Wow Wirt, top tier editing and storytelling in this one. You’re so gifted at setting up and framing those “epic” moments in every video. My jaw dropped while watching that Trinity TAS
I still like the idea of slowing down time in the game just to practice, my band teacher said to start slow and get all the notes right then slowly ramp up to full speed. Even outside of insane skips I could see it being used just for practicing specific input combinations.
In sim racing we say "slow and steady wins the race". You don't get better by going flat out and smashing into every wall and hoping to eventually get it right.
It definitely does make a difference get used to the track first and build your confidence up to go faster. Some tracks I struggle more than others especially at high speed.

What I find most interesting is he came so darn close to discovering the nose boost so much earlier than it had been. You can see he's above 450 speed and his 4 nose bugs left him above 450, possibly able to go higher.
Wow oh my god. So at 1:30 when the car is navigating those turns, it cuts the most beautiful racing line through the corners I've ever seen. I wonder if similar tools adjusted for more realism (slower speed, more mass, etc) would be useful for generating real-world pace notes for rallies and stuff like that. This is awesome.
I think F1 teams run simulations to find perfect lines and car settings for given track conditions. These simulations are orders of magnitude more complex than TM tools though, because they have to account all sorts of things like wind, air pressure, temperature and moisture, track temperature etc
I love how he is talking about the curiousity to see how far could we go since we just discovered noseboost that can destroy older TAS I hope there will be enough new records to have a new video talking about TAS revolution
Man, not only are you such a gifted creator that captivates audiences regardless of experience with Trackmania, who matches that with hard work to create some of the most in depth and intriguing content, but damn do you have good music taste too..
The thing I learned when I was active in the speedrun community was that unless something is literally impossible for a human to input (rapid fire hopping in mario kart wii for example), then nothing will stop someone from trying. I've seen many many things that were at one point deemed "TAS only" because no one actually tried to do it long enough. most things are able to be done by a human, it just takes one person to go "hey look I did it!"
@@issadraco532 games weren't exactly meant to be played in one particular fashion. Sure, the majority of people who play Mario Kart play it casually, but that doesn't mean everyone has to. People could play games exactly how they want, and if they wanna waste dozens of hours for a single digit to go down, then so be it. The reason why people speedrun is simply to test the limits of the game in a competitive and entertaining-to-watch fashion. Sure, it may take dozens of hours, but that just goes to show how special it is to them. And sure it may be a time waste. But it's also entertaining as hell to watch, and I think that's exactly what games were made for: to be entertaining.

Yeah at the moment it seems the human puts in the movement like they think is best. The next step would be to have an AI try all different combinations until it finds even faster ways the runners didn't even think about. It's always fascinating what's skills people leverage into speedrunning.
Thanks Wirtual for making these amazing videos about what has always been my favorite game since I'm a child. You're the only person I've ever supported using Patreon and I will definitely will keep doing so.
I don't know how much work has gone into making this type of run but I would like to see a comparison of top human runs vs tas runs without inhuman bugs to see exactly how close the top runners are to the 'perfect' 'glitchless' runs.
The TAS gains time everywhere, but not much time. I think A07 (also covered on this channel) has a 0.04 difference between TAS and RTA, 26:16 vs 26:20 that is.
I don't even play this game but I love these videos so much. I have thought about why that is and I think your narration and insightful analysis on top of the fact that you inherently have access to these historical runs makes for a genius channel idea. Kudos to you Wirtual.
ok wow i totally remember this game, and thought like no one ever played it, let alone years ago. yet its 2022 and people are still killing it! this is so awesome
I can say I hardly care about this game, but every once in a while, your videos show up in my feed, and I watch the whole thing. The way you narrate is very well done, to the point where something that doesn't really interest me, is interesting! Excellent work
May I just drop by to say something? Your channel recently got recommended to me and I love your style of producing the content you make, slowly working my way back into watching all of your videos from the past. I had been familiar with TM Nations, back in 2009 or maybe even 2008, when my (then best) friend really was into playing the solo campaign and also making tracks himself. Because of the fun I had watching your videos (and still being able to recognize a lot of the tracks), I decided to give another go at it. Tonight I downloaded the game from Steam (I was surprised to see that it's still free, awesome) and played through half of it. My driving skills, after all these years... They still suck 😂 But no, in all seriousness, I'd like to thank you for reminding me of some forgotten cool moments from a later part of my childhood, a transitioning phase from just a little kid into a little teen. Nowadays I'm neither anymore, I just turned 26 last June. Thanks for making me savor these little moments in my life just a little bit more. Wishing you all the best from The Netherlands.
Given the wonky physics engine of Trackmania, I'm surprised that it took this long for TAS to become a thing. I look forward to seeing Mario 64 levels of physics exploits where tracks will eventually be completed using primarily nosebug chains and uberbugs for movement.
Imagine the head start riolu could have had as an amazingly good player when not cheating and having quite some experience with TAS, albeit for the wrong reasons.
Riolu and other top players in the cheating scandal did not use TAS. They slowed the game down and drove the times themselves. TASing in trackmania has only been possible since very recently and is far, far more convoluted than just slowing down the game.
As Jonas said, Riolu and others did not use TAS in any form, they straight up cheated for WR titles/clears and played the games with slowed down inputs etc. where TAS is completely different...
@@ChoJun69 I think we are confusing the terms here. Both could be considered a Tool Assisted Speedruns (cause they are speedruns that are assisted by external tools), but the cheated runs done with CheatEngine are bad, meanwhile purposely made TAS runs made with TMInterface by donadigo are good. Cheated runs competed against legit players, which destroys competitiveness and leaderboards. True TAS runs like these aren't competing with legitimate players, they are done so we can achive the best theoretical time, to see what's possible.

0:58 this is both a hate crime and a love letter to TMNF fans. I got flashbacks of playing these tracks all these years ago. INSANE.
Why is the Uberbug so Funny, its like someone just hit me with a *Comically Large Spoon*
I thought it was Yububug because of the way he pronounces it
@@wilh3lmmusic omfg😂
i have a slight idea where *comically large spoon* originated from
I have never played nor will ever play Trackmania. But I'm here, subbed to Wirtual cuz his story-telling skills are just that amazing.
6:20 top 10 questions science still can't answer
WR: "Drives fantastically."
TAS: "Where are you going?! The goal is in *_this_* direction."
props to Donadigo for making so many amazing tools
Even as someone who plays trackmania these runs never cease to amaze me
TAS strats are always amazing, especially in broken games. Cool to see another game ready to be cracked wide open.
Once uni starts again, I’ll create a Wirtual playlist for studying. His voice is so soothing and calming :3
7:18 i feel like if any of these skips can be pulled off, this is the one, and i can't wait to see it done
I can't wait for the compiled replays of hundreds of attempts as an exploding cloud of cars and then one of them beelines to the finish
I'm on the hospital rn because I have Covid, only Wirtual to make my day with a new shiny video ♥
Shit bro hope your good
wish you a speedy recovery
Hope you get better g!
Your comment made my day
Hope you have a speedy recovery!
Can’t wait for part two when new tas-only discoveries are found
TAS only show how breakable this game is, so funny to see some of these runs
Definitely keep us posted on the new tas records. These are so fun to watch
I can say I hardly care about this game, but every once in a while, your videos show up in my feed, and I watch the whole thing. The way you narrate is very well done, to the point where something that doesn't really interest me, is interesting! Excellent work
PabloGD: *I AM the Tool Assisted Speed-Run.*
After seeing these, I’m hoping to see the whole game optimized and see TM in the tas block at a speed run convention.
They still suck 😂
But no, in all seriousness, I'd like to thank you for reminding me of some forgotten cool moments from a later part of my childhood, a transitioning phase from just a little kid into a little teen. Nowadays I'm neither anymore, I just turned 26 last June. Thanks for making me savor these little moments in my life just a little bit more. Wishing you all the best from The Netherlands.
These TAS "bug" style movements take ASDFmovie's line "pff, screw gravity!" to a whole new level
I don't know why I really enjoyed this video so much, I've basically only played Trackmania during health ed at school.
what surprised me was that these shortcuts only saved like 3 seconds, like i know thats a lot for speedruns but still.
Given the wonky physics engine of Trackmania, I'm surprised that it took this long for TAS to become a thing. I look forward to seeing Mario 64 levels of physics exploits where tracks will eventually be completed using primarily nosebug chains and uberbugs for movement.
*_WAWAWAWAWAHOO-ing intensifies_*
But first we need to talk about parallel universes.
Imagine the head start riolu could have had as an amazingly good player when not cheating and having quite some experience with TAS, albeit for the wrong reasons.
This. Some top players have been using TAS methods(on the real leaderboard) before, imagine what they could achieve.
These speed runs are just stunning to watch
I have played trackmania once, when it was on PS+, but you are such a good storyteller i'm just binging your videos
This is human evolution in a nutshell. This feels like the future. What a time to be alive.
"Trackmania is an optimised game"
Well I thought
you though *wrong*
If you think you understand Quantumphysics, you dont understand Quantumphysics.
If you think Trackmania is optimised, it is not optimised.
This is way overdue. I hope to be able to do a TAS for the game I Speedrun one day.
These shortcuts are soooo sick, would love to see another video about what's been done after half a year of TASing.
Dude I have never heard of this game nor do I even want to play it but these are so entertaining and I can't stop watching em
Omg poor Pablo. He has to do far more optimization now...
*silent pablogod grinding optimization noises*
So happy to be alive to witness this. It's just beautiful.
5:38 gave me a fucking heart attack😂
me and my father played this game a lot when I was very little. It warms my heart to see it still relevant
Your videos are so good I can watch them over and over again, I checked and I even already liked the video, and I'd like it again if I could.
I want to see this on A07 race to see how close Pablo was to perfection
I was looking for a comment like this. It would be crazy to see how close he has truly come, and maybe he would try to get the new record and even try to beat it.
Just look for it. :) ua-cam.com/video/KSNmgDxR8Gw/v-deo.html
Teacher: the test isnt that hard
the test: 6:08
WTH
human: this run is perfection.
Robot : hold my beer.
Found you one day scrolling on my UA-cam recommendation and usually don’t like games like these but after watching your vid about you changing your name to mafu or something an tolled the leaderboard after coming in 2nd I subbed lol no regrets bro
After seeing this game for so many years, these runs are mind blowing to see.
