  • This tutorial shows you how to open up a sewing machine and clean out all the years of lint & dust build up. If this video doesn't fix it, try my other video on removing the top plate: • How to fix a sewing ma...
My sewing machine is a Brother Innovis 900D, it jammed very hard and i was unable to get it unstuck using the usual method where you rock the wheel back and forth to release the jam. This was something much deeper. The needle would not move more than 1mm.
So i took the bottom plates off and spent over an hour cleaning out all the dust and gunk. I used a fine paint brush and vacuum cleaner as well as an air can as my last resort. And this completely fixed my stuck machine! So glad i didn't have to pay for a repair. I hope this helps your sewing machine jam.
Check out my video on how to take apart an entire overlocker (serger). It's easier than you think.

this was a good tutorial. I learned from another tutorial that how you thread the needle and the the way the drection of the cartridge in the bobbin, makes all the difference and corrected my jambed machine immediately. After finding out that my machine repair man and his mechanic both have covid and are backed up with 60 machines to fix. thanks goodness for the internet.

I have a Baby Lock BLDC (made in the same factory as Brother) that seized up. Troubleshooting in the manual said there was a thread jam in the bobbin area. I kept her very clean, but there was thread stuck in the thread take-up area - but still was frozen after I got that cleared. The mechanic quoted me $400 because there was a broken gear. It has been over 2 months since he ordered the part - but it still hasn't arrived. I caved and bought a new Janome DC5100 for $150 more than the repairs would cost on my sixteen-year-old Baby Lock. I will put the old girl away and try to find the part myself when the economy is healthy again & covid-19 doesn't have everything backed up. Sewing machines are like cars. When you find that perfect fit for you it makes you cry when you have to part with them.

Bron tea unscrew they needle and try to pull it out, you may need to cut a few threads here and there. Also try jiggling the wheel to help free the fabric.

Expired Onion Hi Onion, If you have a printer you can download the manual and print it. Warning though, it will take a lot of paper if you aren't able to set your printer to print on both sides of the page. Or you can probably sort through the manual pages on your monitor.

debbie keele it’s important to understand that not everyone knows you can take the machine pieces off to clean it. Many people think that only a technician should take the plates off and start digging around inside. That’s why so many people are watching this video, to learn how to take the plates off and what to do and what not to do in order to clean and assess your machine and figure out why it’s not functioning correctly.

I don't have the funds to have it repaired and I'm lost as to what to do ;-( I want to cry, but that's not going to solve my problem. @@Peace2yaa I’m a novice sewer; my handwheel suddenly jammed with a clunk, no movement after sewing fine. I got brave (or stubborn?!) after watching this video, plus one on how to take the front off, and this one: ua-cam.com/video/TUxkGZSg7ZM/v-deo.html
The last video is a man cleaning and pushing a big metal bit, I sort of tried that a bit (different model) plus q-tips/ear buds to clean the metal vertical shaft and got a little movement! That pushed me on :) There was still a lot of resistance, I think mine was getting stuck on the shaft so I cleaned that lots and put on some lubricant oil that came with the machine (never used it before, but was desperate). Cleaned everywhere I could while it was apart and slowly got more movement. On the handwheel side was lots of yellow grease, left that except for cleaning a big metal thread and then spreading some of the grease back around. I don’t know if any of this helps you but something in all that got mine working, so sharing in case, good luck!
