  • My impressions of the truck after owning it for a few months. Some things I like and don’t like also addressing some of the haters. One thing I forgot to mention is I do like the 10 speed auto in this truck. I think it’s really decent and this comes from someone who doesn’t like automatics.

      It is a badass truck... no question about that, but most people are not car or truck-guys/gals. Some assume it has some big block V8 under the hood, then are shocked that it has a twin-turbo V6 pushing 450hp/510tq... some are surprised how quiet it is, which it is, but punch it and it brings out a more unique/special exhaust note that I actually like a whole lot!

    Also, I have the adaptive cruise w/stop and go on my custom ordered 2018 Lariat and absolutely love it. It works great. For the memory seat, on mine you can turn on what's called easy entry/exit and it will automatically move the seat back and the steering wheel in when you turn off the engine.

    I like this review of this truck, because I bought the same truck and feel the same way I owned 2 first generation raptor with the 6,2 engine, this truck with the 3,5 is just as much fun. And the tech stuff is way better than the previous raptors.

    The remote start feature can have the heated seats doing its thing before you enter the vehicle... just set it up. It can be done. Don't sweat the haters. You know what you have in the new Raptor... ENJOY!!!

    Our VINs are probably near matches (very early 2018 production), except I do not go in for decals and got the short wheel base version. A have yet to receive a negative comment. Lots of thumbs up and wows. I get great mileage just puttering around empty, but pull a trailer or get sporty and it sucks gas big time, just like my previous 2013 Platinum with the ecoboost. V8 sound? The quieter the better so far as I am concerned.

    In my girlfriends 2017 Escape I can turn on the heated steering wheel and remote seat heating with remote start. There's also a feature called easy entry/exit in the setting menu that pushes the seat back when you turn off the ignition.

    Don't sweat the haters. Your truck and Raptors in general are awesome. I greatly prefer the 3.5 to the V8. I'll never understand why someone would sacrifice performance(3.5) for sound(v8).

    • @sachiyth
      @sachiyth 6 років тому

      I agree with you. I have a F150 3.5 2nd gen engine. I feel like my truck out perform the V8. What I learn is if you have hates and negative comments, that means you are doing something right.

    • @natpeterson9735
      @natpeterson9735 6 років тому

      Scomelbasses Because if the truck LOOKS badass, don’t you think it should SOUND badass, as well? I tried my hardest to let this EcoBoost grow on me and learn to ignore the exhaust note, but, after hearing it in person several times, I can confidently say that I am not a fan of it whatsoever. Don’t get me wrong, I admire the engine for what it is and what it is capable of, and I respect the vast amount of the engineering and technology that went into it.
      However, it just isn’t right that they made it the only engine choice for this truck. I understand that they did it to boost their EcoBoost market (no pun intended), but I guarantee you that the sales of this truck will skyrocket if there is a V8 option - but, not just the standard 5.0L, and not even the 6.2L from the previous generation Raptor. I’m talking about the 5.0L V8 with Roush’s 2.3L TVS Supercharger.
      With this bad boy, you not only get the heavenly combined sound of a five-oh exhaust note out the back with a supercharger wine from the front, but added performance, as well. No need to worry about sacrificing any numbers with this V8 as it puts out 600 hp and 557 lb-ft of torque. THAT is what this truck so desperately needs. It fits its personality perfectly.
      The F-150 Raptor is a truck that should satisfy your eyes, AND your ears. With the Roushcharged five-oh, we enthusiasts get the total package.
      At least let there be this option.

    • @Scomelbasses
      @Scomelbasses 6 років тому +1

      For me personally, I'd be OK if the engine made NO sound. I prefer quiet power. I think they should offer more engine choices for the Raptor. I'm the type of driver that if I owned a Raptor I would never take it off road or tow anything because I'm just not interested in that or have no need to tow. I just like trucks, especially when they look like the current Raptor.

    After driving an ecoboost F150 you can't give me coyote v8 truck. The only thing a coyote can do for me is sound great with an aftermarket exhaust and the newer ones have oil blow by issues. Sadly I don't have raptor money. With that said, I do have 4wd 2018 STX supercrew money. Trucks and turbos go together like peanut butter and jelly. I love mine

    Thanks for the video and your insight. Thinking of a 2018 Raptor, but only thing that puts me off is the $15-$20k mark up all Ford dealers here in California are putting on the trucks. So a $70k MSRP truck becomes $90k!! Did you face any similar issues in NH?

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому

      John Pearl I bought it in West Virginia. I refused to pay over sticker for it most dealers here wanted 5-10 thousand over. I eventually found a dealer willing to sell it for sticker. He was unable to locate any, but offered to order one. I told him I’d think on it. A couple weeks later he got this one in and I bought it as it was being delivered to the dealer. It has a few thousand dollars more in options than one I would have ordered so I kinda consider that a markup in itself. They did give me a good deal on my trade in. Gave me a few thousand more than any other dealer was willing to.

    • @pearlyboy69
      @pearlyboy69 6 років тому

      HeyTheirStranger thanks, appreciate it. I too will refuse to pay anything over sticker! Problem is, everyone here is willing to do so, so dealers are happy to mark up as they have no issue selling them. Very sad really...

    I’m thinking about it in white no decals. I like the engine and design. The orange accents have a better steering wheel leather. Ford spray with carbon fiber and carbon fiber exhaust tips is my preference. How does it feel on the highway? Nice driveway and wood. And to address your stuff.. ford really doesn’t have the ability to provide a quality experience. It is sad really that us auto makers can’t produce true quality.

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому +1

      Bertram Inc. It’s about the best highway vehicle you could pick. Amazing power, great stereo, quiet, comfortable, and tons of cargo space. It’s a little annoying in the city with narrow streets, tight parking spaces and parking garages. That’s every full sized pick up though.

    • @bertraminc9412
      @bertraminc9412 6 років тому

      Can you do me a favor and evaluate the underside rust on your truck please? I'm seeing rust on new Raptors at the dealers on the rear transfer case, the area at the junction of the front wheels and the drive axles just inside the front wheels, the drive shaft and other areas under the truck. Thanks!

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому

      Bertram Inc. It looks fine still. Don’t know why you’d really be so concerned about rust on the drive line. These components rust easily on every vehicle. Doesn’t really mean much.

    • @bertraminc9412
      @bertraminc9412 6 років тому

      HeyTheirStranger thanks for checking but I don’t share your opinion on rust on vehicles. There are Porsche cars that have been on the roads for decades without rusting yet I’m finding new raptors at the dealers with rusted components on the lot. I can’t pay 72k for any vehicle that is already rusted. I just won’t do it. Transfer cases, drive shafts, main frames. I’ve seen many like this. My BMW is 17 years old and nothing is rusted underneath so I don’t share that opinion. I love the Raptor. I just can’t convince myself to spend that much money on such cost cutting engineering.

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому

      Bertram Inc. all metal oxidizes it’s a fact. You can paint it and treat it in certain ways which is important for sheet metal since it loses all structure and flakes away into nothingness. The oxidation actually protects the metal most of the time. Something like a driveshaft or differential cover that isn’t seen unless crawling under a vehicle really doesn’t have any need for a show quality paint job that will last decades. Also comparing to a Porsche is kinda pointless. Trucks are made to function. These parts are designed to hit rocks and be submerged in mud.

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому

      Matt The thing that really bugs me about the haters is the whole “They changed it so it sucks attitude” If you don’t like something fine. If it’s just your personal opinion that’s fine too, but to say something is worse just because it is. Why? Yet people do this while saying that the supercharged Chevy vortec truck that doesn’t exist that they don’t own is clearly superior. They’re somehow dumb enough to present their fan fiction as proof. Anyway sorry for the rant, but thank you for the positive comment.

    • @SrsBsn56
      @SrsBsn56 6 років тому

      Alot of people dont think about the basics. Ford, or any other vehicle manufacturer, is not going to make something worse as time moves forward. Most people are set on "my engine is huge and make a sh*% ton of HP". Well, in my opinion, those times are coming to a end of the huge block engines. Without checking all the specs perfectly, this new engine has over 40 more HP and 65 more torque from the 6.2 L V8. 0-60 in 5.1 seconds...for a truck. I think you run into people who don't have a educated opinion or just grew up in a chevy household. Thank goodness the government saved GM. Im really thinking about getting one in a year. I just want to buy it and not finance it so Im going to wait a little longer.

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому

      Matt I’m a big fan of V8s and have owned many. I don’t know if they’ll disappear but they’re becoming niche. Used to be for decades 4 cylinders = complete non performance for economy only. 6 cylinder = the cheaper lesser version of a vehicle. Most things like trucks and sports cars could be had with V8 or V6 and people always wanted the V8 because there was very little downside. People still have it stuck in there heads that cars from the 60s are the fastest ones ever made so I expect the notion that anything with less cylinders is inferior to stick around for a long time. Today while V8s are still cool and great performance engines you don’t see many people daily driving them. I think it was a bold move for ford to move away from V8s and switch to aluminum construction. Things have to evolve and get better. Can’t just keep making the same thing for years and years.

    • @SrsBsn56

    Not even ford were as generous as you when you said you do around 16 mpg, ecoboost aren’t that economical , for work we have a 3.5 ecoboost and it does poor mpg my 2014 ford raptor does 13 mpg average and the new raptor is around the same.

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому

      Johnny Garcia I’m surprised to hear that you don’t think it’s economical. My non Raptor eco boost was able to do 18 mpg pretty easy it could do 20 mpg highway but I very rarely averaged that. I felt this was a massive increase over older V8 trucks like my 5.4 that struggle to get 12 mpg it was about a 50% improvement. I imagine as it’s a work vehicle it probably idles a lot or tows. The eco boost mpg does fall off a lot when it tows.

    • @johnnygarcia7269
      @johnnygarcia7269 6 років тому

      HeyTheirStranger that’s the thing, our ecoboost carries a lot of weight and I’ve compared both trucks at towing and raptor does atleast 2 mpg above the ecoboost while towing, don’t get me wrong I love the ecoboost, it drives great but I love the sound of my 6.2 , I did a muffler delete and that thing roars

    • @KingKwon
      @KingKwon 6 років тому

      16mpg is completely realistic in the '17/'18. My '14 Raptor only averaged 12mpg with normal daily driving. Same driving style yields 16mpg on my '17. 4mpg difference. That's huge...even though the cost of higher octane gas negates the cost difference. lol. Not bad still with the increase in power.

  • @jackbrink9898

    Just picked up a 2012 and I've only gotten positive comments. From EVERYONE. People love the 6.2 V8, including me. You don't buy this truck for gas mileage.

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому

      Jack Brink I know people love the 6.2. I still like the first gen Raptor my point is that I think the second gen is an improvement and many people seem to find it a step back. My issue with it isn’t just the gas mileage. I didn’t really explain my thoughts on milage very well. It’s more that the engine is probably better suited in base a F-250 were it’ll work under heavy load a lot and not so much for a sport truck that you want to be street able as well. They improved performance in ever way with the new generation.

    • @jackbrink9898
      @jackbrink9898 6 років тому

      HeyTheirStranger id say the second gen is an improvement in on road performance but for hard off-road use the N/A 6.2 is the better, simpler engine and you can supercharge or hellion twin turbo the 6.2 and make 590 to the wheels and still have 15-25k in your pocket for suspension mods before u even scrape the lowest msrp for a 2018

    • @jackbrink9898
      @jackbrink9898 6 років тому

      Don't get me wrong I still think the 2018 is awesome I would just rather mod my 2012 and have extra gas $. Btw If I were you I would tint your front windows to match the rears, improves the look of the truck alot!

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому

      Jack Brink yeah I might tint them great suggestion. I’m so used to living in a state where it’s completely illegal. I just moved so I’ll have to find out the laws. Also I do really agree with you about the 6.2 as far as mods go. What was that Hennessy velociraptor making like 600+? You’d pretty much have the fastest truck on the planet for not much hassle. I’ve seen some people modding the 3.5 pretty hard but fords already squeezed most of the juice out of the thing IMO.

    Sounds like you are trying to convince yourself that you made a good choice. Everyone LOVES this truck v8 or not, the sales proves that. Btw you complaining like a girl, do you understand that legally you can't have that truck any wider than it already is. So therefore the mirrors can't be bigger bcuz it will change the dimensions of the truck.

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому

      MrTxblksteel the legal limit on width is 102”????

    • @MrTxblksteel
      @MrTxblksteel 6 років тому

      HeyTheirStranger your right I thought the raptor was wider than 86 inches. my bad. Still makes no sense to have tow mirrors on a dessert runner. I haven't driven the new model but I can only assume its isnt much of a visibility change plus there not that many trailers that big for tow mirrors less than 6k lbs.. But I wont be an internet troll any talk shit just for the hell of it, I was wrong and apologize. Just enjoy the truck for us that can't.

    • @HeyTheirStranger
      @HeyTheirStranger  6 років тому

      MrTxblksteel No it’s cool. I can understand how it seems kinda dumb complaining about mirrors on a truck that’s not really designed with towing as a priority. The point I was trying to make was that I only ever hear people fanboying and saying it’s perfect or hating and saying it just sucks because it sucks. If you’re going to criticize something at least have a reason. That was a point I didn’t get across with the video. There are some (very few) things I think could be improved but to me this truck really stands above everything else on the market which is why I bought it. I did just use it to tow a trailer over 1000 miles and was shocked at how well it did. I’ll probably make a video and talk about the towing more because I couldn’t find much info before I bought it.
