    When Carl Marx said derisively "Religion is the opiate of the masses" he didn't mean it in the way we think of opium IE poison. He existed at a time when opium was in cough syrup available to everyone. What he was upset about is that religion soothed people's souls. It was like how that cough syrup was so powerful one would forget he even had a sore throat. In other words Marx was livid that in a world of suffering religion offered people mercy and peace amidst it all. It made some happy but it could help most at least be content. This was a problem as content people don't revolt. In other words Marx wanted people to live in abject misery until every neo Hegelian resolution was finally complete just as his successor Herbert Marcuse railed against pop culture and consumerism.

    Interesting observation about npcs focusing all their thoughts through a lense. Kinda reminds me of when I used to write. After you've given enough time developing a character you no longer have to write for them. You can just put them in a scene and their actions, thoughts, and dialogue are no longer something you have to consciously craft. They just do or say what they will because that's the lense they're crafted around. A lot of these people seem similar like they just follow the program until the narrator decides their opinion needs to change.

I mean, I can be very polite, but it's basically a trained behavior that I do on impulse regardless of my mood. I guess I'm just a bit mentally scarred from a childhood filled with not fitting in. There's always an internal conflict of "I don't really care about these people's interests and I should follow my own path" versus "maybe if I was more like them, I'd suffer less loneliness, even if being more like them means being a shittier person".

A problematic trait. Add to that I also happen to be quite gullible because I trust too easily, which is also a big downside of my outgoing personality. I realized that and now I try to not fall into that trap, but it's such a natural thing to me that I hardly overcome it. But that, like many things, can be worked on if only you think about who you really are, what you owe yourself to be. There is plenty of people out there that can't really define that about themselves, and I'd say that's already quite defining of yourself. That's some Fight Club mentality talk here, but it's required. You can't work on yourself if you don't know who and what "yourself" is, especially if you live by "society's standards".. Introspection is good every now and then, and I can tell you did that by how you speak about you and already flagged the problem from early in your life. That's some therapy approach we all need to make on our own. Living is only worth if you do it the way you want it, not because other people you never met have told you it's better this or that way. Every once in a while the trending section does uncover some interesting truths. For instance It's become so commonplace for articles to use the word allegedly (i.e. we can't prove this but someone said it and we REALLY want to repeat it) that I've started to see just the word 'Allegedly' trending. Not because of a hashtag, just because the single word from so many sources trips the algorithm; there's no relation between any of the articles once you click through it.

While it may be cringe to say and it may be whataboutism, but the fact that Will suffered no significant backlash over what he did to the point you have people saying that unless you had a certain amount of melanin in your skin you couldn't criticize him is significant. After all, we do know there'd have been an IMMEDIATE reaction if a Chris made fun of a white guy's wife or if a white guy made fun of Will's wife.
    Both situations would've been the white guy's fault and they'd be tossed out of the Oscar's or booed off the stage. This isn't racist to say, just a sad truth, and the reason it's looked through a political lens is because they made it political. Is someone's position being predictable really a criticism of their worldview. All mathematical systems have perfectly predictable answers, yet are true by definition. Could be that predictability in ones thinking is just the result of a worldview with internal consistency. The question is can they show their work, NPCs cannot share their work. They memorize answers on flash cards and dont do the math.

    • @Achonas
      @Achonas 2 роки тому +1

      I would say it is. I don't think math is a good analogy for worldviews. I think continuing the lens analogy fits better. how people view the world is through their lens, and their lens is something they've made and had formed as they're growing. now imagine that everyone in the world made their own physical lense by themselves. every single one would be unique. they would have different kicks, blurs, and other imperfections. The way they interpret what's shown through them would thus be unique.
      I would say that for the NPCs they are people who had their lens replaced or altered to a more standardized one. they all say the same thing. they all come up with the same answer. etc etc.

    • @Achonas
      @Achonas 2 роки тому

    • @cthuwulhu9275
      @cthuwulhu9275 2 роки тому

      A lot of people aren't talking in a logical train of thought and more like throwing out random sentences. I believe in debates they tend to believe the guy wins who denies more sentences of his opponent while not getting his own denied or something. I don't really understand people. Anyway, so if you are in a debate holding up a card showing the sentence the other guy just said would be like a superblock or something. Like if someone punches you from behind and you just block anyway.
      If you are actually having a logical train of thought going and the other guy "predicts" you, aren't you in fact agreeing? I mean not neccessarily, but compare:
      "Trains do not have turnable axes so logically ..." "... we have to separate the wheels because the outer one needs to cover more ground ..." "... but this is not stable enough ..."
      "Omg trans people so oppressed ..." "... and Brexit is bad because the fishermen don't have a job and climate change is bad because the oceans are overfished already and ..."
      I think there two things here. There are issues here that have no logical connection. Like, why can't a trans person be pro Brexit. But I would predict that like 95% of all outspoked trans activists are also against Brexit. I mean, hey, I actually wonder. Statistically we would assume that the split would mirror the general populations tendencies, so 50% of trans activists should be pro Brexit. Similarily though, I do think we could easily also find the same things about Brexiteers.
      What this shows is that in your mind these issues are correlated when in truth they aren't. Which shows what we all knew anyway, the huge dominance of the peer group over rational thought. And in that way it would actually be a criticism of their worldview or at least their epistemology.
      The second thing is that "bugs" are also replicated. I mean I have to be careful with this but I literally had talks with people who switched from the plight of fishermen to the plight of fishes within five minutes of topic change. Predictable bugs are systematic errors and, as far as science is concerned pretty much a reason to overhaul the entire worldview.

    This has shown me that I got sucked into the Will Smith thing without realizing. I have a teacher who is a leftist and the week before last week he started up a conversation with the class (I'm in high-school btw) about the Oscar's and what we thought about the Will Smith and Chris Rock event. Everyone gave their opinions, I was quietly listening to them, and after a bit my teacher said something about the joke being ableist and I wondered what he was on about. I eventually raised my hand to say that it didn't matter and that it wasn't important, my teacher said "but it's all over the news" I said "that doesn't make it important." I said something else to the effect of, "he made joke, he slapped him," then my teacher said "So when someone makes a distasteful joke and someone goes up and slaps them, it's okay?" I told him that that was not what I said, and after I asked what he meant by ableist, he said the usual mumbo jumbo about "power over Jada because she has alopecia, it is a disease," and I said "So Chris Rock has more power over her because she has no hair," then he said something that amounted to nothing. After all of that, I saw ItsaGundam's video, and finally saw the clip of Chris Rock getting slapped. That led to me going against what I was talking about in class by starting a conversation about it during lunch with the people I sit with and got worked up about it (partially) and felt stupid afterwards. I realized that I got sucked into it and never touched the damned situation again because at this point by getting into it I become no better than the one who tried to put words in my mouth and then backed off when I pointed it out.

I used to love writing and making board games, did it all the time. but this bullshit of everything needs to be political makes me afraid to publish anything, which makes it hard to even work on. does it even matter how good my story is if all that people are going to take away from it is some political agenda? I'm writing about fantasy hero's beating up robots with magic because that's fun, but someone is going to go "the robots represent X" and that is all the book is going to be.

      Well it always has been this way. Tho not in political terms. But ppl always misread and misrepresented media in general.
      Dont let this stop you. If woke npcs try saying shit about your game, just say "no u wrong" and refuse to elaborate further.

      Nah bro just do it cuz you find it fun. That's the thing about art and stories. People are always gonna have their own interpretation but that shouldn't take away from your enjoyment of creating.
      TLDR make art cuz it's fun, who cares what everyone else thinks.

      Don't want to put your own work out there because some wokies -might- _will_ call you Hitler v2.0? Alright, don't. Let them win.
      That's what they want, after all. **Their** ideas, and only **their** ideas; everyone else gets automagically labeled "racist" or whatever, and summarily suppressed. Exactly how they like it.
      Or, you could stop letting them control you, and expose your work in spite of them.

    Ultimately I think that a totalitarian viewpoint, that the personal is political, that you always have to be engaged, and that by not doing so you are actively an enemy of the zeitgeist, is the winning strategy. A people whipped up in zeal about something are a lot more likely to get what they want through dogged dedication than people saying “uh, well, I don’t really care”.
    Apathy is not the antidote to fanaticism.

    I think there’s a discussion I read when talking about nuances of Thucydides’ writing of the Peloponnesian War. It’s about the focus of humanity and ideology, that ideology is the malformed product of people’s search for truth but within the confines on a singular idea.

    13:39 I hate that it was clearly a trap. The Terf Trap, because she knew an old guy as Jordan Peterson who doesn't really care about that wouldn't know for sure that there's stupid drama between the radical communities.

    Ya Boi Zack has been saying what JP said for years. there's no point being outraged when progs say something dumb. they giving literally the one allowed take. if they said anything else they'd be canabalized. it's not surprising or shocking anymore.

    Rationality and again expanding the ends of the spectrums, so we can have both extremes *and* a middle-ground *and* a sliding scale on either side enters back into the mainstream discourse.

    Never had a reddit account, but I use it sometimes for "certain things" and the front page is more creepy and one sided every time I see it. Do the people there just not notice it gradually changing over time, like proverbial frogs in heating water?
    I can't imagine reddit as SUCH a complete hive that even everyone there is happy about this
