is better optimized for saving battery than the first gen ROG ALLY. That's why Asus decided "Screw helping the buyers of the first gen ROG ALLY, let's make a revision that makes the first gen obsolete." They must of known they'd ditch supporting the first design because why even put the same batter capacity as a first gen Steam deck when THEY KNEW the ROG Ally has a higher resolution and more battery demanding chip set. Sadly I own both the ROG ALLY and Steam Deck. First gen ROG ALLY dies way too fast but it does play games with better performance. Also my ALLY doesn't read micro SD cards, developed stick drift and has some weird battery issue where it thinks it's charging when it's not even plugged in. Steam Deck is just wayyy mor3 reliable.
@samirseballos7143 for now I am trying everything on these 3 devices. PC games and emulators. I will be honest Rog Ally X is going to be my favorite. It's perfect for my hand and runs every games that I love. But all 3 are amazing and I am 38, it's amazing to see we can play our old games and modern games in palm of our hand.
@@samirseballos7143 I have a Go and SD and love and use both slightly differently , Go a Deck for the ease of gaming, get a Go if you plan on using it as a PC Aswell, Deck has a desktop mode that's highly functional but depends on your liking of Linux although it'll make you love Linux, Go for versatility
I have all 3. Ally for travel with bazzite, legion go at home. Screen for the go is something special. Steam deck is amazing too, just the 80wh battery is phenomenal for the allyx.
@@hassb6348 I think that's the main reason I didn't consider the Ally x, I play everything at home lol but if on the go I'd definitely either go Ally X or just bring a battery pack for the Legion Go, That Go is something in its own lane
I picked up the Legion Go on a whim at around $400 USD second hand, and even though I have so many handhelds already, I couldn't believe I can actually fall in love with a handheld they way I did with the Go. That screen is simply gorgeous, and big enough to fit any game comfortably. I wouldn't take it commuting, though. Mayyybe a plane. But indoors? Nothing beats this sexy beast haha
Another thing to consider is the OG ally. Still has the same Z1 Extreme chip, 16Gb of ram, the freesync 120htz 1080p panel. and you can find them for $400-$450 in the used market regularly thanks to the release of the Ally X. If you can deal with the screen being the size of the Ally X, its otherwise the same specs as the Legion Go for way less.= money. (you can find the non-extreme version of the ally for even cheaper, but its basically e-waste. dont bother.) Ive had the OG Ally since launch, and i love it. Especially paired with Lossless Scaling, its been able to play every game i throw at it.
@@jponz85 my opinon about the non-extreme ally was based around a short window of use right when it released. and i found the performance to be far worse at the time. im not suprised to hear its improved wit time and driver updates.
@@fairplayer916 bought OG open box ally from best buy Canada few days ago for just $400. It's a steal. The Ally X is around $1100+ taxes here. The difference in price can't be justified
I love the bigger screen of the Legion Go and the colors. it's easier to read the info in games. I recently made it dual boot to play emulated games and leave it suspended when necessary. and it works perfectly for me. As for the battery, I normally play at home and occasionally at my office and I have a battery bank if it needs extra juice.
@@CDNShuffleyes, you can. if you feel it's not doing it, under bios you can change the charging speed under heavy load to medium (that's how I have it). since by default is in slow. that way if you like play for a while unplugged, you can continue playing while is plugged in.
I'm liked both Ally X & Legion Go than Deck OLED. From that top 2 Windows 11 handheld gaming, I'm preferred Ally X because I need more battery life. Didn't want to always charging & always near to power source or charging battery pack. Ally X satisfied my gaming need already ❤
I am happy with lgo had ally extreme but after using go i can’t go back to small screen. Plus as shown in video performance jump isn’t huge. Not worried about battery only use it at home.
Finally someone who recognizes the legion go as a top choice. I love mine. If I bought another, I'd go with the ally x because of the battery and ram. Like I said though, I still love my Go.
I don't deny the Ally X has better performance because of more RAM, but Legion Go's detachable controller is hard to beat. Also, if you think about it, Lenovo inadvertently made an 8.8" Windows tablet. The last time I saw a Windows tablet around the 8" size was Lenovo's Miix 2 8.
Got a steam deck. Bought a LeGo . Returned it and got a ROG ally. Now i cant stop thinking about that 8.8 inch screen. That 7 inch screen on the Ally feels like such a downgrad
I had the Ally Extreme and Go at same time with the idea of trying them and returning 1 or both. I ended up keeping the Go because of the screen. I preferred the Ally in almost every way. But after playing the Go for a while, I could not go back to the 7 inch screen.
Yeah once you go large you can't go back. Not only this but with certain games you need that large size to see anything for example racing games that you need to see what's ahead of you at super fast speeds. I have the OG Ally and still love it but I mainly play my racing games on the Go instead.
I'm on the wrong side of 40. 7 inch displays simply don't cut it for me anymore. Too many moden games are using tiny UI elements and I'm tired of feeling like I have to strain my eyes to see anything. The Go has a lot that I don't love about it, but I would not trade it for any other handheld. The 8.8 inch display is just glorious. Really hoping that 8 inch displays become the norm since Nintendo is going with one for the Switch 2.
@@dominickzaucha Went that route for a bit with the Deck. Definitely helped. Going from a 7 inch to an 8.8 inch display is wild. It is REALLY hard to go back. C'mon Valve, give me an 8 inch Steam Deck 2 OLED.
Go all the way. The ally and ally x will bump apu wattage to 43w for a couple minutes when it gets stressed. You can easily make the go do that. The advantages of the X do not out weight the advantages of the Go. A bigger screen alone is worth it for me. Hall effect joy sticks, detachable controllers, touch pad, Higher resolution, faster screen, larger screen. And you still get 100w charging and 7500mhz memory. A travel case that you can charge the Go in, while on the go.
The display on the Ally actually not as good as people thought, it got VRR though but the color, brightness and resolution is worse. Also the 1600p screen is perfect to run games in 800p with GPU and integer scaling
Tbh with these two units it comes to preference. I now play on the ally x and my son has my old lego. The size of the lego screen is awesome, like trully awesome, but the ally feels better in my hands. Hall effect sticks are great on paper, but they always felt really loose to me. The sticks on the ally x have a great feel with their tension, and they are designed to be easily replaceable with after market hall effect sticks. Swapping the ssd in the ally x is way easier than in the lego, first thing i did, and with 2280 drives and a mico sd , i hava a 5.5 tb ally x . This isnt currently possible with the lego, i think the max you could go with a 2242 drive or a 2230 with an adapter and mico sd would be 3.5 tb. The ally x has superior speakers, there really is no argument here. VRR is nice, as well as amd afmf, much of afmf can be negated with buying the $7 lossless interger scaling program on steam for the lego ( the x can use it to but why). Plus the afmf argument might soon be negated , word on the street is afmf 2 will work on both units. So graphically both run games very well and have great graphics. The lego is big, for me too big , but hey, that comes to preference. Dont get me wrong a x with an 8 inch screen would be amazing. The controllers on the go always felt gommicky to me, i almost never detached them, as they cannot be used for 2 player like a switch. But the times i did try it fps mode worked flawlessly. It wasnt an option i used, and without an aftermarket protector, think killswitch but offbrand, i felt they wobbled on the unit , which always made me worry about a breaking point after long use. The battery on the x is aweome. The ability to charge at100 watts is great. That said it was rare i was playing too far from an outlet somewhere, so that argument is totally your preference. Personally i think armory crate is better, easier and more intuitive than legion space. Plus and this is a me thing, opening up ac i see my games, the next tab is my ally x's system. Opening up legion space the first thing i see is a store front where lenovo is trying to sell me more stuff. As a consumer that always bugged me, but hey like i said, that is totally a me thing. The x has more RAM, the end result is a few more fps,but it really is not a ton, and q lot of times is game dependant more than hardware dependant. If you got this far, i hope i helped, and that Prime isnt mad for the mega post. Do not be fooled by the fan boys either on the lego side or the x side. These 2 systems are so close it really comes down to your preference go to best buy and hold them, and see which feels better in your hands, if you have the money, go with that one. I chose the x because it is more compact and portable with a longer battery life, as well as being more upgradable. You may say the lego screen size wins the day. Both are valid. Hope to see you gaming. Side note on the resolution for the lego,. Depending on what you play. You will almost never play a AAA game on 1600p , your fps will be in the teens, and if you are unplugged expect your battery to run out rediculously fast. You will almost always drop resolution unless you are running old games on an emulator, or indy games. Most people run the x at 900p and the lego at 1200p or 900p
Hoping Legion go does more upgrades in the future. If they can do an oled screen, and improve the battery and improves the overall graphics with performances it can be a juggernaut
If you have a Legion Go, go into the bios and make sure the ram speed is set to 7500 as it is set to 6400 by default and APUs really need that RAM running as fast as possible.
The go has 7500mhz memory too..Considering the Go is almost a year older than the X it still competes. Can't overlook the fact the go comes with a nice case, that you can charge the device in.
The Go is trash bro, if you play both you’ll know how much worse it is. Can’t even enable RSR and AFMF because of the orientation they had to use because of the massive screen. The engineers didn’t think the Go all the way through. Show me any game you’re playing on the Legion Go and I’ll show you how much better the Ally X is performance wise
@@lorenzothomas2612 The screen is from a tablet, that is why the native orientation is portrait, but I have never seen it cause an issue. Even if performance is slightly higher on the x the bigger screen on the go makes it much better. I would happily go from 50 to 43 fps for a biggter, faster, higher resolution screen. The ally x is also quite a bit more expensive. To be honest I havn't taken my go out of the case since I got the Minisforum v3. 14" screen and 32gb of ram with bazzite is perfect for gaming. If i am worried about fps Id use my desktop. The ally x only has a larger battery, and 8gb more ram over the go. Everything else the Go has had since last year, and the X still doesnt beat the screen. I had the steam deck, the ally and the go. For me, the larger screen makes all the difference. A 5-10% increase in performance is not worth it for me to go from 8.8" to 7". Might not sound like a big difference but when you're trying to get the crosshairs on someones head, it is.
@@lorenzothomas2612 the main reason the ally x will out perform the Go in benchmarks is because the ally and ally x overclock to 43w for a couple minutes when first stressed. The Go does not go past 32ish watts. I have my go so it will do 45 watts for 1024 seconds so i am willing to bet my go will benchmark faster than the x. It has the same speed memory and the same processor. More ram really only helps when the settings require it but it doesn't necessarily speed up fps.
This!! But I'd also like to add that the only reason the Ally X gets dismally better performance in games at a given top is because of the way the driver splits the wattage between the CPU and GPU. Run pretty much any game with only 4 or 6 cores enabled and watch how much faster your frame rates are. Zen 4 cores are hella powerful and can easily handle most any game with just 4 cores enabled leaving much more juice for the GPU to spread its wings. Ontop of that I get about a 15 - 20% boost just by tweaking the memory timings.. luckily I got Samsung ram in my unit so I was easily able to tighten alot of the timings. The thing is a beauty too.. and can slide in a professional setting as well. Try doing that with those rgb racing stripes..😅 does that little toy even have a kickstand?
Lenovo Legion go has the form factor, the fact that you can take the controls off and use it like a normal tablet is a huge plus. They just need to improve the design of the controllers and better game UI.
It was a very hard decision between the Ally X or Legion Go… I ended buying the legion go last month mainly because the screen size. In most videos I’ve seen like these, the Ally X does outperform the Legion Go, but only by a small margin. They both basically play the same and I’ve yet to have any issues playing on my Go. I play all my AAA games at 30 watts and I bought this charging dock station off Amazon for it that has dual cooling fans, looks very nice. I definitely recommend getting a charging dock station if you buy any portable PC. I always get smooth and fast gameplay, also solid fps numbers. I have a ps5 but I’ve always been more into portable gaming, especially when I travel. All the games I play on my ps5 look just as great on my legion go, I’m honestly happy with it.
I love my legion go, i can detach the controllers, put on vertical and very confortable read and browse the web, put files where i want, so i’m not restricted like in an iPad.
I got a GO a while back. I don't play on it too often so every time I was greeted with windows update and/or legion software update. I am running bazzite now - much happier even with smaller library(lets face it - still thousands of games available). It has a lot of gimmicks, but in the end it is still solid device.
As someone who has both: legion go if you don’t plan on ever being too far away from an outlet, ally if you want something a bit more portable. I will say windows is more usable on the legion due to the inclusion of a trackpad.
I like my GO. Good comparison, BUT would be better it was the original Ally and not the revision Ally X. Kinda like comparing an XSX to a PS5 Pro (when it eventually drops).
I have the ROG Ally. Last week, i have installed linux on an legion go. The legion go is over all the better product. Better performance and better battery performance than my rog ally 1st gen.
Yeah but way more expensive. The Ally X exceeds the Legion Go in every way, the 1440p screen is useless when you can only run games at 1080p low settings.

Love my Legion Go, especially when playing remotely PS5 on it. Top notch display as the screen is excellent 👌🏾 VRR is not a big deal Legion still performs very well
I do like the Ally X, Legion Go, and Steam Deck OLED but the Ally X is my favorite. Better battery life on the X as well. I also prefer the Ally's screen over the Go as a rare opinion. I just don't find the Go's screen as fascinating as others. The extra ram also makes performance more consistent. I also don't like the back buttons on the Legion Go at all, they're in bad positions, too easy to click, and too big. The Ally and X as well as the Steam Deck have significantly better back buttons that get in the way far less. D-Pad also isn't the greatest on the Legion either. Ally has better software and Asus's constant updating is better than Lenovo's occasional updates every 3-6 months
back in January i bought the Rog ally and then 2 days later i bought the legion go. i spent 2 days using them both and ended up returning the RoG ally. The Rog Ally is good but i really wish it was a bigger screen which is why i kept the legion Go. the big screen just feels so amazing. hopefully when never handhelds are released, Asus will come out with a bigger one to match the legion go IMO.
In my country, in some stores, you can find the Legion Go costing near half the price of the Rog Ally X. I really want to buy the Rog Ally, because of its bigger battery and the VRR display, but at this price difference, its quite the hard choice.
VRR is a big difference, it looks so much smoother than the Legion’s screen. Everybody talking about the Go being 8 inches but it’s not smooth at all, didn’t know how bad it looked until I got the Ally. It’s way better than the Legion’s Go for actual on the go gaming, the Go is just cool to look at but the screen isn’t all that I reality. No VRR really hurt it.
@@lorenzothomas2612 Yeah yeah, once I experimented how increadible useful VRR can be for those games which the hardware strugles to run, this feature became a must have for me, even more so when dealing with these type of devies, which hardware is quite lacking in terms of stable/smooth framerate capacity. That's why I still didn't buy the Legion Go, even costing so much less the the Rog Ally X....
I'm happy with my Legion Go. I was curious about the X, but seeing this video, there is no reason to get it since I have the Legion Go. Also, detachable controllers and touchpad are what makes this device perfect for me.
So I am going to be traveling to France in a month and battery life for 6-8 hour plane rides either direction was what drove my choice. I've had the X for about 2 weeks and am in love with it. Sure, I'd love a bigger screen, but playing some indies for 10-12 hours on a charge is what sold me.
Just got my Legion on 8/23/24 and man im sooo happy with it, my Alienware m17 r2 died on me about three weeks ago and it was either this or a ps5 and man this thing is way too cool lol got me a Uperfect 2k 144hz monitor jsaux dock and razer mouse and keyboard, new main setup now no doubt
Im gonna buy one tomorrow. The asus rog ally is on sale for 549 the og model. Gonna try it first then try to legion go again. If the legion is better ill stick wit it but if not ill get the ally x. Battery is now important to me, but mainly ram. I need exrra ram
I'd probably go for the Ally X simply because I want it also as a laptop replacement. I'll be rocking a USBC-Display connected external monitor to do double-screen multitasking and then bringing it on the train as a mobile desktop. It'll be nice to also use it in situations where i just don't have enough space for a laptop, but still wanna play some indie or emulated games. But I do have a Lenovo Legion laptop that's been an absolute beast for two years, and it makes me want to get the Legion Go :p
I take my Lenovo Legion Go to work for my 1 hour lunch break so battery life doesn't really matter to me. But the higher resolution screen and the larger screen really make playing games on it look great with integer scaling. I don't run most games at 1080p or 1600p. I render them at 800P and scale them up so I think doing that should end up on top despite the extra ram available on the ROG Ally.
Reviewers never talk about Asus’s horrible and border-line unethical customer support. That’s kind of a big deal when the Ally X is already having failing reports. Don’t buy either unless you change the OS to Linux. In my opinion, modular joycons, Hall effect thumb sticks, bigger grips, and screen makes the Go king with Linux. I love it. I don’t understand the obsession for battery life. If you’re on a plane you have power options. Also if you don’t have a battery pack in your bag, why are you bringing a handheld. Also the fact it’s a tablet makes it very usable. Recently brought it to a friends house for game night and it easily connected to their tv, easily connected 3 more controllers, and we had a blast.
I returned my ally X because the joystick would crunch and felt horrible. I got the legion to and haven’t had any problems. Asus has awful quality control.
It may just be mine, but I notice the Ally X tends to pull more power running the same games than the legion go which I would be less surprised in if it was reversed due to powering the bigger higher refresh rate screen. In 3D Mark for instance, its pulling up to 79W compared to the 72W on the LG, but the LG is still scoring higher, and this is with the same dock and peripherals connected and same current AMD driver as opposed to the older official ones (and even the new ASUS one). I know these type-C leads with the wattage display, are likely not really accurate, but the consistent results on both are reliable enough. I found the same thing with my mates OG ally which could also explain why it drains so fast compared to the SD and LG. Its no surprise really for ASUS to ramp up power to get more performance, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was behind a lot of the heat issues with the OG Ally.
I think it would be nice if you spoke of 1% lows too, that matters. I feel like the ally x runs smoother than others because it offers better 1% lows, but i havent tested them or have seen reviews speaking of it
Although the Legion looks nice I just think it's too big. I had the first OneXPlayer which I thought was great, but it was quite bulky and heavy, I ended up selling it. The Steam Deck in my opinion has the same problem, I think it's just too big. I have the ROG Ally, perfect size for me, but if I play, I mostly use my Odin 2, although a smaller screen, but quite light and it feels very comfy. Being also older I always have to use glasses when I play, that's basically the reason why I stopped buying smaller devices, if I go on holiday I still take my RG351V though, I like the form factor.
Yeah the go is just way to big and the 1600p native res is just pointless. No VRR also makes frame drops look horrible, and it’s a pain to lug around. Too uncomfortable to play in confined spaces and the Ally is just the perfect size for playing anywhere. It’s so much better I’m glad I listened to my gut and bought it. I will be selling my Go first chance I get
Honestly if you get the GO now, it’d still be worth it. From a developers interview over the summer, they said plans and release dates for the legion GO 2 will probably be in like 2028
You forgot to mention that Armoy Crate has per game Gamepad control, working TDP controls and really responsive quick menu. Legion Space TDP is still broken after 9 Months (try setting it to 13W or 20W), also bugs with Gamepad controlls etc. Also the go got a native Portrat screen that causes problems in some games and no AFMF posible, where the Ally has native Landscape.
I’ve had a legion go for 4 months now since day one setting it to 13 or 20 or any watts works perfectly for me. Idk if it’s another persons system why it won’t set but mine works amazing.
These are nitpicks at best. TDP setting works just fine, as do all modern games since the past 20 years or so, portrait or no. And who even needs AFMF when you have Lossless Scaling?
Nice compare. For me I do MMOs and that small 7” compare to that 8.8” the GO is MUCH better for MMOS than the smallr screen. Be nice to see some MMOS comparing with the 2 systems and not just pew pew and racing games.
I have a Legion Go with Bazzite (SteamOS copy) and I love it (no buyers remorse for the last year) - The bigger screen was the decider for me and setting the VRAM to 6GB I've had no issues (all this stuff on screen tearing ive never witnessed on this screen = including when playing Starfield when it droops to 30fps from around 45fps it feels good) I play most games at 16:10 ratio = 1680 by 1050 with fsr where is available (Starfield / D4 / Last Epoch run well) Note: I always play wired on the couch Looking forward to the new AMD AI 300 npu's for the next upgrade with 32GB ram but im happy for now.
Why is the VRAM usage on the Legion Go so much lower than the Ally X? That’s curious, is Lenovo limiting the size of the VRAM allocation for the iGPU? Just found it interesting that the Ally X had almost twice as much VRAM being used in your tests.
Upgraded soon as the Go came out and the only thing i really want is more battery. Its chunky at this point and extra heft wouldnt bother me at this point, i know what id be getting into. Screen tearing being verticle actually made me not see it for so long as i wasnt looking for it. GTA V@ 1600p is what made me clock it due to locking at 30fps without v-sync @144 rather than 60hz @ half refresh in game.
So how are they tested against one another, when you hook them to a screen that is 27-32 inches for prolonged gaming? And then with keyboard and mouse ect. So on the go I can see them being close but what about them being docked? Will that 24gb ram really shine there for a larger display?
I already have the legion Go and I love the heck outta it, but the only problem I've ever had is that longer gameplay the grips hurt my hands. I wear a size L-XL in gloves so I don't have baby hands. I might get the ally x it looks comfortable
I have a Legion Go and I'm happy with It but if I didn't have one and if I could buy one again I would get the Ally X. More RAM and battery is what I need. Yet not enough to invest in a new system right now. I'll wait a few years for a new generation of handhelds capable of moving AAA games in ultra.
What about walled/docked performance at maximum power? I’m considering one of those (or maybe an old z1 extreme) to use mostly on my tv, plugged in. I was about to pull the trigger on the GO but saw in this video that the wattage can go much higher in the X. Is that true? I don’t get the “ten second” thing he mentioned while explaining the max wattage in the X. Help me please!
I bought the steam deck and sold it for the OG rog ally, which I then sold for the legion, and then sold it on ebay. Now i have nothing but my phone. Wish I wasn't so indecisive 😞
Is the text in games like chat or menus harder to read than the other? I get one screen is bigger, but you can still read it without squinting on the ally x right?
If You had to Choose One? Legion GO Of ALLY X let me know
Legion Go because of its form factor and larger screen.

Ally X
@@CaptainRex332 The Ally X does have better ergonomics
For my use, the detachable controls make the legion go my choice, made it my iPad/laptop replacement that can now game
The Legion Go's screen resolution is 1600p not 1440p. The Legion Go's joysticks are hall effect as well.
Sorry I ask, what is hall effect?!
@@johbyuhan In traditional analog sticks, the Potentiometers (chip inside the analog sticks that read voltage changes to determine the X and Y Axis) are usually graphite pads. over time these graphite pads will tear down and become dull where most cases of "Stick Drift" stems from. Hall Effects fixes this by replacing graphite pads with Magnets thus prolonging analog sticks in the long run
@@iBangAPES thank you so much for your information

Do you think i could install Bazzite using only 100GB and install my games on a 512 sd card?

The screen is what sold me on the GO. I HATE the bezels on the Ally
@@HipHopFanatic-s8y I did the same yesterday. Really hoping I get used to this smaller screen. Other than that I really like the ROG Ally X more.
The go has big bezels also 😂
@@HipHopFanatic-s8yyeah the X just makes sense, the native resolution of 1080p is way more consistent than the useless res of 1600p that the Go has.
Both are literally surrounded by a bezel...
Legion GO is amazing... The controllers can be removed, which is a huge plus point.

I gave the legion go to my kid once I got the Ally x. Better ergonomics, software, battery, and more Ram for the GPU.
You can't even argue ergonomics is better with the ally lmfao, software maybe and and the ram and GPU barely changes anything

Both are excellent. Screen for the legion go sold me

I did the opposite, sold the Asus and went legion go: the Asus’ screen is way too small
Exactly how im feeling, even tho rog ally is the better device but that screen is too small
Well return Ally and buy Ally X. Completely different world with that battery and added power.

@@steliosvestarchis1538 have you tried the aly x? currently weighing pros and cons for my decision on what to buy
I am torn between the two here. Want that beautiful legion screen but also the battery of Ally X.
Si😅
I mean, i wouldnt reccomend this but you COULD try soldering a better battery into the lgo, if you have the patience to learn how.
If you have a Legion Go, go into the bios and make sure the ram speed is set to 7500 as it is set to 6400 by default and APUs really need that RAM running as fast as possible.
The screen on Legion, go, was the reason why I got it
The go has 7500mhz memory too..Considering the Go is almost a year older than the X it still competes.

My ally is loud, hot and the battarie is draining so fast. In 45 Minutes Its empty.
@@marcelm.2170Ally X is black , is much sleeker and more portable than the Legion Go . The Ally X is better in every way - Ally X is the best handheld ever made .
@@marcelm.2170you are comparing the OG Ally and not the Ally X. The Ally X has the biggest and efficient battery at the moment.
Only reason i got the GO over the X was because at the time it was on sale for under $700 for the 1tb version.
back in January i bought the Rog ally and then 2 days later i bought the legion go. i spent 2 days using them both and ended up returning the RoG ally. The Rog Ally is good but i really wish it was a bigger screen which is why i kept the legion Go. the big screen just feels so amazing.
hopefully when never handhelds are released, Asus will come out with a bigger one to match the legion go IMO.
Man i like the legion go form factor and size much better but the smaller battery and lack of VRR is just really bad imo
this one of the best comparison video between rog ally x avd the legion go as always great stuff thank you
hey, nice vid, whats the wallpaper you're using?
I have the same issue. The Go is significantly cheaper the the X. Love the big screen but I really want the X.
70 FPS in the Cyberpunk Benchmark running 1080p? Was an eGPU attached?
well as long as they both can do greater than 60fps i'm good with it
I love my LeGo!! I paid only $591 open box at best buy.
I got an adapter on Amazon for my Legion Go that lets it take a 2280. I put a 4tb drive in mine with no issues
My 2023 RoG ally works fine and my new Ally X works just as good, im done with buying another one until they upgrade to thunderbolt 5
Thunderbolt 5 is going to be amazing! I might get a chance to test something soon, looking forward to that new Bandwidth
I will definitely be waiting for that video, Thunderbolt 5 should easily outshine the XG Mobile. 👍
only thing the legion go has over the Ally X is the larger screen.
@@thejustinjustin1233 really my rog ally x is fine..
I’m gonna lean towards the Legion Go. Love that screen!!!😬😬😬😬
I will be selling my Go first chance I get
I go for the legion go but waiting for the upgraded version, that one is gonne be even better!
I have a Legion Go with Bazzite (SteamOS copy) and I love it (no buyers remorse for the last year) -
The bigger screen was the decider for me and setting the VRAM to 6GB I've had no issues
(all this stuff on screen tearing ive never witnessed on this screen = including when playing Starfield when it droops to 30fps from around 45fps it feels good)
I play most games at 16:10 ratio = 1680 by 1050 with fsr where is available (Starfield / D4 / Last Epoch run well)
Note: I always play wired on the couch
Looking forward to the new AMD AI 300 npu's for the next upgrade with 32GB ram but im happy for now.
Will steam os work both or just rog x?
I find it funny that in the US most people prefer Legion Go to ROG Ally X, while the opposite happened in my country.
Why is the VRAM usage on the Legion Go so much lower than the Ally X? That’s curious, is Lenovo limiting the size of the VRAM allocation for the iGPU? Just found it interesting that the Ally X had almost twice as much VRAM being used in your tests.
I whent from the legion go to the ally x and im really happy with it!
How did u get the Legion Live wallpaper!?? Been seeing lots of different ones online but I've had no luck..
Noticed ROG Ally X vs Ally Z1E performance mode default profiles are different.
Ally X is 17W
OG Ally is 15W
I already have the legion Go and I love the heck outta it, but the only problem I've ever had is that longer gameplay the grips hurt my hands. I wear a size L-XL in gloves so I don't have baby hands. I might get the ally x it looks comfortable
All i needed was this review!
Great review 👍👍waiting for ally 2 less bezel bigger screen hopefully. Than ally will be perfect any UA-camr kno when ally 2 will come out?????
I have a Legion Go and I'm happy with It but if I didn't have one and if I could buy one again I would get the Ally X. More RAM and battery is what I need.
Yet not enough to invest in a new system right now. I'll wait a few years for a new generation of handhelds capable of moving AAA games in ultra.
Hey bro do you own the onexplayer, ayaneo, aokzoe I have a question to ask if you own them
I'll just wait for a Legion Go 2 or the next iteration of it. Keep the size, fix all the issues, and improve what's good about it.
when will it come out Lego 2?
