I don't remember this being a thing? I know the snipers generally only used clips at all rather than reloading 1 round at a time if you took the scope off of it
@@soarinpenguinlive6372 I don’t think U.K. gun laws are dumb, I’d say the vast majority of the population don’t have the same appetite for owning firearms as Americans do. Personally having been to the US myself on one occasion in an open carry state I found it to be a very unsettling experience. I don’t believe that people should be able to own firearms (unless there is a substantial reason for a person to own one) the cost of human life lost due to their accessibility far outweighs the freedom of owning such weapons. That’s not to say I don’t think guns aren’t interesting, but personally I’ve never had any ambition of owning one even if I could.

@@soarinpenguinlive6372 Why should laws be made to make people feel comfortable seems like a silly question to me, as a citizen you would want legislation that you were comfortable with as having anything otherwise would be a negative, legislation changes frequently and is added or removed because of this exact issue. Whilst I myself am not a US citizen and could only say what my experiences were like as a tourist, it is apparent just from US public opinion that current gun control legislation is not comfortable with everyone. On the topic of knife crime and the suggestion that more accessible gun legislation would reduce homicides, figures prove this is fairly inaccurate as Saint Louis in 2017 had some of the weakest gun control legislation in the country yet its homicide rate per 100,000 people was 11.1 which compared to London in 2018 which had a homicide rate of 1.54 per 100,000 people shows how wrong this idea is.

Exactly. I actually enjoyed Cod: World War 2 Campaign, even if there was some discrepancies here and there, a Game is not all about it being Realistic at times.
@@afallenhuman True but it's sad when both realism and gameplay would have made something fun and interesting, but it went cartoony due to lack of effort. Good example being when a terrifying gun like an MG42 Machine gun feels more like a sub-machine gun for long range instead of a fully automatic bolt action rifle. Or when in a multiplayer game the 'character' behind each nation is stripped apart by the ability for loadouts to equip any gun despite nation.
Except the sight that is on the gun is not modern. It is a Nydar sight which is a type of reflector sight. It existed in 1945. It is not the modern "Holo sight". Actually the one of the first reflector sight s was made in 1900, which is the "Grubb" sight.

Actually not true and that’s one thing games get very wrong about the Garand rifle! There would be no way the enemy would be able to hear the ping of the rifle over the cacophony of gunfire around them it is much quieter than a gunshot
One thing to note as well is that CoD's PPSH-41's magwell uses the PPS-43's for some reason. Too bad he didn't touch on the usage of clips through the scoped rifles.

I own one of these guns. Sometimes you do in fact have to shove the piece forward, but it usually just shuts closed when you touch and release pressure on the follower.

Yes, I was surprised he missed that. The game shows the correct reload. All the select-fire open-bolt Thompsons feature a "sear trip" which disconnects the trigger and leaves the bolt locked to the rear. It is activated by the follower of an empty stick mag. This makes reloading very simple, and I'm not aware of any other open-bolt SMGs which copied this innovative feature.

@@NarutoninjaXV Maybe he was, but the M1 and M1A1 cannot accept drum mags. There were several good reasons the military stopped procuring drum mags. The Soviets did the same thing with the PPSh-41, favoring only stick mags by the end of the war.

i remember my grandpa's practice rifle grenades from when i was a kid, he was born right after world war 2 and they still practiced with them in bootcamp in the danish military for a good while after
I really like how he doesn’t talk shit about the games for there inaccuracies, just explains what it’s like irl. He understands that there entertainment and it sounds like he plays and enjoys these games too.
@@G-Mastah-Fash Most of the PPSh guns that ended up being captured actually were rechambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, They were designated MP41(r) and surprisingly enough they *did* see a lot of service on both the western and eastern fronts. The version shown in game is not an MP41(r) however, so I personally think the devs just wanted to put a PPSh in the game.
The ppsh was complete shit. It had a high rate of fire but its accuracy was horrible past 50 meters. The MP40 was better in every way except rate of fire

All you want from your SMG is that high volume of fire so you can clean out enemies at low ranges. Now all that aside...I personally was much more bugged by practically half the german army in the West being armed with am SVT instead of a G43 in that game. That one was ridiculous.

The "Cone Hammer" thing when talking about the C96 must have been taken out of context, the "Cone Hammer" is the name for a very specific type of early C96 from a Turkish contract. I imagine he got off on a tangent and the editor misunderstood what he was talking about.
Actually, no, they're not. While the Ottoman Turks indeed did order Mausers, the "1314s", and those were conehammers, that order was a mere 1000 units. There were about 13000 conehammers made.
I love how he delivers information and how he points out issues with guns but also understands that some of the inaccuracies are gameplay related to make the game more enjoyable.

@@trager8933 the game should’ve at least made it a bit more immersive. That’s like someone complaining there’s semi-auto rifles in a Revolutionary War game and you saying the same excuse. If you’re gonna make a game in a specific time, then adhere to that time if the game is going to be somewhat realistic and not a fantasy.
Reddit yes, the COD subreddits no. Yes I do remember people mentioning it, but it's been 3 years since WW2 came out. Most of the people I know didn't seem to care. Granted, most of them aren't as well versed in firearms as I am so it stands to reason that they wouldn't know the difference.

Supposedly, Tom Clancy had someone who would check a game's authenticity back when he was still around. The license was eventually sold to Ubisoft, who doesn't care much about authenticity.
The best thing about Mr Ferguson in this series really is that everything that shows up in the game that is real, he has access to a real one. It's lovely.
one thing i love about this guy over other reaction guys is that he recognizes design decisions made to keep the game enjoyable, like the widened rear sight of the garand
He should do escape from tarkov taking a look at weapon modding (in the recent patch and not videos from the closed alpha like other channels did), and gameplay from a competetent eft player
@@IrregularDave also another suggestion would be taking a look at the different animations for each weapon (rechambering, emptying the chamber, the different reload styles etc) tho it would most likely be a really lengthy video but he would have a tons of stuff to look at in eft

3:19 Thought it would be interesting to mention that to my knowledge the largest reason rifle grenades where phased out was the MASSIVE recoil and lack of range. Also of course it is very dangerous if you where to misload with standard ammunition at which point you have a grenade on a stick that will go off when you pull the trigger.

7:23, I love Mr. Ferguson, but he is wrong here. The bolt on the Thompson will stay locked back even when the gun is empty and the trigger is pulled, despite it being an open bolt gun. Mr. Ferguson is a very intelligent man and what he is describing is true on many other submachine guns, it’s just not correct for the Thompson in particular. I highly recommend watching the ForgottenWeapons video on the M1A1 Thompson for more info. That being said, on the earlier Thompsons with the drum mags, the bolt won’t always hold open and will close on an empty magazine.
He corrected himself mid-sentence. He said there were no reflex sights on small arms and he is right. A reflex sight is a reflector sight, and those were at the time mostly used as aircraft gunsights.
@@cottonballs185 Which wouldn't have been fielded to the majority of troops fighting overseas. I don't think most World War II veterans even realize that optics even remotely exist, beside that night vision w/e it's called being used in the Pacific theater.
@@alephkasai9384 SHG messed up the fire rate of the MG42. The rate of fire is significantly slower than the real life counterpart. They also messed up a bunch of other guns' fire rate. MP28 shouldn't be firing that fast, PPSh shouldn't be firing that slow, Stinger LMG's fire rate was toned down a lot etc.
If I'm not wrong, the Thompson had an automatic bolt hold open on empty, that allowed you to just re-insert a magazine, and immediately begin firing again without doing anything else, since it's open bolt there was no bolt dropping or anything like that. I could be wrong, but I did read that some where.
I remember a German ww2 veteran said that German soldiers love to take the ppsh as a trophy gun or as an extra secondary weapon. Also is it possible that perhaps, at that stage of the war that the German soldiers using confiscated weapons due to their limited supplies of weapons & ammunitions
I like this guy. He points out obvious historical errors but he doesn't lose sight of the fact that these are games with entertainment in mind and that for most people, historical inaccuracies do not factor especially in the heat of gameplay.
I love how Jonathan focuses strictly on the weapons as opposed to ripping on the game or the developers - he isn't a developer or a game tester, he's a firearms expert and that's what he focuses on. Games are for entertainment and nothing more, and he recognizes that instead of just going "durhr this is so unrealistic, this game is totally unplayable durhr".
Despite being open-bolt, the Thompson actually locks open when empty. So a reload would indeed consist of just a magazine change, since the bolt is already back. The Thompson is pretty much the only open-bolt subgun this applies to, so I don't blame him on that one.
My grandad was a WWII veteran. in just one day during the battle of Britain, he destroyed 8 german aircraft killing 32 nazy aviators easily the worst mechanics the german air force ever had
This is an issue that pretty much every game faces, and it seems that he's aware of stylistic and functional decisions being made in the design of an FPS. So.
I bet watching this after Vanguard must be a blast. I certainly thought WW2 was bad. But holy smokes batman Vanguard punched me so hard I had to do a double take. That makes this game look ULTRA REALISTIC by how bad it is lol
The Nambu Type II is depicted with a charging handle to the right side of the weapon that does not exist in reality; in reality, the Type II operated on a principle similar to the Gustloff Volkssturmgewehr, where the entire front section of the gun and the barrel shroud would recoil when firing (which too is not depicted in-game). The actual charging handle is the tab extended to the left side of the weapon (which would pull back the entire barrel shroud when pulled), depicted as a sling mount in-game.
@Someone lol You can IN THE MODERN WORLD but every soldier in WW2 never used a M1 Garand with a drum mag. And seriously why the fuck does a drum mag garand make a ping noise. It Literally breaks the immersion of what a ww2 game is, I'm telling you it's supposed to be realistic, it needs to be accurate.
The reflex sights were what turned me away from the recent WW1 and WW2 games. It was basically Modern Warfare with a WW1 or WW2 skin on top of it. What is even the point of doing either WW if you are just going to throw the era out of the window.

Those were the case with early era Garands. By 1945, New Garands without the problem occured.

The Lee Enfield one though... your chracter only puts in one stripper clip worth of ammo which holds 5 rnds and it refills your gun with 10

I really like how he doesn’t talk shit about the games for there inaccuracies, just explains what it’s like irl. He understands that there entertainment and it sounds like he plays and enjoys these games too.
Papashas shown in the Normandy campaign has always bugged me so its nice to have an expert weigh in on that particular scene.

@@G-Mastah-Fash Most of the PPSh guns that ended up being captured actually were rechambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, They were designated MP41(r) and surprisingly enough they *did* see a lot of service on both the western and eastern fronts. The version shown in game is not an MP41(r) however, so I personally think the devs just wanted to put a PPSh in the game.
The ppsh was complete shit. It had a high rate of fire but its accuracy was horrible past 50 meters. The MP40 was better in every way except rate of fire

You aren't trying to win sniping contests with it or anything like that. All you want from your SMG is that high volume of fire so you can clean out enemies at low ranges.
Now all that aside...I personally was much more bugged by practically half the german army in the West being armed with am SVT instead of a G43 in that game. That one was ridiculous.

Actually, no, they're not. While the Ottoman Turks indeed did order Mausers, the "1314s", and those were conehammers, that order was a mere 1000 units. There were about 13000 conehammers made.

If you’re gonna make a game in a specific time, then adhere to that time if the game is going to be somewhat realistic and not a fantasy.

Reddit yes, the COD subreddits no. Yes I do remember people mentioning it, but it's been 3 years since WW2 came out. Most of the people I know didn't seem to care. Granted, most of them aren't as well versed in firearms as I am so it stands to reason that they wouldn't know the difference.

Supposedly, Tom Clancy had someone who would check a game's authenticity back when he was still around. The license was eventually sold to Ubisoft, who doesn't care much about authenticity.
The best thing about Mr Ferguson in this series really is that everything that shows up in the game that is real, he has access to a real one. It's lovely.

3:19 Thought it would be interesting to mention that to my knowledge the largest reason rifle grenades where phased out was the MASSIVE recoil and lack of range. Also of course it is very dangerous if you where to misload with standard ammunition at which point you have a grenade on a stick that will go off when you pull the trigger.

7:23, I love Mr. Ferguson, but he is wrong here. The bolt on the Thompson will stay locked back even when the gun is empty and the trigger is pulled, despite it being an open bolt gun. Mr. Ferguson is a very intelligent man and what he is describing is true on many other submachine guns, it’s just not correct for the Thompson in particular. I highly recommend watching the ForgottenWeapons video on the M1A1 Thompson for more info. That being said, on the earlier Thompsons with the drum mags, the bolt won’t always hold open and will close on an empty magazine.

He corrected himself mid-sentence. He said there were no reflex sights on small arms and he is right. A reflex sight is a reflector sight, and those were at the time mostly used as aircraft gunsights.

@@alephkasai9384 SHG messed up the fire rate of the MG42. The rate of fire is significantly slower than the real life counterpart.
They also messed up a bunch of other guns' fire rate. MP28 shouldn't be firing that fast, PPSh shouldn't be firing that slow, Stinger LMG's fire rate was toned down a lot etc.
There NEEDS to be a part two. Theres so many more guns that need criticism in cod ww2
If I'm not wrong, the Thompson had an automatic bolt hold open on empty, that allowed you to just re-insert a magazine, and immediately begin firing again without doing anything else, since it's open bolt there was no bolt dropping or anything like that.

I remember a German ww2 veteran said that German soldiers love to take the ppsh as a trophy gun or as an extra secondary weapon.
Also is it possible that perhaps, at that stage of the war that the German soldiers using confiscated weapons due to their limited supplies of weapons & ammunitions

I like this guy. He points out obvious historical errors but he doesn't lose sight of the fact that these are games with entertainment in mind and that for most people, historical inaccuracies do not factor especially in the heat of gameplay.
He needs to go over the expansive multi-player weapons added into the game. He'd have a field day. Definitely could be a multi-part series.
I love how Jonathan focuses strictly on the weapons as opposed to ripping on the game or the developers - he isn't a developer or a game tester, he's a firearms expert and that's what he focuses on. Games are for entertainment and nothing more, and he recognizes that instead of just going "durhr this is so unrealistic, this game is totally unplayable durhr".
Despite being open-bolt, the Thompson actually locks open when empty. So a reload would indeed consist of just a magazine change, since the bolt is already back.
The Thompson is pretty much the only open-bolt subgun this applies to, so I don't blame him on that one.

This is an issue that pretty much every game faces, and it seems that he's aware of stylistic and functional decisions being made in the design of an FPS. So.

I certainly thought WW2 was bad. But holy smokes batman Vanguard punched me so hard I had to do a double take. That makes this game look ULTRA REALISTIC by how bad it is lol

The Nambu Type II is depicted with a charging handle to the right side of the weapon that does not exist in reality; in reality, the Type II operated on a principle similar to the Gustloff Volkssturmgewehr, where the entire front section of the gun and the barrel shroud would recoil when firing (which too is not depicted in-game). The actual charging handle is the tab extended to the left side of the weapon (which would pull back the entire barrel shroud when pulled), depicted as a sling mount in-game.

The reflex sights were what turned me away from the recent WW1 and WW2 games. It was basically Modern Warfare with a WW1 or WW2 skin on top of it. What is even the point of doing either WW if you are just going to throw the era out of the window.
Titanfall 2 would be really cool. Some interesting future weaponry to take a look at, for Pilot and maybe Titan as well.
