@@sailorarwen6101 Oh, ditto! I mean, I love Emma Watson, but Emmy would've been a much better Belle. Emmy Rossum was a fantastic choice for Christine. Her and Sierra Bogess are my favourite, because they both capture the innocence and sweetness of the character. Many times the part of Christine is sung in a legit soprano style, but I think it makes sense for Christine to sound young and inexperienced, as she is a singer with immense potential, but is only at the start of her career.
So you basically don't understand the story that after being tutored by the Phantom, she is meant to be a revelation as a great singer, not a young and inexperienced one who basically can't hit the notes in places. The actual meaning of The Phantom of the Opera is so dark, but this movie does a good job covering up the darkest meanings of it and shows a well-put-together beautiful production. The music is absolutely captivating and I tend to go back and listen to the songs because they are just that good. This movie was released when I just turned one and for this video to come out twenty years later when I just turned twenty-one kind of blows my mind.
Critics of the movie had an unrealistic expectation that it would replicate the stage production. Just accept it as its own interpretation of the book and of the musical. I loved that Emmy was the same age as Christine, she has a beautiful voice and played her to perfection. Appreciating movie Christine doesn’t take away from Brightman or any other Christine. Butler was the right choice for a movie Phantom. Appreciating his vocals and presence doesn’t take away from Crawford or any other Phantom. Butler is a man you take a second look at when he walks by…and Phantom needs that charisma to coax Christine into the shadows.

When this movie came out I kept saying please don’t ruin it but they were able to capture everything so beautifully ! The music the feeling everything ! This will always be my fave show ! The music to this day gives my goosebumps goosebumps ❤
It is my favourite movie and the music score sticks in my mind like glue for days, even weeks after I watch it. It’s the best musical ever. Each time I watch the movie, I notice new and interesting aspects of the film. So well made! It completes the story of the theatrical play and makes it so rich. The masquerade piece is gorgeous! One of my favourite scenes of the film. Thank you for making this film.
I’ve seen this movie and musical do many times. The stars aligned this year, my daughter’s high school put on POTO and she got the part of La Carlotta which is the role she has wanted to do since she was 6 years old. This movie and show will forever be an epic MASTERPIECE.
I love the Phantom movie; including the acting and singing. The two main issues I find with the movie version is the shortening or omission of certain songs, and the lack of ‘scary’ phantom make up at the big reveal. Compared to the stage production it is very low key. I can remember thinking the first time I saw the movie ‘is that what all this fuss is about?’ 😅 Gerald Butler’s range is much closer to my own so I love singing the sound track with him vs Michael Crawford. The stage show will always be better but I love the movie too.
I especially love "Past the Point of no Return" Gerald seduces and pulls you in and you can't help but be Christine and try to resist and be memorized.

Butler was the right choice for a movie Phantom. Appreciating his vocals and presence doesn’t take away from Crawford or any other Phantom. Butler is a man you take a second look at when he walks by…and Phantom needs that charisma to coax Christine into the shadows.
they genuinely did such an amazing job on this movie, this is my favorite movie of all times I've probably seen it like 15 times maybe even more
I want to watch this again, I love it so much , such a wonderful drama, beautiful made, love Gerard Butler here and Emmy was young and beautiful then. Wonderful and thank you for making this movie.
i watched this when i was 10, i turn 21 today and this was the movie that made me start my journey on music! currently a year 2 voice major in a conservatory :):)
This will always be my favorite movie. It was perfect in every way.

Such a beautiful movie. I was lucky enough to see the live show when I was 10 and instantly fell in love. The movie was so well done and such a good tribute, despite what some people say!
You see, 20 years later and it remains my absolute Roman Empire
This is such an incredible film! Casting was perfect! Definitely deserves its flowers 🌹💐

The best Phantom ever. Gorgeous voice and gorgeous on the eyes.
My favourite movie growing up, made me fall in love with the phantom of the opera, 2 years ago seen the stage show finally! Phantom of the opera will never not give me the feels honestly 🤍
I love this movie. I bought it ages ago on DVD. So glad I did.
My FAVORITE version of Phantom of the Opera. My boyfriend & I both love this version & watched it recently together for a date.
I don’t care how old this is. It is my favorite movie. I have watched it over and over. Seen the Broadway Play and have the dvd. I will always watch it❤️❤️
One of the few great movie adaptations from a musical ♥
I saw Phantom on broadway when I was just 8 years old and I was captivated. I then went on to see it 4 more times . When this movie came out I kept saying please don’t ruin it but they were able to capture everything so beautifully ! The music the feeling everything ! This will always be my fave show ! The music to this day gives my goosebumps goosebumps ❤
Love this movie! First time I watched I was mesmerized.
Best cast ever ❤
I loved the film and have a CD, I have watched it many times. Will watch it many more.
I meant a DVD
I would just like to thank whoever casted Patrick Wilson as Raoul because 20 years later I’m still not over it
Absolutely stunning movie, perfect in every way ❤
I have loved this movie from the moment it came out. Now years later my daughter also loves this movie. Its one of our favorites to watch together.
OMG Gerard is so handsome... and a good actor
insane time to release this but I'm so for it baby lets go
Emma is the best esthetic Christine. Her innocence is amazing. Gerard Butler is also amazing. His singing is soulful and sad.
I’ve seen this movie and musical do many times. The stars aligned this year, my daughter’s high school put on POTO and she got the part of La Carlotta which is the role she has wanted to do since she was 6 years old. This movie and show will forever be an epic MASTERPIECE.
I love the movie.
Gerard Butler. All day, everyday. This man is who other men dream of being.
Love this movie of all time
WHY ARE WE FINALLY GETTING THIS VIDEO NOW😭😭😭
I love the Phantom movie; including the acting and singing.
Let me summarize your comments: the movie sucks and is badly sung
@@kevinwilson3609I think you meant a great movie with emotional singers
@@kevinwilson3609 dude ,..REALLY SICK AND TIRED OF THE SNIDE NEGATIVE COMMENTS U HAVE SPAMMED ALL OVER ON SO MANY OTHERS POST HERE. GO GET A LIFE!

MY FAVORITE MUSICAL EVER~
It's one of my favorite movies! Brilliantly made! ❤
This is what started my love for musicals and theater! Cats is a close second ❤️
They never show enough of Gerard Butler…
Beautiful story. Loved the Broadway show. Loved this movie.
Patrick Wilson's voice is amazing in this movie
Incredible Masterpiece ❤Bravo❤
I absolutely love the movie ❤
I especially love "Past the Point of no Return" Gerald seduces and pulls you in and you can't help but be Christine and try to resist and be memorized.
And the look from Raul is just...😚👌 The realization that he could never awaken this passion in her.😜😄
I was watch this film on old tv when i'm on 8 is so marverlous and i love it until now,i love so much to the film color is so excellent.
