I think the main difference between the religious and the sjws is that we more or less stick to our principles, it is wrong not matter the side. And as you said there is redemption. @@bon7029 I remember my dad telling me there is no how-to guide to parenting. He made sure I knew he was making shit up and probably making a mistake or two. His job was to get me to self-sufficiency, sanity intact. Now that I'm a dad I realize 1 out of 2 ain't bad. He allowed me to make mistakes, make up my own mind and made sure to remind me he loved me. I'm not saying don't correct the kid, just don't hang him out to dry. That creates a monster. A monster that will inflict that pain on his kids and continue the cycle. I could be wrong though, there is no how-to guide to life either.

I like to play Sea of Thieves, if I get annoyed, I bow out and find something else to play. That happens surprisingly rarely though as I have found ways of avoiding being irritated, especially by other players.
That said, I'm not going to go into a screeching rage filled rant because my ship got sunk. I'm going to chalk it up to the other crew being better, especially given that in the end, it doesn't matter because there's nothing to be gained from playing, except a good time.

My God, if you could see the state Team Fortress 2 is in right now in regards to censorship of banter and offensive language. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, because Valve at least understands that their games have mute/block functions, so you can get rid of things you don't want to see (Thank God, unlike Riot Games).
However now, given that Valve's own TF2 servers are unplayable due to an inundation of cheater bots (that Valve can't be bothered to deal with), players are now funneled into community operated game servers, where they're at the mercy of arbitrary rules largely based on personal ethics (i.e. banning people for saying what someone subjectively considers to be a slur, for bullying, for toxicity, etc.). Rules against slurs have more weight over rules against cheating, it seems.
You can't engage in banter without fear of saying the right (wrong) thing that triggers another player into reporting you to a server administrator. Some servers have slur filters that auto-ban you upon typing certain words (and if they don't have a filter, admins scour server logs for slurs to ban players). Some servers even keep track of weapon names and descriptions (since you can customize these things in TF2) and if they're offensive to the right person, you're banned. In some cases I've seen players banned for simply owning an item named something "offensive," that they weren't actively using. Someone went out of their way to dig inside of a steam inventory to find something worth banning them over.
Yes, "Their servers, their rules." "You're just mad that you can't say slurs, bigot!" They can enforce whatever policies they want, but given that these community operated servers are the ONLY option these days, we're kinda screwed. TF2, in terms of its playerbase, has become a weird shadowy husk of its former self. Part of the soul of TF2 (the players, the camaraderie, the banter) has either been banned, or neutered for fear of being banned, from one of the last few places to enjoy the game. It just sucks.
I've been playing TF2 since 2011. I don't understand what's happened to this game, maybe I'm too old. I can't place when this transition into hugbox-safespace land happened (I think somewhere around 2016), but good lord the vocal portion if this game's playerbase is nothing like it was a decade ago. Every other day they're jumping down someone's throat for saying something they don't like instead of enjoying the game and having fun.
It's all so tiresome.

They even assumed that it's the N slur when it's not, that was the joke and they fell for it.
It's the same thing that has happened to any fandom that was a thing during the 90's or early 2000's. They have the fans that have been in them since the start or have been in there for a while, a new generation of paper-skinned people get into it and change it culturally or changed it so radically from what it was and the older folks hate it and leave or go form smaller groups within said fandom.

I'm firmly in the free speech camp and have always been. I was on the left when the moralizing evangelical Christian right was the center of power for the right, but I've also always spoken against hateful attitudes no matter who they were leveled at and who was engaged in them. When people act like that and nobody checks them for it then they're more likely to continue the behavior and to even ramp it up farther since if that amount got them what they were after then more will always be better.
I played competitive sports from the age of six up until I was twenty-two, football, wrestling and track. I joined the Army for four years after that. Some time after I got out I began doing some really stupid shit and wound up spending seven years in prison (I was born in 77 so I have had time to fit all that in). So I've been in plenty of high pressure, highly competitive environments. One thing I've always been taught and have learned from all that is that you always respect your opponent. If you lose you take your lumps and if you win you extend a hand to whoever you just beat. That's true even in prison, really especially in prison. You talk funky to someone and you're liable to be lit up if you're lucky, much worse if you're not. Even when it comes to a physical confrontation in there if you lose and keep your mouth shut about it you get your respect. Alot or blood gets shed over how that kid was acting in there. If you're playing spades or dominoes or whatever trash talking is part of it, but it's good natured. If you start trying to belittle anyone or dominate them or say certain words (bitch is maybe the biggest one, if you get called a bitch you better immediate hit them or tell them to "fall in", meaning let's go in the cell where there aren't any cameras so we can settle this) then you've crossed the line and there's gonna be consequences. Oh and of course I grew up with a controller in my hand all the way from an Atari 2600 till today, so I certainly don't think the game was to blame at all.
So to wrap up yet another long ass comment, the kid was way out of line. You should never speak to anyone like that. Again, I don't think he should have been banned but neither do I think everyone should have just said "Oh well. That's part of the game right? Boys will be boys!" His choice of words is much less important than the emotion behind those words and his intent with them. While what he did has nowhere near the impact it's not any different from lefties throwing hate at "Nazi fascists", the way some people used to speak to gay people, or how a klansman may have spoken to a black man in the 1950s. Once you start dehumanizing another and holding yourself up as superior by your nature you're wrong. It doesn't matter about which words are used, what the races and genders of those involved may be or the environment and reason why any of it took place, you should always give every human a base amount of respect. I'll still say he shouldn't have been banned not should anyone be kept from speaking their mind, but the kid wasn't giving that respect and he should have been called out on it.

As a young 21 year old, it hasn't been too long since I've been an immature teenage gamer. And my god is that guy annoying as hell. I don't know what you were like at that age Dev but in what world is that simply having "banter". Maybe its due to the games I typically play, but whenever our group of friends came across someone like that they were always seen as an immature, low iq idiot. I can't and never have been able too stand people who act like that. Its always annoyed the shit out of me.
Also, not sure of the relevance or validity but I felt I should mention it. Many of the people I knew from High School that acted like this were not the kind of people who got along well with society or the law. I think it's projection rather than a lack of awareness. The fear of "being a baby" is very common in children and pretending to "be grown up" is a poor coping mechanism. The ability to have fun while also taking on responsibility is the sign of maturity, not developing a disgust for fun. That's just a way of projecting your own insecurity about your maturity.
I hate trash talk, and I always have. It's why I don't play a lot of online games. I play only with friends I know in some other context.
That being said, while I would like spaces where trash talk is unacceptable, I don't feel the need to impose those spaces on other people.
Couple of different layers to this. First, all ranting like that is bad. Second, a large proportion of kids do it and grow out of it, so it's not as big a deal in general as when adults do it. Third, Riot games has community standards much different from COD, and no one would get away with that type of talk, even in text chat, 9 years ago, during early League of Legends (I joined in season 3).
This goes doubly so for streamers with a sizable following. If you make it a habit of being toxic in a Riot game, even if you're nowhere close to a typical COD lobby back in the day, expect to get a ban, simple as. Permabans are a little unusual, unless you're a streamer.

I do feel the need to point this out. Since it seems to be a common point in the comments.
Speed is a troll. A known troll. He has commentary videos critiquing his trolling and documenting his previous cancelations. He farms outrage until he's banned and moves on to another twitch community.
I find him painfully unfunny but it is well known he's not serious and trying to shock people so debating whether or not his trash talk is good banter is irrelevant. It's not meant to be legitimate banter.
Thankfully this topic doesn't henge on Speed but instead the leftists reaction to him, unlike when DJ Cum Cum was in one of Dev's older videos and undermined his point a little bit.
Still I just as feel it's important to allow Speed to be unfunny, but I will not stop people from making fun of him or assuming he's serious. That is the cost of being a deep troll, people will assume your serious.
At least DJ Cum Cum came out and acknowledged the troll after he got on CNN and Fox News 🤣

Your Take on The Act man shows you didn't bother to do any research. A lot of his content aligns with your own, his latest video was calling out people criticizing Elden Ring without knowing how to play the game or even know what they are talking about.
I agree with your point that banning him was unnecesary, but the act man isn't woke, he called out rightfully a squizo moment.
Not so sure this falls under "just bants bro" rather than a petulant child screaming down their microphone, the latter of which I've seen many (and might I add lesser) instances of be kicked and banned from many a server. The only difference now is the pervasiveness of streaming... and in this casethe fact that the moron was streaming himself. Dude had it coming.
