- The best storage container/tote for fish quarantine/hospital. Today I'm showing 3 different storage bins that can be used for fishkeeping. These are meant for indoor DIY applications. Tractor supply stock tanks are cheaper and more durable, but are better for outdoor fishkeeping. The IKEA storage bins are the best. Let me know in the comments below if you found something better.

55 gallon black bins with the yellow lid at home depot for 25 or 20 at walmart work great
might have to try some of these as they're definetly a lot cheaper than acylic/glass, here in the UK we can pay £1 or more per LITRE(not even a gallon) so any "hobby" animals that require tanks are automatically expensive.
Yeah it can be rough starting out. When I lived in an apartment complex I would check out what people leave next to the dumpster at the end of the month. Every now and then a free fish tank would appear!
How many liters the white one sir? Anyway Thanks and Godbless.
About 140. Thank you!
I’ve been looking at a ton of videos with people using these storage bins as tanks, and I forgot where I heard it, but someone suggested that if your bin is bowing, to put a ratchet strap around the perimeter!
I really wanted to get into goldfish, but since I’m in college I don’t wanna spend money on a huge heavy tank. So instead I was gonna grab a 50 gl sterilite bin (that’s the largest size they have that’s still clear) and try that out.
Racket strap is brilliant! Thanks for sharing that tip. Bowing was what was keeping me from going with a bin tub.
how did it go? (if you got the fish)
I have found the hdx tough tote is my favorite it does bow but it makes it so if you build a frame for it you can insulate it very well. Which makes it so if you heat it you can leave it outside longer. Heck its offered in a number of sizes. From 10g all the way up to 75. I'm liking the 55g tub I'm building a plywood frame and using spray insulation for it. And it will be amazing.
Any update on your HDX tough tote with a plywood frame? How's it holding up? Was planning on going this route.
If you went this route, did you end up putting another layer of pond linder on the inside? Heard about HDX leaking chemicals but figured i'd ask someone that's actually done it.
@@user-uq4ly6fp6m I ended up not going with that tot. I have a cheap 30g tot with a bit of support wish there was more but it's working good so far. Fish are in it and they are alive and well. I have some insulation sheets wrapped around the pond and I put a layer over the top at night. So it stays warm easier. It is going good the endlers are breeding like crazy. Started off with 25. Now I have atleast 50.
Can't talk about holding water etc, However I always found the clear ones with those tiny Lil bars held up for years and years for storing multiple things.. the blues always stressed out , turned white at the stress points and always broke. 🙌🍦👐
That is a good point. I'm not using the one showing the stress points currently but its definitely something to keep an eye on.
How are the bins holding up after 3 years?
Yo! Thanks! I'm planning on turning one of these into a turtle "pond".

I'm planning to get a IKEA setup. Thank you for sharing
What do you think about the Cambro 182612CW135 Camwear 26" x 18" x 12" Clear Polycarbonate Food Storage Box? I was thinking about getting that and making aquarium out of it. Just kind of wanting to do my own thing instead of paying three times that much probably for a plastic aquarium.
Those bins will open on the middle and will loose the shape, I have used these and it happens the same, sooner or later.
I’m thinking about using one of these containers to put my water in to fill my aquarium after a water change. I have a 40 gal aquarium. Thx for your video. Was worried about the water being toxic from the containers
LOL. The price on the IKEA one has doubled.
I need help!! How do you sterilize these boxes at the start? Need hosp tank asap- thank you- hope you see this
Found one at family Dollar for 19 bucks for our turtle.
i'd love to know the type of plastic for the clear one
I bought a SAMLA 65 liters, to put guppies and shrimps, do you think a 130 liters would do it to or is it risky to burst under the water weight ?
130L = 34 gal
Would the burst?
What about the plastic leaching chemicals?
What is the best way to keep sponge filters down. Mine keep floating up. I had to put stone pebbles on it. The catfish keep knocking them down.. Still thinking to get fluval filter.
You need to squeeze the air bubbles out while it’s underneath the water, otherwise it will keep rising. Very common in new sponge filters. Hope this helps!
There are larger clear ones at home depot: 40 and 50 gallons.
Great info!!
Are those toxic or not
Sterilite bins are considered the best for fish keeping since it is durable, and does not break down; if the plastic isn't food/water safe, I wouldn't put fish in there (it releases toxins and can kill your fish)
@@yui9956 how can I know if it’s food safe?
@@gomez3357 if you look at the recycle number (the triangle with a number in it) 5 is one of the safe ones to go with. Dont forget to cycle the tub first tho!
@@yui9956 So is the Ikea one in this video safe?
@@starglqm yes, it's most likely safe since his fish are doing well in there :)
Can the plastic harm the fish?
Depends on the container. All sterilite containers should be safe.
Dont you have to use sterilite brand because it does not break down?
Sterilite brand is the best for fishkeeping. I ve got two Sterilite totes turned unto saltwater tanks
Great idea. Trying it out myself
These are the absolute worst they contort and lids collapse wtf are you smoking
