Beautiful craftsmanship! I agree that curved structures are so much nicer inside than straight, flat walls. When I lived in India, the inside of a mud hut was my favorite place to be and we have stayed in some amazing hogans in the U.S. Southwest.

Yes we've known each other since 2008 and she bought the place a couple of years ago but only moved full time recently. Our other friend, Sanchia, will be on her nearby piece of land part time but Sinead is here for good now. 😀
The Dutch couple at Our Portugese Homestead has been living in a yurt for some years. I remember a few years ago they replaced the canvas and waterproofed the roof canvas again. They have a wood stove that Leah sometimes cook on but they have a separate kitchen
Yes I know that channel and they seem to get along ok in their yurt. I think Sinead will also have an outdoor kitchen and will protect the canvas with some other shade clothes over top. 🙂

Yes I think Damien builds all the yurt components and then constructs it on site, but you'd have to contact him to know for sure. I think he'll hand off deck duties to Carl to focus on the yurts exclusively, though, but they make a great team!
The yurt looks fabulous! I totally love it! But does it give you adequate protection from the heat? I think Sinead should build a compost toilet and shower combo. Stone ruin? Also when the deck is built, a sheltered out door kitchen would be awesome. There would be enough space inside in cold rainy weather. Amazing!👍🙂🇨🇦
The yurt was super hot in the day at the beginning but the shade cloth and window covers have helped and she'll eventually put a larger set of shade cloths over the entire thing. It's perfect at night, though!
Sinead's yurt is lovely, especially like the windoor. I think figs that have been dried are so bitter & revolting but could eat them straight off the tree every day of my life. There's a fig tree not far from my home here in South Wales which overhangs the pavement a bit & occasionally I've been lucky & able to pick huge juicy figs on the way past.

Sinead's yurt looks thin, sure it is plenty hot now, but come "vinter" it looks like it would not be able to keep in the heat in,, did it come with more layers ?

I’m glad you like it, having experienced Mongolian yurts, too! Damien really put his heart into this yurt and Carl and him and Sinead worked hard together on the deck so I’m not surprised at how well it’s turned out! I think it’s beautiful! 😀
The yurt looks very cool. I love them. Does your area have termites? I found myself worrying about the wood and sawdust as I watched. I didn't hear if the sawdust she used is treated. Maybe it's not as much of a problem there as it is for us here though.
The sawdust is mixed with agricultural lime, I think 5% of that, to deter bugs but I'm not sure termites are a huge problem here. I think they're around but they're not something I hear much about, fortunately!
In the last video of LEAW (LeaveEverytingAndWander) i heard for the first time about figleaftea…maybe you want to try it,seems to be very healthy and yummy too.
The top is actually plastic but it comes right off for better ventilation. It's only on there now because we had a freak little bit of rain recently but it'll come off again soon.
Regarding the sawdust as insulation. Are there issues with insects and or moisture infiltration with the saw dust. Does the sawdust come from insect/moisture resistant wood?
Please can you consider your music for the people that listen with ear phones and on there cellphone's. It is a volume key movement all the time. Peaceful music will be appreciated, with out the beat.
Honestly choosing music is a hard and time consuming part of this and I just go with what sounds decent and is the right length. Sorry if it's not to your taste, I could try to lower the volume a bit and see how that goes.

It does get quite hot in the summer but it's quite robust stuff. She'll have insulation on in around October.

Pretty hit at first but shading the windows and front has helped a lot.
and in the cold in winter etc. Traditional yurts have insulation. But the yurt itself is beautiful, I like the windows, the doors and the colour!
