Thanks fellas. I have been hoping you guys would do a part 2 on this outstanding slug. I contacted you a few months ago, asking about a good 12 gauge ‘bear defense’ load I could make for a friend of mine that lives in Alaska. I think this slug is perfect for the job. Over 3,000 foot/ pounds of energy with 35 grains of LongShot makes for a great bear defense round. Knowing it’s accurate on top of that is just added bonus. It’s made out of hardened lead so it should penetrate pretty deep even if it hits bone/ cartilage/ muscle tissue/ thick skin. Keep up the great work guys.
Ballistic Products does list 25 of the DGS slugs for $17.99 - buy-in-bulk savings! That was a great video! If I were hunting with slugs, you’ve shown these are what I’d want. My brother is in a shotgun/slug only deer zone. I’ll tell him about these, but he currently has a 2-3/4” 12 gauge; not 3”.
How old is the gun? I don’t know of any 12 gauge made from the 80’s on that only has a 2 3/4” chamber. These will work in 2 3/4” if you use a plastic overshot card and roll crimp.
Hey fellas, I was in Alabama over the weekend for an outdoor wedding, it was in the low 30’s!!!! I live near Buffalo, so I’m used to the cold, I expected it to be lots warmer than that down there!!!
This part of Kentucky ranges from -14 to 110 degrees depending on time of year and weather. You’ll experience 2 different seasons in the same week commonly.
@theshotgunscientists Once the snow goes away here, March or April the plan is to figure that one out. My eyesight is only really good to 75 yds max. I am still hopefull for the Lyman style waisted slugs as you can cast and shoot them without needing to buy the tail feathers. Self sufficiency.
@theshotgunscientists that's a good barrel then. I've never,3 that I built be very bad. The 5500 II was the worst. Run a 835 with spring comp stock and a Russian 3.8 scope. Have limited quantity of 3.5 slugs tho.
I see you loaded these slugs in 3” hulls with 36 grains of LongShot and got great results. It’s there any load data out there to load these slugs with a grain or 2 more LongShot for a little more punch? I have all the manuals that Ballistic Products sells and they don’t have to much load data on these slugs.
@@theshotgunscientists I kept watching and saw the barrel open & rifling. Impressive group. Who still makes a rifled slug gun that a regular scope can be mounted on?
Those are about 2 bucks each, but with that accuracy, well worth the cost.
Id give 5 bucks a piece for them honestly if I wanted to hunt.
@@theshotgunscientists Yeah, you'd pay a lot more than that for a factory round that will do the same.
That group at 110 yds is actually a 1" group if measured fron center to center, maybe 3/4". That is awesome performance from a slug
We’re impressed for sure

Thanks man. This slug is just pure awesome
Just ordered some more of them from Ballistic Products. With the $4.99 shipping special going on right now, they are not to expensive to order.
Great video. I've shot the dgs 12ga and 20ga with great results at 50yards. Might have to try those.
Nice

He’s got an early ‘70’s Ithaca Midel 37 and early ‘70’s 870 Wingmaster (non-Magnum).
Thank you for the tip on the “work-around”!😉

Great video guys. That truly is the best accuracy I've ever seen from a shotgun. You guys are driving the used gun market crazy right now.
Thanks man
I used them for my deer hunt this year, might as well have been a rifle the way they fly and hit. Totally the sution for smoothbore guns.
I would like to see just how far they’re accurate too. 110 yards is nothing for these.

Agreed, this style of slug is really the best thing you can load.
Seems to be
Very cool video . Awesome groups! Merry Christmas guys.
Same to you
Have lapped that barrel? That really helps most slug barrels.
Stock gun

@@congerthomas1812 Pretty much gotta make them yourself these days. The only 3.5” slugs on the market that I know of are all for 10 gauge.
@theshotgunscientists I've got about 100 lightfields. 9 inches drop at 200. Have every bullet I've shot, all have stopped inside, as big as a quarter.
Very nice looking slugs... sleek taper on them.
The accuracy is nice too lol it’s a win win

We did 40 with them in the previous video and they still came out fine. I think 40 was the highest listed charge.
Ok. Cool. Thanks so much for all your work.
Did this load use the X12X gas seal? I know some load data for this slug called for it.

Thanks for the reply! Merry Christmas to you all!🎄
You too thanks!
Thats nuts for 110 yards out of a shotgun! Well done.
Thanks
Cool got you and talfeder mouse on the same day,
Nice I literally just tuned into his video lol
Great video.
Glad you liked it
@ Do you remember the group size out of the smooth bore? Thank you
I don’t but if you search dgs Thunderbolt slug you’ll find the video
Was the shotgun smooth bore or rifled?
We mentioned it was rifled several times, you must have missed it
@@theshotgunscientists I kept watching and saw the barrel open & rifling. Impressive group. Who still makes a rifled slug gun that a regular scope can be mounted on?
@ Lots of manufacturers makes rifled shotguns. The savage 212 is a really good one. It’s bolt action and built like a tank and isn’t super expensive.
❤❤❤
Dude, you look a lot like Vanzant. Can ya sing?
