Wait sis LOL you can't just skip over it all like that what do you mean one of the models was trying to fight you? I think we're going to need a story tee time for that one! Lol
School teaches us to charge for our time, and craft so he is not wrong for his prices... People forget we have to pay the bills on our business, and for the business plus at home cost....... I've been getting my hair done in the salons since I was 5 when they use to charge $5-$10 per track, and $500+ for sew-ins for adults, and this was in the 80's... I've been doing hair since I was 13 Been in the shop since 18 and I can tell you it's been a journey.... Tae is worth every penny!!!
They definitely have lost their minds. Investing in myself and learning to do my own hair was the best decision I made. I remember when sew ins were only $75 in just 2015-2016. I can’t believe how much the hair prices has gone up when it comes to hairstyles in general. I feel like we’re just paying for their booth rent instead of the actual style 🙄🙄🙄
I worked as a Manager in “white people salon” and in our hair community the customer service is still lacking or non existent. And a lot of stylist where I worked had dual licenses, and they never overbooked, took a lunch break and didn’t take phone calls while working. We had someone come in and clean once a week plus the daily cleaning we all did, we offered drinks and gifted goodie bags to loyal clients. The owner also would keep a customer appreciation party for clients, so she showed love to her clients. The prices weren’t cheap but customers didn’t mind paying because it was an experience and every stylist washed and dried and flat iron each client.
And what always get me is when they do a celebrity or insta model hair ; they start seeing themselves above everyone with a nasty attitude overly priced and you don't deserve my time attitude . I'm really over it you are not trying to charge me over one hair do to solve your life problem .I'm not supporting any business because they are black if they service isn't good
$350 for a silk press???!?!?! My hairdresser is a licensed cosmetologist and beautician. She charges $85 for a silk press and works in a salon. I don’t get why people charge so much for hair. I love being able to support her because she’s reasonably priced and even when she raised prices they only went up by like max $20 a style. I couldn’t imagine paying so much on hair when people can go to UA-cam university.
And that pisses me off too. Everyone thinks that if they can get the materials together and slap some things together and put it in a box then they’re a business owner. All so they can call themselves a CEO, entrepreneur, or self-made. Not to mention, everyone is out here doing the same thing, no one is doing anything unique or special or something that they’re truly passionate about. It’s not just about hair and nails either. It’s selling T-shirts, candles, body butter, lip glosses, lashes, etc. I know that people can sell whatever they want to sell and put their own special twist on it but if I see one more person tell me that they’re selling lashes and lipgloss I’m gonna lose it. No one wants to do anything special or do anything that will require some actual education and licensure. Because that would mean that someone would have to know a thing or two about chemicals, skin care, and actual business acumen. It’s because all these social media people always show them the end where they’re packing up all their finally packaged products and sending them out to the mailbox. That part of the business side is exciting and pretty, but they never show the hard part. And even the social media girlies aren’t professionals either. They’re people just like us who want quick money and resell things like bedazzled Starbucks cups and Ali express earrings. Watch ‘small business tiktok’ here on UA-cam and you’ll see what I mean.
"$400 for five stitch braids. Hair must be washed, dried, and blow dried before arrival. I do not provide hair so you'll need to bring your own." My jaw was on the FLOOR. I'm blessed that I know how to do my own hair because no way!
If your hair isn't properly blown out bone straight or detangled, your appointment is canceled!! The deposit will NOT be refunded. They all delusional 🥴
I saw a tweet that said “The white community has been charging $300+ for color and over $1k for extensions but when poc do it it’s a problem” and someone quoted that tweet saying “Black people need to free themselves from the ‘white people do it so why can’t we?’ mentality” That could not be more true✨
And white people are also creating a great atmosphere for their customers giving them refreshments washing their hair ect . Y’all wanna charge like the white folks but don’t provide a good experience and atmosphere like white folks
We also should add in what’s included. Those salons that charge that are also providing the basics like wash and blow dry and then some extra perks that contributes to the price. You want $1k with me doing half the work at home.
The white salon is not just "coloring hair and adding extensions" they are consulting with the client about their natural hair, giving tips for after service care, wash, dry, cut, special hair treatments if needed (dry or brittle hair) the basics of any beauty service is about caring for the clients natural hair/skin/lashes etc provide tips and give treatments accordingly, the "styling" is the easy part, to say your a stylist comes with responsibility not just being money hungry, also customer service plays a major part in ANY part of the service industry it's literally #1 idgaf how good something look/taste etc if the company customer service sucks I'm gone
It’s not a mentality, it’s a legit question. And it’s so legit that it goes over peoples heads. Why is it an issue when your peers are charging their worth. Because if they’re charging that much that means what they’re using on you is not cheap at all + they care about their craft….For the amount of education because let’s be real, school cost thousands. And after school you’re still educating yourself with further classes that are also costing thousands. As a stylist you have to reinvest in your business with the salon tools, the salon in general revamping it etc.. Why is it an issue? Why does it have to be justification? It is very weird that within our black community we constantly try to shame our peers for charging what they have to charge. But on the flipside you have black women who 100% get it who will come to you, who will book the service, and they’ll tip you+ show love w no issue at all. I hear far more stories of people enjoying their hair services, or whatever type of service, from higher costing providers, then I do people who don’t enjoy it. They always say they’re happy and why they like going to that person.…
@@Lonerstoner21 I even think the white stylist r crazy to! But most white stylist aren’t asking clients to come detangled, washed, and blow dried, ALSO most of them who charge crazy prices are actually licensed and in really nice shops that have extremely high booth rent. Idc what race u r, don’t expect me to do all this work and pay a lot of money as well! My childhood hair stylist even said she thinks it’s crazy the price people r paying when most stylist don’t even care about the health of the hair, she thought it was crazy seeing people charge extra for basic deep conditioning when that should b automatically done if u shampooed.
I agree. I have had to clap back at stylists trying to charge 200-300 for $50 kitchen beautician jobs. If you aren’t licensed, educated, and in a comfortable space…absolutely not. I’m not paying top dollar to your living room and baby cry. Sorry not sorry.
Don’t knock the kitchen lol I’m going to pay for quality, the environment just needs to be clean, comfortable and most of all safe. Some of these salons have way too many people coming in and out that don’t even be getting their hair done
I don’t know about anywhere else but in California, licensed hairstylists are required to wash hair before providing services for sanitary reasons. This whole “ come with your hair washed”, goes against the board.
Most states it is mandatory that they have to wash your hair but they want you to pre-wash it because they don't want to do the work. They just want to throw shampoo in to say they washed it
I do my own hair I do my own nails I do my own makeup I refuse to spend my money for someone to disappoint me anymore! I learned how to do it all so I don’t have to spend it all
This! I haven’t got my hair done professionally since 2014! I went and got an hairstyle done that I could have done myself and that was the end for me. I refuse to pay all this money for shit I can do myself with half the service! These new hairstylist are on some other shit! Seriously then wash, braid down or anything in that aspect is extra when that’s use to be an requirement back in the days! These women want money they don’t care about no one’s hair
Here in Houston they are charging $200 for a silk press and $600-$1000 for braids. We have to stop paying and show them we the customers have the last say
Also I forgot to mention when a lady charged $150 for my wash, blow dry and silk press she was 45 minutes late. But there was a $20 fee if I was late. Clown behavior.
THIS! All the nail techs and hair stylists stay being late but if we late there’s a big hoopla talking about some fees & cancellation and “you’re not my only client I have others after you”. I remember one girl worked from home I arrived at my appt 4 min before it started and she lived in apartments I couldn’t find her apt this girl was on the phone with me told me she saw me but wouldn’t come get me. Playing w her on the phone went well over her 15 min grace period & she cancelled. When I tell you I wanted to fight her. They be playing with people money & time as well!
@@keshacoffee this happen to me lol I was too mad, I’ve arrived 20 mins before my appointment bc the girl lived on a college campus. I had to find parking which was a task, I found the building but not the dorm room, I had to ask other students to let me in the building. I couldn’t find her dorm, and the stylist knew this, but didn’t offer to meet me outside the building. Due to not finding her dorm she cancelled my appointment because it was past the grace period, but the entire time I was communicating with her over a text. I confronted her and she stated “my other clients had no problem locating the dorm or parking” 🤡
@@daishawalker217 that’s that stuff. Smh and they wanna charge deposits and not give it back when they be the problem. yup the girls are very petty! When you find a good nail and hair tech baby STICK WITTEM. This pandemic got everybody thinking they an entrepreneur but lack common sense, common decency, and customer service.
It's also illegal for a stylist to do your hair without washing or drying your hair. It's a part of the service because you need to clean the hair before using tools on multiple client's hair.
Exactly I worked at a salon and the owner would try to make me or have me style dirty hair. If it's not being washed and blow dry before styling that's considered dirty hair and it goes against how I was taught and what we were taught in cosmotology school needless to say I quit that shop.
I had a nail tech who worked out of her kitchen. I had no problem driving an hr to her because her work was excellent. Unfortunately I had to stop going because I would show up on time and she would still have a client in her chair and sometimes I would even arrive and end up playing with her child while she got ready for my appointment. I always looked the other way. One day I was 5 minutes late and I messaged her before hand and she cancelled my appointment and kept my deposit. Mind you I tip high on top of prices that she would keep raising every month. Never again!
I’ve had the same hair stylists since she was in beauty school. She was the only black woman in the school and I stuck with her. A decade later she has her own salon. Just got Fulani braids for $165, i put a deposit of $50. She washed, conditioned, and blow dried my hair. She also provided the hair, all colors from blonde to 1b. I’m glad I have her.
i am a nail tech and i am so shocked that a lot of nail techs are now charging for top coat 😭 like thats a part of the service. even cleaning up the cuticles is part of the service and people are charging an extra $15 for it and that’s absurd 😭🥺
When I was asked if I wanted a nail tech to clean and cut my cuticles they told me it’s an extra fee and I lost my shitt. Even a nail trim 😅😅. Charging for top coat is sending meeee tho 🤣
@@notaytguru8214 well of course it’ll never be $25 again because of cost of good materials and labor. Personally, for me a sets $100 and up usually have french tips, charms, or other special add ins. Length is also a big factor as well. Long nails are in rn so that another cost. I just think it’s absurd to charge for things that are included in a service.
@@juicediy2495 like i just don’t understand why prepping the nail is considered a separate cost 😭 unless you’re doing ridiculously long nails and they use an entire bottle of topcoat then i guess but it’s just wild
These stylists have indefinitely allowed Miss Rona to come and have them lose their entire minds! Half of these ladies aren't even LICENSED to do hair and you want to be charging $200+ for a damn ponytail with no wash and blowout? And don't get me started on these stupid non-refundable deposits!! An absolute disgrace
I just had this conversation my mom who went to school for cosmetology and she told me customer service is taught. Unfortunately a lot of ladies are on a get rich quick scheme, they care nothing about the craft.
Miss Butler you're so correct, I used to read my mom's cosmetology book. It covers a lot of stuff. It can be a lucrative business if you have the heart for it and the love to do people's hair.
They’ve lost theirs and I’ve found mine. Been doing my own hair for years now and to be honest I’ve done my hair better than anyone else who’s played in my hair.
I just saved myself $400 by doing my own sew in! I’m so proud of myself 😁😁😁! I only spent $2 for the needle and thread cuz I already have the hair I need. Just had to wash and condition it. Stylists in Atlanta are part of the group who lost their minds. They’ll wanna charge late fees but show up later themselves. Charge extra if they have to wash and condition for you. Then you may spend all day in the salon because clients overlap. Then I might get charged more because she’s installing hair that I didn’t buy from her. It’s just dumb! This first time doing my own sew in took me 6-8 hours total from start to finish - wash and condition my hair, wash and condition my weave, braid my hair, then sew in and style the weave. But it felt great to do it myself and take my time with myself. I just have to be intentional about setting time aside to do it myself, but 8 hours and $2 versus 6 hours and $400 is a damn good investment of my time!
These are the stylists that are broke and getting shi##ed on. People come back later down the line trying to get their hair‘fixed’ after all the trends…..it’s annoying
When I got fired from my job, I couldn’t afford to do my own nails so I bought everything I needed from Amazon and taught myself. And now U can’t tell me ish, I rock claws when I need to change my nails every 2 weeks. And it’s not hard to learn.
Could you give me some suggestions on tools I need? I've learned to sengelese twists my hair... Now I just gotta get these nails Poppin. N bye bye salons (I'm sickkkkkkkkkk of them all) 😭😂🤣🤣
Boycott the kitchen beautician. It’s always the girls without formal hair education that want to change beyond their worth and they’re the main ones that care ZERO about the health of the hair. Hair will be slayed, but breaking off when the style is over. My niece went to get some faux locs. She told me the woman was washing her hair and their hair came with the price (it was a very reasonable $180). I said “She HAS to be a licensed beautician” and she definitely was. She came back and was like “She told me not to style it for 7 days.” I responded “When you manipulate the hair soon after it can cause severe breakage.” She said “THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID.” I see the unlicensed ones style braids immediately to get a pic. They’re slowly but surly stopping their own bag with these poor practices, but the people who’ve actually formally studied hair shouldn’t be punished for these people’s doings.
We NEED to talk about how most of these new so called stylists CAN’T DO HAIR PERIOD…can’t cut, style, color etc.. it’s horrible… once had a sew-in and 5min after I left the shop something felt loose chile the braids were coming undone under the tracks….and another time I tried a new stylist showed her a style I wanted she told me she didn’t know how to do that…I could’t believe it mind you my old stylists (an older woman) can do that style in her sleep smh…and both of them had a license
How about having everyone come out of the shop looking the same? 😆 Like no matter what style you ask for you, you end up looking just like the last five people who came out the shop lol!
I have seen some who can only install and texturize/cream hair thats about it you aren't going to get much it you dont want a lace front or insta baddie hair do
I went to a licensed place, and she decided the style she wanted me to have and book me a appointment without my knowledge. She would call me ever month telling me I needed to come in and was upset when I would say no.
I’ve been a licensed esthetician for the past 7 years and I see this happening on the skin care side as well … now when I see these stylists and therapist making up crazy rules and short changing services I instantly report they ass to state board! A LOT of these new age beauty professionals ARE NOT LICENSED and they look at this industry as a quick easy bag and a fast way to entrepreneurship but have acquired none of the skills or education to be a successful business owner! So not only do we need to stop supporting them we need to report them because this mess is unsafe/ unsanitary and it’s ruining an industry for stylist (especially black ones) who have actually done the work to be successful in this business
Exactly!! No one wants to do so much as crack open a book or even take a 90 hour class at the minimum in order to learn what it takes to succeed in the industry. Whenever I see someone start their own skin care, make up, or hair brand and is highly successful it tends to be a black woman with a degree in chemistry or some kind of pharmaceuticals. And that’s why they know what works. They know about melting points and bacteria. They know about soluble and non-soluble elements, they know about emulsifying certain products and shelf life, how certain things can turn rancid under certain conditions and what things actually work on skin, especially black skin. I am so sick and tired of seeing people just toss some things in a lipgloss tube and say “Look at me! I’m just like them!” Yeah sure, you’re the upteenth person I’ve seen put a basic gloss inside of an AliExpress plastic tube with a cute label and called it skincare. Honey, I can go to the beauty supply store and get an entire pack of lip glosses, the same we’ve been using since we were children for a cheaper price. But no, no one wants to do the actual work, research, and develop the know-how to make it in the long run.
I will not pay a car payment for a hairdo ! Unlicensed Plus these stylist be having bad attitudes like they are celebrities 🙄 glad I’m natural ! I’ll flat iron and bun my hair before I deal with them
I legit went natural because of these atrocities. The moment I was told I had to pay $220 for a ponytail, I was like "yeah I'm done, #teamnatural" LOL🤣😭
The attitudes....💯👌🏿 I've felt back from quite a few im over different wicked spirits in my head one ripped my edges completely out braiding my hair in the same pattern and to tight she had problems at home with her husband so alot of that tension was coming through her work in people's head
And here I go feeling ashamed making my price list based off what the style is actually supposed to be 75$ for sew ins. $125 to make wigs the install is free and etc I be looking at other ppl pricelist and be thinking I’m shortening myself. But I’m glad this video was made my prices are definitely what they’re supposed to be I’m not gonna overcharge my girls
They are definitely charging more for doing less. This is why I'm moving to do my own hair because NOPE. Had a "professional"/ social media popular stylist steal my hair & do low quality work & thought she was going to get away with it. Nah I'm done with them. I'm not paying outrageous prices for low quality work & thievery.
Silk presses should range from $75-$95 at MOST depending on if a trim was included or not. This is including the wash! I’m so grateful for my hairstylist. She is licensed, professional, consistent and fair.
@@independentchic8458 it will all just depend on whether you got a blunt cut, layers etc. Just know that if you are seeking someone out for these services…what I mentioned above are reasonable prices😊
yes girl and the stylists DO NOT want to do your natural hair anymore either. Get a weave they don't even properly braid your hair underneath. No grease on the scalp, no wash, no nothing. I've noticed stylists are focused on doing the ig models hair for promo but the work they put up on social media doesn't even match what your getting in person as a regular client. SMH this is why I do my own hair now
But when licensed cosmetologists tried to check this we were told to shut up and let them get their hustle on lol 🤷🏾♀️ The scary part is I watch so many kitchen beauticians completely disregard the health and integrity of hair, quickest way to lose it. Results may not be immediately noticeable but the state of these scalps in a decade will be an interesting studying. And you wash clothes, you shampoo hair.
I'm so glad that UA-camrs are discussing this. They have gotten out of control! After going to my hair stylist after 2 and 1/2 years, I went on UA-cam and learn how to do the same style myself because she has went up too much. She is now currently doing a couple of celebrities, sells courses online, and travels doing events. I'm not paying $300 for a style that used to be $60 to $100. I thought it was ridiculous to pay the $250 I was playing. But she is good and they are very professional. In Atlanta finding a professional stylist is like finding the gold at the end of the rainbow. Because of that, I dealt with the price because I can't deal with the ratchet hair stylist. Now I see that all stylists are charging that amount for what I get. I now do it myself and I get compliments everyday. I force myself to just take them 4 hours and do it. They are completely out of control, and inconsiderate. I will not be going back! If I don't have time to do it, I will throw on a wig for a couple of days until I can make the time. They can kick rocks!✌🏾✌🏾
I think it is mostly is the new stylists. I go to an old school stylist and she is knowledgable about hair, her prices are affordable, and she has great customer service. These new girls need to understand having good customer service is what builds a loyal customer base.
I moved to a new town in 2019. It took me 2 years to find a stylist with prices that matched the value. I did not settle. My stylist is not cheap but value definitely matches the price. I leave the shop elated with my hair care!
Not to mention customer service is always ass … like being polite goes a long way I was blessed to have the same woman (family friend) do my braids and she was always reasonable price wise and kind💕
My biggest problem r those who complain about hair type. I have went to SO MANY stylist that have complained about my hair being thick, 4c, shoulder length hair. Which really gets me when I already paid extra for my hair type
@@claudettedoyley9056 which I am aware of but that’s their job. Imagine going to the doctor and the doctor complains about ur illness because it takes more of their time and effort. It’s their job to make everyone comfortable, I don’t want to hear the complaining, ESPECIALLY when I already paid extra.
As a stylist who has her license….. I quit because the industry needs a recession. Wether it’s y’all hairlines or it’s our bookings dropping. Something needs to receed. And a lot of the girlies chafing extreme prices don’t have a license 😭 hilarious. Imagine charging crazy prices without any student loans yo your name from going to hair school.
I definitely agree, I went to cosmetology school but choose not to get my license because the industry just isn’t the same! Like washing hair is law! Now you have to come ready and dang near with your hair almost done.! 🙄
I was gonna book with this girl, mind you she’s not even in a shop but her work is amazing! Long story short on her site she said that to book it requires a deposit that does NOT go towards the style! That alone pissed me off
Same happened to me. I saw this girl on tiktok and she was in Dallas, like me! Excited, I rushed to book despite the price. I'm not balling, but I really wanted the style. Just like you said, she had a deposit required but it was a holding fee that did not go to the service. Even-though I had the money, time, and anticipation it was the principle. I felt bulled before I even booked the service. Any stylist in demand enough to charge a holding fee wouldn't have any appointments open to book anyway. So glad she did! Because now I do my own faux lock and they are so cute.
Bro I have LOCS and these girls are tryna charge me $120 for a retwist with no style or wash. They can kiss my arse. I’m currently in my 3rd trimester and didn’t feel like doing my hair. I was looking for a stylist to do Cuban twists over my locs, mind you that’s easier since my hair is already parted in boxes. Two stylists had the audacity to say $200!! Guess who’s currently doing their own twists before they give birth 👉🏾💁🏾♀️👈🏾
I haven’t had my hair washed and blow dried by a professional since 2010 and I used to love it because i felt my hair was getting the full treatment. But now it’s always “wash and blow dry your own hair, come late, an additional $20” but when my hair dresser was late, she didn’t give me a discount. Now I just slap on those headband wigs and go😂
I remember when a wash and set was $25. Now its $75+ ( I've seen up to $125) TO WASH MY HAIR! That is absolutely ridiculous. I glad I decided to learn how to do certain things with my hair.
Imagine going to the salon one month then decide to get box braids. Next thing you know there’s a new policy that if your appointments are longer than 30days apart given a two week grace period you have to book a welcome back package that is priced at $200🫠🤬
No that's not ridiculous. The process is way longer than 25 minutes. $75 is reasonable. There's no profit to be made if a stylist is spending an hour or more on someone's head for just $25. A good bottle of shampoo and conditioner is not even $25. Then you have to think of other hair products like heat protection and edge control. You have to think of electricity and water those bills got to get paid too. And if the stylist is really good and gives you a great look and your hair is growing down your back don't you think you should pay her or him what they're worth? I'm just saying $75 or $125 is not unreasonable. Maybe $300 for a silk press is too much but $25 is Stone Age days.
It’s literally to the point where I’m just learning to do everything myself because I’m not taking 2-3 days worth of my pay to pay for 2-3 hours worth of work. To each their own
It’s because everyone wants to live a certain lifestyle now and show off. So in order to do this, they raise the price so they can keep up. It’s crazy how social media influence people nowadays. I’m so happy I found a fair hairstylist in NY!
You are so right!! Some of these "around the way girls" are charging tons of money for their services because they are trying to be like these "influencers". The want to post pics of themselves with a Channel bag or a Louis Vuitton bag. They want that life, but aren't willing to put in the work to get licensed.
Facts I will not contribute to there luxury lifestyle they wanna be millionaires off hair these chick need to learn to live in there means they make all this money but claim small business i cant 😆🥴
I have locs and I go to my loctian once a month. She washes, deep conditions, gives me a hot oil treatment and retwist/latches my hair. All of this for only $100. Before my locs, I braided and crocheted my own hair. I would go to African hair braiding shops where I would have to wash my hair before going, but I would leave in less than 5 hours with box braids or faux locs for $160. I would NEVER pay more than $175 before a tip. 💁🏾♀️
5:06 Yall see that "hair wash" for $150!!!!!? The nerveeeeee. I kid you not I got braids that lasted for 2 months for like $140. What these stylist smoking?
I'm a hairstylist of over 20 years, and a salon owner of over 10 years. There are many factors that have contributed to the downfall of the black salon/beauty industry. It is so much deeper than just social media. For decades, black women have been spending astronomical amounts of money and time, in hair salons. Many of us can remember spending hours upon hours in the salon, just to receive a shampoo and style. This is especially true in the era of roller wraps and roller sets, where lots of time was spent under the hair dryer. Going to the hair salon was also a social hour/ outing for some clients. The black hair salon used to be a place where girlfriends gathered, mother's and daughters bonded, and many political and social issues were discussed. The black hair salon was a place where cuvil rights advocates gathered and planned, as well as politicians campaigned. The black hair salon was a "safe space" where we could talk about things that we couldn't talk about other places, and with people who could relate. Hairstylist and barbers work long hours on our feet, donate to many causes, sponsor local initiatives, and are often overworked and under paid or appreciated. I myself, had never worked in a "black" salon, until I became a salon owner. I was trained by top stylist and worked as the first and/or only black stylist in several salons. White hairstylist were charging way more, for doing way less than black stylist, as well as being tipped way more. In my salon, Happy Hair Salon and Boutique, I've tried to implement the good that I have learned from my experience in other salons, while eliminating the bad. We pride ourselves on being timely (all clients are started within 15 minutes of their appointment time), and effective. We service working, professionals whose time is valuable and we treat them as such. We work with assistants to ensure that we can properly serve our clients, while maintaining a clean work space and comfortable environment. We pay our stylist top commissions and charge reasonable booth rates for the renters. We shampoo ALL of our clients and strongly encourage those who want to skip the shampoo, to indeed be professionally shampooed. Now on to the downfall of the black salon and salon industry. Salon suites, and kitchen beauticians are a huge part of the problem. If a stylist is not held accountable by anyone, they can make their own rules, show up when they feel like it, and treat people any kind of way. There is no one to stop them, but the clients. If the clients accept this treatment, why would the stylist do better? In the salon suites situation, no one is getting rich but the landlords. who are most likely white males. They throw 4 walls around you and a door, and convince you that you are a business owner. Half of these people don't even have an LLC. or pay taxes, but psychologically they believe themselves to be business owners (which technically they are). What the landlords are doing, is releasing themselves of any responsibility, other than collecting rent and keeping the lights on. It's like owning a huge salon, but because you put 4 walls around each stylist, you don't have to ensure that proper products are being used, that stylist are there on time, that taxes are being paid, that stations and tools are clean, nor do you have to pay social security and Medicare insurance for the people who work for you. The stylist, can't afford assistants, are having to shop for all of their products, wash their own towels. market themselves, and basically shoulder all of the responsibility. That can be extremely tiring and stressful. Why would someone choose this? Well because they are "business owners ". For many black stylist/barbers, they are first generation "business owners ", and that's a big deal. The problem is, many have no business background or training, and many open these businesses straight out of Cosmetology school, never having good examples of how to run a business. This new age of not shampooing your clients, was brought about specifically by "braiders" who are not licensed to shampoo hair. Braiders have fought in courts and for legislation that would allow them to just braid hair, not shampoo (because that would require schooling). Another reason for the downfall, is the old aged crabs in a barrel situation. Many years ago, during the tine when we were enslaved people, plans and plots were put into place, to keep us divided as a people. It worked! Many of us, are competitive with one another to a fault. We have not learned proper conflict resolution, and with suites en vouge, we don't have to. Everyone can run off to their cubby holes and do as they please. Who suffers? The black consumers. Who profits? The white landlords. Aa far as pricing, I'm a firm believer in allowing supply and demand to determine prices. If you are over booked at one price, you raise your prices. Even if you loose a few clients, you still break even and work smarter not harder. In a salon setting, there should be someone charging less that those clients who don't want to pay the higher prices can go to. In my salon, it's never a problem for a client to see whichever stylist they choose to see on any given day. That's our salon culture. When the pandemic happened and salons were shut down, many stylist had rude awakenings. We found ourselves out of work, and many were without any income (especially those who don't pay taxes or have legitimate businesses). Clients were blowing up our phones and begging us to risk our lives for their vanities. Personally, I found it insulting. However, many stylist obliged and opened up shop at home, for premium rates. Supply and demand dictated the higher prices. Now that salons are back open, products are much more expensive and harder to get (supply chain issues), rents on commercial real estate is astronomical, electricity is costing us more, and we are still dealing with high numbers of cancelations due to covid. If we didn't charge higher prices, we couldn't afford to stay open (inflation). I must also add, that it is not just happening in black salons, it's happening industry wide, including white salons. Let's talk about the Asian nail salons, who doubled their prices for a full set and added gel polish to the mix for at least $15 more, and for what? Has their services gotten better? Have they ever really respected our time, or treated us equally to their white clients? Are we complaining or making videos about that? That has been going on for YEARS and we still patronize their businesses without a second thought. When's the last time they sponsored your childs little league team, or brought girl scout's cookies from your daughters? Would you even ask them to, or expect them to? The reality is big corporations are running beauty schools and graduates are finishing with over 20k in student loan debt. Cosmetology is a profession, some are more professional than others. If you don't like the treatment you're receiving, keep it moving until you find what works for you. Only the clients can turn this around. Demand better, but when you find it. show your appreciation by showing up on time and by tipping for great services.
I love this conversation on hair, it definitely needs to change. I seen a post where a girl was charging $1700 for some small knot less braids. The mid back length was $900. Smh,I learned to do my hair more than 10 years ago because of a bad experience. I’m going to go back to school for cosmetology, I want to bring back focusing on the HEALTH of the hair and charge prices people can afford. To me it’s bigger than just clout and money, a lot of these stylist don’t even do little girls hair and I want them to love and appreciate their hair weave free.
This is exactly why I go to my old school African lady around the corner. These instagram stylists don't even have licenses. An Instagram stylist wanted to make me pay $400 for SHOULDER LENGTH knotless braids AND i had to wash and blow dry my own hair. Yeah, I had to take my ass to corner.
They have lost their damn minds my darling Chioma. I don’t entertain lazy entitled stylists. It’s not about hair care and the care of the client anymore. Most don’t have a business degree and lack customer service skills. Pretty soon the law is going to have to regulate their service prices if the madness continues. A lot of them are trying to live like a celebrity on their clients dime. Most don’t have liability insurance or an attorney to draft terms of services agreement or defend against litigation. Thank you for this commentary much appreciated. P.S. We are in a recession that is going to be worst than the last so they need to humble themselves. Layoffs are happening and cost of food, housing and gas are high. Losing their clients could become a real possibility.
Girl! You hit the nail on the head. My price is my price is bullshit. Charging your worth means charging a price that is consistent with your quality and the value you provide. What kind of value are you providing that suffices a $300 quick weave?!? And wash and braid down nor hair is included? Folks don’t know there’s a method to creating your prices: you factor in the time you spend, the products you use, the level of expertise, and your market location. Putting on a stocking cap, gluing hair on a cap, and styling the hair takes about an hour and 15 minutes at the most. That service does not match a $300 value. If you live in a major city know that it’s 100’s of people who do the same thing you do! Let’s not get into these novel long rules. I get anxious trying to book an appointment. Also-these bogus ass deposits and poor customer service are ridiculous. You charge a client for being late or you charge and cancel their appointment after a certain amount of time but if you’re (the stylist) late you don’t adjust the service for wasting the client’s time?!?! It’s unethical.
Just a little side note I was taught in hair school back in the early two thousands: you have to wash the hair prior to servicing legally. It’s what determines what’s a salon. Braiding shops do not have to operate under certain guidelines or have a license simply because they do not shampoo hair/ slash use chemical. Another reason is clients aren’t always honest about what’s in their hair. To prevent a negative reaction you must peruse the hair first. For an example breakage from tension after a sew in on weak hair that needed protein treatments. Or applying a metallic dye on bleached hair ect. You’re suppose to study the integrity of the hair. Something you’ll observe after a good wash and blow dry. Hair care has gone out the window along with styling and treating natural hair. I believe you’re right on about stylists charging based upon the superstar life styles.
That’s why I do my own hair via UA-cam. I’m never late, I don’t charge for extras, I wash, condition, treat and braid down, I detangle my 4c hair and I don’t spend 5 hours waiting for someone to finish talking or eating!
I remember going to a Natural Hairdresser back in 2017 where I live and I suffer from slight alopecia, in which she also specialized in, so that’s another reason I went to her. Now, I understand her consult charge ($15) because dealing with alopecia is difficult, although mine wasn’t nearly as bad as most I’ve seen. BUT, what I wanted her to do was wash, deep condition, trim my ends, and braid my hair straight back because I was going to wear a wig for vacation. She was going to charge me $200 just for that!! I gave her a look like, what??? 👀 Then she said that she has YT clients that come in and get the SAME service, including her greasing their scalp with her home made hair grease (that they pay extra for). I politely declined and did my own hair for my trip. I’ve decided to keep doing my hair at home since then, except for a few times where I had braids.
@@classygoetty1008 How is that a good price?? You can get a full head of box braids which takes several HOURS and labor to complete for less than $200 and all she's doing is is washing then doing 4-6 quick braids to place under a wig. Not even stylish cornrows you could wear by their self. It wouldn't take you even 2 hours to do what she was asking so $200 is INSANE.
Listen I’m a licensed hairstylist and I completely agree, that’s why my goal is to teach how to do your own hair on my channel. It’s so sad what’s happening in the industry, I love this industry so much and growing up with a hairstylist mom I’m used to full service salons and that’s exactly how I run my business. They are truly just trying to keep up with a lifestyle. A lot of them aren’t even licensed and the ones who are are just trying to keep up with the times and not don’t actually care about their client.
its the deposits for me!! when I see that you require a deposit, its starting to be a NO for me. I paid a $45 deposit last week to get 20 straightback braids ($125 total) and ended up waiting 2 hours for her to still be doing other peoples hair. I had to go through my bank to get my money back bc of course the deposits are non refundable. No communication on her end that she was running behind, but if I was late I would have been charged $15??? these stylists are so unprofessional it makes no sense, I wasnt even greeted or showed which room to go to when I arrived at the shop. I am def doing the mini strike and going only when necessary and not to people who need a deposit
Just this week I had two no shows in the first two days. Without a deposit I’d have 8 empty hours (one was a longer service) and no opportunity to fill them as I don’t double book or take walk-ins (‘cause, customer service.) The deposit doesn’t compensate that lost income at all, I’d much rather have done the work but it does minimize the likelihood people just cancel last minute or are a no-show because it’s raining/they woke up late/they stayed up late/found an earlier appointment somewhere else/etc. While a lot of rules are arbitrary and ridiculous some are created out of necessity.
@@ceeholland meh, then make the deposit refundable. There will be times people cant make it to their appt and the excuse doesn't need to make sense to the stylist for it to be ok. That is the risk in being in the field of providing a service (possibly getting cancelations), but you cant hold people's money hostage just because you will miss out on the opportunity to make what you could have made had they showed up. I get it sucks, but from a consumer perspective it sucks having to deal with those rules that do not provide any benefit to me, but rather make the process much less enjoyable and more stressful. Imagine if Doctors offices handled bookings the way hairstylists do...
@@MrsDD23 I get that losing money sucks but that’s the risk you take by choosing exclusivity. Taking your chances with walking in and waiting for hours, or possibly not being seen the day you need services is free 🤷🏽♀️. FTR my deposit IS 100% refundable with advance notice. Even if it’s same day if I can fill that spot (because people will call last minute to see if anyone canceled) I’ll refund you. People work hard for their 💴 I’m not here to take it for nothing. And if you’re a regular and have an emergency I’m not penalizing you, we’ll reschedule and I just eat that particular loss. I’m here to retain clients not run 🏃🏽♀️ them off. I don’t have 90-11 rules, just that one. I actually work hard to combat the negative stereotypes about black businesses especially hair services. I answer my phone 7 days a week, politely and answer all questions. I provide excellent customer service before, during snd after. I have a website and booking site for convenience (NOT StyleSeat or Acuity!) but if someone doesn’t want to do it online I will gladly call you back after working on clients and do it for you. No late fees, and build 15 min into every appt to accommodate because things happen. 30 to 60 min late is rude but if I don’t have anyone after I’ll still take you.
@@MrsDD23 Also times have changed. Both my dentist and my Vet require deposits. And guess what? I don’t book unless I know for sure I’ll make it. Otherwise I go to the other vet who has you sign a walk in sheet and then wait …. or urgent care … and wait.
@@ceeholland my dentist doesnt require a deposit, as it should be. I book when I believe I can come to an appointment but things happen, this is real life and nothing goes perfectly as planned. Non refundable deposit policies do not take that into consideration and to me that is ridiculous, hence why I will not be booking with those people anymore. But more power to those of you who subscribe to those kind of business methods. Have a good day! :)
Exactly 💯 Periodt !!! Rip-off Hairstylists & Weave,Braiders charging outrageous prices everywhere!!! They don't care,if we can't pay our bills or experience financial hardships, just to get your hair done right! & A lot of time, they install only, but Don't wash first, want you to do it before arriving prior to your salon appointment. They don't cut & style hair after install always, unless it's included in price otherwise;they charge extra !!! Enough already,we either let our hair go to avoid going to the salon, then have to pay these crazy prices to get our hair looking presentable! So annoying 🙄!!! Glad you're discussing this problem here on your forum, bravo 👏👏#QueenChioma!
Either you can pay or not🙄🙄🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️💁🏽♀️💁🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️!!!! Have a hair fund if you know you need to get your hair done🤷🏽♀️!!! Look see ins and getting your hair braided has always cost $200 & ⬆️ and you just didn’t know that you were getting changed $30 for your hair to be washed but you were the whole time 🤔🤔😄😄😂😂😂🤣🤣🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️!!!! Folks be wanting the most for nothing all the time!!!!
I tried to do my own braids to save money. I struggled for 6 hours and only made 8 braids. I quit and decided to just call the lady who does my mom's hair. Got 30 jumbo box braids for $65 (I gave her $80 because she had a hard time gripping the hair i bought, and I think she undercharges herself). She does hair at her house, and has the blue liquid to disinfect combs and stuff, so I feel kind of safe with that at least. I wash and condition my hair the night before the appointment, not because she asks, but i just want to save time so she doesn't have to be doing my hair for 12 hours, if i can help it.
Installing braids takes a lot of practice and trial and error. I spend at least 8 hours installing them but for me it's very cathartic and It gives me control of what I want my hair to look like. I get compliments all the time on my hair. Keep at it, it's definitely worth the time and money saved.
Well said Chioma! I’m tired of these suite stylist. Majority aren’t even licensed or professionally trained. I finally found an amazing shop within 30 minutes of my home with seasoned stylist and a clean beautiful salon with great service. I’m so grateful!
I am so glad you took the bull by the horn and talked about this.... Me and my girl friends talk about this all the time... I hate doing my own hair its thick and tangly ... Yet, I have been trying to figure it for years why stylist are raising their prices ... And decreasing their services. And don't get me started on professionalism... I walked into a salon last week too get my lashes done and the shop smelled love weed... Then they smoke again after she had my eyes tapped down. Then the other day I was blown away that my stylist had the nerve to say she was charging $150 for a wig install... 👁️👁️ okay wait! But her sewin was $150 ... Make it make since... I will be so glad when black women decide were not going for this ba-foolery!
Solution: The same way these so-called "stylist" had to practice, practice, practice in order to "Perfect" their methods, you too can do the same. With all of these tutorials & videos online TEACHING YOU WHAT TO DO, you ca start to do your own shyt. Over half of these "started doing hair in the bathroom upgraded to the kitchen & ain't NEVER worked in a shop" ass "stylist" ain't even went to school for it🥱. So therefore they ain't no better than anyone else. I have about 15 stylist in my whole family (including my mom who DOES have a license) so I've ALWAYS known how to do hair. As a matter of fact, the only time I would go to one of my family members shop, would be to get a hair cut or shaved off in the back or some. Other than that, I've MASTERED doing my own hair including coloring, weaves and even Jerry curls🤦🏽♀️. Point I'm making is just do your own shyt. Because can't nobody take better care of you and your hair than yourself anyway 🤷🏽♀️
My only pushback, though, is that people shouldn't *have* to master a whole new skill. not everyone can or is able to, whether due to physical limitations or others. I'm all for advocating DIYing but I think we can also say that it shouldn't have had to come to this.
@@gladiatorinsweats You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. And I wish we didn't HAVE to resort to basically "learning a new trade" just because these people are pretty much being greedy & lazy. Because like you said, everyone isn't gonna be able to just do it on their own for more reasons than one. And it's actually utterly ridiculous that some of us should even HAVE to start "DIY" ing our own hair because of this. But for those that are able & willing to do it, I say go for it.
I am definitely and old school stylist in a new era. I am licensed cosmetologist in my state an I have been told my prices are to low by other stylists. I went to their page and their prices was double the price. I was floored because she was not licensed.
I deal with the same thing, l tell people I don’t feel the need to price gouge people. The people who can afford my lower pricing appreciate it and the ones who feel like they should be high too better 🤷🏾♀️
YOU SAID A MOUTHFUL CHOMA😳 I'M SO HAPPY I DO THE WEAVE THING FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS, I HAVE ALL MY HAIRSTYLIST FROM WHEN I WAS 13 STILL TO THIS DAY AND SHE IS A BEAST, WHEN MY 18 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER STARTED TELLING ME ABOUT THE INSTA STYLIST AND THEIR RULES I BURST INTO LAUGHTER AND TOLD HER I WISH WOULD TRY WITH MYONEY OR HERS🙄🤨 I'M SO HAPPY SHE DOESN'T FALL FOR THE MESS🙌🙌🤸♀️🤸♀️😜😜 KEEP LETTING THEM HAVE IT LITTLE SIS💙💙💙💙 I LOVE YOU FOR IT ALL🙌💞💞💞💞🙏
Nail salons have definitely lost their mind when it comes to the prices too. They be switching the prices of stuff that I've had done before atp I need to learn how to do them myself.
Girl I thought I was the only person who get turned off when hair stylist write smart comments on their story! That’s a big hell naw. Very unprofessional and it’s too many of em if you are seeing them too!
They be over charging for everything and can’t do hair right !! When going to Book an appointment the tone they is straight unprofessional under booking confirmation .. I’m not paying $250 for knotless braids that don’t last .
I haven’t been to a hairstylist in over 15 years. I do my own hair and any hairstyle I cannot achieve I enjoy looking at it on someone else and call if a day. People make me tired!
I agree. I finally got the nerve to cut my hair into a very low taper… she charged me $15 ( I gave her a $20 tip) because she didn’t wash or style my hair. I came back the following 2 weeks to get cleaned up… Well, she said I forget how much I charged you but my prices have went up.. I said ok no problem… she told me this after she cut my hair… still no wash & style… I thought she went up $20 for what she done.. she charged me $35 ($20 tip ) in total $55 for WHAT?! When I saw that on my bank statement I was done… she didn’t give me a design or anything… so I started cutting my own hair….. I found a barber that charge $50 but he does designs of anything you want.. so I get it…but burn me once that’s the last time you get my money…
I’m here to speak for the stylist like my self that have ALWAYS worked sooo hard and has ALWAYS offered full service!!! I’m also a cosmetology instructor that works very hard to build more quality stylist. Unfortunately, our industry has been filled with some ppl who lack structure and education. 💔I just hate that the love and need for us has turned into hate because of social media etc 🥺
I mean price of living is ridiculous. If people don’t wanna pay those prices, just do it yourself. I don’t wear weave anymore like that because the prices on the west coast is like $300 and up. I don’t like dealing with my natural hair. I’m more of a wake up and not deal with my hair kind of girl. I usually wear a hand band wig or box braids 🤷🏾♀️
I live in Chicago & the girl who always does my makeup here charges $80 for full glam & does an amazing job! Last year I spent my bday in ATL & ended up booking an appt with a MUA there. The full glam + travel fee + tip was $150. My makeup was not good, didn’t match my eye shape, and she showed up late😩😩
This is why I do my own hair. Pregnant and all. It took me 3 days to do some marley twist 😅 but i got the job done. The last time I paid $300 was for a lace wig bac in 2013.
I take my cosmetology test in 2 weeks after that i will have my license 🥳❤️ But it’s important for NON licensed hairstylist as in never went to cosmetology school, need to know you go to school for a reason because you need to learn SANITATION, DISEASES, PROCEDURES. They probably not cleaning their supplies, not checking peoples scalps to see if they should even continue the service on a person because black people do have scalp diseases & can have lice (see it happen in school). Because anything can happen and you are liable to be sued without a license and they will make it so you can never get it! Thats why always go to a LICENSED professional. As a future licensed stylist even i think the prices are crazy!! People doing hair and dont even have the passion for it. As we learned in school its about providing a relaxing pampering experience for the client because getting your hair done is a treat and a break from work, being a mom etc. not slappin styles in womens head like they in a fast food drive thru. Everyone just want fast money its not how it works!
Okay story time so I was getting ready for my first day back in high school and I wanted to get my hair done. So I went to this hairstylist’s website because I wanted to set an appointment for a hair style and YALL let me tell you when I went to set an appointment the description says that I , ME have to buy braiding hair and gel from the Beauty supply store. And they will also charge you for getting your hair done. I was so shocked like the price is like buying an iPhone 8 Plus I was so shocked that I canceled my appointment cause no one is gonna pay 650 dollars for tribal braids
This stylist I follow on Instagram had a problem with multiple ppl reporting her to the state bored and I commented that “this is why everyone should get their license so ppl can’t do this to u just because they don’t like u” and she snapped at me nd I meant no harm i don’t remember exactly what she said but it was like “oh y’all act like having a license really mean something “ ummmm it does
That’s the problem with the world these days. And this DIY culture where everyone thinks they can get by without outside help, licensure, and certification and think anything that you can do on your own should be done on your own. The thing that you do on your own you have to have as much passion, drive, and discipline as if you DID go to school for it. In that regard having a license won’t mean anything if your product and skill is just as good as someone with the proper documentation but you just can’t call yourself a professional with subpar skills. I feel like these are the same people who laughed at the people who went to college and are having a hard time trying to find a good paying job and think that they are better off because they never went to college and saved themselves money. Now some people did hone a craft and make a living for themselves but a lot of people just ended up not doing anything and think that they can become a professional with no kind of sacrifice to be on the same level as people who went to school and tried their hand at something. I feel like that last laugh ran out a long time ago and now they’re just making themselves look stupid.
@@LoveAndSnappleyour right and I went to hair school and did nothing with it because it’s not much passion in it for me anymore and you learn so much you don’t think about when you’re self taught better technique for basic styles how to work off math and science not sight but I feel like the ones who don’t have the passion to eventually get a license because you can still work while getting certified are just the money hungry ones cause who wouldn’t wanna get better at something they claim to be their life’s passion
Those prices are outrageous! They want to ďo less for more. It's true It's all about what the market can handle. If consumers are willing to pay, they will charge. If consumer's are not willing to pay, hairstylists will be forced to bring down those prices to bring in customers.
When I went to cosmetology school (2012) I was taught that the service starts with hair and scalp examination then shampoo condition scalp massage trim if needed blow dry and style and what not. if they run out of hair send a receptionist or shampoo girl to the hair store or use what you have stashed away. I personally didn't charge extra if I used stashed hair cuz it was usually from an old client that didn't take it with them. these new people doing hair is why I very rarely get my or my daughter's hair done.
Thank you. I sat under the dryer while my stylist (who charged me $250 and showed up late) went to walk her dog and smoke a blunt. I don't want to smell weed while you're doing my hair
Honestly, I’m natural and thinking about just cutting my hair all off really short and wear it in a cute short style 🤷🏽♀️ even not getting my nails done anymore I do my own lashes so I’m good there, because we going into hard times and we really need to be saving and prepping it’s about to get real out here people…
Hairstylists/nail techs/lash techs- all of a sudden decided that they wanted to get rich fast with their mediocre work and ridiculous prices. They all claim that because they charge more that they're BETTER but people aren't dumb, they know that more expensive doesn't equal better results!
As a stylist I raised prices only when my products price changed or rent went up. Now knowing the area I work in I still stayed with in a reasonable amount. I also make sure everyone is treated as if they are famous and I educate my clients about everything I do to their crown.
I need my license to give yall appropriate prices according to time and design. Class taught us to never mess up your business in cosmetology and these girls make it hard for me to join in where i fit. Parts and being detailed are apart of the creative process. They want you pay for all and come prepared just to be late and damn sure overcharge. Braids can be up to 10 a braid. Full head varies pending length. If the client does the wash and dry for you knock off 100. these girls bad enough stay doing the same styles on themselves but not 1k for what can be 500 with tip. Oh no maam
I think what these hair stylists seem to forget is that they're providing a service. Meaning, yes they do got to go above and beyond to accommodate their clients because that's what people are paying them for. How you going to charge somebody extra to braid down their hair even though that's what you're supposed to do?
I remember when I used to get a silk press for a hood $70 and now it’s $90+ and I don’t even think the technique or longevity has really gotten all that better for most of them.

That's the difference btw white and black business and the black business owners wonder why their own black people don't support their business.

Yes, I taught myself how to crochet my own hair during this Pandemic.
I paid like 65
I used to go to the Dominicans and paid 20 for wash and sets 30 for perms😂😂

$85 is very reasonable 👍
I was just telling my home girl this… everyone wants to start a business but suck at customer service which is vital..
Bad buisness people, skilled ,but suck at business
and that is the ...TEE , smile.

Could NEVER in London.
I saw a tweet that said “The white community has been charging $300+ for color and over $1k for extensions but when poc do it it’s a problem” and someone quoted that tweet saying “Black people need to free themselves from the ‘white people do it so why can’t we?’ mentality”
That could not be more true✨

I'm so glad that UA-camrs are discussing this. They have gotten out of control! 5:06 Yall see that "hair wash" for $150!!!!!? The nerveeeeee. I kid you not I got braids that lasted for 2 months for like $140. What these stylist smoking?
You can do it at home for free.
Legit trippin and 300? For a relaxer? Literally how , silk press 350? Ridiculous

Damn, Everything was summarized an full of truth 🎯🎯🎯
💯 Well said
I love this conversation on hair, it definitely needs to change.
THANK YOUUU
Same here
I paid $180 for waist length knotless braids in NYC.
They would not know how to handle a real marcel oven and a real hot comb, and flat iron , not this plug up mess.
@@otismeotisme7987 exactly that’s why the OG aunties is where it’s at 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
They have lost their damn minds my darling Chioma.
Just a little side note
I was taught in hair school back in the early two thousands:
you have to wash the hair prior to servicing legally.
I’m never late, I don’t charge for extras, I wash, condition, treat and braid down, I detangle my 4c hair and I don’t spend 5 hours waiting for someone to finish talking or eating!
for real!! at this point its essential that us black girls need to learn how to do our hair whether it is a sleek ponytail or braids
Ive been waiting on a vid about these hairstylists😮💨😮💨
I remember going to a Natural Hairdresser back in 2017 where I live and I suffer from slight alopecia, in which she also specialized in, so that’s another reason I went to her. Now, I understand her consult charge ($15) because dealing with alopecia is difficult, although mine wasn’t nearly as bad as most I’ve seen. BUT, what I wanted her to do was wash, deep condition, trim my ends, and braid my hair straight back because I was going to wear a wig for vacation. She was going to charge me $200 just for that!!
I gave her a look like, what??? 👀
Then she said that she has YT clients that come in and get the SAME service, including her greasing their scalp with her home made hair grease (that they pay extra for). I politely declined and did my own hair for my trip. I’ve decided to keep doing my hair at home since then, except for a few times where I had braids.
Honestly that’s a good price. Especially since it’s braids it will last you
@@classygoetty1008 Not for 5-6 big French braids that was getting covered by a wig.
@@BreaLinn exactly
@@classygoetty1008 How is that a good price?? You can get a full head of box braids which takes several HOURS and labor to complete for less than $200 and all she's doing is is washing then doing 4-6 quick braids to place under a wig. Not even stylish cornrows you could wear by their self. It wouldn't take you even 2 hours to do what she was asking so $200 is INSANE.
Me finding out "stylists" are charging $700 for wig install. Let thunder ⛈ fire my nyash the day I give person that kind of money for hair do.
Lmao

Agreed, I only go to the salon for a trim quarterly. The natural hairstylists are CRAZY too! The charge everything a la carte too
Exactly!
As someone who used to have long hair, im so glad i got out that game, yall be going THROUGH IT out here 😂
YOU SAID A MOUTHFUL CHOMA😳 I'M SO HAPPY I DO THE WEAVE THING FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS, I HAVE ALL MY HAIRSTYLIST FROM WHEN I WAS 13 STILL TO THIS DAY AND SHE IS A BEAST, WHEN MY 18 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER STARTED TELLING ME ABOUT THE INSTA STYLIST AND THEIR RULES I BURST INTO LAUGHTER AND TOLD HER I WISH WOULD TRY WITH MYONEY OR HERS🙄🤨 I'M SO HAPPY SHE DOESN'T FALL FOR THE MESS🙌🙌🤸♀️🤸♀️😜😜 KEEP LETTING THEM HAVE IT LITTLE SIS💙💙💙💙 I LOVE YOU FOR IT ALL🙌💞💞💞💞🙏
Nail salons have definitely lost their mind when it comes to the prices too.
This why I invested in some headwraps. 😂 Cuz my pockets ain't got it.
Thank God I know how to do my own hair.
That was pretty cheap
This is why I do my own hair. Pregnant and all. It took me 3 days to do some marley twist 😅 but i got the job done. The last time I paid $300 was for a lace wig bac in 2013.
That’s my go to. I sit my ass down and watch Netflix while i take my time
I take my cosmetology test in 2 weeks after that i will have my license 🥳❤️
But it’s important for NON licensed hairstylist as in never went to cosmetology school, need to know you go to school for a reason because you need to learn SANITATION, DISEASES, PROCEDURES.
Its actually so sad that going to get your hair done is now considered a luxury.
This stylist I follow on Instagram had a problem with multiple ppl reporting her to the state bored and I commented that “this is why everyone should get their license so ppl can’t do this to u just because they don’t like u” and she snapped at me nd I meant no harm i don’t remember exactly what she said but it was like “oh y’all act like having a license really mean something “ ummmm it does
Wow! You were just trying to be supportive and looking out for her best interest and that's how she replied?! 😕 That's sad.
I learned how to do my own hair since I was 12. Getting your hair done is a treat. 500 or 700 for braids etc! No thank you.
It is actually easy to learn to do your own hair .. braids wigs locs etc cause I wish i would 😭 they can keep that 🤝🏾🥂.
thts why i also believe in supporting UA-cam content creators financially..they help you with so much tht will save you money in the long run
Makes sense
Thank you. I sat under the dryer while my stylist (who charged me $250 and showed up late) went to walk her dog and smoke a blunt. I don't want to smell weed while you're doing my hair

Honestly, I’m natural and thinking about just cutting my hair all off really short and wear it in a cute short style 🤷🏽♀️ even not getting my nails done anymore I do my own lashes so I’m good there, because we going into hard times and we really need to be saving and prepping it’s about to get real out here people…
Finally I been building my beauty parlor around this topic to do everything we’re supposed to at a fair an reasonable price
She has a point! Let’s put our craft before social media!
