That 747 takeoff was insane!
I bet the pilots giggled like schoolgirls
🫨
Looked normal in a crosswind. What am I missing?
@@M6Cabriolet it looks cool for us normies that aren't avgeeks or pilots.
Horrible take off
'And if you look to your right ladies and gentlemen you will see the runway where we just took off from. And if you look yo the left you will see what I am supposed to be seeing...'
I wouldn't be surprised if some crew sees this and uses it. Thumbed. I was thinking he might be yearning for B52 type steerable main gear. Go watch one of those landing in a significant cross wind. It's really cool, and probably also much heavier and definitely much more costly.
I've been in a landing where I could see nearly the full length of the runway out of the side window.
@@Aeronaut1975 who was the pilot? Tom Cruise?
@@tom201090 It was a very windy landing at Amsterdam's Schipol airport in the early 90s, that's all I remember!
@@MrJdsenior ... not really. The 747 is a big bird. Go look up the size and weight statistics.
That 747 in the crosswind reminded me how incredibly resilient modern airliners are. Rain, fog, winds, turbulence: no problemo!
Imagine calling a 747 "modern"
@@demeter1793 Yes, I can not only *imagine* doing that, but actually *do* that. To me, it's modern enough.
Is your modern-modern airliner, apart from dropping a couple of engines, really *so* much different & ultra-modern compared to our ancient-modern Jumbos of 50 years ago? If so, how? Are the engines rockets instead of turbofans? The wings producing lift by low pressure under them rather than on top?
@@villiamo3861 airplanes are about 120 years old and the 747 is 54 years old. So the invention of (working) airplanes is about twice as long ago as the first flight of the 747, which means yes, it's old. It's not modern.
By your logic cars from the 50s are modern because "oh they have wheels and a combustion engine so they're really not that different from modern-modern cars"
@@demeter1793 Imagine using the most overused word on the internet: "imagine."
@@demeter1793 The 747 has been upgraded with better avionics, engines, even landing gear has been modernized. Too, the last one built, wasn't that long ago. So, yeah. It IS a modern aircraft.
It's weird but I got quite emotional seeing that BA 747 swoop a bit cock eyed into the sky!!🤗🙄😉❤
The roar of the 211’s still sounds so familiar!
Wind: I blow you off course
747: I laugh at you....
Pilot: I didn't spill my coffee did I
The 747 will never stop being gorgeous ✈️
Came here to lay down the same thoughts. Fabulous aircraft and you got to particularly love the BA Speedbirds :)!
How about the GREAT pilots that did the amazing takeoff!!!!!!!!!
Not a patch on concorde or the De Havilland Comet...
That last clip of the condensation off the leading edge of wings look so cool...
Also loved the first clip of the 747 takeoff.... Best plane ever..
Planes get most of their lift from, about, the front 25% of the wings. The curve causes the air to move faster, over the top of the wing, causing lower air pressure above the wing, than below. The low pressure, in the right humidity and temperatures, causes the condensation. The rest of the top of the wing is designed to return the air, back where it was, as efficiently as possible. 😊.

Don't be silly. It's obviously caused by their chems not trailing! 😂
The Queen of the Skies looks majestic no matter what!🎉
Always LOVED the 747. Loved to fly in them and still love to see them in action!
Whiz air lines sound like it came from a comic book.
i dont like a 747,its a very bumpy airpocket prown plane,in comparion to a Airbus, i prefer flying in a Airbus,it just glids,747 hits evry airpocket there is
@@eisbeinGermany how do u now that
There is a reason it's called the queen of the skies I guess. I personally think they are intimidating, it's a lot more to handle compared to a 737.
According to pilots on the type having flown also other liners including heavies, it was really like a big Cessna 172 to fly. Easier to fly than many airliners.
There is a video somewhere on the tube where a 747 instructor makes Cessna 172 instructors fly it with circles to land after a little bit of manual flying. All in a row ! And guess what ? Every instructors land it at the first time and say it's really like a Cessna 172. The height of the flight deck and the latence of the engines response were the biggest differences they noticed but overall it was like a flying club aircraft. It was designed to be flown like this.
This era is over.
What a beautiful plane !
That twin otter literally touched down and headed straight to the taxiway.
That was my thought too. It pretty much stopped on a dime. They are amazing planes.
Did he? I was just thinking that the runway was very wide, and very short.
That's how they do!
That hard flair at the end helps a lot, seen several do that.
Having flown on Twin Otters the stopping distance is amazing! But the G force too when on board is also amazing lol
Loved the 747 take off. Beautiful.
That first clip was crazy! Big almost lumbering beasts of aircraft and that crosswind takeoff shows that they can handle some crappy conditions with ease.
Easy? You call that easy?
They let us go.

747 take off passengers: " AHHHHH, WE'RE FLYING SIDE WAYS !!!".
pilots : " That was damn fun."😅
@@johnbockelie3899 I've ridden takeoffs like that before in a BA out of Heathrow and it was still smooth as silk!
I love this channel because the content is exactly as advertised, and it is as simple as that. Kudos!
Yea no fake thumbnail foolery
1:41 that Ground worker was so disappointed he had to walk away
yep, was giving the stop signal but it never stopped
Thanks to the legions of plane spotters around the world who make these videos possible!
They are our true heroes!

I'm pretty amazed that the "floating" A380 didn't go around!
I got tired of counting the markers after 5000'. That must be a LONG runway.
@@Fast351 13,000'.
Sydney 16R is over 12000 feet long. He flared a bit early and held it off. No big deal as he wasnt carrying speed. 1000 to 2000 in is ok.
Because EUROBEAT INTENSIFIED 😈🔝😂
@@Paul-kw1og He touched down around 3500 feet in, not 1000 or 2000.
The Queen quickly composed herself! Some amazing things caught on film.
That A380 pilot 0:54 was kinda thinking 'more wheels more braking power'
Well he might have skipped the fact that only inboard engines have thrust reverser 😁
@Hilman Yeah but I'm sure there was plenty of runway 😅
It was crappy piloting skills. Too much airspeed.
@@williamtsmith9668 at least it was a safe landing 🤷♂a landing you can walk away from is a good landing
@@williamtsmith9668 could’ve been a wind gust. Didn’t look like he was too fast.
clips this week a really great!
I love watching 747s taking off and landing. So beautiful and to think of the skill of the pilots puts me in awe. Sane thing I feel flying. I have so much respect for Pilots of such huge aircrafts.
Awesome and man I miss the BA 747’s! Never imagined it would be my last journey on one in 2019.
Went on a VA 747 from Gatwick-Orlando and a VA A340 on the return trip in 2012. Was an amazing experience for 6 year old me
The Twin Otter is really in its element on runways like at St. Barth.
So preventable---that wingtip colliding into the elevator of the parked plane. Unfortunate for all involved.
What’s the point of a wing Walker if the pilot ignores him?
@@billbrockman779 Exactly.
@@billbrockman779 the pilot didn’t ignore him. He probably can’t even see him. The wing walker is there for either the marshaller, if the airplane was under its own power, which I doubt. It was more likely being pulled by a tug and the wing walker was there for the tug driver.
I was in the airport in Auckland, NZ awaiting a flight to LAX. However, a wing on the plane on which I was scheduled to fly was hit by the wing of another plane... so, "sorry, we won't be flying in this plane.. you will be flying on another aircraft 8 hours from now...and you are NOT allowed to leave the airport in the meantime."
@@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 You can clearly hear the engines and the spool down after the hit. Looked like they were doing a 180 or so.
Magnificent bird.
Holy guacamole! That 747 takeoff was crazy !
The Queen showing how it's done ✔️ in all weather conditions !
Like seriously how majestic and beautiful is the Queen of the Skies
This BA crew performed a highly skilled crosswind school book like take off‼️
Those DHC-6 are amazing. Why do they even bother with the runway? Just land em right in the parking position.
Jeez that 380 was jacked up big time, was long, then drifted right of the CL and then almost had a pod strike. Nasty.
Certain airplanes will always get my attention, DC-3's, Constellations, and 747's.
And B-52's! 👻☠️🗽💯🙏
that was an eye-opening heart-pounding series of clips
Twin Otter was landing at St Barts, one of the hardest approaches in the world. You have to be certified to fly in and out of there. That was a completely routine approach and touchdown.
The approach from the opposite direction is very straightforward, but the wealthy people on the beach don't like the noise.
747 the best jumbo jet! Queen of the Sky's! Last time I was on one was in 1991 on Canadian Pacific from Vancouver, B.C. to Gatwick, England!
That 747 takeoff looked terrifying! I’d be very nervous as a passenger in such conditions. Maybe I’m just stupid but since a bad experience I’ve not been into too much wind while in a plane. I also live in the North of Europe where wind can get nasty sometimes. But of course this industry is packed with security regulations…
@Bercilak de hautdesert Hard to fully ignore when the moment the wheels lift off the entire aircraft leans on one side due to strong side wind when you feel the wing could touch ground. I still know that both the power of the engines and the skills of the pilot should be able to withstand those forces but sometimes I can’t help thoughts flashing in my mind for a second. That’s what makes it so nervewrecking on such occasions. Your tip is a good one and it probably helps to think that way. I used to read about a pilot’s thoughts on turbulence. According to him it is like sitting in a river raft where you just need to feel the waves in your body and kind of go along with the ride to smoothen it out. Ignoring the runway is another practical tip. I suppose when it comes to landing, pilots are trained to make decisions to go around and attempt landing one more time, whereas once already committed, again skills and engine throttle should still be trusted, so that the aircraft wouldn’t simply go tumbling because of a weird angle of wheels and wings :). I’m not super frightened but someone explaining helps.
the only thing terryfying was how much zoom was used so that we couldnt even really get a good view of the entire aircraft flying sideways. almost got a headache with how much it was zoomed in!
Props to the pilots
Lens foreshortening sure made the 747 seem closer than it was. I love my 1000mm lens for stuff like that.
That sway during take off in that 747 I'd had been praying out loud
Now that my friend is how you fly...nice flying bud
Kudos to the pilot for taking off in that crosswind.
Epic video
That’s was so cool to watch God bless that’s captain 👩✈️
Exceptional today! Loved the crab the most! 🎉
I’ve heard of crosswind landings, but I never heard of crosswind takeoffs! Those were some gutsy pilots!
*Great Skills*
00:35 "seeing as I just might scrape these trees I better get my landing gear up NOW."
Great to see queen of sky again , she so gracefully
The Queen of the Skies! The most magnificent commercial jetliner ever built.
I've built and maintained these aircraft for over 20yrs and despite understanding flight principles even I still wonder how the hell they just glide up up and away!
Having watched a C5-A Galaxy perform touch-and-gos at OGG in '83, I'll never forget the late, great Douglas Adams' words from HHGTG: "They hung in the air in much the same way bricks do not."
I don't bother wondering so much as long as they do.
Thanks for the memories, Bob...
Best video of 2023 so far!
There you can see how strong mother Nature is… even for a good old 747 🙈💪… the SQ 380 should do a go around !!

My goodness, the 747 is beautiful.
The A350 is such a gorgeous aircraft that is so cool it has sunglasses.

I cannot imagine what pilotting those huge planes is like.
Amazing stuff.
I've landed in Wellington, New Zealand, on a windy day! On the final approach the plane was at about 45 degrees to the runway! Looking out a side window we had a good view straight down the runway!

The plane was like, "Hold on, cuzz, I wasn't ready." 😂😂😂
It makes it clear to me how good these pilots are to not freak out and to do their jobs so well that catastrophic events never happen.
The absolute pinnacle of American engineering Boeing 747. None will be better !
fehlrock, our greatest plane, our greatest engineering achievement. The Concorde was a beautiful bird, too. No one will equal these two planes. 😢
Major props to the pilots landing and taking off these aircraft
That A350 is a gorgeous plane! Very mesmerizing!
Unusual for an SQ pilot to make a landing like that. I’ve taken many flights with them and almost every landing has been smooth as glass.
That was my reaction too
Trying to make a landing smooth is a great way to float out of the touchdown zone 🤷🏻♂️
That 747 was really putting out the steam. Very windy day.
The pilot of that little puddle jumper did really well
LOL the ground crew guy just walking away after the Wizz plane hits the other. "Well I guess you guys aren't going anywhere for a few hours. Or days."

Awesome piloting! 👍
That sideways takeoff was crazy. I would have screamed if i was a passenger in the plane😂.
But the best part it you wouldn’t have felt it. And if you didn’t have a window seat, you wouldn’t see it either.
@@stevenbeach748 Exactly. And no screaming on the plane.
I've ridden BA 747 takeoffs from Heathrow like that a few times. Never felt a thing!
You likely wouldn't notice it. Even the view from a window seat wouldn't startle a person unless they have enough general aviation knowledge to recognize what they're seeing.

That first take off, OMG! The info (more or less) "Winds out of the (whatever heading) @ 40 mph gusting to 70". He'd almost certainly rather be departing the runway than arriving under those conditions, though.
