I have been considering getting a teleprompter to help my delivery, so this was right on time. I enjoy your videos a lot because of the editing and your delivery and I'm glad to see the prompter has only amplified how you deliver.
Oh, my God! It's like we get to watch you grow and blossom in real time! You 're killing it, and I'm excited to see you get even better. The only quibble I have: there's never been a documented case where a sloth confused its arm for a tree branch; that's just a myth.
As a guy who checks a lot of those boxes as well, I've learned to just take it as a compliment 😂 I love the autistic people I've met in life, so assuming I'm them isn't the worst of things 🤷🏾♂️
(First video of you that youtube presents me that is not legal eagle related, for reference.) I do videos and was thinking of getting a teleprompter. I am used to lecturing, so I thought I'd naturally be good at knowing what to say and feel natural on camera. And Oh Boy! No I am not. It is a very different skill really. But because I am doing lectures for essentially a captive audience; I don't really need super good, I just needed to be out of the "excruciating zone". What I have been doing is clipping a cell phone just next to the camera. It's not best but it works. If I am full screen you might be able to see that I'm looking at something off camera, but most of the videos I am in a corner and unless you stare at it, you probably can't tell. Anyway, your delivery is real good at this point. Production quality is high. I don't think I'll buy a prompter, seems too expensive for my need. Maybe I'll build one, that feels more like me!
@@AwkwardAnthems I agree with KimBarron, community posts and polls seem to drive a lot of engagement and choosing a silly name for a Flex Plus Teleprompter seems very fun.
I really enjoyed this video. It combined telling a story and giving information really, really well. I also had no idea why a teleprompter would way be better than just putting text on a tv. Now I do. Thanks!
Beautiful editing! I film videos, both for creative entertainment, and for work in my small home office, and I use a small Teleprompter mounted on a desktop tripod with just my iPhone for script. I love it. I use a voice driven reader that automatically advances (prompt smart pro).
Great video and as someone who primarily creates nerd tech content and is very socially awkward, I find your tips on better delivery very helpful. Thanks!
Lol- well, benefit of the doubt. I don't think this one was an actual hater; just VERY honest. But thank you for acknowledging this beanie's commitment all year round.
I have never felt your delivery was _too_ awkward (or too newscaster-polished). I still like your prompter-driven delivery/performance/presentation, so I'm really glad that it helps you!
Who cares if you are neurotypical or neurodivergent. You are doing an excellent job! I am glad for you that you found some inspiration though, and that inspiration, and creativity is worth a lot more than just being good at reading from a teleprompter :)
I think I also fit into the awkward-awkward group as I stopped the video to read the whole comment when the screen wipe started. Then I continued the video and you went over all the key parts anyway! I end up doing this on many different videos as other people won't elaborate and I Must have all the context.
It's funny that your channel is called "Awkward Anthems", and you're wearing a shirt with "Awkward" on it, but I never find you awkward even for a second. On the contrary!
Noice! I've always found it comforting to have a well scripted and rehearsed presentation. The first time I used a teleprompter I noticed immediately my posture was less tense. Its just comforting to be able to emote knowing the text is in line of sight with the camera.
I find it comforting for the same reason! It frees you up to focus on the "feeling" part of your message, without the added mental load of memorization.
My beanie sits lonely next to my desk, desperately waiting for an Arizona day cold enough to wear it. Great video, for those on a really tight budget, Paul's Hardware did an short tutorial on making your own teleprompter a couple of years ago...
I never thought to try and classify (or even dissect) any traits you may display. I am currently raising my nephew whom we are currently receiving benefits for due to his being diagnosed with autism. Also, my them has been diagnosed as well. While I have studied and learned much in order to have the tools to support them, I never think to categorize others (especially those I have little to no direct interaction with). I'm sorry, the way you brought it up made me wonder why someone would even bring this up. I'm glad that you are strong and secure enough to turn this into a learning experience for us, but was disappointed that anyone would talk about your on camera delivery in a negative way. Some people seem more natural in front of a camera than others. I'm sorry, I just see no reason to critique someone's work in this manner, except to seem intelligent or better to others. I won't be offended for you, but I am sad that people feel the need to cast any shade at all on someone who has done absolutely nothing but try to make everyone's life a little brighter and more informed. ARGHHHH, another book, sorry about that, I hate hater's especially "seemingly" polite ones).
I hear that, John! 💛Your nephew is very blessed to have such wonderful support in his life. I don't dissect these traits in others either. If anything, they often read as "green flags" to me; an indicator that their experience of navigating the world likely mirrors my own in some ways. I left the full comment in the video, which I think is important for context. Their feedback seemed genuine; perhaps not packaged in the most tactful way, but I've been on this platform long enough to appreciate the broad spectrum of actual hate, hate disguised as help, actual help, actual love and every odd combination. Yours consistently make me smile! Much love to you and your nephew.
imo flex plus is working! personally, I didn't think you were particularly awkward in your previous videos, but if it works for you and helps you then that's awesome :D also, I wanted to let you know that I love your videos! your video editing makes me want to actually stay on the video and actually watch it, instead of just listening to the video as I often do (I didn't know interesting-awkward was a thing... I'm always awkward-awkward. what an awkward revelation...)
I bought a teleprompter and I used it once manly due to the size and mounting bracket. But I wanted a teleprompter and started with a piece of glass and an old monitor. I custom made the brackets and mounting hardware. Now that is all said and done I could of just remade the mounting bracket on my original teleprompter but somehow this seemed easier.
Interesting and entertaining explanation, presentation, unpaid infomercial. While not something I have a need for in my activities, I enjoyed the video, and learned some things. ... ... ... Now if they had a model that could feed me lines in normal everyday interactions, that would be something to consider.
yeah, it's really difficult isn't it. I do video lectures. Something that I would do in about 75 minutes in a lecture hall, compresses to about 15 minutes of videos. And that takes me about 2 hours to record; 3 if the neighbor dog decided to bark right under my window.
I love teleprompters. Tom recently got one from Elgato. it works great when he was in a sitting position, but i might look into this one for his standing shots, since The Elgato is little small for the farther standing distance.
I don't know, a teleprompter that provides the level of clarity that only high quality grass provides sells it for me As for name, what about flexibelle? Like flexible, but with just enough awkward pronunciation so that it fits with this channel However, I do think carrying this around so that I can speak to random passers-by might be even more awkward than just trying to talk with them, but I'll trust your judgement and try and save up so I buy one to take to the shops, if I manage it, I'll update on my success 😂
I need a chest mounted IRL version so people could think I'm making eye contact with them while they are speaking, but I'm really just playing a game on my phone.
I read the thumbnail as "my secret hat" and thought this was going to be about how your hat was hiding a smaller hat underneath it and how keeping it secret all this time had allowed you to be successful with your awkwardness. ... ... you should make that video next. We all know that hat is hiding another hat.
I have Trey the tri-pod so maybe Pete the Prompter to keep that alliteration going? In all seriousness though, I discovered after recording a video lesson what my unconscious filler word was and having something to read off cut the number of times I said "so" by 50%. Pete would be a very good companion.
I teach for a living, so I thought I'd be good at delivery on camera. And I'm really not. I started to notice all the pausing words, all the slip of tongue that wouldn't matter in a live presentation but that are distracting on video. This is so hard. I use a teleprompter now; kind of; I clipped a cell phone just next of my camera. That helped a lot with looking natural and saying the right words.
Perhaps you could give it the first name of Reese. When you say "Reese Flex," it sounds a lot like reflex. Also, the name Reese is derived from the Welsh for Enthusiasm, which you have! :-)

Honestly I found it more natural and perfectly fine. I am not sure how many takes it took prior to flex plus. That time savings may be worth it. However I see little difference between the previous method and the new method

"Møøse Trained by YUTTE HERMSGERVØRDENBRØTBØRDA"
I watch most of your Videos but not your Shorts: I watch "content" from my Watch Later list after adding the new & interesting videos found in my subscription list. Because UA-cam has made it nearly impossible to add Shorts to the Watch Later list, I don't watch them sooner or later…
When I use a teleprompter it looks very obvious that I'm reading. I guess also because the text easily appears above, to the sides or under the camera lens. How do you make it look so seamless? Do you read every single word literally or is it more or a guideline? Do you read your script beforehand? Great job!
I only do videos from script on a prompter (well a camera clipped right next to the camera). I don't really read from the prompter as much as the prompter serves as a reminder of precisely what I am supposed to say. I deviate very little from the text. But because I wrote the script carefully beforehand, because l lay out the script in paragraph for the prompter which remind me of the text, because I want to have 3 good takes per clip (which means I usually do 6-10) and because I record in short paragraphs (usually about 30-45 seconds at a time; probably the longest clip recorded at once was 1 minute 10 seconds), it turns out that I mostly know my text and the prompter is only there to remind me the precise word I intended to say. Now, sometimes I say something slightly different and I keep going. Then I'll pick the version that I like when I edit. (And really I pick the first clip marked "good" and if it is not good, then I'll look at the other two.)
It takes a little bit of practice to dial in the right text size and scroll speed for your lens. If the text is too big, or goes outside the margins, the scanning eyes will be more obvious. I tend to grab a lot of takes in general, since my best takes are usually my last takes (when I feel more relaxed and warmed up). But you can pause the scrolling too, if it's easier to just use it as a reference guide to have in front of you. 🙂
three and a half minutes in and I learn "prompter people" is not a bogus euphemism but the actual company name. lol. That's not on you, that's on them.
maybe reviewing tech products intermixed with animation is your thing. You should consider recreating this video intermixed with your animation skills so your videos are MORE FOCUSED AND SPECIALIZED thereby providing you with that core audience you need to become a successful youtuber
it is funny tho you could get the same results from a school that has those "projectors" from the 90s and 2000s. kids surely dont learn off them do they
Your very pretty face attracted me to watch your video thought you should know this before I start watching it. So here goes and I'll let you know what I think of the video after I'm done but based upon the first 10 seconds it's pretty encouraging. May take some time for a follow up so don't get overly concerned if you don't hear from me right away. Basically it's at the end of the day and I prefer to wait till the following day to watch the video for the initial time. Preparing my viewing for tomorrow just before I go to bed and just because that's what I'm doing.
I think you need to change your 'distance to the camera'. It kinda feels like you're invading the viewers space and inside their personal bubble. 2:50 - ouch, my nose. 👍👊👃
So.. Ima be real. Video editing really isn't my interest. I like legal, historical, educational, and outdoors content. I'm going to unsub just because I'm not the kind of organic growth you are looking for. It's better to have 10 people that are engaged with you than 1 million that aren't. I watch most of your Videos but not your Shorts: I watch "content" from my Watch Later list after adding the new & interesting videos found in my subscription list. Because UA-cam has made it nearly impossible to add Shorts to the Watch Later list, I don't watch them sooner or later…
2:15 ALWAYS be nice to the computers and machines. Just in case.. 😳
Solid advice. Be nice to the machines! They will spare you later. 🤖
I think it's working.
But because I wrote the script carefully beforehand,
because l lay out the script in paragraph for the prompter which remind me of the text,
because I want to have 3 good takes per clip (which means I usually do 6-10)
and because I record in short paragraphs (usually about 30-45 seconds at a time; probably the longest clip recorded at once was 1 minute 10 seconds),
it turns out that I mostly know my text and the prompter is only there to remind me the precise word I intended to say.
@@AwkwardAnthems @eriks2962 Thanks so much! Helpful advice.
three and a half minutes in and I learn "prompter people" is not a bogus euphemism but the actual company name. lol. That's not on you, that's on them.
❤
nice
Do you sell t-shirts? If not, why?
I'm finding out most of the people I watch on UA-cam are neurotypical. 😄
💙🙏😆
maybe reviewing tech products intermixed with animation is your thing.
This is a comment for engagement!
What if you graduated from The Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good and Who Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too. 🤷🏻♂️
Water is the essence of beauty. 😂
Feeding you what to say as you talk... it's a digital mother-in-law?
Madam Flex-A-Lot?
Haha! This one's going in the poll tonight! Love it. 😂
I think you need to change your 'distance to the camera'. It kinda feels like you're invading the viewers space and inside their personal bubble.
2:50 - ouch, my nose. 👍👊👃
Argh... Neuroawkward is just fine. Promo...not as much (even if unpaid).
Not at all awkward. Where's the awkward?
It's everywhere, and maybe nowhere at the same time. Mostly everywhere, though. Ha! 🥸
BUT TRUMP IS AKWARD AND DOESNT USE A PROMPTER hahahah sorry i couldnt keep lying
So.. Ima be real. Video editing really isn't my interest. I like legal, historical, educational, and outdoors content. I'm going to unsub just because I'm not the kind of organic growth you are looking for. It's better to have 10 people that are engaged with you than 1 million that aren't. Keep doing you, you are awesome.
Love the sloth facts! 🦥 I totally relate. Stay awesomely awkward!
