Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. Most beds you buy nowadays are not solid wood except the headboard. If you get full wood, it costs so much. Great to see you girls build your own. 👍

I LOVE THE SIMPLE BED FRAME ...I WOULD ONLY SUGGEST TO ROUNT THE CORNERS SO NO ONE GETS HURT
I don't know about the ticks there but here in Washington state some of us use ground cinnamon, i take an old sock and put cinnamon in it and just before we ( the dogs and I ) go out side i just dust my legs and just rub the sock all over the dogs . I have done this for 6 yrs and have had zero problems with ticks.. 😊

@@Vanwives We have 40 acres of heavily wooded land in Northern MN. Every Spring I treat two complete sets of clothes, (T shirts, long sleeve shirts, jeans, sweatshirts, shoes and hat) using a twin pack of Sawyer brand Permethrin insect repellent. It will remain on the clothes for several washings. Apply it as directed, and it will really keep ticks off of you.

I want to start by saying thank you girls, your content over three years has got me through some totally crap times! I love the fact that you have shared both good and bad with us like we're actually your dysfunctional friends. My furry boy Finn runs around like a nut job when we get the pack barks at the end of each episode! It's ok when I watch on a Sunday or when possible, but if I can't sleep and he's laying on my bed I quickly learnt not to watch when he's laying with me because he jumps up and runs like crazy looking for his dog pals in my bedroom! ❤❤❤❤ there's a full heart for the four of you.
You two ladies have done such an amazing job on making that little ol' cabin into a beautiful home!

You should put in a curved shower curtain rod. It allows more light into the shower and you don’t feel so confined. Just did it ourselves and we love it!

You should put a long cushion on top of the wooden storage bin, so it is an extra comfy spot to sit outside!

I think rounding the corners on the bed frame could prevent painful incidents running into your bed. It would also tie in with the mirror, and dresser.
We’re about to start enclosing our covered patio, and turn it into another room in our house. Lots of windows so we can put some of our bigger plants in there, and a comfy sofa to relax and look out to our patio and little oasis/jungle we created in back of our suburban house.

This has been such a time of growth for you two. You have created this beautiful home, both inside and out. The skills you have gained and the confidence which now lives in you is life changing. The icing on the cake? IMO, your film making! And it is not just your videography and editing. Story telling! That bed is amazing, especially the base. When you buy a bed, those boards are always so flimsy and too far apart. You ladies can do anything! We're so proud of everything you've accomplished. ☺👏👏
I'm going to use the paddle method next time I paint! I love to paint but hate the stupid taping beforehand. I really like the new tub surround - lots of room for the girls, places for products, versatile, and easy to clean. (I hate housework, so that's a big deal for me.😛)

Tip for the future. There is no need to place masking tape along the glass. After the paint is dry, use an exacto knife along the sides and then a glass paint scraper. Easy peasy and a clean, crisp finish.

Such a HUGE Accomplishment! Everything looks beautiful. I hope you both are really proud of yourselves not only for all the skills you have developed but your PERSEVERANCE through so many inconveniences along the way, in addition to trial and error, etc. Porter and friends helped make a lighter load at key times but your vision for the property sustained the entire journey.

It has been wonderful watching you build out your cabin. I did much the same thing in the 90s, replacing every surface, inside and out, and I was pretty proud, too, when I looked back to see what I had done and how my skills had improved over the years.

My only suggestion would be to replace the regular shower rod with a curved one. It will give you more elbow room.

My rv is falling and now my health. Gosh I'm only 69!!! Wish me luck at just surviving this year! Love your home! Respect your young healthy bodies and treat them well!!!! Because as you age? Suprises pop up, diseases magically appear you didn't know run in your genepool and suddenly you might have diabetes or worse..... love your health!!!!

You have done an outstanding job in the transformation of this cabin. The skills you have acquired along the way has been extremely impressive and inspiring. An incredible journey that kept me tuning in week after week. Two truly Jill's of all trades, master of many after all this. You have a gorgeous property every corner so well though out, gardens, fire pit, outdoor spa, outhouse, powerhouse, workshop, composting, lounge and more. So many cool things. I'm extremely proud of you both. To have accomplished all and filming it, a part that takes so much thinking, time and labour. I'm certain that in one day if you didn't film you could of done 2/3 of more work on your projects. It is mind-blowing the energy that's requires to do all that. You both are extremely strong, courageous, talented and intelligent simply amazing.

I can’t believe how much everyone has developed in the three years since Covid Lockdown, you with your van with its windows upgrade, then the house and land renovation/development, a plot by the lake and the other on Baja (oooh!), and it’s been fantastically entertaining and inspiring. Elsewhere, I’m now following English van-girls doing up a remote place in Ireland, another young but mad travel couple settling down in Scotland with another Reno job, more dog-mad Ex-Brit vanners rebuilding their van in Andalucia, Spain, E&Bec coming to terms with reality in Ontario, another Brit couple ploughing thru steaming hot India on their quest to ‘tread the globe’, and the amazingly wonderful Italian family developing a thousand year old house and olive plantation in Sicily! There are so many wonderful adventures happening out there and you, Jazzy and Crystal, are one of the very best to know. Thank you for sharing. And good luck with the next project!

Having watched the cabin reno from day 1, Y’all should be proud of all you’ve accomplished ! I love how the cabin looks.
Keep in mind that outside storage box will store a lot better if the inside is line with a thick plastic, with holes drilled in the bottom to let the moisture out. This can be a large shipping container that you cut up and put inside, a piece of plexiglass, fiberglass or any product that moisture will not pass through all it’s doing is keeping moisture out so it doesn’t have to be any thicker than 1/8”. if you do decide to put the electricity and the heater in there, the moisture will be rising. See you have to put in some kind of vent to get that moisture out. And then makes small fence with fans to put on the side of the back personally I just put two on the back about 16 inches from either side and about 2 inches below of the top. Just the circulation of air would draw things out very quickly also except for when it’s below freezing, but you can buy a heat lamp bulb with a little temperature switch. I use one of my pump house and it’s 10 times bigger than your box so it would work fine.

Where I live in Auckland, the humidity is high. We also need air flow around the beds to prevent mould. What helps is to have excellent drainage around the house and if there isn't sufficient air flow under the house, plastic on the ground will help keep the air under the house drier.

You did inspire me to add 3 feet of counter space in my kitchen. I had the idea to use some lumber I had on hand. I got talked out of it 3yrs!!! Ago. I got sick of the blank space and said screw it. I pulled out the tools and built it in an afternoon. After watching you two. I love the results!! Thanks ladies for the inspiration!
You two have done a amazing job on your cabin I have mentioned this before. You really need to include the bottom of the cabin before the winter sets in. It will help tremendously with holding on heat and keep water lines from freezing,and you floors will alot warmer to walk on and to keep the pups warmer as well

They have over 6 inches insulation foam underneath their house! They've also insulated and protected their pipes. I'm sure the house could use some skirting as the final wintering touch. ☺️
