Thanks Kathy. Most of my videos are aimed at beginners, but I do have a coupe of recent detailed zipper tutorials which are a great place to start. Also a couple of videos on understanding boxed corners. If there's anything specific you had in mind, you can email me directly 😊
I sewed my first bag last night. It would had been perfect. But my Zipper didn't come out so good. But it's my first Zipper I have ever done in my life. I will keep on trying.
That looks like a high end Chanel bag. I love the colors your customer chose. I bet she’ll get a ton of compliments on the beautiful bag. At $55 that’s a steal!!! Thank you for sharing ❤ I have thoroughly enjoyed watching all of your videos and have already learned so much from you
Very nice. I have some vinyl sample swatches I’ve been holding on to for at least a year. Intimidated. After watching you, I think Ican do it too. Thank you.
Hi Christine. Watched your video from 7 months ago, stripe and circle/ retro crossbody. I learned so much... the zipper installation I will use from now on and you talked about the paper backing. Looking forward to watching more, I spend so much time ironing but saw its not really necessary. Time saver! Thank you.
You are so welcome Vicki. Sometimes you get lucky with the swatches and they come off quite easily. Most of mine recently are stuck fast, and need a very hot iron to release the glue😁
A suggestion for you Christine: You should cover the backside of your metal label with a fleece or foam as to not be directly against the lining fabric to protect it. The metal backing pieces could wear a hole in it with use. Plus you would not feel the sharpness of the metal when putting items in or taking out of the bag. Using a fabric glue to adhere when the bag is made from vinyl. Otherwise a fusible fleece or foam on cotton fabric. Takes the bag quality to a higher level.
Very nice bag and excellent tutorial. I've sewn many bags, and I think the only thing I might have done differently would be to finish the edges of the lining to prevent fraying. However, you said this was likely going to see minimal usage, so finishing the lining seams probably not necessary. You did a perfect job of matching seams. I'm not always that good. I always enjoy your videos. We like to sew many of the same things. Good luck in your shop and with your channel. Kay in Dallas, Texas
Thanks Kay. I rarely finish the seams with my lined bags, as the raw edges are always hidden away from view, and the user is unlikely ever to open it up. If it frays terribly, then I'll overlock the edges, and if they're not lined, then I'll always overlock/serge the edges😁
Thank you so much for such excellent instructions! You are so easy to follow, I’ve sewn for 50+ yr & learned a lot from you.🎉 you have given me inspiration to get at those books of samples I’ve had for years,😂😂. Watching from far, far away in northern Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦.
For the sticky residue on the vinyl, have you ever tried sprinkling baby powder on it? Or use corn starch if you don't like the baby powder smell. I would think that would bind to the leftover adhesive and be easier on both machine and cleanup.
Hi Christine, I'm a new subscriber. Where do you get your samples from? Top-stitching is a simple way to make things look professional and posh. Provide you stay straight. My niece is a seamstress and she picked up a mens' western-style shirt in black once. And top-stitched it in red (for herself). I think she may have taken the waist in. So beautiful!
As usual, I enjoy watching you videos. Leather workers, would use some glue to hold the edges of tabs down. It's an extra stem, and not necessary, but a fine detail
I love the video. Your bags are beautiful. I have some vinyl that I purchased and want to try your technique. Thank you for sharing. Would you share what size needle you use with your vinyl?
I live in the United States and just happened across your channel. I subscribed immediately! Your work is beautiful. Could you please share where you purchase your vinyl swatch samples? Thank you so much!❤
Thanks Christine. Any tips on cleaning self healing cutting mats? I have fibers sticking out, especially noticeable after slicing batting, thanks, jane
Thanks Amrita. I use universal needles 100/16 but have used 90/14's as well. I just sew more slowly over the bulk. I usually use Guterman sew all thread. I rarely use specialty threads😀
Thanks Fran. I'm guilty of just using regular Gutterman Sew All thread. I don't purchase anything extra. If a seam needs more strength, I just double stitch it. 😁
What is on the label, below your name? They're very pretty by the way. The bag is very elegant with those colors. It shows off the shine more than the fabric/vinyl.
This is so beautiful! I got to thinking, I wonder if she has a specialty strap to attach to her bags. It will match her clothing, or style of clothing, hence the two tabs on the bag. That way she has a daytime crossbody bag, and a night clutch. I have one bag for everything and everywhere, at anytime 😂.
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs It's a new fashion "thing". People can buy, or make, straps with beads. During the day, they use it for cross body bags, and take it off at night and same bag is an evening clutch. Like I said, I have one purse for everything, everywhere, anytime of day. 😂
Christine. Just found your channel. What a beautiful bag! How do you remove the paper backings that are hard to remove? Some are very sturdy. . Thank you.
Thanks Christine, I will try that. I watched your shop tour video today, absolutely beautiful things! Don't know where to start with your other videos.
Hi Christine: My name is Sherrell. I live in the US and I'm wondering how you find samples of different fabric and vinyl? Thanks in advance for answering!
Hi Joy. I don't usually use serger threads unless serging. I find the threads too fluffy and weak. I almost always use Gutermann, and also love Rasant and Mettler😀
Your prices seem a little steep to me. I'm sure they really aren't. How do we sellers here in the USA get people to realize why we set the value of handmade the way we do? There are too many people looking for items for free, or basically so. My handmade doilies, in my opinion, are worth alot more than $2.99 a piece. Beautiful 8" doilies, and others should be at least priced at $10. Bigger ones should cost more. People around here won't pay thay.
I agree Patricia, but from my own experience, I think we can be our own worst enemies when it comes to pricing. I used to worry too much about what I thought customers would pay, but found that there are far fewer that balk at the price than there are people who don't sew and can appreciate what we make. I'm also very fortunate to have a great tourist trade😀

Zippers on vinyl are quite difficult.
Well done Michele. It gets easier each time. Enjoy the journey😀
Gorgeous just gorgeous! She is a lucky lady. Chris is right looks like $300 bag. You should be proud of yourself!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you Debbie. I was pretty pleased with the turnout of this one😀

That's lovely Lydia. Thank you. The customer did great choosing her colours😁
I'm not the biggest fan of the fabric colours, but my goodness that bag is just so beautiful in design - it's breathtaking 😊
Thank you so much John. That's very kind😁
You work so hard to make the bags. If treated well, these bags should last for many years.
Thanks Arvetta. Certainly doesn't feel like work, when you enjoy it so much😀
Christine, you’re a natural born teacher! Thankyou for sharing your talents 🌻
That's so lovely. Thank you Wendy 😊
What a beautiful looking bag,not that your other ones aren’t beautiful.Very subtle colour choices looks awesome.
Thanks Eve. I must admit, I was surprised at how it turned out. The cream zipper definitely made a difference too😀
I like these bags that you use your metal name tags on. Chris is right, these are "high end". Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Cynthia. I was surprised he said so give that everything we have is pre-loved😁

You certainly can do it Lucrezia. Using samples is a great way to practice too, and a teflon foot will make life much easier😁
That bag is so classy looking, the colour panels work really well together, expertly sewn!
Thank you Lynn 😊

awesome - keeping it out of the landfill - recycle - reuse & enjoy the new life - love all your tutorials
Thanks so much Joyce😊
You could also put baby powder or cornstarch so that it won't be sticky.
Would that clog up your machine Teresa?😁
I just sew a bag like you make, and it is wonderful!
That's fabulous Ann😀
That's a lovely complement, she's right!

You're very welcome Wendy. Vinyl is really nice to sew with😁
Beautiful, Christine, I can see a glam collection for your shop starting.😄🥰
haha, I have the back wall glammed up with a display of them😀

Another awesome tutorial, Christine. I’ll give it a try, put it in my queue. Thank you.
Thanks Bessie. I hope your queue isn't as long as mine🤣

I've heard this mentioned before, but my concern would be the powder getting clogged up in my machine when it gets near anything with oil😁
Beautiful. I love the colors too.
Thanks Melanie. To my surprise, the colours turned out great😀
Love it. What a great job!
Thanks so much Michalina😀
I love your videos. I’m so curious about your shop. You should do a video showcasing it.
Here you go Nicole. I did a tour of the shop a few months ago 😀

@@ChristinesHomeAffairs I totally get that. The bag is still lovely!!!!!
I love the video. Your bags are beautiful. I have some vinyl that I purchased and want to try your technique. Thank you for sharing. Would you share what size needle you use with your vinyl?
Thanks Ruby. I used 110/18 universal needles. I have made them with 90/14's as well, but go slower over the bulk😀

Welcome to the channel Deborah. I get most of my fabric for free. These were sample swatches. I have several "free fabric" videos in my playlist😀
Thanks Christine. Any tips on cleaning self healing cutting mats? I have fibers sticking out, especially noticeable after slicing batting, thanks, jane
I've never had and success getting the fibres out Jane. I keep a seperate mat for battings, and my regular mat for fabric😁
Excellent instructions thank you. Could you also state in the voice over what stitch length is used at key points?
Thanks Heather. I've been adding that to my recent video😁
Great tutorial , is there a place in the video of the sizes of the bag?
Thanks Theresa. The finished bag measures 8" t the base x 2 1/2" and is about 7 1/2" high and 10" wide at the top 😀
Lovely bag! What weight thread do you use for vinyl? Do you use a special needle? Size 90? Thank you for a clear and helpful instruction💙

Hi Sherrell. I've done several videos on free fabric that may help. ua-cam.com/play/PLwdRgjJztIb2l6Jk1WaG6yrMGMAsxaEH4.html&si=UbfBvZ8RvUyjn8yz
Could you sprinkle some talc on the tacky parts?
That's not a bad idea at all, though I don't know if the powder residue would affect my machine😀
The rings you used are called split rings
Thanks Diane. I had a seniors moment🤣
Tote with square corners
If you sprinkle a very small amount of baby power on the sticky area that will take care of that!!!
Thanks Deborah. I worry that it would affect the machine if any powder get to the oily parts though😁
What size needle did you use please?
Joyce, I usually use a 90/14 universal needle😀
