Okay - we added this dish to our menu at Buddha Cafe in Japan. We added Sake cooking wine and for the side we use Kale and Spinach. Thanks to your Grandma!!!

When I was young children weren't allowed on the kitchen that was at both of my grandparents home.
That was back when children were served after the men.

I know the feeling, my grandma I really loved I wasn't allowed to be around very much(dad's mom).y mom's mom never wanted me around so I learned to cook in Home Economics in school but they sure never taught Chinese or Asian cooking, lol. They did spark my enthusiasm for cooking tho. I especially love Chinese, Asian and Peruvian cooking.

Your recipes are great. The best thing about them is how simple they are. I used drumsticks (and a bit longer time) for this recipe and it was perfect. I also removed the chicken and added potatoes to the liquid and cooked some more. Yummy.

Julia and the "Joy of Cooking" and later Jacque were my inspirations to learn how to cook. Forget about mother and grandmother little to no domesticity and nurturing in both women. Your grandmother was well educated in raising and guiding your Mom and passed all her wisdom down to you. My motto came from Confucius, "When the student is ready the teacher will appear." You are becoming my latest teacher in cooking plus you and Dude as spiritual inspirers.

I loved the Bugs Bunny reference- that always used to kill me as a kid- that, and when someone got whacked on the head and make those big lumps come up and the little birdies fly around tweeting. Thanks for sharing your Grandma's recipe. It's so important to remember and love and honor those who have gone before us and who helped shape us. She would be proud of you.

So funny about the chewing My Uncle Frank who was Chinese and German always made us chew 26 times before swallowing. That just made me reminisce about a wonderful man who always made me see the world in a different way. I miss him dearly. In many ways Dude reminds me of him. Looks like him glasses and all. The kind voice and the sense of humor. Most importantly an awesome wife. On a side not I am on a Ketoish food journey to manage my Diabetes so I love the adaptability of your meals. I sub out the cornstarch and sugar with low carb counterpoints so I get to enjoy the flavors and don't feel like I'm sacrificing great meals. Thank you

Saw this recipe in Flo's book and going to try it this weekend. Love simple, straightforeward, no fuss recipes. Grandma and mom always cooked the best (usually). I would have tossed in the ginger slices, love to eat the ginger as part of the vegetable component of the meal. Jaques Pepin!!!, his books played a huge part in my culinary education many years ago.

I have been watching your channel for sometime but never really tried any of the dishes because I don't have an Instapot. Last year I became single again, and having 2 jobs to survive, I had to figure out how to cook food that would last until my next day off. The solution I found was the Aroma rice cooker that had slow cooker functions. For about a year, I cook while I sleep.
Recently I passed by Walmart to buy ink for my printer and I saw a baby Instapot. I wanted to buy but I keep asking myself, how to use it??? For old school seniors, technology is not a welcoming thought LoL
Anyways, today I just can't help watch you prepare your Grandma's soy sauce chicken (last night I watched your video on steamed egg with minced pork). I really wanted to try the steamed egg but we didn't have minced pork (drats!). Chicken was on sale so Grandma's soy sauce chicken it shall be.
To my surprise, I didn't need an instapot to prep this dish (I was listening keenly as you described how your own grandma would cook). The verdict, its SO YUMMY!!!!!! I am actually having it now. Thank you very much for sharing this recipe. This will now be a staple in my kitchen. Not only did I find something different to eat that tastes so good, I have something new to share with my very close friends here in Missouri.

The sugars and proteins from the sauce and chicken does tend to "hard glaze" the bottom of the pot. So, a little water always helps. Bourbon would add some sweet, caramel like flavour, too. Even chicken stock if one wants. Your recipe is soooooooooooooo good, too!

Tip: to deglaze the bottom of the pot with onions, just add a pinch of salt to make them sweat more and add a tablespoon of water or chicken stock, then scrape with a wodden spatula. Works perfectly for me when I sear chicken like you did. 😊

Looks yummy! Was *so* looking forward to "The Taste" today 'cause this recipe looked especially yummy - maybe it was that "onion sauce", 'cause I do so love onions. Didn't see your poll, but I'm all in for Asian inspired recipes - after all, it is your and Dude's heritage and what better way to learn a cuisine that from someone that has been exposed to it all their life! 😊 Besides the Instant Pot recipes, I'd also be interested in different stir-fry recipes and stand-alone Asian vegetable recipes. I've always had a couple of Asian type meat recipes that I've used, but never knew what to serve as a complimentary vegetable.

I do mine differently, I poach my chicken, bone in too for additional flavours. But I would also prefer a bit more spices like adding shallots, green onions, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, bay leaf, some sort of peppercorn, rock sugar, wine for an intenser flavour. Though I understand the you prefer more simple cooking! But you should give these ingredients a try. If you guys don't enjoy some of those flavours don't use all.
