When I played double exposure the first time I thought it canonically happens after the save the bay ending. Only the second time I accidentally went with the save chloe variant. The fact that somehow max ends up at exactly the same place in both realities just goes against everything the first game stood for: Every tiny choice can have massive consequences. I know following up a branching story is extremely difficult but the writers knew that too. So why did they try and up tying things up so lazily? The only thing connecting double exposure to the original is the name of the protagonist, some throwaway lines of dialogue and a couple of tweets from victoria. If that's all the writers could come up with they should've created a new protagonist.
She is a well renowned photographer in either endings so it isn't a huge leap to say they recruit her in both, but you're right in that it conflicts with the first game's message. Also they would never make a game where one ending is cannon mainly because it's a pretty 50/50 choice so half the playable would be pissed.

I think an after the storm game could work. 1st episode would focus on Max + Chloe dealing with their grief. Not 100% on the timeline, but I'm pretty sure they went to Canada (Biff national Park) and Michigan (Lake Superior) which are two of the most beautiful places on earth and would be an added bonus to the game. 2nd episode could focus more on Chloe's time in Haven point where we learn more about Steph and Gabe + see the pride parade Steph talked about. 3rd episode would be 1/2 in the away camp where we learn about David and Karen more, but we know Chloe and Max got into a huge argument which opens into the second half in New York where we fully experience the downfall of their relationship. Then a 4th (bonus) episode dedicated to the Bay option where we see Max and others deal with the grief of Chloe's death. This could also hammer in how no one knows about Max and Chloe's recent relationship, with characters blaming Max or just being confused on why she's so hung up about it; just so people who sacrificed Chloe get their fair share of guilt. I feel like this kinda solves the main problem of canonizing one ending by only dedicating 1 1/2 episodes to Max and Chloe and having the other half of the game be more focused on side characters who we didn't get to fully experience. And of course the bonus episode makes neither ending officially cannon, but if they had 3 full Max + Chloe episodes and slapped on 1 bay episode on top it would seem pretty lazy.
hm so what you listed are just fillers on events what we already broadly know or suspect, and not like bigger story with interesting events, what would cause Max to rewind again and have some new or old real antagonists she/they will face...

I don't like LIS for the story (except for lis 2), I like it because of the characters so I am biased when it comes to learning about the characters and not going deep into another mystery. Her rewind power could be like the morality in LIS 2 where there are major decisions where you can choose to rewind, and upon doing so Chloe grows more distant and maybe it changes the outcome of the fight they have in Arizona. These are all just ideas and the lack of an overarching story is a problem
If Deck Nine survives, I have always wanted to see a before the storm 2. I believe it may be possible now because of hearing the two main narrative directors of Double Exposure aren’t even in Deck Nine anymore and previous plans could be scrapped. So yeah, I think a game were we see Rachel Amber as the playable character is long overdue. I would love to see that and it might just get old fans back into the franchise.
I agree. There's a lot of time between BTS and LIS1 that I'd be very curious to see from the perspective of Rachel. We only ever see her through Chloe or other's eyes, so it's hard to truly understand her real feelings and motivations
I haven't played double exposure myself, so I don't have strong opinion on that. For me, Chloe is a big selling point of the fandom, and yeah breaking up made it equivalent to the sacrifice one, they should be aware that erasing Chloe will definitely lose the amount of the fandom because of it, especially if the writing felt like it was just a cover up to make double exposure makes sense. But, take it as a grain of salt, considering I never played the game myself, only saw a footage of it. I love life is strange to death (especially 2), so i really hope the future of the game won't flop, but i feel like the games have lost its charm when Decknine was in control.
Hello :) I’m worried about Life is Strange’s future, not gonna lie. As someone who liked Double Exposure, I don’t want to play a direct sequel. I don’t like the way the franchise is going, and I’m afraid the flaws of the game would be even more prominent in a next game. ESPECIALLY if other Life is Strange protagonists appear in it, because it would require to retcon the various endings of the games. I would rather play a game with a different protagonist, honestly. To be fair, I absolutely loved Max in Double Exposure, and I wouldn’t mind to see some other, minor characters again (let me romance Riley from True Colors, please ;D), but at the same time, it would likely feel like cheap fanservice. Familiar characters shouldn’t be the ONLY selling point a game has, even if I appreciate their return. So yeah, pretty much anything other than a direct sequel would be interesting to me, but I would always be worried nevertheless. Mostly because of the marketing and sales techniques Square Enix used for Double Exposure. Even if Deck Nine’s next game will be amazing, similar tactics would immediately throw me off! Oh well. For now, I’m more excited about Lost Records: Bloom & Rage anyway, so I hope you’ll talk about it too :)
I worry that, to the extent they had planted seeds in DE for "DE2" that would've made DE better in context, Square's new plans for LiS may abandon those seeds, and I'll still be left wondering how the original Deck 9 devs would've made "DE2."
I feel like the true colors spin off book was based on a scrapped sequel cause it reads like a LIS game more then Steph’s prequel book did. I’d love to see them create it as a game

Honestly i think they will do a direct sequel first thing first, they would have not put the text "Max Caulfield will return" if they didn't wanted to continue with this story. I quite liked DE, to be fair. I don't think Max is written badly or anything, and the game was overall very fun despite its problems. The thing that i really don't like of DE is that i feel like they splitted the game original history in two parts just for the sake of money and not really for a narrative purpose. I mean, DE has a lots of problems with its history as it is, and i don't think people should play a direct "fix it" sequel that makes sense of things in retrospect to really understand what was going on in the first one...this is bad writing at best, a very slimy marketing tactic at worst. Plus, I really hope the sequel will not bring back all the previous Lis protagonists like some sorts of Avangers. It would be weird, plus if people didn't like the way they handled the Bay vs. Bae thing i can't imagine what they will do to the endings of Lis 2...so yeah i really hope the sequel will continue to feature only Max and her current gang. I feel mixed about the possibility of Chloe being back because tbh i think it's obvious they are keeping her specifically to appear in the sequel. The teasing they did before the release of DE, the ambiguous way they responded to questions about her current abouts...this also feel like a marketing tactic to make people buy en masse the next game.
I've been dying for a Before The Storm season 2 for years ever since that post credits scene. Desperately clinging to the idea of Rachel being the protagonist and the game taking after Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me, showing us everything leading up to Rachel's disappearance.

Kate in the hospital said she's going back to Arcadia on Friday. And the storm hits the city on Friday. To me, it sounds like she went back to Arcadia just to die.
I disagree, have it be set up similar to how they ask about Chloe. Maybe while going though her things from Arcadia Bay and the player could’ve chosen what happened.

I think double exposure was a fabulous game but I would like a life is strange after the storm like the comics.
