Imagine a great table, loaded with the best food, perfectly prepared. This is how we view the Word of God, and it is our joy and privilege to encourage Christians to find their seats and share the bounty of it with us. The reading plan is simply the menu, the challenge is to become Christians who live and breathe the Word of God.
In spite of the abundant availability of Scripture to us, many Christians struggle to develop a habit of reading - simply reading the Word. We have overcomplicated and underappreciated it. By making it only a matter of private reflection and introspection, we have forgotten the element of hospitality, and Christians have fallen out of the practices of inviting others to read with us.
This lyric video is presented by Canon Press.
We need a full album of Canon Shanties
Agree
I would play that album on repeat so hard the walls would grow barnacles
I could see an album of Canon Shanties, professionally produced. I think it would sell
I’d buy it
I'd 100% buy it!
When you put together a whole album of these, you can call it Sea Shanties for Fishers of Men.
YES!
I love these Christian sea shanties, keep it up!
👍👍👍👍👍
My beard has grown at least 2 inches from this song alone.
I wish my church would have songs like this. You folks out there in Moscow as blessed to have this type of singing.
I suppose after my 4th time playing this I should at least comment and say well done.
Power and strength instead of insipid emotionalism.
Yes!
moving to moscow! Who is with me!
TO THE WORD
TO THE WORD
WE GO
Amen
'Sanctify the Lord,' he said
To the Word, to the Word we go
'Let Him be your fear, let Him be your dread'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'To the Testimony and Law'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'If they don't speak this Word, they have no light at all'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'A stone of stumbling and rock of offense'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'Against this Word there is no defense'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'Many among them will stumble and fall'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'Bind up the Word behind a great wall'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'To the Testimony and Law'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'If they don't speak this Word, they have no light at all'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'So I will wait upon the Lord'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'To seek the One who must be adored'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'Here I am and the children you gave'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'A sign that you have promised to save'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'Shall we go to the wizards that chirp?'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'The words of the Prophets they want to usurp'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'To the Testimony and Law'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'If they don't speak this Word, they have no light at all'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'If they do not feed on His Word'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'They shall hunger and thirst and die unheard'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'All they will see is trouble and dark'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'Their anguish great, their troubles are stark'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
'To the Testimony and Law'
To the Word, to the Word we go
'If they don't speak this Word, they have no light at all'
Bend, break, burn, and blow
Great repurposing of this tune! Well done. For anyone who doesn't have a congregation to share with, here are some guitar chords.

_where has this style of music been all my life?_
Man, I felt this deep inside.
Wow, this has been stuck in my head ever since I heard it. Thank you for all you guys do and the glory you give to God.
AWESOME!!! Gospel and sea shanty all in one. Keep it up!!
Epic Christian anthem for the New Reformation. We need a whole host of them.
I did this challenge from the Bible app last year. What a blessing it was, and a great habit to constantly hear God’s grounding, perfect, infallible Word, during times of confusion, and panic.
As I listen to this again, I'm reminded of this quote from George MacDonald's The Princess and Curdie (available for purchase from Canon Press!):
"Their lamps were going out, for they grew redder and smokier! But they did not lose courage, for there is a kind of capillary attraction in the facing of two souls, that lifts faith quite beyond the level to which either could raise it alone."
In other words, there is something irreversibly invigorating to the faith of in one heart when it hears the faith of many hearts singing and praising the name of our God.
Sounds amazing! Full album please!
Ps where can i purchase this song?
To those wondering, this is based on Isaiah 8!
My goodness, when the whole congregation joins in.... Chills.
Just read Isaiah 8 this morning immediately this song came to my head
Its the strength in the convictions of the lyrics and concepts like letting Him be your dread. You don't hear projections of Gods power and majesty like that anymore.
Isaiah 8:20. Beautiful!
I just picture Doug singing this, on a late evening, on the patio, with a drink and a cigar in hand. 😂😂😂
I've been on his patio... he does.
@@franklinbumgartener1323 bahahhahahahaa!!!
Beautiful! Powerful! Envigorating!
This is epic! When and where can we buy and download?👍💛
Please make more!!! Please
Thank you for some legitimately good Christian music to listen to.
im in whats called christian service brigades and our men sing this after the lesson and this is like 40+ men near on bellowing this its powerful
I love this song!! 🙌🏼💯
Here are the lyrics my brother and sisters!
Sanctify the Lord he said
To the word, to the word we go
Let Him be your fear
Let Him be your dread
Bend, break, burn and blow
(Refrain)
A stone of stumbling and rock
Of offense.
To the word, to the word we go
Against this word, there is no
Defense
Bend, break, burn, and blow.
Many among them will stumble
And fall
To the word, to the word we go
Bind up the word, behind a
Great wall
Bend, break, burn, and blow
(Refrain)
So I will wait upon the Lord
To the word, to the word we go
To seek the one who must
Be adored
Bend, break, burn, and blow
Here I am, and the children you gave
To the word, to the word we go
A sign that you have promised to
Save
Bend, break, burn, and blow
Shall we go to the wizards that
Chirp
To the word, to the word we go
The words of the prophets they
Want to usurp
Bend, break, burn, and blow
(Refrain)
If they do not feed on His Word
To the word, to the word we go
They shall hunger and thirst
And die unheard
Bend, break Burn, and blow
All they will see is trouble and
Dark
To the word, to the word we go
Their anguish great Their troubles
Are stark
Bend, break, burn, and blow
(Refrain)
Thank you!
Awesome
Love it! Need more.
I love this!
This is awesome! Isaiah’s fear and dread stanza…wow!!!!
Amen.
Absolutely beautiful!
This is fearfully and wonderfully made.
Need more like this!
I was so encouraged when I listened to this - thank you so much for sharing!
Love this, more please!
My 8 y.o. just asked for this song by name, love it!! Keep up the great work Canon and Christ church!
Love this! Thank you for posting!
Yes! Keep these coming!
I was expecting The Weatherman>
I was not expecting Randy Dandy O.
Wonderful lyrics to the shanty
THAT'S WHY I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! I've been listening to Jonathan Young's cover all day and couldn't place why this caught my ear... THAT'S LITERALLY WHY! 😂
Thank you canon press!
I absolutely love this as well as the Psalm 136 sea shanty. That being said, don't let your music preference be a high priority in picking a church. I think leaving a church because they don't match your music preference exactly is a terrible mistake.
Also, don't stay 'only' because they match your music preferences!
I love sea shanty tunes but all they talk about is killing and drinking, this is amazing!
We want to learn this at our church. Is there sheet music?
Glorious!
Pretty sure I'm hearing James White's voice singing bass too. :)
We need the album!!!
More Church shanties please!
❤❤❤
So good
Loved it.
Me and the fam bout to get lit ta dis!!!!
So good!
Will these be on Spotify?
Love it!
That is rock and roll - killer! Sheet music?
First time hearing this song and I love it. Do you have anymore or where can I find music like this?
What a hearty song, and dramatic difference from the Charismatic man centred songs of Kari Jobe
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
🔥❤️🔥🔥
👍
Dude, this is awesome! Where can I find more of this?
will yall put these shanties on Spotify?
Needs to be put on shorts
Any way to get sheet music for this? Trying to add it to our family worship…
Where can I find this song? I could not find it on apple music.
What does the repeated line "bend, break, burn, and blow" mean? Is it talking about the fate of those who live apart from The Word?
It’s a reference to John Donne’s Holy Sonnet
"To the Word" is a setting of Isaiah 8:13-22, but what in the world does the "Bend, break, burn and blow" line mean?
This actually comes from a sonnet by the 17th century poet John Donne, called Batter My Heart. The imagery here is from blacksmithing - it compares the hard action a blacksmith must use to make a rigid piece of metal pliable and form it into something useful, and compares this to God's work on the human heart:
"Batter my heart, three-person'd God, for you
As yet but knock, breathe, shine, and seek to mend;
That I may rise and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force to break, blow, burn, and make me new.
I, like an usurp'd town to another due,
Labor to admit you, but oh, to no end;
Reason, your viceroy in me, me should defend,
But is captiv'd, and proves weak or untrue.
Yet dearly I love you, and would be lov'd fain,
But am betroth'd unto your enemy;
Divorce me, untie or break that knot again,
Take me to you, imprison me, for I,
Except you enthrall me, never shall be free,
Nor ever chaste, except you ravish me."
God's wordk breaks us, in order to shape us and make us whole.
Plus, the line sounds kinda piratical.
@@aaronsnell4395 Aha, great, thanks! Haha, clearly being "piratical" was truly the underlying reason for the line... 😜
I feel like I know the words to this, could you please let me know where they are from?
Is there any way I could some guitar chords for this?
Startlingly powerful?
Where’s Chris Rosebrough at?!?
Does anyone know who the author of the lyrics is? There seem to be some shout outs to John Donne in there
Words are all from Isaiah 8.
The tune is "Randy Dandy Oh"
There is indeed John Donne in there, good eye! The text is Isaiah 8:13-22, set by Douglas Wilson, with allusions to Donne's sonnet Batter My Heart.
@@aaronsnell4395 yeah that ‘Bend, break, burn, and blow’ seemed to be too convenient

Scansion could do with a little work... otherwise, great stuff!
Bend, break, burn and blow. I wonder what the meaning behind it is. I think it is to bend, break, burn and blow (away) the negative statements in the song, ie. "if they dont speak this word they have no light at all" --> bend, break, burn and blow. But why those four? Any thoughts?

Meh... Not terrible, not fantastic. A little "Skyrim" shout at the end.
Any arrangements for this song? My church wants to sing this to prepare to worship!
