Thanks for reviewing how these work together. It’s the missing link for my lawn edges where the whipper snippet just doesn’t cut as well as the cylinder mower.
@@thelionlawn my mate in Victoria showed me his Stihl version, but since I’ve already started with Ryobi gear, I was searching for this option. Thanks again. Best Wishes for Christmas.
How well would it do at the corners on 11:25 ? Where the brick meets the wood. Seems it would be difficult to get the grass right in the corner due to the round shape of the scissors.
Yeah, corners are tricky. The only way I've worked out to do it, is pop the head on its side like a knife edge, and run it along the edging to the corner, and then along the brickwork to the corner, and then walk it out from the corner while still on it's edge. It isn't perfect, but gets most of the grass that way. 👍
My 40v was so hot started smoking. I said ahh what the hell lets send it. Managed to finish the lawn. Figured I’d really push it to test warranty. But ryobi is not going to last by any means
Wow that's crazy. How long was it running for? I've done my yard every week for the past year, and used it pretty intensely at another property on some thick overgrown flooded areas, and it's not missed a trick.
Hi mate, when I got mine, the 36v was the only Ryobi that had been tested and confirmed. I'm not sure if they've got a collar for the 18v yet or not. Perhaps have a look at the Yard Empire website and get in touch with them to confirm if they've had anyone test the 18v? Best of luck. 👍
Do you know if the rotary scissors will work with the 18v ryobi straight shaft trimmer. I've gone the 18v route with my garden tools but haven't seen anyone online mention attaching it to the 18v trimmer, only 36v.
Do you mean the scissor? Or the battery/powerhead? The scissor part gets a little warm from friction, but I wouldn't say hot. And the powerhead doesn't get any warmer than it normally would running the whipper snipper or edger attachment.
I'm not sure mate. The petrol model isn't on the list of "tested models" at Yard Empire website (formally OTP). But I'm sure they would know. yardempire.com.au maybe get in touch with Jason and see if he can point you in the right direction. 🤙
Excellent! I saw OTP posted on their Instagram last night or the night before that they now can provide a tube of grease for use with it, so maybe have a look there. Otherwise, perhaps a lighter gearbox grease from Supercheap/Repco would be the ticket! 👍
I'm sure it would run it, but how efficiently I don't know. I run the 36v at sort of half to 3/4 speed on the trigger and it still chews through a battery pretty quickly. I'm not sure if the 18v is on the list of tested models on the Old Time Parts website, but I'm sure Jason could let you know. It's a big investment for it not to work, that's all.
@@iangrogan5261 I'm not sure mate. I don't have an 18v one any more to compare it against. The fact that they don't appear on the tested models list would suggest they're different, but I couldn't be sure.
@@thelionlawn I just meant in the vid you said they were from Sydney haha. Yeah mate, want to start posting other things like digital art and gaming stuff on here too instead of just all lawn stuff. Hopefully some content soon 🤞🏻
Oh man! So I did. I didn't even pick up on the fact that I said that. Odd, because I know they aren't in Sydney, seeing as I had to get it shipped to me. Lol. What a dope.
I bought one due to your video and a few others on UA-cam. Worth every penny and then some
Awesome - Glad to hear! 🤙

It 100% makes all the difference when you're cutting the rest of the lawn with a cylinder. Glad the video was of some help. 🤙

wondering if this would be able to be attached to just the 'expandit extender (to save money and waste for buying an expandit attachment
I'm not sure, to be honest. Might be worth a look to see if the end of the extender has the capability to fit the correct collar?
THOSE ROTARY BLADES ARE VERY EXPENSIVE, NOISY, SLOW. AND HOW YOU SHARP THEM BY HAND?
Thanks bro!
Ryobi should develop this product. It looks very powerful than stupid string..
I emailed them twice about 2 years ago asking them to make it, as it makes sense to add to the lineup. No response 😔
damn oldtimeparts is now a shoe shop...
😂 They've had a name change since this video. Try Yardempire.com.au 🤙
mustve got a good offer from the shoe guys! i really want one of these, just hard to justify the almost $500 for it@@thelionlawn

I just got one for the same trimmer and the trimmer started to overheat at about 5 minutes of use. Not sure it’s gonna work out.
Wish Dewalt had rotary scissors attachment
I'd like to see more brands bring rotary scissors into their lines, for sure. It's such a great tool for edging.
Will this work with 18V battery powered trimmer?

Hi mate, I'm not sure unfortunately. I know Yard Empire/Old Time Parts only list the 36v as tested.
Hey mate does it get hot mine gets quit warm using a milwaukee

@@thelionlawn Ahh great, will get that one. cheers mate!
Can anyone compare this to rotary scissors from EGO? Are those from EGO as durable when edging and pulling them through dirt?
My Ryobi smelled of burning grease. I don’t think there is enough torque coming from the 40 volt.
Yikes, that's interesting. Mine hasn't done that. Seems to be fine on my 36v.
I like to use one but can't get it in malaysia.
Have you check with Old Time Parts to see if they ship internationally? They may do?
What are your thoughts on running the idech head on an 18v ryobi? I’ve got all the 18v gear and don’t really want to start getting 36v tools.
