To be fair these detectives seem like they jumped straight of a buddy cop comedy film. It's not that they just come off as bad at their job, their behaviour is comical, like I'm watching a bad play.
@@darrenkorine9031 I mean in a situation where someone literally shuts down like that you have to try everything, if you can provoke any kind of reaction positive or negative it just shows that what they’re doing does get to them, I think it’s actually very good work that they did, I’m clearly not a detective though, just personal opinion

The DonoWall strat. It is easier to execute than most other builds due to its simplicity and as can be seen here, it can be highly effective. Many Detective mains have asked for it to be nerfed since there are no direct counters aside from the Physical or Circumstantial Evidence strat which may not be available in every match.
Chatting
It's easier to execute? Dude 99% of people trying to do it would crack in the first 5 minutes just trying to keep eye contact
@@iu118 We'll of course it'd be hard to fabricate anything under the pressure of a criminal investigation. But it'd definitely be easier to fabricate a lack of emotion than a convincing entirely fake personality.
@@iu118 Maybe not the eye contact part but definitely the lack of emotion.
Is this similar to the alpaca strat?

*Stevens brain* “Don’t you dare”
Steven : Yes ....... shit
WOWW THATS 5 HEAD AF
wouldn't of worked. Stephen knew when to say yes and no
The detective isn't bad at all. The criminal was mentally prepared to be interrogated, he studied law, and is a literal psychopath.
I don't think that even a detective experienced with psychos would have been able to break him.
He doesn't look mentally prepared for this. It looks as though he "went tharn" and almost completely shut down...But it WAS surprisingly effective.
What's surprising is that he studied law. It's easy to forget that his demeaner was completely different prior to this interview where he appears to be near catatonic. Wild stuff. 😐
A good detective makes the suspect accidentally confess, a bad detective (case in point: this video) goes "Why'd you do it? Why'd you do it? We know you did it. Why'd you do it?"
@@snapper1 True, but you have no idea how badly i wanted to reply.... 😐"I don't know".
i wouldn’t say he’s a psychopath, realistically this type of catatonic behaviour is possible by anyone experiencing a “loss” whether it’s a friend, loved one or a murder naturally as humans another human’s death is very significant and can cause this deep despair in the mind and he ran with it. As for the detectives they were entirely doing their job but i believe it’s as you say that he studied law as he looked to the detectives as a joke and predictable.
@@snapper1 Chatting "i know what a good detective looks like lul"
Detective: "Hands on the table"

"Look at me when you talk to me, son" is absolutely something that a man of that age from the American south would say to the defendant
Yeah, that interrogator just screams American South
That state he was in at the end is quite easy to read. I have the same defensive mechanism. You shut down and crawl inside your own head. He won't crack as he's not really there. Just his body and a small part of his motor functions.but his is way worse. Its years of damage.
What do you mean years of damage?
its called dissociation and is a coping mechanism, a lot of people with severe anxiety have this
@@solarino9603 complex PTSD
@@solarino9603 this dude most likely has some sort of a traumatic past that caused dissociating to be his coping mechanism

@@nza1804 Actually the fat detective says it at the end of the interrogation but it's not shown in this edited version.
I’m not a detective, but I wonder if it would have been more effective to have a female detective interview him. His behavior was like that of a kid who got yelled at by dad and freezes up incredibly defensively. He might have been more talkative with a female detective
It’s hard to read or build a narrative when voice tonality, word choice and body language is constantly NPC.
Yeah. Dude essentially turned all the settings to low. The sad part is, with a performance that gave away as little as this, he would've made a disgustingly good poker player. Without hindsight, it's literally impossible to tell if he was actually involved or just a weirdo

He immediately completely shut down. It’s VERY hard to break someone that is shut down like that. He’s just starting at his lips moving only listening to hear if it’s an incriminating question or not. He probably also has seen interrogation footage similar to this before.
Investigator: "why did you do it Stephen"?
Stephen: "I didn't"
Investigator: "STAYVUN"
😂😂😂😂😂
X is right. If you play a binary character who only responds to developments in a binary manner it's very inconclusive to the detectives. It's essentially the lowest risk persona you can play, but not very high reward. The more personable you act gives the detectives more information psychologically analyze you.
Wouldn't it be hard to though? I feel like 1 single slip up and it completely discredits what you've been tryna do the whole time..... That would've been a lot of pressure to try to keep up
@@GiovannaMMIV the objective is not to feint insanity but to not divulge any information to the detectives
@@payamux8933 makes sense but I just find it odd and I'm sure the reason why it's so popular is because he did it so well, I mean he was so quick to break down during the interview but during the interro he was able to power through every technique the detectives had and even made them uncomfortable
Then again I see people criticizing the detective on how he went about it but idk
@@payamux8933 That argument doesn't make sense. If you don't want to divulge any information to the detectives, just immediately invoke your right to counsel and that's the end of the conversation.
I really want to know what Stephen was thinking while being interrogated.
I think that way too often with these. I kinda want to be these killers for a couple hours or something, just to know exactly what they could've been thinking to push them to commit murder.

i dont wanna pretend to know more than the investigators, but i believe their strategy here was weird as they started attacking the dude and expected him to just comply when they could have been more friendly earlier and bait him to talk or try to explain himself giving more incriminating info or slipping up.
guy looked like he was a brick wall tho. what's better, asking a brick wall question kindly, or smashing it with a hammer to reveal the truth.
I like how he raises his hand when he asks a question to the chat, I’ve been watching a lot of his videos and he seems so human and layered than some other youtubers and streamers that kind of have a certain face or personality to portray

Detective: Are you scared?
Detective deep inside: *I'm scared*.
Some of these detectives are truly talented props to them.
The detectives' plan was to "HELL YEA BROTHERRR" a confession out of him.
The second the detective started talking about cleaning I knew I'd have to read chat!
When he corrected the investigators about the “Knifes” being “swords”….that was their in right there!. They should of stayed on that subject, asked him more about swords (stuff he is interested in) to get him to open up and drop the “I don’t know” bit.
what would you ask about a sword beyond what they said? it wasn’t even used in the murder.
@@HazeLmao well …he was completely shut down, up until that point. Then his ego forces him to correct the investigator. Again after the investigator moves of that topic he shuts down. The investigator may have been able to get him talking by manipulating his ego, asking questions and talking a little about things he was interested in.

Why were the detectives always saying that Lauren's missing, even though her torso has been already found?
Do they still want to find the rest of her corpse or what?
Wasn't confirmed to be her at that time
This is the best one by far
The theory at the end is chilling. It's almost like Stephen won in the end
Normalize not talking to investigators even if you're innocent
especially if youre guilty*
The best thing to do as soon as you step one foot in a police station (innocent or not) is to ask for a lawyer and if you live in a country where detectives have a right to question you for a certain amount of time without legal representation use your right to remain silent, silence can not be used as evidence of be guilty. Don't even say a peep, police will talk for hours for as long as they can keep you and are looking for an opening. You give them more and more openings the more you speak.
The redshirt detective had me laughing alot.

Great video
That detectives chair is the true hero of the story
Did he really think no one would find her? He even made multiple pieces to make it easier
As someone who has been in a similar position to Stephen (FOR MUCH SMALLER INFRACTIONS), it's easy to say as an outsider, "Oh I would have fooled that detective, this dude's a dum dum." But when you know you did it, you get paranoid that they know more than you, and they play on that, works every time because they know you'll go hard on the defensive instead of someone who might be innocent that would say, "Are you accusing me?" You guys already know that someone who is innocent is gonna be calm and collected most of the time, someone who is guilty usually isn't. But what do I know I'm just some dude on the internet lol.
Yeah you’re wrong about that lol. Which is surprising considering this is the exact concept JCS tries to teach. Generally the innocent will ask aggressively are you accusing me? (Like you said) Why do you think I did it? They’re more worried about the situation at hand and won’t try to distract from the subject (Stephanie Lazarus) Guilty people will generally try to act calm, like nothing is upsetting them, which a lot of time makes no sense like chris watts trying to act normal when he should be broken - his whole family just disappeared and he’s trying his best to look fine
these are good!

Haha.. once I worked around this dude that was super hot but if he would reach up his shirt would lift up and you could see his undies.. I noticed on more than one occasion he was wearing the same undies more than 1 day in a row.. although he was so attractive he could probably wear the same undies for a whole year and they'd still be fresh. 🤣
