i love the physics in SE. two thrusters on the back and it doesnt just start spinning uncontrollably, plus if you casually stroll into someone you sometimes just die XD
The Gyroscope is constantly spinning, so the locations of thrusters matter only for protection... Gyro is god
What about a drone carrier, a large solar powered drone that serves as a resupply point for forward deployed combat drones.
I actually make drone/containers that are modular that I use as storage for my base / mining to rotate them out while I'm out in space, autopilot op

cool concept: small-ish ship with a remote control drone. Give it a cutter, a welding arm, and a camera, along with the required pieces of a drone. Have it be able to detach from a small part of the ship's interior and let it fly around inside in out. The cutter can let it cut open the ship to fix internals, and then weld and fix everything back together. I think it would be cool.
2:00 One surefire way to protect antenna and remote control: Put them in the back.
The enemy would have to go through the front and the central battery or cargo to get to those parts. And at that part, they got through the center, so it hardly matters anymore.
You want the control block as far away from the enemy in normal combat operations as possible.
I have honestly wanted this video since the original survival antagonist series.

when using batteries depending on the drones use i will put in solar to recharge or have a way for the drone to dock up to a charging station ,

As for the Battery recharge problem, I'm not entirely sure this would work but maybe a reactor could be onboard without any uranium, then when topped up the extra power could recharge the battery? or would the battery need to be set to recharge state? My whole fear of this problem would be the drone would max out the power off the reactor. So maybe additional reactors?
For extreme range drone control you can make a relay drone with laser antenna and a normal antenna bounce a control signal from your location to the relay drone via the laser antennas and then have the drone broadcasting out to max range via normal antenna. This will let you control any other drone around the relay drone out to the max broadcasting range of it's antenna. With no limit to the distance between your actual location and the relay drones location. You can also have the relay drone work as a charging station for other drones. You may also connect more than one relay drone together to bend the laser signals around objects or make overlapping normal antenna fields to make larger drone control area's.
I use a space based control satalite the bottom is packed with laser antenna so it can cover a very large chunk of of planet survive.
Used your drone video to make my very 1st drone and it's amazing, railgun snipes until ammo out then warhead death dive, it's the last video I uploaded if you have a spare minute, this video help me a ton
Ok, this is going in my refrence lists, drones always were a problem for me but this helps a lot.
If you are thinking about the aspect of a " swarm " style then a mobile launch platform can work out but if you are using it as more of a recon drone that does not have a M.L.P. ( Please refer to ^ above name ) then solar would be about the best way to go so you do not have to worry about the added weight of a cargo container, ice, engine and storage tank.
I utilize drones mainly for patrolling supply lines to some automated ice gathering posts I've built, but they were pretty damn expensive drones. I'll have to fiddle around possibly with a larger volume of cheaper ones like this.
Seeing these vids has helped in my meager creative mayhem. Used to be I'd just copy paste static ships to blow each other up. Only now after a long time am I starting to tinker with survival. But makes it more fun now that I know how to set up basic drones.
can you please show how to make a welder drone that welds your base and automaticly restock ? i realy need that for survival XD
You don't need a drone for that, the BuildandRepair mod will do that just fine in your base.
So the obvious one would be to use solar panels, but because of their size they wouldn't necessarily be the best option for a small drone. What I like to do is tho have a 1 or maybe 2 small reactors specifically for charging.

Either it's gonna need its own solar panels or, lacking that another support ship or carrier, which could function as a command ship or relay.
You guys need to build more automated drones. You should also try to come up with a system that tells you if a drone has spotted an enemy. Maybe even a display screen that shows the status of each drone.
Great video again. I would like a follow up how to wage war with some drones on some AI buildings or protect some mining drones. Oh boy - I wish there would be a mode where I can control such units like in an RTS.
Mod/Script Request, What if SE was VR and there was a script that attached ships to different VR tools that allowed you to use drones like extensions of your hands.
Two questions: how do you get your free camera to move so quickly (3:16) and how do you move your block forward and backwards away from you (3:21) ?

SPACE DRONES
Well I know that in "current colony survival" series there is a list of technologies that you can use and I'm talking about hover engines or plates?(didn't found the moment to look up the name of the things name) Anyway, use the hover plates on the side of the drones, they have very handy function" 0 damage bumper" the collisions can be avoided and it can use those to move as well.
So make a basic drone innards and place 2 thrusters facing front and back 1 for 1 direction. > Coat it with armor. > position hover plates from out sides, up and bottom.
Optional you also can:
- position Gatling guns from sides protruding from heavy armor.(not turrets)
- add more thrusters to the back and make it speed oriented drone.(quick and too small to hit)
- shape it as you like it. Turn it into mining drone if you wanna(actually it might work wonderfully, no crashing into tunnel walls, no "I did it again")

Can you show use how to make drones and a mothership for them with the Fleet control script?
I think a drone with a connector for charging Makes sense. Perhaps two drones could patrol one area. The first can recharge while the second patrols and then they can swap (taking up only one connector.)
I am curious....Would it be possible to make a drone that follows a script to automatically weld up a blueprint? Even go as far as connecting to a connector to pick up the supplies that it needs?

Nice video but as far as charging away from base a solar rover is generally a good thing to have or u could attach solar panels to the drone itself but thats extra weight an creates more of a target 🤔

Doesn't need to charge. Send it to your enemy base. Send 100 of them. 1000 of them. Just keep sending them, they're not gonna be returning.

How do you best use them in a ship? Can they launch and then attack automatically, or protect a ship? How do you built/program them so they come back automatically?
It also could be interesting to have two drones patrolling, one with a bottom turret flying 3 m below the one with a top turret, together they have 360° coverage (+room for charging connectors)
I just thought of this but what if u were to make a battleship drone that u could control from a distance and if a bunch of players came aboard the ship u have 2 options; self destruct the ship OR kamikaze into the other ship or base something to keep in mind for a challenge to try during colony wars ;)

The grinder goes into the ship and then the warhead detonates
In practice there is the problem of the drones being shot down

so i tried a wee thing, and let me tell you - high altitude solar powered patrol drones are amazing.
Make another drone, call it a "Charger Drone", then fly it from your Outpost to another remote location and find a drone to charge, dock to it using a Rotor head, then charge it up! then undock and fly back home to your Outpost.

What do you suggest with the small batteries on drones? I’ve noticed they aren’t particularly useful unless you put like 4 of them, and even then can only barely handle like 3 thrusters... seems the larger one is just more useful anyway :(
Agree. Missiles are overrated. Yes, they can be useful to deal with larger ships and it is usually a good idea to have at least one launcher as decisive factor. But majority of turrets should be defensive PDC's, both causing decent damage and providing defense from players and enemy missiles. Exact proportions depend on how much offensive ship we design, though it mostly relate to additional launchers as all ships need defense. Almost always when someone put those 50/50 he is a n00b though.
Can this all be done on xbox? Just got the game and still got a lot to learn. Loving it so far.

can you make a drone go to a different specific waypoint when its power reaches a certain threshold? basically patrol until power is 15% then go and recharge its self then return to patrol?

Mining drone set up be nice
I feel like now a days with recent updates small scale drones such as this fall into two categories A fuckin scary due to the small scale rail gun or B easy prey due to the fact of the combined variety force and also accessibility of weapons at least in vanilla which could pick them off from a distance unless their a massive drone with a equal amount of fire power
Question, I want to create a drone which will remain docked until and enemy comes into range, undocks goes after other ship comes back re-docks? Am I dreaming?
i dont know how to do it exactly but it might be possible with sensor and timer blocks.

I wanna know more about drone AI for some true automation where they will pick and follow a target, search out damaged blocks or ores if that's possible etc. Also if they can be configured to operate without a GPS so you can have a mobile base.

Classclown 102 yes, you’d need a welder and a projector on the ground. It seems like it could be more efficient to just weld ships from projectors using a welding ship.
How are batteries recharged?
Can one give a drone printer the command to produce new once only when others had been destroyed?
My drones are so small on my moon base that I use them as replacement friends to talk to also they can fit through doors lol

Just remember that hydrogen production has been nerfed by 75% in generators since the release update. So keep that in your mind if going with a hydro build. Keep your design ultra light or just do not bother with small hydro ships. I have built hydro fights for years and the update has basically made that impossible without using twenty+ o2/h2 generators. Battery is the best source right now for power but it requires an external source to be charged with is easier to do than building an internal source in each craft.

i have never had a use for hydrogen beyond the first departure from a planet. i dont know if its just my designs, but every time i tried building anything with hydrogen thrusters it just ran out of fuel within seconds :/
@@fenchellforelle it requires a little more work in designing a system that can sustain and balance itself with enough fuel and thruster to be applicable and yet not weigh to much to be irrelevant. Now with the hydrogen production being reduced most small designs are just irrelevant.

Ive run into an issue with automated drone production, the welder station i made can make a drone craft, but i cant access the remote control block to engage its autopilot to make it patrol after cutting it free from the printer, any tips?
if you put wind turbines along the rout will it charge of them wirelessly or do they need plugging in you might need a script and two time blocks one to tell the other its flat so it goes to a charging point

Maintenance is pretty hard, you could use GPS waypoints, but it's pretty pointless and not very reliable. Kamikaze though, that's another story! If the target is stationary, you can simply set a gps coordinate (there are scripts to get them from far away). There are also missile scripts that uses cameras or turrets. They can be a bit tricky to set up if you haven't used scripts before, but just put down some time and you'll get it done.
Love the vids man, but I am having a problem. I can't get my little drones to act like the NPC drones. even after high jacking thier program block and timer info and applying them to my own drones. do you have any helful tips. o and I can't get any other modder area superiority scripts to work for my drones eather. so at this point I can't make any drones of my own with any script on the workshop or from in game found scripts. HELP!! PLEASE!!
