New information thanks to Widowmakers Lighters: These were sold to Zippo Distributors for sale to their wholesale customers, who in turn sell to stores and then retail customers. Some would end up at shops being used while the majority were sold into the collector market.
Very neat to see you finally get one of these Fuel Stations, Jon. They sure do cost a lot but nice if you can get one cheaper. That sure is one great Corinthian Zippo too.
If you are ever in Bangkok, Thailand, there is one huge Zippo-collector guy there who owns and the distributor of Zippo lighters there and the store is having hundreds of designs there. Some limited to Thailand even. Four of these Zippo fuel stations is in the store's window in the colors of red, green, ivory, black on display. Four colors. The store is in Siam Center shopping mall 1st floor. Worth to check out the treasures there.
