I feel you Matty. There's a value in the simplicity of owning things outright that just doesn't show up in the financial math.
Yep...
GadgetsNGear And not to mention the amount of risk in carring a ton of debt in assets that generally go down in value, doesnt show up on a normal calculation
This took me way too long to figure out. I was always that guy who could pay cash but the math told me I was better off investing. I made a mental switch and paid off one of our cars and it just felt great. Soon after paid off all three cars we had. I don't care about the small amount of interest, feels great having no car payment
"Sorry I'm smiling a bit." ain't no need to apologize for being happy man. :) I do like how you previously mentioned about the color swap, from a blue car and white truck, to a blue truck and white car.
I need blue in my life.
It’s the best feeling owning your vehicle outright.
Amen... I love my new sierra but something about my colorado being paid off just makes me all warm and fuzzy on the inside.
Jeremy Esters buying cash is not always the best option. If you can get a very low APR financing is the best option.
I can think of many things that feel better than not having a car payment...
Jeremy Esters Damn straight. Nothing better!
Until you get a DUI in it...
You don't have to apologize for smiling in a video man.
Anton Petersson especially after buying that beauty
ive never went to buy a car and left with them owing me cash lol good stuff
Congrats on the new raptor. Excited to follow your journey with the truck. I fully agree with you on simplifying your garage down to a few cars.
The gittines on your face as you drove oit the lot PROVES success bro! Man I congratulate you! Your persona and content to the channel helps me alot in order to get through the day man. Enjoy that Raptor and dial it in! #salutefromOhio ✊
I watch a lot, and I mean A LOT of OG videos and this is one of my favorite given that he is talking about finance and cars in one sweeping motion, not sur why, but this was a spectacular video!
Love the color of the new truck. Always enjoy your videos Matt.
Appreciate you being so open on numbers in buying and selling stuff. Helps put things in perspective!
It’s crazy how I understand everything that you’re saying. I’m almost done with ACC 323, Financial Accounting 2, and this is extremely relevant to what I just learned.
Transparency at its best. Thanks for this one Matt.
Man, I obviousely enjoy watching you ball hard! But I also admire your level-headedness and your ability to just give yourself a break and do your thing. My goal is a Raptor and a BMW M series. Cheers, man.
Can't wait for the wash video 👍🏽
Love your videos man, keep it up :D
Waiting for the first wash one!
I like the thought of simplicity... Thanks
Congrats Matt!
Love the Raptor :3
Thats gonna look nice hauling the new Porsche when you take it up to the mountains. Never really taken a liking for Ford but this new Raptor is something else. That Blue is fantastic!
Congratulations Matt on your New Raptor.
Even though I really wish you kept the gt350 , I totally agree with your decisions about the whole process and would have done the same. You’ve got the best of the best man...no need for anything else. Enjoy tinkering and enjoying the hell out of those without being muddled up with everything else to the point it feels like a “chore”.
Thanks man.
So glad you got the Raptor and will be doing some videos on the experience !
I have been holding back on buying one and watched other videos. You might be the one that I base my decision to buy or not to buy. I understand with the high performance engine you will use more gas for sure and that is my hang up right now.
Can't wait for you to post some videos on your pros and cons on your new Raptor !
I was just at the Raptor Assault in Salt Lake this weekend. The vast majority of owners are 40+. I found it rather odd that most of the guys over 50 were most concerned with the ability to put 87 octane in their $70,000 truck. I probably hacked a few of them off saying that seemed ridiculous to cheap out on the most important thing you need for it to operate properly.
Nothing wrong with simplifying your life. Love the truck, makes me want a Raptor.
Looking forward to seeing the paint correction and ceramic coating episode.. Sweet Raptor Matt.. Love that Blue Color
love your new truck . just bought myself a f150 xlt in bluejeans metallic love it.
Matt, glad to see you kept the old Raptor. I can't wait to see some comparison videos. You mentioned upgrading the suspension, If you do you should really look into King coil overs, bypass shocks and hydraulic bump stops. Maybe some light bars and some tuning? Congrats on the new addition!
One of my favorite videos.
I should have watched this video before asking the question on your last video. Good explanation.
Did that speck drive anyone else nuts? Lol
Jason Prometheus Yes!!!! Every 5 seconds I looked at it😂😂😂
I tried scratching it off my screen for a good 5 seconds.
Didn't notice it until I scrolled through the comments.. Damn it haha
Jason Prometheus I almost scratched my screen protector! Lol
Unobsessed Garage lmao
Love the new raptor!!!! Awesome
Love your videos Matt. Keep them coming.
Thanks man.
Looks like it rides so smooth no jittery ride or bouncing.
I just noticed you have that front view GoPro mounted outside on the engine hood. That's interesting, something I wouldn't have thought to do.
Great rig! I'm excited for the tints and gas cap mod lol
Ha, ha...
Hey Matt. I hope your taking a much needed break. Whew, what a few weeks you had. The content on the Porsche, Sema, and everything else in between was really amazing, informative, and candid. I'm sure you have been filming and once you get a chance hurry up and drop some content ; ).. Later..
I think you can write off the Raptors on the section 179 since they are over 6000 GVWR. My dad did it on his SUVs for his business.
NihselAuto It has to have at least a 6.5' bed. The 5.5' on the raptor disqualifies it.
But it did say, "although some extended cab pickups may have beds that are too small, for example the Raptor in this case, to qualify." Doesn't hurt to ask the tax guys or the CPA. All I know is on the SUV sides like the Tahoes, Expeditions, or Escalades, are covered. I would check the list of Trucks and SUVs that are covered on the deduction to help give a better understanding.
Love watching your videos and listening to you talk about financials. I try to live a Dave Ramsey lifestyle and have my vehicles paid for as well. Being self employed it feels way better only having a mortgage bill that comes once a month instead of a bunch of car payments as well.
You stress so much my dude about it all, I can completely relate.
"Not buying any more cars for awhile" hahaha so much for that!
The dude in the focus stared at you the whole trip.. haha
Congrats!!
man, now you got me thinking. Was going to lease a truck but may end up financing now. nice truck btw.
yo matt just received my 4 finger wash mitt, gosh this is really nice!, thank you :-)
Awesome. I love that thing.
If you do get exhaust for the Raptor, look at Corsa....to me it sounds the best plus no drone.
Very good information 🤘🏼
Superb vehicle and very good points.
Thanks.
Matt you're driving an s2k on wheels and tires that were meant for a car with 240hp. 200-210 give or take to the wheels. You've doubled that power, don't expect it to feel as nice as it did when it was stock. You got to upgrade the rim tire set up and tweak the suspension a little bit. Plus if I were you I'd invest in some swift springs for your coils to make it ride smoother.
NEED the RS delivery video!!
Nice truck. I’d keep the exhaust stock also. I heard a new raptor with an aftermarket exhaust and I thought it sounded awful.
Nitto Trail Grapplers are definitely the best looking off-road tire out there.
Nice job Matt, I just met with my finance guy yesterday. He's a great and smart guy, but he's not a car guy lol. I couldn't stop thinking about that....my wife couldn't care less. But after 2 master degree's, student loans, a mortgage and daycare costs, he told me I couldn't afford 2nd car and laughed at the idea. He's right....i'm bummed.
Nice truck matt!
I love it
Expel, or some type of clear vinyl on the doors and lower rear fender would be a good idea, especially with the methods offset, it will throw rocks onto the paint.
very interesting that you prefer to own things cash. my uncle is also a financial adviser, and is also really into cars and detailing, has the same opinion as you.
Cool dad with new truck video.
Enjoy your blessings to the fullest
Really nice truck, now on to the mods lol
"Don't want to make it so hardcore that I end up hating it" - sounds like you learned a lesson from the S2000 build.
Oh...I've learned this lesson over and over again, but I almost always end up heading down that path anyway.
Love me some lightning blue!
After building a custom exhaust, and getting to look at the factory mufflers, I would leave the exhaust stock. The muffler and resonator are straight through designs and look like they flow very well. If I could do it again, I would leave the factory cat back, and do downpipes. The factory cats are quite large. Cold air intakes don’t look to add much either, the factory airbox design is plenty. Just get a drop in filter. Sct has just released tunes for the 18s, I just ordered a bullydog bdx(owned by sct, very similar) a tuner will be your biggest bang for your buck. Ford performance will be releasing a tune very soon, so you can retain your warranty.
Good luck with the truck!
A Ford Raptor, a GT3 RS, and an E92 M3 sounds like the perfect combination! :)
I like where you're going in this video. However, in my mind, selling the S2000 would be a mistake. Even if you might feel that way now. Its not "that much" money (of course different from person to person) - But since you have liked/probably always will have a sweet spot for the S2000. Having one, possibly one of the cleaner cars in the US, if not the world - I would strongly suggest holding on to it. They arent making any more of them, they are not getting easier to find. If I were to get a hold of one as immaculate as yours, it would be a forever car. Even if I wouldnt drive it, such a clean example needs to be kept in good hands. Just my 0.2
More power to you Matt. Simplify. Simplify.
Bingo
Great choice sr, been enjoying my 2017 for almost a year. Can’t wait to see you do your detailing so I can get pointers lol. Bout the only thing I don’t like is the auto stop-start system. I get a little annoyed by it for some reason. Other than that it’s a dream vehicle.
Yeah, stop/start is goofy.
hope you do a good series like you did on the GT350 on this
I think you said 5grand a year for your insurance, that's excellent for what you owned. I sure hope I can make it through march 2018 without a claim which will be 3 years ,so I can get my rate down. Nice raptor, love the LED's on these ford trucks.
You should have got the sunroof and carbon, it makes the the interior look soooo much better!
I know you aren't big into getting vehicles dirty but I do recall you taking the first raptor off road near your house.... you should go to raptor run in Texas. Big community of raptor owners and you can really drive your truck and jump it!
Glad you like your new truck I don’t mind the looks I just refuse to buy a truck with a v6 whether it has power adders or not. I just like my lazy v8 full-size trucks or small 4cylinder trucks, I just feel a v6 is an unnecessary engine. But I love the video keep up the great content.
Did you get the raptor for sticker or mark up?
I was just wondering the other day if you still connected with Brian Orr. Good to hear his voice on the video, miss him on the podcast but really enjoying your connection with Sean.
Pretty sure there are no leasing options for the Raptor?
It's good to own nice stuff, but when the nice stuff starts owning you, it's time to let some of it go to get back in balance. Love the new truck. The color is one of my favorites for the Raptor. Congrats.
Well said.
You should try and get the new GT3 with a manual, when the time is right.
Matt please don't sell the s2k, please make a video installing the ce28 's that's going to be nice!
Matt, thanks for your transparency regarding financing your cars and project. One must be wise when making large purchases and making good business decisions. Debt that can't be managed can be problematic for ones business & family. I'm very impressed with your many skills. You maybe realizing that the accumulation of material things are not always satisfying. Make sure you balance family and business. You are blessed!
Thanks brother. I like to be as real as possible. I know there are many younger folks or maybe people that aren't quite as astute that can benefit from me sharing the process.
Matt, I am not sure if the 2018 Raptor has the fake engine noise, the lesser Ecoboost do. You can disable it using the free Forscan software, same with the auto start/stop and the double horn honk when you get out the running truck with the key in your pocket... I’ve added the auto-fold mirrors function, secure idle, temp read outs above the gauges in the dash and a few other functions that Ford have but are not enabled on the F150..
I need to get one.
Great!!!!!!!!!
I wash what I drive. If It sits it tends not to get dirty. If you justify a use for every car you own it makes sense. Told you, you would love the F150 Supercrew.
Totally get it, at one time I had a Corvette, Grand Cherokee SRT8 and an FJ Cruiser as a daily. Sold the Jeep and FJ bought a Raptor and kept the Corvette. Made everything less complicated. Now I'm thinking of trading my '12 Raptor for a new one but still love my '12 and it only has 34k miles.
Mike D damn if you sell that 12 I hope your near Washington state! Lol
Be glad you waited for the 18. The BO stereo is so much better than the sony in the 17
I think the sound of the ecoboost will grow on you. My dad has a 2012 and in the winter she sounds like a mini version of my 6.0 diesel. Turbo whistle is pretty sick even stock at least on ours.
I guess I'm the only one left that refuses to call a twin turbo engine an Ecoboost. That name just sounds stupid. I think the sound is going to be fine as long as I don't mess with it much.
Ya interesting you say that, his truck only averages about 15 mpg mostly highway where as I'm getting like 13 in my diesel with a 4 inch lift and 355s. Kind of a scam really. Too many factors at play with twin turbos to expect consistent MPG I suppose.
"I never thought I would become a pickup truck guy". It happens to the best of us Matt
Ha, ha... Yep, I'm there.
Tire wise, I recommend BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2. I have them on my Tacoma and have zero complaints. They have worn well, and have little road noise.
The new raptors have them already installed. I just installed those on my H2, loved so far compared to the KOs I had.
I'm wondering about that. I have Nittos on my '13 Raptor, and they have been great. I'm going to do 325/65-18 shortly.
Matt, you already have them on your new Raptor if you check your wheels, giving you the heads up. :)
I know. I'm wonder if I'll like K02.
@2:40 “sorry I’m smiling a little bit.”
Haha it’s ok dude, you just bought the baddest truck made, you can smile!
Which color blue is this, Matt? I'm looking at Velocity Blue. The lighter color. Sold my CS.... thinking about a Raptor now while I save for the GT3!
What did you think about the raptor
Your like me I wanted one for everyday of the week now I’m up to 12 trying to make it to we’re I have one for everyday of the month now
10:39 Grandma was checking you out Matt.
Matt, Im a girl that enjoys cars ,trucks(basically anything with wheels:) and although Fords aren't my cup of tea, Raptors and Mustangs are the only Fords I like. Im digging your Raptor :) Looking forward to your journey with it!
Yeah, I think good car/truck is good no matter what the brand.
I really enjoyed this video Matt. I thought weighing the pros and cons of each option was insight and I enjoyed hearing your thought process behind each option...and why you chose the option you did. Keep up the great videos brother!!!!
How much if we
Lease one ??
What was the residual on the lease of this Raptor? If you can remember off hand
It was pretty bad.
@obssessed garage, due to how complex these raptors are, do you find them reliable? I know you don't have experience with this new one yet but what about your first gen one? I'm curious as I'm seriously contemplating one but the complexity of the 4wd system makes me a little anxious if something does go wrong, it'd be pretty high maintenance to fix. Thoughts?
I've found them to be super reliable.
sitting upright is extremely underrated lol
Matt. How about testing a leather coating or two? I’m in the market for a couple of new rides and am very curious about coatings. How about Gyeon’s coat? Thanks and NICE Raptor!
I don't see a need for leather coatings. I just skip eating cheeseburgers in the car, and I'll all good.
It is recommended that you use 87 Octane in the Raptor per owners manual.
I run 93 in mine.
The go pro suction cups don't hurt the paint?
They don't as long as it's clean.
Yes number1
but when youre left with just the RS and the raptor, will you be getting a gt4?
Not anytime soon.
