Oh my husband is going to be so happy! He loves banana bread. I only like bananas in a bowl of Rice Krispies. Now a happy husband and a great smelling house! Thank you! Many blessings to you both.
Tom and Melissa... I could not stand it until I had a chance to bake these bars!! I went down to my local Walmart and bought the pan even! Let me tell you, everyone... it doesn't need the banana flavoring because of course I forgot to buy it so just went with the vanilla. These are rich, moist, ever so delicious! Oh my gracious! I'm not saying don't use the banana flavoring because I do love it, but don't worry if you don't have it. This one's a keeper!!! Five ♥s!
I remember my mom making this several times a year. I got her the subscription to Taste of Home along with all the cookbooks. When she passed away her first born got everything so you can't imagine how thrilled I was to see this recipe. I learned how to cook and bake from her. I wish I still had all of her cookbooks and all the recipes she hand written out for me. I'm still bitter with her first born taking everything but thankfully he can't take all the wonderful memories I will cherish until my last breath
I love this recipe, I use chopped walnuts in the bars or on top of frosting. I don’ care for artificial banana flavoring so I would never use that. I also use riper bananas and that gives you more banana flavor. Judy
My son is now 33 but when he was 7 we got a cake for his first holy communion from TCBY frozen yogurt. It was owned my a very sweet Asian family. I asked them to put God Bless you Anthony. When we took it out of the freezer to serve it we opened the box and we all busted out laughing. It said, “God Bress you Anthony “. 😂🤣😂
I loved my old handmixer. I got that green thing back in the 70s and we just had to replace it within the past couple years. You are right. They don't make them like they used to.
Yes, I still have and use my old GE hand mixer we bought in Japan in 1967, when I was a newlywed Air Force wife. Good job! Thanks for a delicious recipe!
The banana bars look delicious! Definitely will be trying these real soon! Your hand mixer takes me back to my fresh year in college at Oklahoma State in 1969! I remember learning a new term I certainly didn’t know in high school. Planned obsolescence! And there you have it for the way things wear out today - though I’m sure manufacturers would disagree! I remember my mother’s refrigerator back then. It was an old Fridgedaire they had purchased probably in 1950! That thing was still going strong and I’m not sure she ever had to purchase another! Things definitely don’t last like they used to! Thanks for another great video!
@@cynnail395 Sounds about right! Must have been a “thing” fr discussion in all colleges back then! I don’t remember our daughters ever mentioning it when the were in college!
I beat your record! I got the same hand mixer that you have 51 years ago as a shower gift. It also still works. Nothing will last that long today. Oh my! Your banana bars are delicious. My grands will love them when they are here tonight. Thank you for the day to follow recipe.
We will be married 58 years in August. High School sweethearts. ❤️❤️ Happy early anniversary to you both. I’m heading to my kitchen to make this. It sounds so yummy and we love banana anything!!!
This looks really good and easy to make! I've been cooking for many, many years and my kids are grown and gone, but I'm always interested in recipes that are quick and that I know my family will enjoy when they come over. Also, I particularly enjoy your instructions given so clearly and how you're very organized with everything set out so orderly. You and your wife make a great team doing the videos!
Well y'all I did it...I made this cake this evening and it is delicious!!! I did use almond extract in both the cake and icing instead of banana b/c I didn't have any. I love y'all's recipes and I try them as soon as I can. I am so excited about cooking and look forward to each new recipe you post. I am 70 yrs old but feel 20 yrs younger with this new excitement you have generated in me and my life partner Ken is enjoying it too!😊😅 Thank you so very much! God bless y'all!!! 😋🤗🥰😘😇🙏🙏🙏🙏
Baking time for me was 30 minutes, but I only had a 9x13 inch baking pan not a 10x15. Oh my goodness, this is so good. I think the sour cream adds the moistness and flavor pairs with the bananas. This recipe is a keeper. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you ! I make an easy banana Bread: 1-box yellow cake mix, 2-eggs, 3-ripe bananas mashed up. *Chopped nuts optional. Mash bananas, mix eggs, *nuts, mix in cake mix - pour in a 9x13 pan or 2 loaf pans. Bake 350, 40 minutes depends on your oven. Enjoy.❤️
My dear that back of the spoon trick is one of the best that I've learned in years. I really appreciate that with the elevated spoon theory. I really enjoy watching your show.🎉❤🎉
Can’t wait to try this recipe. The only thing I would change is adding banana extract in lieu of vanilla in both the bars and frosting. Thank you for the recipe. Issaquah, WA 🇺🇸
My mom has always used sour cream in her banana bread. It makes it really moist and delicious. Thank you for that recipe Felisha. She was a little girl in my brothers kindergauurden class in 1966. This was the recipe she brought in for the class recipe book.😊
I bake bananas in the peel at 350 for 15-20 minutes. Allow to cool, peel & use! They will exude juices, so be sure to bake on a rimmed pan. And, Darren McGrady, “The Royal Chef” makes a similar cake that has caramel frosting that my family loves (& freezes well). Having said that, I’m always up for cream cheese frosting! Thanks for another super video!
I love banana bread , I just made one a last week with pecans in it and ate the last piece this morning for breakfast with my coffee , it was so delicious I baked it in an 8x8 dish w/o frosting and cut it into 9 squares , so yummy ! Toms banana cake looked delicious ! Hope y’all are enjoying that Fl. Sunshine , it’s still cold and been raining a lot here in Ohio ! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
I’ve got tons of frozen bananas in freezer, tired of the same old loaf and muffins…going to try this. Love you videos, simple and concise..homemade,…..ty for all the recipes on UA-cam. I use to watch The Kneady homesteader….she great but came back from life changing tragedy….would the binge watching…highly recommended
I always have sour cream. I do enjoy buttermilk but the way I bake I end up using sour cream to whip up something delicious instantly. Ima makin’ this now. 🎉
Hello Tom & Melissa - This is way too funny. I had bananas that were really ripe. So I made some banana cake batter that I usually make into muffins. However there were lots of bananas so I put it in 2 Pyrex dishes that are probably 15 “ x 20 “ and I put chopped walnuts in one & made one plain banana. It is so funny I made a banana recipe the same time you did. What is even funnier yet it was a taste of home recipe that I have adapted a bit to work for me. What a funny coincidence. I came to watch you tube before going to sleep. I will be going back to kitchen to cover the second one in a few minutes. I believe I had 15 (smaller) bananas to use up. Glad I got these done. Cheers to having a banana recipe evening together, states apart… 👏👏👏💕🌻Hope you got to visit with your friends today & they arrived ok.
These Banana Bars look so good!! I make Pumkin Bars with walnuts and a cream cheese frosting. I make my frosting with less sugar. They are so good. I’ll look for my recipe tomorrow and add it to the comments.
Amazing how men of your age have decided to dedicate precious time to do great things in the kitchen and teaching savory baking recipes. Spending time in a kitchen in America while having a day job… it is a luxury.
If my banana's aren't black, I put them in the oven at 350 for a few minutes. Once they turn black, let them sit for a few minutes to cool off then peel them and put them in your recipe. I've found this brings out the sugars in the banana and it tastes really good.
I’m sure some chopped pecans would be absolutely amazing in the frosting on the banana bars. I love your channel and watch it all the time. I like your recipes because you use items that most people have in their kitchen and I also love your channel because you don’t waste your ingredients. You and Melissa are the best. My niece made my day yesterday. Your cookbook went on sale again and she ordered me one. I’m so excited about it I can’t wait for it to arrive.
I made these this evening after watching the video. They were a big hit! I literally finished spreading the frosting and my husband was waiting to sample them. He and my son both ate two pieces each!
Hi Tom and Melissa! Love your t-shirt 🎣 Enjoyed the story about the birthday cake. That happened to me a few months ago, but it was the paper that was left on the burger 🙃 they didn't believe me until I showed them. 🙄 Oh I like the idea of banana flavoring to enhance it. Awesome idea for the flavoring in the frosting. That is just genius. Thanks Melissa for the recipe. Have an awesome day.
Yummy yummy I luv bananas but my partner can't eat them b/c of health reasons so I am going to just make it vanilla or almond extract sounds great. I will let y'all know how it turns out 😋😋 thanks for the awesome recipe. May you continue to enjoy your vacation God bless y'all 🤗🥰😘😇🙏🙏🙏🙏
If I love banana bread with walnuts, then I am sure I will love your recipe. I will make it torow and why not throw in toasted chopped walnuts on top of frosting 🤤😋
Delicious! It is a very good recipe. Not being one that will stress out my mixer, I added 1/8 cup of heavy cream to the frosting and it came out perfect! Very easy to mix then and great consistency for spreading. Thank You for sharing your recipe! 💕👍
My husband and I watch your videos just about every night before bed. We have gotten so many good recipes from you guys. Can’t wait to try this one. Keep the videos coming!
TOM & MELISSA THAT FROSTED BANANA BARS RECIPE IS DELICIOUS . I'VE HAD IT BEFORE & MY HUBBY & I BOTH LOVED IT . WE'LL BE MAKING THEM AGAIN SOON . GOD BLESS YOU BOTH VERY MUCH . (TAMMY FROM CALIFORNIA)
I did try out your frosted banana bars recipe, but I put a little twist on it. I used cake flour that I had left over, one cup of granulated sugar, and cooked it in a glass sheet pan 9"x13"X2". In the frosting I did use vanilla extract. While the cake was cooling I added some of the frosting to melt down into the cake. After it cools down completely I put the rest of the icing on it. It is so good and so delicious. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. God bless you and have a wonderful day.
Lol you are really spoiling me over cleaning out your bowls and using your finger cleaning the blades of your mixer. I watch other people every once in awhile and they leave half of what ever they are mixing in the bowls, blades or etc. I love your explanations and all of what you do. Thank you so much for aaaallll you do.
Oh my gosh, I just finished a piece and it was decadent! I added chopped pecans both in the batter and on top. So yummy! I am so glad I found your cooking show and love watching the videos. Thanks so much Tom and Melissa!
I love to watch your videos. Melissa should come on more often. Lol You know, if she would get on your left side like she is at home, it might be easier for you to show everything. Lol I want a piece of that banana bar!
I have made this before and its delicious. But i have to thank you for recommending the banana flavoring in the frosting. I am a banana flavor fiend and i cant wait to try it.😊
Good morning Tom & Melissa, trust you are still enjoying your holiday, looking good. Well ripen bananas are so good to use in baking. I have never made a sheet banana bake, only in a loaf tin. I usually add 1 cup of chopped walnuts/pecans to the mix, it is delicious, I noticed in a American Woman's Day there was a suggestion to add a teaspoon of mixed spice to the mixture. I suppose it is something different, I tried it, but I personally did not enjoy the flavour. You can frost the loaf bread but we slice and butter ours it is really such a delicious bake. Many blessings.
Love the color of your kitchen aid. Beautiful. Y’all are such a lovely couple. One of my favorite cooking you tube channels. God bless you both. From McHenry, MS
I would probably put a teaspoon of both banana and vanilla extract. I love vanilla & I make my own vanilla, so I know it's good. I'm a true believer in using real vanilla & not the imitation stuff. It totally changes the flavor of your dishes. I've had people tell me how they wish their chocolate chip cookies tasted as good as mine & I told them to stop using the imitation vanilla and use real vanilla. It may be more expensive, but it's totally worth it.
My husband and I have been married for 27 years, this last January. We have my mother’s KA stand mixer that she bought in 1982 and it is still going strong. We just replaced their Bunn coffee maker. It was 44 years old.
YES 👍 I WILL PREPARE THIS RECIPE FOR MY PRECIOUS GRANDCHILDREN AND EXCITEDLY WAIT FOR THEIR SMILE & YUMMM~O RESPONSE 👏♥️♥️👏 THANK YOU FOR PRODUCING THIS EXCELLENT TUTORIAL AND SHARING THIS DELICIOUS RECIPE👍
OMG, this looks amazing. I love anything banana. This would be sooooo good. When I was growing up, I always had to lick the beaters and the bowl. I still do that today. LOL I do not know why, but it is always fun to lick those beaters and the bowl. My mother had a very old tiny pan, when she made a cake, not cake mix, she would take a little batter and make me and her a tiny sample. We would eat it HOT and boy, was it good. She always said, I have to see if it is good. My mother was an amazing cake/dessert maker, that is how I learned to bake. I used to help her always make a cake. This looks so good, I am going to have to make this. I love all your recipes. I found your channel right before Christmas, and I have alot of your recipes, I copy/paste them then print them off. I need to get me another notebook and page protectors and start me another cookbook, as if I did not have enough recipes. I love church cookbooks too. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a great time in Florida. I was thinking, add banana flavoring to the icing. LOL
This is one recipe that I will have to make ☺ I do love Banana bread, but this look's so delicious 😋 🍌 Happy Baking and thank you for sharing great idea's! 🥄
I thawed out a turkey from the freezer I bought when they were on sale Thanksgiving. (I always buy a few extra and freeze) I cut it up like you showed, and oh my word, ty Ty ty for the tip. It’s so much easier, and it cooked so much better. This cake looks delectable. We need a cookbook from y’all.
I’d love to buy a few extra turkeys at Christmas but they are $75 here, and not very big. It fed 5, and one meal of sandwiches for 3 and it was done! Most people feel lucky to afford just one.
Hello - Come Sit At My Table... just wanted to drop by and say thank you both for all you do.I am happily baking this cake (in the oven now) ,starting on the icing. ☺️ Will be a sweet addition to our salmon patty supper.. I so enjoy banana anything ,cake bars, pudding ..haha ..have a wonder-full day ..my kitchen is really smelling good about now👋🌻 The cake turned out perfect, waiting for it to cool for icing... I didn't have any banana extract on hand ,so what I did was cut off a 2 inch piece of another banana.. (ate the rest ) 😊 mashed it up and added it into the icing as I was stirring it up ..
My hubby and I just made this bananna bars using bananna extract for both cake and icing. This is the best desert ever! We love it and we love ur videos keep them coming! 😋
I remember snacking cakes from the 70’s..momma never baked except for the box but were delicious when ,you had no reference of the homemade products…ty

You guys are so cute. I LOVE anything banana. I'm not a sweet eater, but I'm definitely going to make this. Because it's banana, thanks for sharing this. Jayman...

Great t-shirt!
Awesome timing for me!! I have 5 over ripe bananas on my counter!

Oh boy bananas anything 😊
Looks amazing! So glad to find a different banana dessert.
LOL
I’ll have to make this banana cake for my son. It’s his favorite!!

So funny, I LOVE the corner piece of all cakes and brownies. To each their own!! 😋
Thank you just looked at bananas on counter and then I got your video. On my way to making this. Thanks again
