bro this game is demanding me to use 100% more brain than any other game I have played. Loving learning something new and the challenge that comes with it. cant wait to play this game fluently as it will give me a glimpse as what I imagine an engineer might feel.
You can use the ghost of decorative ceiling molding along the floor to prevent planting. The tiles will count as an invalid build location so dupes will never build them, so when your ready to plant the next location just cancel the ghost!
Happy new year Echo! 5:12 You can plant 17 wild thimble reed in a 32x3 room. In your demonstration, just move everything two tiles to the left and you get 2 viable planting spots next to the door. Very good explanation of the Pip planting rules. It's always challenging to get all the details across.
The cuddle pips are melting my heart! I'm not sure I could ranch them because I'd feel bad if any of them were just bouncing around looking for a hug and no one came by
i have a couple of things to mention: 1. the egg contents of pips are the same as a hatch, so omelets will be the same. 2. if you are making your first batch of steel for an aquatuner, you can use the steam room to liquify phosphorite into phosphorus, or sulfur into liquid sulfur. you can then pipe it to wherever you want to make a farm, and then use cooling lines to cool the tiles plant temperature.
I always did the "surround a metal door then deconstruct" method, but uses metal which I need. Dirt needed too much heat, BUT phosphorite melts and solidifies at regular/high temperatures. Sounds like a better alternative.
@@jonumine6250 unless the temperature is greater than the overheat temp of a steel aquatuner, i tend to favor aquatuners over manual placement. mainly due to its ability to scale up without difficulty.
5:20 I think it is possible to squeze 16 timblereed. You need to plant them from far side 3 in bunch with 3 space. so that way you can plant 5x3 and 1 at the entrance.
Great video as always Echo and you've covered a whole lot of topics! I am very much of the opinion though that using the glass forge to make natural glass tiles with hydroponic tiles is by far the easiest and most efficient way of making natural tiles so would have liked to see this included.
I started playing recently and am just now learning ranching at cycle 200+. Thanks for explaining the space needed for crops, it explains why they wouldn't plant the third wheezewort in my battery box!
I gotta say Echo, I really love your videos! Be it the let's plays or the tutorials, I prefer the let's plays for casual learning the ropes of the game while having a lot of fun watching you. And this is for me for future reference: The Pip planting is at 8:11 (I totally will forget how it works again and then I know where I'll have to go to ;) )
I've slept on this mechanic for too long. I finally sucked it in and gave it a try and I love it! I'm in mid game and have a collection of wild wheezeworts planted around my base. It's better than just keeping them in storage forever.
Thanks for the wonderful tutorial! A small word of warning regarding doors creating solid tiles - care if you want to mine those tiles later - you'll only get 1/2 the materials, unless you melt that tile. So that method might be faster than the liquid glass, but it has the potential to delete 1/2 of your precious metals.
9:54 that was very usefull i was tring to make a natural reserve for improving my dupes moral but i had my cultivation right under the natural reserve room thanks echo
Ah, the Pip. They're responsible for 100% of all edible planted food in my colonies. Because I'm stingy with my resources and water; I just have them mass-plant seeds that turn into Nature Reserve parks that double as gardens. Or if I have the critters, creating Glossy Drecko farms.
I actually prefer pips to hatches due to the fact they are resource free if you use wild trees to feed them. Yes not as much meat but don't have to watch resources if you are on a constrained map.
And if doing a cuddle pip, it takes less space so you could make smaller ranches and still get eggs, and still feed then with arbor trees. But "evolving" them is a bit cruel.
Yay, Pips!! 🥰 ... Whenever I can make a Park or Nature Preserve, I also like to have a wild pip or two that live there, the decor value is nice as dupes run through, plus they're just freaking adorable!! Good stuff, very helpful info, Echo. Tyfs. Happy New Year!! Best of wishes to you and the fam.
Absolutely great video as always! For natural tiles you show glass forge with valve that is great idea on one end, but on the other end you should use hydroponic farm, when you deconstruct hydroponic farm even with one gram of glass you get natural tile.
I'm just using the Natural Tile mod to make natural tiles. I have plans to remake pretty much the whole asteroid into natural reserves and parks with little bases spread out everywhere.
I just played this game last week, I don't have enough knowledge to understand evevrything on the game. But your videos helped a lot. Thank you for the guides!
I use my pip farms like if were chicken farms ^^ they lay eggs so often with just a few timble reeds, never had the need to do more than that regarding pips
Concerning creating natural tiles, I have seen a lot of people recommend using sulfur over algae due to it requiring less heat to go liquid (not certain on this since you need more to make a tile) and the low SHC allowing it to cool/harden very easily. Not to mention with the sulfur geysers it is pretty trivial to replenish compared to mining POI in space.
Def a ton of ways to do it. I should probably make a full tutorial on creating natural tiles as there are many ways. I just wanted to give people a couple of quick methods to try.
Well, i use the buidable dirt tile mod. 50kilo of dirt and you can place it how ever you like. BUT remember deconstrucking a 50 kilo dirt tile gives you back only 25 kilo. i think its a fair cost for that mod.
"Ok, so this is the theory to made block of things where to plant, now let's see the easiest, faster way". Just like a math teacher. I ended here because I wanted to know if they were more worth than a plague to convert in meat so they stop putting seeds everywhere.
Drown molding it easier. Just place it over the tile. It can't be built if it's not on the ceiling. But it keeps the tile covered so your pip can't plant there. Just cancel the build to open the next space. Saves you building a ladder tile. Then having to remove it. No dupe is needed. The Dupe can't build it, so they don't. And you don't need a dupe to remove it. One of the many exploits in ONI. A game full of exploits people use. In fact, ONI is nothing but exploiting game mechanics.
wolframite, another no-go... I tought all metals were the same... And it looks so cool for a cold farm with the brick background wall.... cobalt it is, sadly... maybe iron...
If I were wanting to use Cuddle Pips in order to boost egg production with incubators, would anyone know a good way to automate taking them from the incubators to an evolution chamber after hatching? Since it'd be faster than letting them all hatch naturally.
Cuddle pips take 4 tile spaces only rather than 12 tiles by usual critters. It's 4 or something, but less than other critters. I have 2 ranch of cuddle pips and there are more than 40 of them still not cramped,
Oh i think u forgot something. The ultimate entombed plant pot technique. I don't think it's a bug. It's more like a mechanic abusive. Exploit the game to make it more easy while going is tough
I appreciate yours guideline but it's over complicated part of creating a natural tile. I use molten glass, valve, pipes, pliers and dupes. It's a lot faster.

Who’s needed plug slugs, pips and bugs?!!! Why are you talking about critters which usefulness is questionable?!!! Voles-Infinite source food that don’t need anything for sustainability, only for building more! Pacu-ultimate source lime and food, that gives mega decor and filtering polluted water into clean cold water for free-you need just tricky building and automation! And you get place that will give you indefinite food and lime, decor thousands on 5 tiles wide and filtering polluted water 200g per sec per Pacu-and it’s all for free! For expanding you need only seed-any seeds;) Pips, bugs, plug slugs… Who ever use that critters?! Only if have time and get everything you need!

I still prefer the door method. It may cost more metal ore but it's way simpler to create and requires no setup
Cuddle pips taste better than pips. 🍽️
lol
psychopath 😂
i am going to saw trough your bones
Does a cuddle pip burger give you a hug on its way down?
You can taste the innocence.

Polluted water vent, grow thimble reed, pip eat the thimble reed, pip make dirt feed dirt to hatch unlimited coal and meat.
I've always wondered about how to ranch pips, so this has helped me greatly, thank you.

Pips are such adorable little menaces.

I got a tongue twister: "Plentiful Pretty Pips plant Pincha Pepper plants."
I have learned so much about this game thanks to you!

Good tip Ms Sha Sha. Happy New Year to you and yours as well :)
Awesome guid!
It'll be great to see a puft guide from you
Especially after geotuner was added
It takes so many bleach stones
It is on the list :)
@@EchoRidgeGaming good luck explaining mixed ranches
I want a stuffed puft. One day, I shall have one.
I do wish there was a much more logical way to make more natural tiles at will. Just make it more expensive to do and we all should be happy
Thanks for another helpful video!

Nice job finding the Hidden Echo!
I'm just using the Natural Tile mod to make natural tiles. I have plans to remake pretty much the whole asteroid into natural reserves and parks with little bases spread out everywhere.

Happy new year echo! Thanks for posting!

Thank you and enjoy your ONI journey!
Fun fact: some people compare pips to cats but actually they were inspired by squirrels and even called so in game's files if I remember it correctly
You do remember correctly.
right as the printing pod delivers me approximately fifteen pip eggs
At cutlle u can put the auto coletor at side as the room have 3 height and then put another timble per coletor
Happy New Year Echo! :)
You too Nazgul!

To be honest, I will never start any pip ranching. But it's still a good ONI video to watch.

Thx! Cant wait to go the hard route in creating tiles, can't be ruining the farming immersion, now can we?
There is also a mod to construct nat tiles.
"Ok, so this is the theory to made block of things where to plant, now let's see the easiest, faster way". Just like a math teacher.

that trick for measuring the planting area is so handy!

How to get more arbor seed? Tutorial maybe?
I should have mentioned this! Pips will “find” them in arbor trees for you.

Steel, surprisingly soft, at 50, found my solition, sadly only after creating an entire 3-floor room of woframeh
Hmm guess i need more ore now
I always end up putting pips in a park with only thimblereed my dupes are forced to go through coming out of the toilet… lol
why at 7:55 you killed a bunch of cuddle pips?

You'll need to put critter drop off into a room that can be flooded. Alternatively, put it into the steam turbine room.
So Cuttle Pips..
does the "hugged" buff (for eggs) last a full cycle?
can they become wild somehow? (so they eat less)
Hugged lasts 1 cycle. I've never known a critter to turn wild once it is tame.
honestly, with your dedication to the game, you'd like RimWorld. Its a lot more open world tho. but its still a 2d colony management, just topdown.
I do enjoy RimWorld quite a bit.
