They’re all lovely and I bet that the fabric would make beautiful junk or art journal covers, too. What a nice friend!
Thanks Amanda, I think so too 💕
now this is what i been looking for!! my former co worker brought over this VERY HUGE bag full of upolstery fabric swatches (i used to be a receptionist at interior design firm for over 20 years. i since retired) and there was all kinds of goodies in it. well i design canvas tote bags and make up pouches (CHASSIEDOT CREATIONS) and i just got into sewing. i have been looking at lots of quilting videos here on you tube and i have a fantastic idea to use those swatches. so thank you for this fantastic video! i can't wait to jump into my swatches!
Oh how exciting to have a huge bag of these wonderful goodies. Happy Creating and I will check you out on YT 💕
So beautiful! Love all the neutrals but my favorite is the pale turquoise one.
Thank you, that one really is popular 💕
Wow, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video. I was given about 15 of those fabric sample books & needed ideas. I eagerly await to see more of your fabulous ideas. From just what they look like on camera, I particularly like the blue colored one that you sewed the trim onto. Thanks so much, Nina!
I’m so glad you enjoyed this video Lyn. My head is spinning with ideas and I will definitely be back soon to share more. In the meantime, Happy Creating ❤️
They are all gorgeous, I couldn't choose a favorite either!
I scored some upholstery fabric too, and wallpaper sample books as well! So much fun! I love what you’ve done with yours!! I just finished making a traveler’s notebook style junk journal from them and posted the video on my channel.
They are gorgeous Nina and such lovely fabric . Love the one with the tree 🌳. Tfs hugs xx
Thanks Marina, I love these fabric samples and my sewing skills are gradually improving haha ❤️ xx
Beautiful fabrics. The reverse side of some of them are gorgeous also. Great idea. Hard to pick a favorite.
Thanks Dawn, I think the reverse sides are pretty too 💕
These fabrics are gorgeous. What a great find! Love these bags . Thank you
Thank you. I still have them sitting on my shelf with some little journals half finished. I must dig them out and finish them off 💕
Removing the paper edges... THANK YOU! Always a struggle and turn off for me. Beautiful project 😊🧡
Thanks so much but for watching. Glad this was helpful 💕
Genius! Love them all, but The one that looks like a spring tree in blossom is my fav! I wish I’d known to iron the paper off. I had a couple books given me yeats ago and lost a lot of fabric because I cut the paper away! 🤨. I made a few of these clutches to use as packaging when gifting the cards I make. I made a patch work quilt for my son with the rest. He still uses it in his spare room. That was about 20 years ago! It has worn like iron! TFS I did. God bless and stay safe.
What a shame you didn’t know about this sooner. The blossom one is my favourite too. I bet the patchwork quilt you made was amazing and how lovely that he still uses it. Have a wonderful week and thanks as always for sharing. It really is appreciated ❤️ xo
They're all so pretty it's hard to choose a favorite! I really like the one with two fabrics. Thanks for the tip about getting the paper off. I have a bunch of these and didn't know what to do about that so there they sit!
Thanks Sadie, I hope you’ll enjoy creating with yours 💕
What fun! I think the tree one with the slightly wonky edge is my favorite. Thanks for sharing your amazing free goodies. What a wonderful friend you have.
Thanks Kathy, I am blown away by these gorgeous designs and after I’d got the hang of it, I had a blast making these 💕
Fantastic pouches. Years ago (well forty years to be precise lol) I used to make my children's clothes so I always bought and had lots of fabric. This is a wonderful idea. Tfs xo
Wow, you are crafty 💕. So glad I have finally got to grips with a sewing machine 💕 xo
Nice find on your doorstep Nina, beautiful fabrics, nice job.
Aren’t they gorgeous. I’m thrilled to bits with these 💕
I cannot wait to get my hands on one of these books. Very addictive ideas. x
Wonderful fabrics. I love the flower and leaves best, just because they are heavier fabric. Love the color of the light blue fabric and it’s pattern.
Thanks Cheryl. The fabrics are all gorgeous 💕
I just partnered with my local furniture store and they gicw me their discontinued upholstery samples. I love the idea of repurposing the samples. Like you mentioned, they are so pretty and giving them another life is addictive. I look forward to seeing what else you come up with in your videos. I have used the samples as pockets to plain canvas to create purses or totes, as we call them. I sell them for my time and if I buy a closure or inning fabric. But i dont charge for the free fabric. Half of the proceeds helps me buy fabric or yarn and I create wearables or blankets to give to charities. It saves the landfills and helps me give more the charities. My customers love the concept.
The one reminds me of a cherry tree with blossoms. It's gorgeous!
Thanks Anne, it reminds me of a cherry tree too 💕
My fave is the one with the trim. But they're all cute! I'd love to see what else you do with them! Thanks Nina, for sharing this great idea!
Thanks so much June 💕
That’s a brilliant tip about ironing the paper backing to melt the glue! I acquired several books of upholstery samples over the summer and have just now started using them. Now I know how to remove the backing! Thanks!
Thanks Kathy, glad this was helpful. Enjoy your samples 💕
Lovely fabric pouches. I love them all
Thanks Yolanda, I’m so pleased with them 💕
These are all gorgeous, love them Nina,,,,xxxxxx 🌸🌼🌸
Thanks so much Annie 💕 xxxxxx
I like them all! The one with the rope in the fabric speaks to me! TFS 💕
They are all so lovely Nina, but my favourite is the pale blue because blue is my favourite colour. I have tons of fabric, so I'm going to spend the weekend making some lovely bags like these. Thank you for sharing this with us. I love everything that you do. Take care, Val x
Thanks Valerie, glad this has inspired you to make some as well. Happy Creating ❤️
Brilliant idea Nina. My favorite one is the blue one with the curvy lines. You could make a fabric covered journal to match and give it as a gift. Add maybe some embellishments, stickers, etc.. inside. Just an idea I had. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks Laura, I think these will be lovely with journals inside too 💕
I love the three on the top best! Great project.
Thanks Karen, I’m so pleased with these 💕
beautiful fabrics Nina I bet you didn't think you would be sewing like this last year !!!I like the blue toned ones and can imagine a few bugle beads or sequins on them, but even a gold/silver button or buttons made from sculpey or something. Have a great day Thx
Thanks Christie, I can honestly say I learned a lot making these. For one, I finally got out of my comfort zone and used more than just the straight stitch! Hubby thinks I should have shared the many mistakes I made along the way 😆❤️
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia That gave me a giggle and a typical male comment!!!!
Wow, great tips, I love that ironing the paper off with a hot iron is so easy! That fabric book has gorgeous prints, I loved them all, but, I think the one with the branch, maybe a Pusey willow, ends ups being my favorite one. Looking forward to seeing what else you do with the book. I just recently received a book from a friend also. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Thanks Donna, glad you enjoyed the video. I like the branch fabric too which reminds me of cherry blossom. I hope you will tuck into your fabric sample book and get creative. Enjoy ❤️
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia I was thinking cherry blossom too, but wasn’t sure!
These are really lovely, my Favorite one is ALL of them. As you were doing the flip through in my mind was like nope cant gift that one, this one would be great for....nobody but me! Then it hit me, these are prototypes & I have to keep them all to practice with!🤪🤯🤣❤🤣 Can hardly wait to see what you're thinking for closures. Great work😘
OMG, that’s so funny 😂🤣😄💕😘
Lovely. What a great way to recycle lovely fabric samples. I love the geometric square shaped one on the outside the best, they are lovely.
Thanks so much Lorie 💕
These are beautiful Nina. Great idea. I love all of them but the small one is my favorite only because of the color. Those upholstery samples are a treasure. Hugs.
Thanks Lori, I was truly blessed with these 💕
In the 1960s, when our jeans wore out, we would either make cutoffs or a pocketbook. Nice to see that the reuse idea from then is still around. Thanks!
Isn’t it so satisfying recycling things. Jeans are a wonderful resource as well ❤️
What a lovely project, Nina. Thank you for the great tip on how to remove the paper backing.
Those bags are so lovely!
Thank you 💕
Hello nina, well done, alex will be very proud of you.... The fabrics are lovely and I understand your thinkingcap works overtime. I only saw the video at the end of the evening, because I had my vaccination tonight .. Love and hugs lena xxx
Good morning Lena, I FaceTimed Alex yesterday and he was amazed! Steve thinks I should have shared all the mistakes and fails along the way, he was finding it highly amusing. All I can say is the unpicker came in very handy, haha 😆. Good to hear you have had your vaccine. Love and hugs 💕 xxx
What a wonderful Idea Nina, I love them all. My favorite is the "tree" one. Have a great day, I am looking forward to Saturday's video already.
Thanks so much Debbie, I like the tree ones too, but then I love them all. Enjoy the rest of your week ❤️
❤very nice and great way to use the samples
Loved the pouches. I also love these books of fabric. My friend thought mine were tacky since not lined. I used the skinny strips if fabric. Love them gir change, etc. I put earrings in each and gave as gift. Dot o😊f velcro
I personally like it when they are rustic and not too perfect. To me it adds to the charm. Love the idea of using them for earring pouches ❤️
They are beautiful! 😃
Can’t wait to see what else you are going to do with the fabric. I love ❤️ them all
Thanks Ludmilla, I will be back with more ideas soon 💕
Really like the hessian ribbon trim - can't wait to see where you go with the closures ! 🙂
How nice! I SO like these. The fabrics are just lovely. Looking forward to seeing what you do next with them for closures and so on. Many thanks, Nina.
Thanks Edna. Aren’t they fabulous 💕
Nina you are a star! I am going to share this with rest of the team for starters. An iron is certainly a sewer's best friend ! Thank you for bringing this fabric to life x
Maggie, I can’t tell you how grateful I am for these sample books. The designs are gorgeous and have filled me with heaps of inspiration. Thank you so very much for your kindness ❤️
This was a perfect video for me... I've got a stack of upholstery books and have never been sure how to use them! Also, thanks for showing how to get the paper edges off cleanly! Loved them all!
Thanks Jennifer. Lovely to hear this has given you some ideas. Happy Creating ❤️
I have several books from a furniture store and this is a quick, useable and beautiful gift that I could make up a bunch and give to ladies at our church for their Bibles, journals, or anything they would like to use them for...THANK YOU so much for this and look forward to seeing any other uses you come up with for fabric samples TFS
Thanks so much Tracie. I love the idea of you making these for your bible group ❤️
Gorgeous! Can I use this type of fabric as upholstery? Thank you, Nina.🌹💖
I would say that some of the fabrics in this book are more durable than others, so it would depend on the upholstery project you had in mind. They’d all make the most beautiful curtains 💕
Love recycling cute pouches
Thanks Sherry. It’s very satisfying isn’t it 💕
I enjoyed your video! Thank you for the ideas. I received upholstery samples as a donation and I make purses from them. I sell them and then give half the sales to charity.
That’s lovely to hear ❤️
Love Love Love!!! this thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you so much 💕
Thank you so much Nina, I really really love ❤️ those bags, and I really really can’t choose between them, they’re all really really stunning and gorgeous too. What a great idea 💡. I made a little bag out of denim and I put my house keys 🔑 in it, when I’m in the car, stop the keys from scratching the door pockets. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
That’s a great idea Mags 💕 xxxx
These are so awesome tfs Nina, I never thought to iron that piece off ...Kia Kaha...
Thanks Mags, it peels off in seconds 💕
Love these. TFS❣ Thank you for the tip on ironing the paper strips to remove them. I sacrificed fabric by cutting the strips off. Now, hopefully, I won't have to.
Glad this was helpful. It works like a charm 💕
I love them all. My favourite colours. If I had to pick one it would be the tree with the blue fruit. All fabulous though.
Thanks Susan, I love that design too 💕
Love this more more more!! I have so many remnants about this size .
Glad you enjoyed it and Happy Creating 💕
thank you so much for the ironing tip for the paper! I always soaked my samples in a bath of water and it made such a mess getting the paper off. :)
Oh my gosh, that must have been horribly tedious. Glad this has given you an easy alternative ❤️
Beautiful Beautiful 😍
Exactly what I was looking for. I was sinking my swatches in warm water...very tiring work. Your method is much cleaner...
So glad this was helpful 💕
They're all fabulous Nina I must try this as I've a sewing machine now x
Thanks Sue. I’m so glad I’ve fought my sewing machine phobia as I’m really enjoying using it. I hope you’ll have as much fun with yours ❤️ x
I love them all! If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be the wonky tree one; it has character. Great way to use that book sample upholstery fabric. You have inspired me to do more with mine than just add them to snippet rolls. TYFS! 💜💜💜
Thanks so much Jaide, I think that’s my favourite too. I’m glad this has inspired you to do more with yours ❤️
They are great Nina, I am a bit of a rubbish sewer, I have an old machine tho belonged to my mum, but I have never used it much.
I have had a phobia of the sewing machine for years. All my family are sewers and my son has won lots of quilting competitions, but it has been a debilitating mental block for me. A friend was very helpful a couple of years ago and forced me to take my new machine out of the box and take it step by step. I broke 2 of the mini machines within a day of having them!!!! I now use a basic Brother machine and I’m so glad I’ve persevered as I’m slowly getting better at it. If I can do it, anyone can ❤️
Oh, I couldn't choose they're all beautiful. Iadmit to having a weakness for upholstery fabric. I made hobo bags one year for gifts with different prints of upholstery that I bought at a local salvage store that has a fabric department.
It’s such wonderful quality isn’t it. Would love to know what you make with yours ❤️
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia I took a favorite cross body bag that I had and made it into a pattern and made lined bags as Christmas gifts. I also turned a dingy but solid coffee table into a foot rest. I painted it black then upholstered the top with padding. Now it's a comfy foot rest in front of the sofa.
They are so beautiful! ✨
Thank you so much 💕
Thanks for this video Nina and I hope you make some more with fabric samples! My dad gave me upholstery sample squares many many years ago and I still have them! I've been thinking I might make pillows, but these bags are cute!!
Thanks so much Julie. I will definitely be back with more ideas soon 💕
love this idea....these would love great using denim too..🤩
Yes, I agree, they’d look fabulous in Denim ❤️
Really pretty! I prefer the ones with linings, and specially when the pattern matches. Closures and a bit of tape over the flap even prettier. I think, however, that I'd round the corners of the flap to stop them curling up.
Thanks so much for your suggestions Jane, much appreciated 💕
Thank you for showing how to remove the backing material. What a great idea! Your bags are a clever way to use those beautiful samples. Wonder what sorts of closures you’ll use. Ribbon ties would be pretty.
Thanks so much Mara, I’ll be back with more ideas soon 💕
I love them all❣️
Thank you so much 💕
Absolutely stunning 😊 will you be selling them ? I love the blue one with the hesian trim tfs ❤️
Thanks Claire, glad you like them. Unfortunately, I won’t be selling them 💕
I like all of them but especially the gold leaf one. Look at you becoming quite the seamstress now. You could do buttonhole closures if you want to keep them flat. (Put the buttonhole perpendicular to the flap edge for a tighter fit.) Toggle closures might look nice on these as well. Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
Yikes! That would be way out of my comfort zone and I wouldn’t have a clue how to do this. I think I will be opt for much simpler closures. Thanks for your suggestions ❤️
Love the blue one with the trim on the edges!
Hi Nina, I’m thinking that it would go perfect with a journal of the same cover, what do you think? I remember you being afraid of the sawing machine, look what a progress have you done!
Hi Eleni, I am thinking journals too. I was so proud of myself yesterday. I sat for hours playing with these samples, and my first couple of attempts were a disaster. But I persevered, and I can honestly say that after I was done, I felt the most confident I had ever felt as I learned so much from my mistakes. I even rethreaded and changed the bobbin twice without having to watch the Brother UA-cam tutorial which is a first! Progress indeed ❤️
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia hahahahaha, I know exactly what you mean about changing the bobbin, well done Nina!
My favorites are the leaf and the tree.
Thanks Lisbet, I love those ones too 💕
Like them all especially the goldie leaf one at the start 😊.Made me laugh out loud though....if you can do, anyone can....erm nope lol! Sewing...yuck 😂😘X
😂 I know how much you hate sewing machines, but your hand sewing is absolutely amazeballs ❤️😘 xxxxx
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia Ha ha....I will let you into a little secret...I hate hand-sewing too 😂 lol! x
Lovely.
Thank you so much 💕
Difficult to choose - they're all lovely and inspires me to try as I've got so much favru pieces waiting😍 💕 any size needle or type of thread?
Thanks Elizabeth. I am still using the original needle that the machine came with and used cotton that was in a kit from Aldi. I hope that helps 💕
Great pouches. Have you tried making fabric journal covers?
Thanks Tracie. They’d look great wouldn’t they 💕
Where and how would I get said fabric books. I have a great idea for making a quilt. x
If the sticky after you remove the paper is a bother you can sprinkle some baby powder on it and spread with your hand. I use it when making journals!!!
Definitely, the tree one is my favourite! How many have you made all together? 😂💜🧚♀️
Haha, I did get a bit carried away and ended up making 10! 😁❤️ xx
The tree with the multi colored fruits
😍😍😍😍😍 wow!
Thank you. Progress hey 😘❤️ x
