Female detectives in interrogations are strategically placed. Male detectives don’t take the lead because females can’t do it. They take the lead because male suspects are usually more comfortable speaking to a male. Female detectives usually say little for most of the interrogation but their mere presence is sometimes enough to keep suspects on edge. Then, as we saw in this video, they are more effective at appealing to the suspect’s emotions or for drawing sympathy back to the victim or the victim’s family. The female detective in this video started off not saying anything. So when she spoke and called the suspect out on his lie, it was that much more impactful. I don’t doubt that her appearance as a motherly figure begging for an answer to give to the victim’s family really weighed heavily on the suspect’s conscience. Absolutely fantastic job from both detectives and if anybody in the chat questioned why the female detective was there initially, I hope they noticed how big a role she played at the end.
