Looking to convert my Trek Marlin 4 to an e-bike to get around my hilly college campus. Do you recommend getting the kit with the battery or buying a battery separately?
What type and brand of chain is best to cope with the torque of the BBSHD kit? And are quality heavy duty chains available for the Shimano and SRAM geartrains?
@@stevenbusk539 Hi Steven, for the chains, i go with the cheapest SRAM or Shimanos, whatever is cheapest at the moment. I do this since 10 years and never had a problem. "Quality E-Bike chains" are not worth it imo, they do the same as the cheap ones. You better go with a quality brand and take the cheapest model. But yes, there are a bunch of more expensive models you could use, they will work as long as they are compatible with your shifter and gears (10s,9s, or whatever your numbera of gears are).
Hi Frypanny, well, i think it can handle the weight of the components and yours, but the question is if the frame can handle the torque generated by the motor. The motor (-totque) will pull on the chain with 1500 watt, that is some serious power. Is it a hardtail bike? And is it a MTB? Maybe you can send me a link of the frame or a model-nr. so i can have a look for you ✌️
Its a good looking city-bike, but the BBSHD would be a bit overkill if you ask me. I would suggest getting a bbs02 instead. Its cheaper, and you can run it with a (also cheaper-) and smaller battery. With the bbs02 you will also be able to use the smaller gears without having problems from to much power. So the whole bike will be a bit better balanced. Only thing to check is if this bike uses a "BSA bottom bracked". I normaly only do MTB conversions, and i am not sure if a citybike like yours does maybe use a other standard than the BSA that is the normal MTB standard. So if you buy it new, ask the seller if it has a BSA bottom bracket.
What a nice bike❤
Is it a 9 speed shifter, the x9..?
Hey Shakey, its a 10 speed, but the model is called x9 ✌️
Nice Wheelie at 0:25 ;)
Best wheelie-foto we ever made ;-)

do you think a slim aluminium framw can handle 12kg (motor and battery) and a 60 kg person?
