@@E12345E Yes and he spends 2 seconds in each of the first two nether portals he makes, teleporting between them so he can get the wool and the glass block while waiting to get into the nether. Taking advantage of the fact that a nether portal only checks that you have been in A nether portal for the last 4 seconds, not whether you have been in THAT nether portal for the last 4 seconds. 13:06 note 7.5? normally, you can't open your inventory or use a crafting table or other object with a HUD while in the nether portal, but for some reason, the HUD from an object (not the inventory key) will show up for exactly 1 tick. luckily, inventories are no longer tied to the tickrate (since 1.14), so dylan can do all of this in that one tick. note 7.5.5(?): because the 4 second portal entering animation resets when reloading a world, duping in a nether portal doesn't save any time.
I find funny that the end portal is a 0 eye, it's only like a 30% chance that the end portal is a 0 eye. The most common ones are a 1 eye portals (each end frame has a 1/10 chance of spawn with an eye on it)
@@Sceptonic if we try we'll probably find it, but a 12 eye portal seems unreasonable (and it shockes me that a 12 eye portal and ignoring neather fortress isn't faster). But the time saved per eye is 1/20th of a second, unless they find a 4 or more eye portal, that would mean 1 less duplication (I think, maybe they need to multiply another thing) EDIT: killing blazes is needed because of the end crystal craft, so you can't skip killing blazes
@@ikercalderon163 You need an Eye of Ender for the End Crystal and skipping the dragon is much more crucial to this run. A filled portal would probably save less than a second.
@@Bismuth9 I forgot that eye of ender! A 5 eye portal might save like half a second at best? 1 less blaze duplication and 0.25 seconds less to fill the portal. But probably there aren't seeds as good as this one with a 5 eye portal and structure differences would lose more time for sure
@@ikercalderon163 does the duplication take time though? They all happen when pearls are in flight so he would just sit there twiddling his thumbs if he wasn't duping. So he would probably only be saving 12/20 of a second assuming Dylan was placing the eyes every available tick

Minecraft has been my special interest since I was 8 (so like 10 years now, wow !) and the fact you talk about how Minecraft works so those who don't play it can understand and also not sound judgmental is very soothing to me (I think it might be because usually if I don't understand something I get called stupid or made fun of like instantly). The ending with the music sync up is just brilliant. Thank you so much for this video.
He assured that I would understand everything that's going on by the end of this video. It's the end of this video and I understand everything that's going on. You're a great speedrun explainer, keep doing this Bismuth! 👍
I mean, there are no hard to grasp concepts he had to explain. The only thing that could be considered non intuitive was the inventory duplciate glitch, but even that is very easy to understand.
Beautifully produced my dude. I love watching you get better and better at creating these types of videos and manufacturing a compelling narrative. The rewatch at the end is SUCH a satisfying conclusion here - your confidence that we would indeed understand the speedrun now is incredible! Thank you for making this, and cheers to future projects!
This run is insane and the explanation in this video is insanely good. The most mezmerizing part was the ender pearl juggle with all those perfectly timed teleports.
When he showed the run the second time, there's just something about the ending and the music that makes me feel sort of a bittersweet ending feeling. It's weird and hard to explain. It's almost as if this was the run to end them all. The completely perfect and unbeatable record. I can just picture people spending countless hours trying to get this perfect run, and now someone finally does. But the final ender pearl throw almost signifies the end of an era which is minecraft speedrunning which gives me this bittersweet feeling. It's done. the ultimate run, achieved. I know this definitely isn't happening anytime soon, maybe not even at all, but I just get this weird feeling that I just thought I'd share. The music definitely adds to that feeling as well. Love the vid Bismuth
The conclusion with the clarity you have given us with this explanation through re-watching the run is the cherry on top. One of the best videos about speedruns i've watched, great work and thank you!!

You were right, the first time I didn't get it at all, but the second time I was actually able to keep track of everything, amazing video man keep up the great work!
Awesome video as always ! Also the fact that Dylan had to play it (if I understood correctly, the only tool he had was slowing the game time so he had to play the run right ?) is absolutly insane ! I wonder how many tries on this seed before getting this run ! Mindblowing
Yes but the tool also allowed him to savestate, essentially by creating backup saves that he could come back to, so he didn't do it in a single segment. But yes, he did have to "play" at really low tick rates, as opposed to using frame advance.
@@celivalg yeah indeed this is crazy how he can nail and find all those pearl throws with such a close timing and the insane amount of precision needed!
Seeing you go back to more regular speedrun/TAS explainers after the Mario 64 ABC epic really shows how that project has helped you to hone your craft, especially in terms of editing and production. Really great stuff this go around!
Watching this video felt like watching an entire season of Doctor Who, with all these intertwined, overlapping, and precisely-timed events. Amazing analysis, thank you very much for making this! :)
It's entirely off topic, but I just want to say how much I adore the piano covers of classic Runescape music. Gives me so much nostalgia it's unbelievable.
This felt like a plot of an anime antagonist character who has time skip ability and somehow the smart protagonist character found out how it was done to solve the mystery. Really coool I enjoyed the video 😮
What a brilliant explanation! I'm already too familiar with Minecraft and speedrunning, but I didn't find your in-depth explanations to be boring. Awesome video, and awesome run :)
Not many videos stick out to me, but this one is an exception, the unrushed calming systematic explanation covering such a one of a kind run just is something else, this is not my first time watching this video and wont be my last, thanks for making such a thought out video Bismuth!
The 4 second wait for the portal to activate reminds me of the part in the Skyrim speedrun where the longest part of the run is just waiting for esbern to unlock the door.
I forgot you were a former Minecraft set seed runner. I wish I had money, but I'll have to wait for the Minecraft covers to come out, they were really good as always!
Incredible video. Didn't expect Minecraft to be your next video, but I was pleasantly surprised. The rendition of Mice on Venus at the end almost made me tear up.
Here are the notes, you are welcome. Note 1 (5:30 to 6:50): a. The odds listed throughout this section are mostly ballpark estimates and shouldn't be taken as absolutely exact numbers. The ruined portal chest can also contain a fire charge instead of a flint and steel since it can serve the same purpose. The odds for the chest loot are on the order of 1 in 100 because of the Silk touch enchantment, which has odds of roughly 1 in 7 of appearing. b. About Blaze spawns: a blaze can spawn randomly anywhere in a Nether fortress, but it cannot spawn within 20 blocks of the player, so a spawner even closer than that is optimal. Although the spawner is 7 tiles away horizontally, it's about 10 tiles below as well, but it's still faster than a random spawn 20 tiles off. c. (also referenced at 17:50) About The End: the conditions in were actually sub-optimal. There's a wall in the way, so it takes a bit of additional maneuvering to reach the final portal to beat the game. While there will always be at least one pillar in the direct path towards the portal, it's not impossible that there could be an even more optimal seed with had a more direct path to the end that wouldn't require multiple enter pearl throws.
Note 2 (6:50): Due to the way world generation is done, the script could look at supergroups of 65,536 seeds called structure seeds. This reduced the total amount of possibilities from 2^64, or 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 down to 2^48, or 281,474,976,710,656. The only variable factors between different seeds within one structure seed is the biome distribution and the spawn location. Once the script found a good structure seed, it was only a matter of finding the right biome distribution and spawn location within that group. Note 3 (9:35): At least, it's no longer that dumb. For many years, the duplication glitch worked with Alt+F4. Note 4 (10:05): While he started with two pearls, he only duped them 4 times - the final dupe was only for obsidian and wood. Also, he throws a pearl when he has 16 (8 in inventory, 8 in chest), so he ends up with 30. Note 5 (12:09): In earlier versions, villages had windows made of glass blocks, and in later versions, glass was added deep underground. Note 6 (13:00): The direction blocks are sent in in the explosion is random, so despite having a tool to mitigate this randomness, Dylan had to spend many rerecords on this section until the wool behaved exactly the way he wanted. Note 7 (13:12): He actually only needs one more crafting table, not two. Making a second one didn't cost any extra time because he needs to wait in the portal for 4 seconds anyway Note 8 (13:49): Technically, the game sets your spawn point on the bed, and when respawning you, it will place you next to the bed if it's unobstructed. Note 9 (15:49): In the context of the TAS, the section with the Blaze took multiple tries to get right, and the Ghast was forced to spawn. RNG manipulation doesn't work in Minecraft the way it works in a typical console TAS, so Minecraft TASers sometimes resort to other means to force perfect luck.

(to be fair the issues with Dream were based on mob drops and piglin trading, not world generation. so technically a different value; RNG as he mentions here with the ghast spawning is seperate from the world seed.)
@@aquasomnus he wasn't defending dream, he was just pointing out the difference between a lucky seed and lucky RNG, but Stormborn Apostles comment was my first thought as well LOL
That last but where there is just enough time to think is one of the best parts of this. Nothing beats that feeling for me of being in a game and just that momenentary though of "what am I doing?" pops into my head.
Did you have to use Runescape music within the first minute? The nostalgia lol Those are the tracks Harmony, Autumn Voyage and Flute Salad and you beautifully played them on the piano
3:28 Despite the concept of TAS has been more than a decade, this still needs to be pointed out because there are still people think they're "cheating" or something.
@@blajjkothat isn't how it is, its the chance to spawn near a woodland mansion with the specific rooms needed with a nether fortress with a blaze spawner within active distance of the portal. (Then obviously with the added end fortress position and end spawn too) The number is based on the amount of seeds the script had to generate this specific scenario on average, not the chance for a single of these things to happen. He never said that *one* of these things are that rare, its the fact that you're getting many rare things to happen in a singular world, which narrows down the chances a lot. So no, its not that a near spawn nether fortress is that rare, its that a fortress near spawn in a world where you spawn at a woodland mansion with the right rooms immediately accessible and ruined portal. Since the odds are all linked, the chances drop drastically per stipulation you add :) hope you have a nice day and that this cleared it up a bit for you!
@@nuzzlevee yeah i knew that but from what the probability is before and after he revealed the nether fortress spawn, we can see its 100 (too lazy to check but i think its 100) so basocally its a 1 in 100 chance to enter an unused nether portal and spawn near a fortress, which i dont really bevieve is true. edit: completely ignore everything i said its a 1 in 15 youre correct lmao

I can't believe after watching this video, we actually understood the run real-time at the end! Amazing video, amazing work!
You were right, the first time I didn't get it at all, but the second time I was actually able to keep track of everything, amazing video man keep up the great work!
19:05 man a rapper
Awesome video as always ! Also the fact that Dylan had to play it (if I understood correctly, the only tool he had was slowing the game time so he had to play the run right ?) is absolutly insane ! I wonder how many tries on this seed before getting this run ! Mindblowing
Yes but the tool also allowed him to savestate, essentially by creating backup saves that he could come back to, so he didn't do it in a single segment. But yes, he did have to "play" at really low tick rates, as opposed to using frame advance.
@@Bismuth9 oh thanks for the precision, this is still very impressive! And thanks for the great content you make!
@@Ouzala what's more impressive is actually finding the enderpearl throws and bed boosts, I'm sure he did quite a lot of math to align them properly
@@celivalg yeah indeed this is crazy how he can nail and find all those pearl throws with such a close timing and the insane amount of precision needed!
Why don't they make a tool for tick by tick gameplay? Is it just simply because playing at such a low speed is pretty much 99.9% as efficient anyway?
Seeing you go back to more regular speedrun/TAS explainers after the Mario 64 ABC epic really shows how that project has helped you to hone your craft, especially in terms of editing and production. Really great stuff this go around!
Watching this video felt like watching an entire season of Doctor Who, with all these intertwined, overlapping, and precisely-timed events.
Amazing analysis, thank you very much for making this! :)
It's entirely off topic, but I just want to say how much I adore the piano covers of classic Runescape music. Gives me so much nostalgia it's unbelievable.
9:31 im suprised you explained that really really well without taking 14 minutes!
That was amazing, thank you for breaking it down! TAS runs are so cool, and I really respect the work that goes into making them.
13:00 man it's like the inception scene where so muuuuch happens in only a part of a second, crazy!
It reminds me of Fry from Futurama when he drinks his 100th coffe
That's one of the most beautiful TAS runs I've ever seen
This felt like a plot of an anime antagonist character who has time skip ability and somehow the smart protagonist character found out how it was done to solve the mystery. Really coool I enjoyed the video 😮
What a brilliant explanation! I'm already too familiar with Minecraft and speedrunning, but I didn't find your in-depth explanations to be boring. Awesome video, and awesome run :)
This was FASCINATING! More in-depth explanations of insane TASes like this, please!
13:32 the way he mentioned the exploding bed is comedy gold for a non-Minecraft player like me 😂
Not many videos stick out to me, but this one is an exception, the unrushed calming systematic explanation covering such a one of a kind run just is something else, this is not my first time watching this video and wont be my last, thanks for making such a thought out video Bismuth!
Theres something delightful about the term "bed assisted throw"
Love the RuneScape music renditions. Amazing content as always!!!
I appreciate you lining up the timing for the piano notes at the end of the run.
13:25 "Dylan finally lands in the nether"
*he took 8 seconds to get there*
For this speedrun, 8 seconds is an absolute eternity
Well 13 minutes of the explanation video
The 4 second wait for the portal to activate reminds me of the part in the Skyrim speedrun where the longest part of the run is just waiting for esbern to unlock the door.
that was a beautiful video. I've seen TAS runs, i've speedran minecraft a lot, but this was relaxing and really interesting in every way, thank you!
Minecraft in 20 seconds explained in 20 minutes. Very fitting lol.
1 sec in the vid for every frame of the speedrun lol
And I thought tomato's 50 minute explanation of the 5 minute Hitman run was a good ratio!
yes that is indeed the title
Yeah we read the title.
Your editing is massively under appreciated, fantastic work!
I forgot you were a former Minecraft set seed runner. I wish I had money, but I'll have to wait for the Minecraft covers to come out, they were really good as always!
searching 10% of all possible seeds in minecraft is a crazy achievement alone
when the one thing that slows down your run is minor displacements, ender pearl throw speed, and nether portal transportation time
Man your videos somehow keep getting better and better. This one's my favorite so far!
Incredible video. Didn't expect Minecraft to be your next video, but I was pleasantly surprised. The rendition of Mice on Venus at the end almost made me tear up.
10:47 "But in this TAS, three seconds might as well be three minuts" I see what you did there...
What can I say, I like to make puns and phrasings that sneak up on you.
Here are the notes, you are welcome.
Note 1 (5:30 to 6:50):
Making a second one didn't cost any extra time because he needs to wait in the portal for 4 seconds anyway
Note 8 (13:49): Technically, the game sets your spawn point on the bed, and when respawning you, it will place you next to the bed if it's unobstructed.
Watching the speedrun before the video: What the heck is going on?!?!?!
Watching the speedrun after the video: I can see... _and it's beautiful._
This video just kept getting recommended to me on multiple occasions for the past year so I finally decided watch it.
Banger
that's pure art... Those speedruns are wonderful, your explanations are clear and passionating, your story telling and "realisation" is very good... I saw 2 vids and directly subscribed. One of the best channel I ever seen, I don't understand how I didn't found it for so long.
Amaaaazing video! This must have felt like a breath of fresh air after your deep dive into the A Button Challenge!
ABC was TAS as well though. And a ton of glitches, but yeah, they are quite different
nice pfp
I hear that Dream got an even better seed totally legitimately.
(to be fair the issues with Dream were based on mob drops and piglin trading, not world generation. so technically a different value; RNG as he mentions here with the ghast spawning is seperate from the world seed.)
@@lucasriddle3431 whoosh

@@aquasomnus he wasn't defending dream, he was just pointing out the difference between a lucky seed and lucky RNG, but Stormborn Apostles comment was my first thought as well LOL
This explanation is wonderful, and the timing of the music with the end of the video was masterful!
6:40 note that this chance still not even close to Dream's luck!!!!
"luck", yes
Luck 🤡
“After an excruciatingly long wait,” -Bismuth after Dylan waited for 4 whole seconds
It's always an amazing day when Bismuth uploads :0 tas explanations always calm me down, it's just so interesting
I keep coming back and rewatching this video every time YT recommends it to me. It's just an excellent piece, made perfectly.
That last but where there is just enough time to think is one of the best parts of this. Nothing beats that feeling for me of being in a game and just that momenentary though of "what am I doing?" pops into my head.
Did you have to use Runescape music within the first minute? The nostalgia lol
Those are the tracks Harmony, Autumn Voyage and Flute Salad and you beautifully played them on the piano
I was playing Runescape while watching this, got super confused for a second
does someone know where those specific piano arrangements are from?
@@Spyroflexx bismuth can play the piano and probably played them. On previous video he's said he's done all the background music himself
Really good video! Glad to see that you covered the minecraft TASes, as I've always been really interested in those.
DylanDC14: Hey Dave want to beat the game with me?
Dave: Yes, right after these two porkchops are cooked
Dylan: Nvm I'm done
This is just such a well made video, it explains the run so perfectly and understandably
I have tried soo hard to master beating minecraft with this in 20 seconds... Thank you for helping me master it!
A tas is essentially saying this is what you could possibly do with frame perfect everything
13:39 haha he said the thing
haha? whats funny?
3:28 Despite the concept of TAS has been more than a decade, this still needs to be pointed out because there are still people think they're "cheating" or something.
Damn.
This video does a very good job at explaining this awesome TAS.
Thank you very much!
Very impressive video! Incredible editing. Brilliant!
7:05 wow the script looked at over 10% of the possible seeds, which means such a seed could have well been completely impossible to attain
Even more mind-blowing, there is a very good chance that it looked over the seed to your own world and made the decision of how good the seed was.
Either way, he would have found at least an incredibly good seed for the run.
@@levicary3923 if 2 000 000 000 000 000 000 seeds is 10% then its very unlikely he looked through any of our seeds
6:28 love how he just made this number completely up
It’s probably more than that considering dreams luck
yeah lmao "he needs to spawn near a nether fortress-" **ONE IN 300,000,000,000,000**
@@blajjkothis is with all the other stuff.
I remember when 1:30 and 30 seconds was the tas wr, we have made it so far since then
When I saw the title, I thought “no way it actually makes sense to take that long to explain it, it must be bloated to hell and back”. Seeing the run made me correct my opinion.
nah he was yapping 90% of the time
I love the accessibility of your videos, this could be a persons first time learning about minecraft and they would still understand everything pretty easily.
Insane - To me the most impressive part is analyzing all of those seeds, absolutely bonkers
