Holy crap, the budget must be insane! Bravo to all the actors, this is one of the best school productions I've seen, but can we talk about the Carlotta especially? She was astounding, for a high schooler!
As a long time fan of the Phantom and knowing one of the Broadway Phantoms, through my wife a musician, I was brought to tears by this more than excellent production. I had some chores to do in the house but left the video playing. It was difficult to tell this HS production from the original! Are these really HS students?? WOW!
The young man who played Phantom really had a beautiful soft and strong baritone range, his emotion was spot on and I can feel that he really felt this role. That being stated, someone really should have worked with him on movement, his stance and meandering were mostly awkward (not knowing what to do with his hands fully and prop placement) and stiff, with good intention. Directors take note.
For a school production…this is absolutely INCREDIBLE. I’m personally a John Owen Jones and Kelly Mathieson fan for the Phantom and Christine when it comes to the vocal phrasing and musicality, but these two blew me away! You could definitely hear the generations of past Phantoms in this man. And I would listen to this Christine over Sierra Boggess any day (she overdoes the vibrato so much it becomes almost unpleasant to listen to). VERY well done to the whole cast of this production! Also…for some reason my favorite part of the whole broadway is the Phantom’s “Christine, I love you” at the end. And this is by far one of the sweetest ones I’ve heard yet! Always brings a tear to my eye.
While these are very very good for children, your preference for this girl over the professional Sierra Boggess is pretty suspect though. But hey, everyone has an "opinion."
@@eXcommunicate1979 You seem triggered by my suspect “opinion”, which I stand by as I’m sure you stand by yours. Just because someone is a professional singer doesn’t mean everyone is going to like them. The beautiful thing about music is that it’s subjective. There are no right or wrong preferences. You enjoy your cup of tea and I’ll enjoy mine :)
I guess with that being said... I'm more of a Sierra Boggess and Ramin Karimloo type of tea, lol. Sierra Boggess does excellent in showing her emotions when playing Christine. I remember watching her in Vegas before she did the 25th anniversary, and I was really pleased. I was sitting in the 2nd row, so I was really able to see her performance up close. Ramin, however, I've only watched in the anniversary, but he is probably the best Phantom I've seen play the part. This HS production is really good. I've seen a few HS Phantom of the Opera, and this one is probably the best so far.
@@cookie_monztyr4678 Don’t get me wrong, her acting and stage presence is also amazing, but I just wish there was more dynamic contrast in her phrasing. And I am just easily annoyed by excessive/wide vibrato, hence why I often can’t listen to operatic singers (besides Andrea Bocelli when I was younger). Like Josh Groban. He doesn’t really do it for me but he was amazing in Sweeney Todd. And I’m sure a lot of elitist mainstream artist lovers would disagree with me lol
I am shocked. I grew up being a total “Phan” since it came out in the 80’s. This is NOT an easy musical to do given the vocal demands. I’ve watched a lot of High School version, and often “chuckled” under my breath, but this blew my socks off. There is a lot of talent in this production. Kudos to the set design too!
That was a surprisingly good phantom and Carlotta there. It's also amazing how these school productions resourcefully put together special effects that are on par with big budget stage productions
Obviously a very large budget. But a budget doesn’t buy talent. The phantom’s voice was impeccable and clearly he was well trained. Some of the scenes fell flat because of the stiff movements and lack thereof. But they’re high school students for crying out loud. Truly beautiful performance all around. So very impressive.
I'm so impressed by the fact that you all gave Madame Firmin a larger presence in this performance. It didn't occur to me until watching this that we only see her during Christine's gala performance, then right after to say "Greedy!" and then oddly never seen again. It was a great choice to include her in additional scenes!
Unbelievable. Hard to tell it’s a high school production. The phantom blew me away in “All I ask of you Reprise”. It’s my fav part of the show and he nailed it.
I'm huge fan of the Broadway Production (loved the 25th Anniversary show). I've seen many high school performances over the years, and this one is certainly in my top 3 favs. Well done! Bravo to all involved!
That was absolutely spectacular! That phantom was amazing- his singing was beautiful and even got me teary eyed at the end! But the whole cast was very good too with Carlotta especially giving a wonderful performance. Can’t believe this is from a highschool!! 😮
.... This was literally a fifteen minute drive from me this whole time. I could have seen this show back then I could have fallen in love with "the phantom of the opera".... Ten years before I actually saw it? I don't know what to say-
Great HS production from these awesome students. I really love how they brought the Opera House decor to life with the angels and the chandelier too. However I loved the overture the most by the start of this and it was fantastic coming to life at the beginning :)
The chap who played the Phantom had a really good voice. Played the part well, as did Christine. Charlotte & Raul were also excellent, wonderful voices. Overall this was an excellent school production. All those set changes must have been hugely expensive. Great job everyone! 👏🏻
Wow! Incredible for a high school performance! The actors were wonderful. The sets and costuming were incredible. I’ve seen a high school performance and it was nowhere near this well executed. Brava!!!
Thanks for posting the whole show. It's impressive. Kudos. FYI for viewers, the full cast and crew list is posted at 1:14:25 in the video. The Phantom is Jacob Schmidt, Christine is Regan Bolt, Carlotta is Ellie Heinzen. I liked Jessica Minter as Meg Giry, too. I hope they stuck with it and went pro. They have the talent. Dance training would be beneficial for Jacob Schmidt. As others have commented on his performance, much of his body movement was stiff and awkward. I wouldn't normally comment on it as his movement is on par for a high school production, but it stands out here because his singing is so advanced. And, the physical acting ability he did have at his disposal showed his solid understanding of the Phantom character. Jacob is a larger man (and clearly strong; he easily lifted and carried Regan Bolt), but that shouldn't deter him from dance training: there are larger-bodied musical theater pros who are triple threats. It's not mainly about making him a dancer. Better control of his body as an acting instrument would make him a better stage performer overall.
What I always love abt Phantom of the opera is like the logic. Phantom: clearly knows what goes on in the theatre and has secret passages Everyone: loudly discusses their plan to kill him in the theatre Like😂😂 guys maybe go ANYWHERE else?! Just a thought 😂
Ive seen a few of these high school productions and so far the one character that is CONSISTENTLY slaying is Carlotta. Like doesnt matter what the rest of the cast is doing Carlotta ALWAYS slays 😂
can we just comment the fact that us school productions of musicals are infinite times better than the official theatrical productions in Italy? What did we do to deserve this??
I wonder how much UA-cam videos of professional productions of Phantom, in particular the 2011 25th anniversary show, was used as a reference point by the cast and crew.
This was an outstanding production; one of the very best non-professional casts I have ever seen. The Phantom was magnificent, and La Carlotta was equally so. Brava also to the singer doing Christine Daae, she has a very bright future as well. The monkey during Masquerade was perfect! Bravo et Brava one and all!.
How did you get the boat to move. I dont see any tracks and certantly the phantom didnt push it with a stick. Was there a remote control front wheels system maybe?
I had the same question about the boat since the fog's failure to cover the stage (it looked like it was being blown out of the way) exposed no track, no cables, and that Jacob Schmidt wasn't really 'poling' the boat. Possibly there were wires instead of cables that don't show up on the video. Given the quality of the stage production overall, I just assumed the boat was remote controlled. If the boat was in fact controlled by Regan Bolt (Christine) on a wheelchair, I'm impressed: I rewatched the scene 31:00 to look for signs of Regan maneuvering the boat via wheelchair and didn't see any. The boat traveled smoothly on its winding course across the stage with just a few small jerks. Regan looked like she was sitting still the whole time with no apparent leg or hand movement. She would have had to both propel and turn the boat across the stage with her weight, her co-star's weight, and the prop's weight while looking like she was sitting still the whole time. After rewatching the scene, I still think the boat was remote controlled.
What are the legality hoops you have to jump through in order to film a production like this. I’m an honors film student in college and we tried to do a live video production of the yeston Kopit phantom but could not get the rights to film the production in any capacity. Did you get special rights to film this production or do they just not really enforce it? because I also considered that possibility.
Well, this might as well just be the Broadway production! It's that incredible! Can't believe this is only high school! Bravo to the entire cast, but especially to Carlotta and the Phantom! Wow! Everyone did such an amazing job! Does anyone know if this is a high school for the performing arts?
Definitely had some issues with the ground fog. The machines where not strong enough and there was some breeze. 3x 1500 watt machines with chillers would have been perfect for this application for future note of u ever do something that needs a low lying affect.
Well you’re wrong we had 1500wat low-lying fog machines the issue was six weeks before the production new heating and air was installed in the auditorium and they decided to put a outtake directly over the stage which now has been changed but it was a huge problem during show . Just show you 😎
To the young man who played the phantom, you have a remarkable voice. Wonderful performance by all of you.
