I don't think the A330 even felt that landing. That was absolutely smooth
Won't go as far as to say absolutely smooth, but yeah man, I thought that wasn't too bad. Passengers inside were probably clapping. ☺
@@Silo-Ren yea, he needs to stick to boats.
To me it looks like he saved it in the last half second, maybe releasing the back pressure just as the back bogeys touched, allowing the front bogeys to touch gently enough.
Certainly not as bad as the intro led me to believe! Click bait?! Lol
well probably compare to Ryanair... 😅
I agree it look like a 8/10 butter landing
That landing of a 767 in Antarctica is a rare and wonderful video! I like how the shadow looks like there is a huge GoPro camera mounted above the flight deck.
Can you imagine how frigidly cold it must be there in Antarctica, it must be about -50 or -60 degrees. I know in the wintertime there it gets colder than -100, but that's when it's dark outside and when nobody would be going outside because it would simply be too dangerously cold. Aircrafts at that time of year don't even take off or land, do they? Because engines would freeze up and not work within a few minutes of being exposed to that low of temperatures, wouldn't it?
Did the flight actually fly all the way from Iceland to Antarctica !?

Swiss001, Aaron Rheins, and a few other channels fuel mine
@@TheOtherAviationGuy My PC background is a screenshot Aaron Rheins took with me and another dude
Pun intended.
The noise A380's engines ~ 0:37 was just something else.
0:42 That was a hard landing? It wasn't textbook clean, but it wasn't a smackdown either.
Insert obligatory Ryanair joke here 😉
With the Antatica runaways, you may not have a centerline, but you certainly have plenty of stopping distance.
It was a nice landing though, I'm always impressed by any plane landing the ice.
Not really. The runway has to be cleared way better than normal runway before every landing and takeoff. The ice is not smooth, far from it.
I've seen a Zamboni-type machine being used to compact ice runaways. There are other methods too.
@@Meisha-san as a non pilot, you'd assume landing on icy runways, the only difference be replying on reverse thrusters rather than brakes.
Sure, as long as you don't care about ever taking off again.
2:11 one of the shortest takeoffs in history
The growl from that lufty a380 was epic!!! I love you’re videos 👏👏👏👏❤️
The LH attempting to land and then full power was wonderful. I love to hear the surge of those engines.
Holy cow, that STOL take off! :O
Like a helicopter 😂
00:34 I love the sound of the engines when they spool up. You can practically feel the powerful thrust they're creating. A380: "I wanna be a C-5 for Halloween!"
Same
that small growl really reminds me of C-5
Fr@@kismitgonewild
Sounded like an angry Decepticon... ;)
Except for the fact that the a380 is much more powerful than a C5..
The A380 has a takeoff thrust of 280'000lbs while the c5 only has 200'000 lbs of thrust..
The Antarctica landing was shockingly smooth! I wonder if if helps that packed snow is softer than asphalt / concrete. Is it maybe less bouncy?
Maybe they’d just only hire the best of the best pilots to land somewhere so exotic
It's important to point out that isn't really snow. It's ice. Antarctica is the world's largest desert: it only gets around five inches of precipitation per year. Although the ice is derived from snow, the ice covering Antarctica is the result of around 60 million years of (minimal) snowfall that has never had the opportunity to melt off.
Most of you will be ahead of me on this point already: if you only ever defrosted your refrigerator every 60 million years it would be almost indistinguishable from Antarctica, and just like Antarctica it'd be over-run with Polar Bears 🐻❄ . And trust me: from personal experience you don't want Polar Bears in your refrigerator, they eat everything and are quite anti-social. So defrost regularly folks. End of lecture.
You're welcome :) 🤣
Ditto, those are ice runways with some surface snow.
That said, if for whatever God forsaken reason I'm along for the ride, I'll be asking; Exactly how thick did you say the ice is??
@@fluchterschoen Every refrigerator in the world has as many Polar Bears as the Antarctic.
You are welcome.
@@fluchterschoen No polar bears in Antartica, so your Southern Hemisphere refrigerator is safe. Just like the penguins don't raid Northern Hemisphere refrigerators!
the more and more I watch, that icelandair landing in antartica is impressive. firmly sicks the landing yet maintains the lift for a smooth nose gear.
Gorgeous landing on an ice runway by that 767 pilot.
The A380 approach to Leipzig most probably did NOT go wrong because it was only a training flight. Not touching down saves a lot of landing fees.
Not sure the left wing had dipped a lot..
Right.
In late spring 2023 Lufthansa performed daily training flights from Munic-Leipzig-Prag-Vienna-Munic before commencing regular A380-flights in June.
Yes I agree with yo because I think there aren't regular flights with A380 at Leipzig airoport !
Beautiful, thanks for sharing! love the STOL pilots, amazing what they do! A-380 with those gull-wings is one neat looking assortment of nuts and bolts to gracefully hit the sky!
Really think the whole STOL thing is overrated. There's so much headwind the plane is able to generate enough lift to keep flying with almost no groundpseed...
that's what makes it cool@@harrodharrod5239
That A380 going around is incredible when you think about the mass and energy involved.
What amazes me most is that the wind has enough power to destabilize a huge aircraft like that!
@@AnimalisMD The wind is offered a lot of surface to attack.
But let's be honest: The sound of the engines is awesome, isn't it?
And the sound of the engines.
@@herrpausr7008 Sure is!
@herrpausr7008 those trents sound stunning! Give the Ge90s a run for there money
Great go around from the first 380. Nice judgement.
Loved the Antarctic landing filmed both ways.
But best was the little physics-defying tail-dragger. Thanks from Australia.
The Air Portugal A330-200 nailed that landing, outstanding skill of the pilot and crew.
Air Portugal is also known as TAP
That Antarctica landing was a butter landing. That pilot was very skilled. 👍
I'm guessing only certain pilots are cleared to fly into and out of Antarctica.... Seems like they would need an extra level of training, but this is just a guess.
Amazing episode! Well done!
You're easily pleased !
Damn that growl from those Trent 900s Lufthansa A380 on that ho around was beautiful!!
That first video looked like it was computer generated 😂 great selection of videos as always though! Especially watching that 767 landing on snow
The LH A380 Go Around was quite🔥. Amazing👍
As usual, your videos are amazing! Thanks for sharing.
0:22 The windsock shows practically no wind so the right and left corrections at the last minute seem unexpected.
I think it was circuit training just before starting long haul flights again 🤔 Epic all the same!!!
Leipzig Halle Airport is used for pilot training, lots of touch and goes and go arounds. Lufthansa started to operate their A380s again on regular passenger services after COVID and temporary storage of the fleet.
compared to other video's it seemed premature for the piolets to go around as opposed to trying to land but considering it's a freaking huge plane, i don't question their willingness to be cautious.
Great vids man.
Luv this channel, jurist luv it!!
Great video
The TAP landing was spot on magnificent.
Cool as usual!
The sound of A-380 engine right as it initiates go around is extremely satisfying.
Cor! Those trent 900s on the A380 ❤
Great video!😸
Love the antartic flight!!!
1:11
I didn’t knew they had runways in Antarctica lol
ATC: "I've got a phone number for you to call when you have a moment." Pilot: "Get stuffed."
Can be seen on Google Earth.
If you think about it isn't antartica the worlds biggest runway?
what surprises me the most, is that it's an icelandic plane landing there
@@delfinenteddyson9865 The "Troll" research station is operated by Norway, thus a flight being leased from neighbor Iceland makes sense if they are bringing passengers and cargo from Norway. Just speculation though.
A380 landing = Usual day for Aerosucre😂
Impresionante video,me gusta 😮.
Gracias y Buenas Vibras.
The first Clip (LH A380) was a flight training in LEJ.
3 EXTRA SECONDS OF AVIATION YESSSS
Great to see the low altitude warning is work in the Antarctica landing :-)
Nice thx
That Fiesler Storch at 2:00 , amazing plane.
that sound of the A380! 💪
Looks nice
STOL aircraft are amazing! The engineering that goes into it!!!
It's so cute the Portugal air plane was wearing a winter scarf 🥰
The TAP was a firm landing on slippery runway, not a hard landing. Perfect.
Was the BA plane dumping fuel the transatlantic flight that was reported circling for about two hours over the Irish Sea / Atlantic last week? They had to return to LHR after a technical issue but made a normal landing.
TAP Air Portugal A300 : * Lands hard*
Avgeeks : It absolutely buttered the landing as always
Dumping fuel (02:35 min): What is the standard altitude to do this? What happend to the dropped fuel? Does the fuel reach the ground? THX!
That 767 landing wasn't churning up snow. That was melted butter.
Good to see Steve Henry doing his Stol skills.
That A380 in first clip growled 👍
Great compilation. Was the A 380 go around during the test phase before being used again in Sommer 2023
The STOL demonstration....I think it's the first time I have ever seen rotation at one second into the takeoff roll hahah
Curious…with all the enviro don’t drive to the shop jargon we get today…what’s the impact of dumping fuel over farmland or ocean?
Как всегда крутые ролики про авиацию👍
That buzzsaw tune was sharp.
0:17 this is just the calmest day at Wellington and Madeira, nothing to worry about ❤
2:11 « la portance? C’est quoi ce truc? » 🤣
The A380's go around was a training proceduce... This was a pilot training flight with Go Arounds and T&Gs.
Anybody who thinks that A330 had a hard landing has never flown on Ryan Air!!,😊
@@FunkyMonk6 Yeah, I know. It’s like a “knock-knock” joke. Easy to understand, and easy to criticize. I did the first part, you did the second part.
@@FunkyMonk6 Same back at you Mate! Hope to chat again soon somewhere down the runway.
Never had delays with Ryanair....more from TUI ! A bumpy landing no problem.
Nothing garners attention like poking fun at Ryan Air. It’s like baiting grizzly bears with smoked salmon to get great pictures.
You guys are right. Running the same old, tired, boring, C-minus smack on Ryanair is just so played out. Time to stop piling on. Ryanair deserves a break. We can do better.
Spirit, on the other hand…
Great landing in Antarctica
The plane let out an angry growl and a "you're wasting my time!"
That Icelandic Air landing was smooooooooooooth.
Truer words have not been spoken!
I’ve seen multiple clips of planes dumping fuel and I can safely say if I never see it again I’m cool with that.
0:32 that RR Trent roar *_*
what happens to the fuel after it get's dumped? does it just disperse into the atmosphere?
Ooof that engine power up sound of the A380.
fun fact speaking of A380s i saw one today when i landed in melbourne from proserpine and on the runway going to the taxiway i saw a singapore airways A380 :)
Gotta love the bright white intro/outro screens when most of us are acustomed to dark mode... nice job 🙄🙄
Troll Research Station?!
My favorite was the STOL plane. Practically went up and down like a helicopter! LOL The A380 dumping fuel makes me wonder about the environmental effects of all the aircraft dumping fuel into the atmosphere. Yes it dissipates, but it must have some kind of deleterious effect.
An interesting act regarding the red arrows "In 2019 the red arrows sprayed 643000 litres of diesel and 63000 litres of coloured dye" yet we are being told cows burping is bad for the planeT ??
@@ericturner2477a lot of it happens over water which is still not good, but the biggest blunder so far was the pilot that panicked over a California and the fuel ended up falling on a school while children were outside playing. Many of them suffered lung injuries. It was a really bad move on his part.
I liked every clip and the Stol was cool indeed, but the dumping made me sick, never understood why there is no alternative.
Landing a heavy plane must be a bit more difficult because of a higher ground speed, is this the problem?
Or is it a safety measure to prevent the plane from becoming a giant fireball when the landing fails?
@@bramesque a little bit of both, but it's mostly the weight and those tires being so expensive they definitely don't want to have to replace the ones that blowout on heavy landings.
Please why do they dump fuel?
And the master of doctoring pictures strikes again.
A380 at Leipzig/Halle? need to see more of that
What is the A380 doing at Leipzig ? Was it a test/practice flight ?
Cool
That lil STOL plane is the perfect drug plane.
Pilots...
Google says dumped fuel simply vaporizes and is gone... Is that correct?
At ten thousand feet, that's essentially the case. Under a few thousand, the kids in the playground start coughing and parents call lawyers.
@@icollectstories5702 somehow... I knew that! Thanks for your help!
Epic growl 0:32
Genuine A380 chemtrails. Watchout London😮
Unstable A380 with a side stick. Awesome
2:03 i dont need a runway
In Leipzig they are doing training flights for the 380
2:52
That's a proper chemtrail. 😂
0:33 the A380 kinda sounds like a propeller plane
The TAP Airbus was most likely landing overweight or close to max gross landing weight since they were fueled for LIS and they were only a short distance from EWR. Nothing unsafe about the landing, just not a lot of time in ground effect after the flare.
If something goes wrong with the 767 in Antarctica, what facilities are there to get them going again, if any?
Two vending machines full of Snickers Bars ("Not going anywhere for a while?")
That 767 pilot was very skilled to keep the nose up with reverse thrust. Every little helps
Love those 767's, as that's the same plane that ran out of gas about 180 miles
short of an airport, and "glided" all the way there with Captain Pearson. It landed
in a small airport in Gimli ,Manitoba / Canada, and it's called the Gimli Glider. That
plane if high enough, with enough speed, could glide and land with "no engines",
with an experienced pilot. You can google the Gimli Glider, and see for yourself.
It's such a great aero dynamic plane. I love that plane :)
I wonder if it was one of those A380 re-activation flights and the pilots were still not quite used to it so they made a small mistake and rather decided for go-around.
The video is almost 10 years old. Its from june 2014 and Lufthansa uses the Leipzig/Halle Airport to train their pilots.
That TAP Landing was text book in relation to a contaminated runway.
0:55 Hard? Perfect landing!
That amazing Stol could nearly take off & land on your driveway.
With the grace of an arctic snowflake gently alighting on the surface of a frosty glacier, the pilot who landed that 767 in Antarctica iced it as it slid onto that glacial runway as smoothly as something that slithers slides onto something slippery.
The TAP-Pilot did exactly what an airliner pilot does on a contaminated runway (like on snow) It’s an intended landing technique to secure contact with the runway in these conditions .
Are planes allowed to dump fuel anywhere ? Like... over cities ? What happens to kerosene when it is released ? Does it evaporates or is it raining kerosene on people underneath ?
Julien
Depends on the height dumped
Lower height people on the ground will get splashed
0:16 sorry guys just me practicing in the flight simulator
Wow that was short
