- Just a quick walk around the outside and inside of the 2018 Ford Raptor I just got. Couple of complaints, lot of likes. In depth interior options video coming soon.

I kind of like the keypad. I surf and have to hide my key somewhere while I was in the water. This way I could keep my key in the car and just dial in my code when I get out of the water
he also forgets that this is a truck, many owners will use it for work, have gloves on or be wet. so the rubber makes it user friendly.
I bought mine yesterday for a little over 3K off MSRP... same color and wheels as yours w 802A package. So far I can't help but grin when I drive it! Love it and thanks for the videos!

Dude your videos helped me decide to pick up a 2018 Raptor in white, so thank you. Two comments I have, both about the running boards. Less than 24 hours after I bought my truck, someone hit me while I was parked at a gas pump. Surprisingly a replacement is only around $850 installed, but there are 0 available in NA. The only way to get one is an emergency order and there is no ETA. Secondly I remember your comment about your weight on the boards. I’m 6’4, 400 pounds and my boards are totally stable when I stand on them. I’m not going to test my tailgate step, but the running boards are solid.
UGH of course it happened within 24 hours. what a bummer dude. I'd had mine a month before i caught a rock in my windshield and starred it. Sucks that they cant get you a board any sooner. I'm in the same boat with my hood vent. They said they dont know when it'll get in. Thankfully its not a functional issue.
LOL man, that tailgate step makes me nervous and I'm not even close to the 375 weight.
Glad my video helped man. One thing I'll advise (if you dont do this already) is get in the habit of STEPPING out of your truck and not sliding off the seat. I think that leather is going to wear out quick on the side if i slide over it a few hundred times.

I'll take key pad entry over a remove tailgate. To each his own. I like the key entry after using it for recreational days and I'm sure you would too if you lost your keys at the lake multiple times. Awesome feature to be able to lock the keys in the truck while on the water and not worry about loosing them.
I'm not opposed to the actual feature so much as I am the presentation of it. There are other vehicles (some fords too) that have the same option but the buttons are in the B pillar and not on an actual button pad.

Hey man, just stumbled on your videos. I was debating between a raptor and a Jeep SRT but you say you switched from Jeep srt to raptor. So I am curious about the pros and cons? I have a grand Cherokee high altitude currently.
Hey man. So the only real pro the jeep had was speed and performance. That engine is one of my favorites I've ever owned.
It's honestly apples and oranges, but the raptor is just such a nice truck. It's way more comfortable, feels safer, better passenger space.
I had SO many issues with my jeeps interior/body panels/electronics. It was just poorly built. Mind you this was a 2012 and a first gen body style. I have had 0 issues with the raptor and im on my 2nd 2018 (sold the truck when covid hit and got another earlier this year).
I say all this and I would totally buy another srt jeep as a mess around car, used. They're super fun, just remember it's a Chrysler. So...
Really depends on what you need. If you need a truck the raptor is amazing. If you want a fast suv the jeeps gonna be a lot of fun. Both have their own issues but I've had a much better exp with the truck.

Nice review. Make sure you keep your tailgate locked. I have a Ford ex cop friend said they can steal your tailgate easy when it is not locked. I ordered a 2018 F150 Platinum 4x4. They said 6-8 weeks for them to get it in.

On my 2010 raptor I used one of the aux switches as an on/off for my radar detector. Mostly for when I drive through garbage ass Virginia. You can also use a switch as a garage door opener. I never did that though. Good review!

Hey man great video. I just ordered a 2020 raptor and I too am coming from a Jeep SRT. How did you like going from the smaller / faster SRT to the raptor?
The jeep was a great vehicle. I had some issues with mine but overall loved it. Just totally different drives. The truck is way more comfortable for sure. The cab space is hard to beat. I let a friend borrow it to drive 3 or 4 hours away for a funeral yesterday and he said the highway ride was amazing. TBH even a limited/plat f150 would be a great purchase.

Big Guy Bigger Truck Yep I did the same thing. I really shopped around before I decided on the raptor. I daily the Jeep SRT right now and I also have a 2010 4Runner so the raptor is going to be very different in a lot of ways and a big upgrade in other but I am confident I made the right choice.
I am jealous you have such a sweet ass ride! if you get a new front bumper I will buy the current one , and for the auxiliary switches , use them for you light bars when or if you get them!

I like that the 2018 keeps the 2017 grille and headlights on the Raptor. The new lights on the regular 2018s are ugly to me

If you removed the key locks in the door handles, how do you get in the car if the battery dies when you leave the lights on accidentally (or the battery just dies)??
yep. thats the problem with that method. I found another way. www.jimmijammer.com/JJ%20description,%20113400%20and%20450.htm requires removing hte door panels but doesnt remove the door lock holes.

Any issues with the CF pieces? Deciding b/w two trucks, only difference being the CF option. I've see quality vary from appearance and durability standpoints. Some hold up well, others yellow, crack, basically turn to shit. At essentially $1000 for the option, I'd rather not pay for something that will eventually look like your Great Dane's excrement.
What do you think about the sync system? Switching from a jeep grand cherokee srt do you miss Uconnect or do you prefer fords sync3 system? Im only asking because im trading in my 2015 dodge ram R/T for a 2018 ford raptor in the coming months and im going to miss my Rams and its infotainment 😭
Well, my Jeep was a 2012 so the unconnect system may have been a bit outdated honestly. It didnt really do anything special. Sync3 is pretty nice though. Android auto isnt bad but i think apple carplay might be better based on the time ive used it. android auto (when plugged in) seems to almost make it impossible to manually go into your phone without unplugging it. thats really annoying. apple carplay doesnt seem to have that problem.
Has the added width of the Raptor caused you any problems parking or on bridges on two lane highways where there's inevitably a tractor trailer coming the other way ?
hasnt really caused any problems driving. I do get a little nervous when a tractor trailer is coming just because im not totally used to where my corners are yet. but it hasnt been bad. parking can be a challege but the 360 camera really helps.
If you change the door handle, the smart lock/ unlock won't work. If that doesn't bother you, just leave the old handle electronics plugged in and secure them inside the door. That's assuming you can get the linkage to work.
Having come out of an Jeep SRT, are there things you miss? Having kids would you choose one over the other?
Thats a tough one. I do miss a few of the performance aspects from the SRT like being able to take a turn at 50-60 mph and not worrying about the rear end coming out and the straight line speed. Most of all I miss the exhaust note. There's literally no way I'll ever be able to make my Raptor match the exhaust note of a 6.4l V8. It's just not happening. My gf claims that she was able to hear my jeep (I added Borla ATAK cat backs) 1/4 mile from the house and knew when I was coming home. I kinda enjoyed that lol.
Now, if I had children would I pick one over the other? Yeah probably. I'd honestly probably go with the Raptor with one requirement. A bed cover of some kind. I say that because I imagine with 1-2 kids you probably have a couple of extra bags/seats that you need room for + any other luggage you might have if youre going on a trip. The SRT had decent cargo room but If you put 1 or 2 kid seats in it that backseat would be totally useless. The floor is almost non-existent. The Raptor's (and all f150's) back seat in a crew cab is gigantic. So even if the seats are full you can still put groceries or a suitcase or something in the floor of the back seat. Add a bed cover of some kind and you have almost endless cargo space.
Also, if I had children I think safety would become an Issue and I think I'd choose the Raptor/F150 over the jeep just for the ride height and putting more car between me and my loved ones.

How do like the truck coming from the Jeep SRT? I actually traded my 2012 Raptor on the SRT and like the SRT, but I just miss the feeling of the Raptor (and the truck capability).
Honestly the only thing I miss about the Jeep is the exhaust note. That V8 + Borla ATAK's is really hard to beat lol. Other than that I'm really happy with it. The whole time I had the Jeep I missed having truck capability and cabin space. I'm a big dude and while the Jeep was comfortable, the bolstering was annoying and the cab space wasnt that great. The truck is hands down a better vehicle for me specifically. Once the Ford Performance tune is released (sometime between now and 2030) it'll be closer to the 0-60 that the Jeep was hopefully. If you lock your keys inside you’ll love the number pad. Sometimes I lock my keys inside on purpose. I have a older ford so I’m not sure if that’s possible or not on this but it’s nice when you don’t have your key on you.
Do you know the gear ratio for the 2018 raptors? Looking into a tune for when my finally comes in.
front and rear are 4.10. if you want a ratio by gear specifically here you go:

The keypad is big with raises buttons so that it allows you to use it even with gloves.

The one on the hood makes sense. Just not sure what the 2 tiny ones on either side are really doing. may just be a way for air to get out of the wheel wells also, dunno.

good call on the graphics removal. I get that some people dig them but I just cant stand them. Kinda like when you see a honda acord with HONDA across the windshield. like we dont know what it is lol.
and i was originally going to buy a 2017 in gray or black but i kept running into 5k+ markup's everywhere. Then my dealer called and offered me their first 2018 (which it wasnt their 1st, but whatever) without a markup. I was so close to the model year switch over that i figured I'd just wait the 2-3 months it took to get the order through and built. Really enjoying the truck so far. Exceeded all of my expectations for the most part.
Nice walkthrough, awesome color. Did they use the rubber Keypad buttons because you can use them with gloves on, something you can't do with the capacitive touch buttons on the Ford Edge? Surely one must have to wear rancher gloves when operating such a tough truck

at that point id had it a week or 2? it stretches then goes back into place. at least thats what I've seen it doo. think i had my wallet in my pocket or maybe even my carry pistol i dont remember. almost a year later the seats are still fine.

What is your thoughts now that you owned a srt jeep and now raptor?
If you want a fast SUV (or car even) and dont mind paying for premium gas every week? Get an SRT. If you can afford it go for a hellcat Charger|Challenger or Trackhawk Jeep. They're insane, but my friend has a 2016 Charger Hellcat and its in the shop with a dead fuel pump within the first 2k miles or so. End of the day its still a Chrysler so buy with caution.
If you want an offroad truck that doesnt feel like an offroad truck driving around town and can still do 100mph across dirt/mud/sand? Get a Raptor. I'm WAY more impressed with this truck than I thought I would be. I've never been much of a Ford guy but I'm really happy i went with them. Even if I would have gotten an XLT/Plat/Limited I would have made a great decision. They're just solid trucks man.

Since you own one, maybe you can answer a question that my ford dealerships doesn't seem to be able to answer regarding the technology package/Adaptive Cruise control. Does it have the start and go feature which will cruise control to a complete stop and if you are stopped less than 3 seconds, it will resume when traffic moves? thanks!
From what I know ALL f150's have the same Adaptive Cruise with stop/go. So the Raptor should also fall under that same logic. I doubt I'll ever let it do it but it should be capable.
I have read on fords website, that it does, and it doesn't, well, I should say, that is is described as having stop/go and in other places it does not include that description.. Soo, if you ever get a hankering to test it out, would love to know definitely.
i'll see if i can test that out this week/weekend. Now im curious too.
Sweet, i have seen that same question posted on different ford forums. i'm likely going to get one myself, and it will be a daily driver in Houston, so an hr to hr and a half each way in stop and go traffic, so it's important to me! Thanks man, look forward to your testing.
Ok, so I tested it out myself and it didnt appear to want to come to a complete stop. I also did a bit more research and it looks like the 2018 Raptors behave the same as the 2017's in regards to stop/go. I.e. they dont do it. I dont know if this will be enabled in a later software update but everything I've found points to this feature NOT being available on the Raptor's.
No one has said where the slot is for the key fob is if it goes dead mines under the cup holder.

Canada One Way I bought mine as a daily driver with no plans to use it offroad and I still think it's worth it. Great truck. Really comfortable.

Very cool, I hate the micro switch tailgate way more than the keypad, that tailgate switch will probably stop working about 4 minutes out of warranty. Sadly my broke ass will never need to worry about that.

automatic with a manual mode you can shift into.
Nice truck, I am getting either that or the new bronco. You should always wear your pistol you will get use to it and where you keep it you won't be able to get at it fast enough.
333insaneclown it mostly goes in there when I have to go somewhere I can't wear it (schools/federal/state buildings). Pretty much stopped putting it there for that reason. New Bronco looks awesome.
I wouldn't ever complain about the Keyless entry buttons. They work... they work great. Wait til you take the Edge to the automatic carwash. Those whirling brushes totally mess with the Inferred thing on the Edge. Not only will the carwash lock the keys in but it also locks it out from "trying the code too many times". New fangled things are not always better.
Paul Rodrigues you should never take this through a car wash. Car washes kill cars. Hand wash only.

If you don't have 802A or your garage door opener is older and doesn't conform to HomeLink, you can use your sun glass holder as a compartment to Velcro your garage door remote and hide it.

The reason they wouldn't do a touch pad is because in bad weather, good look pressing any buttons without it pressing others and then itll just lock u out the truck without the key. The buttons are a minor thing, its stupid to even complain about it.

I love the keypad. I agree it could be hidden but being able to lock your keys in the truck, drop the tailgate, and have access to the truck when it’s locked is awesome!

Yup they popped that sucker right out. when the cop showed up before I even told him, he told me how they did it before looking at it he said it's extremely easy on the newer f150s apparently they've been getting hit a lot.
I'll try to find a part # for the door handles and see what impact it would have to the auto doorlocks. such bs. ford should really be on the hook for this imo.
Theyre getting me a quote on replacing the door handles. I'll get you the part # when I have it.

I'm 100% thinking about signing up for it. The only thing that has me hesitant is that I think it's only a 1-day thing. You can upgrade and get a track day in a Mustang but I look like Donkey Kong in mario kart driving a mustang :/
enjoying the hell out of it so far. almost 1500 miles on it in the first month. vinyl wrap coming soon. Ford tune coming early 2018 (assuming its released finally) and possibly front and rear bumper replacements with ADD stealths or something along those lines. and light bars, obviously :P
Middle Aged Mediocre Gaming yeah its only a day but you get a ton of driving and you gain a lot of appreciation of what the truck is capable of. You get a little bit of all different types of off-road driving. I've been waiting on the Ford tune for a while now. I'm sure they'll release it eventually, but I'm not holding my breath lol. ADD makes some sweet stuff. Expensive, but nice. I've got 6200 on my '17 and I'm loving it
