The Voyage of St. Brendan [Lyric Video]

- "The Voyage of St. Brendan" is the official school song for Saint Brendan's Classical Christian Academy (www.SaintBrendans.Academy), which I am helping start through our church in Ogden, Utah. Since our namesake, St. Brendan the Navigator, is known for his legendary sea voyage for Eden, we decided that a sea shanty would be an appropriate school song.
We chose to write new words to the old tune, "Roll the Old Chariot," one of my absolutely favorite sea songs out there. Hope you enjoy this rendition!
If you enjoy my work and want to see more of it, you can lend your aid at / briansauve . Let me know if you want to hear more shanties!

LYRICS:
Well we'll be alright, if the LORD be on our side!
We'll be alright, if the LORD be on our side!
We'll be alright, if the LORD be on our side!
And the LORD, he's on our side!
And we all belong to Jerusalem above
We all belong to Jerusalem above
We all belong to Jerusalem above
And we sail for Eden's shores
And we'll be alright, if the LORD, he be our strength!
We'll be alright, if the LORD, he be our strength!
We'll be alright, if the LORD, he be our strength!
We'll be alright, if the LORD, he be our strength!
And the LORD, he is our strength!
And we all belong to Jerusalem above
We all belong to Jerusalem above
We all belong to Jerusalem above
And we sail for Eden's shores
We'll be sharpening the axe to cut down old Donar's oak!
We'll be sharpening the axe to cut down old Donar's oak!
We'll be sharpening the axe to cut down old Donar's oak!
For the LORD, he’s stronger, far!
And we all belong to Jerusalem above
We all belong to Jerusalem above
We all belong to Jerusalem above
And we sail for Eden's shores

I love the shanty! I shared it with some brothers and I'll be singing it all the time at work.
More shanties please!
So good, I love it.
We need more of these shanty/work type of hymns. This reminds me of Battle Hymn of the Republic as it is an encouragement to march on for the LORD.
Added to our morning worship, a huge encouragement to my son.
Praise God!
Nice one....best school song I've heard.
My children want to listen to this over and over. Just discovered your music and really like all you do!
Thank you! Glad to hear it has been a blessing.
I'm not a child and i want to listen to this over and over too! Great job Pastor Brian!
My kids too!
Omg my kids too! Love it
My son as well! ❤💙🕊️
I love that this has chopping down Donar's Oak! The Holy Trinity, Yahweh our God, is so much greater than the pagan gods of old!
Everyone who was at County Before Country '22 is now singing this song back at home and introducing to others.
I used to sing this on the back of a tender boat in an Alaskan fishing contract in 23'
This is fantastic. May the Lord prosper your school.
This is a mighty song!
My 3 year old son loves this one!
I've alwasy loved sea shanties and the harmonies and rhythms. I've also wondered what it'd sound like to have a Christian themed one. I'm a little fascinated by the idea that all melodies and songs can be redeemed.
Just found this song today, and I love it! Sounds like the perfect song to sing while working.
Introduced my wife to your music. She absolutely loves it! Thank you for making music (and worship music) great!
My kids keep asking to hear this and we all keep walking around singing it 🙌
To God be the glory!
Beutiful, 🎵 song 🎶
Beautiful ❣
Overheard my 2.5 year old chanting this to himself yesterday. I have 4 little kids and they love this song!
More of these pleaseeee 😊
Really, really good.
Wonderful!
Excellent Brian, you've combined two of my fav things!
FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great work.
Fantastic!
Why do I get the feeling that somebody is a big fan of the Ashtown Burial series? :D This is outstanding.
I mean, you're not wrong 😂
Thank you! I had a vague memory of ND Wilson from when I read his books years ago, but I couldn’t remember his name or any book titles.
Love it!
My family came from Ogden and the area around. That side of the family are Winwards.
Yes
My boys have all been stomping their feet and singing this and I am wondering about the line "as we sail to Eden's shores." ??? Could someone explain the reference?
We all belong to Jerusalem!
The Garden of Eden was the former estate man lived in. It was the place of perfection. As the land of Canaan was a shadow of entering God’s rest because of His covenant promises, the Garden of Eden was a shadow of entering into perfection. It’s just another type of heaven.
Greatness. I’m working on a version for our men’s group to sing around the fire.
1.
Oh, we'd be alright if the Lord was on our side
We'd be alright if the Lord was on our side
We'd be alright if the Lord was on our side
And we'll all hang on behind...
And He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
And we'll all hang on behind!
2.
Oh, we'd be alright if we make it to our Home
We'd be alright if we make it to our Home
We'd be alright if we make it to our Home
And we'll all hang on behind...
And He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
And we'll all hang on behind!
3.
Well, another Lord’s Day rest wouldn’t do us any harm
Another Lord’s Day rest wouldn’t do us any harm
Another Lord’s Day rest wouldn’t do us any harm
And we'll all hang on behind...
And He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
And we'll all hang on behind!
4.
Well, another call for grace wouldn’t do us any harm
Another call for grace wouldn’t do us any harm
Another call for grace wouldn’t do us any harm
And we'll all hang on behind!
.5
Well, we’re more than conquerors through the One who loved us so
We’re more than conquerors through the One who loved us so
We’re more than conquerors through the One who loved us so
And He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
He'll ro-o-oll the ol’ chariot along!
And we'll all hang on behind!
Might be a bit late but how has it come along?
This is so goood!
We need more songs like these. I want to sing this in a large group at the Capitol on Abolition Day.
We need more of these! I adore this song and as do my kids.
Although I came here to check the lyrics, I’ve been singing it wrong for so long! 😂 I thought I’d was ‘heathen shores’ (to cut down the donar’s oak), not eden’s shores 🤦🏻♂️
I would absolutely love it so much if made more there’s not really many options for Christian sea shanties
This is probably the purest shanty style song I've ever heard. I'd rather hear this than "What do you do with a drunken sailor" haha
Could you have a video of your school singing it?
My 2 year old asks for this song and sings along with it. She calls it the Ooo song lol
Question...what's Donars oak?
Donar's oak (or Thor's oak) was the center of pagan worship for the eighth-century tribe to which St. Boniface journeyed as a missionary. He chopped down their sacred tree and built a church with it. As the story goes, the tribe, rather than getting angry, saw that Boniface's God must have been more powerful than theirs, since he was able to chop down the tree without harm.
@@Brian_Sauve boniface option > benedict option
@@Brian_Sauve really cool story, love having little Easter eggs in songs like that
Half of the views on this video is from me and my children.
Thank you for listening!
brian
i know the chords for this but how do i find the way you play it
i know you have alt tuning but can you send me anything on this....a link...a song sheet...
going camping with this one!
guitar
I actually don't play this one on guitar, never have. I built it around a pretty simple piano chord progression, so the vocals are really the thing. I usually lead it a cappella in groups for that reason.
@@Brian_Sauve
yea i here that, but how much more glorious would it be brian...😂
can u just write out the chords out here....particularly the resolve at each stanza
Is there any historical connection between St. Brendan and St. Boniface?
What do you mean by Jeursalum above? I'm curious as to the meaning of your words. I hope you can elaborate for me. Thank you for the amazing content either way have a blessed day 🎉
It’s a reference to New Jerusalem, which is a concept present in two Biblical prophecies, first in the Book of Ezekiel, and much later in the Book of Revelation. Traditionally, it references the community of Heaven that will be merged with the Earth in the end times under the rule of Jesus Christ
Is there going to be more?
Where can I get the lyrics for this song? I’d like to have them to sing as a group in my home. Thanks!
Is there sheet music for this composition? This is amazing and I really want to teach it to my students.
Who here is a haunted cosmomaut? :)
A lot of your songs seem to have a post-mil perspective... I'm I wrong in that assessment?
Nope, you’re right on the money! Besides the guys in Moscow, Brendan here is one of the more well-known post-mil people in that corner of the internet.
Donar will have vengeance
Just go to church mate
@@mnr.vlakvark5056 nah bro.
No lol
Just like Baal had vengeance on Elijah?
