Honestly I’m a Superman fan, I’m not like a SUPER FAN but I like Superman. I’m looking forward to the movie. I like the suit and don’t have any problems with it.
I like Superman frowning here. A lot of times, people don’t understand that Clark has a deep sadness inside of him. He loves what he does and always puts a smile on his face, but there is a deep rooted sadness in him because he still doesn’t know who he is. That’s the struggle of Superman: he is a man of 2 different worlds. He struggles to find his identity. I think that’s a theme this movie is really trying to explore, which is why it was revealed this way. He’s always smiling and has great joy helping the people of metropolis, but in those quiet moments when he’s by himself, deep in thought, there is a sadness in him. Superman is optimistic and shows that everything will be ok to the public, but inside of Clark there is a sadness that he doesn’t show as Superman.

Let's not forget the scene in Reeve's first movie where he leaps out a window as Clark and his clothes literally fade away and the full Superman suit immediately replaces it all on camera. This happened and then there's the scene where he goes into the phone booth as Clark and comes out in full suit. It doesn't matter whether he has it on under the clothes or not. All that matters is the top part for some kind of iconic ripping the shirt open shot showing the S.
Perfect picture. Its like an under construction clipart. Supes is shown but hes still holding back u til its time for a REAL unveiling. Shows confidence in what they have
I do love the *idea* behind the reveal photo. Yes, we could’ve gotten a more standard/generic reveal picture of a shirt rip or him holding something heavy, that’s always cool, but the idea behind this one has more of a story and a peek inside who this Superman will be in the DCU. This image features a quiet moment that we never really see of a very human and down to earth Superman suiting up and putting his boots on one foot at a time, just like us, getting ready to head to work for the day except he’s not headed to the office or school, he’s doing something larger than life! I LOVE that. Great video Boba!
I'm pretty confident this is just a BTS pic of David putting on the suit in a chair that Gunn snapped a pic of and just photoshopped some placeholder background in there to make it look cinematic. I'm not even confident that the suit will look like that post production. Pretty sure there's gonna be more marketing pictures coming later with the clean suit that's been touched up.
Don’t forget that due to Superman’s super speed, this image only lasted 0.00001 seconds. In the next half-second, Supes was long gone and flying towards his destination.
I think the costume being less formfitting is definitely intentional. Superman is humble, he is strong but he is also meek. It reminds me a lot of some Allstar Superman shots where the cape is covering his shoulders to downplay his size.
For the people that don’t like the heavy armor-ish look, fair enough. I was kinda hoping for more of a cloth based dcu akin to batfleck’s look. But for all the people worried about all the folds and ill fittedness, he’s sitting down, it’s not a scene from the film, it’s all in camera. It’s gonna look loads better in the film.
As someone who wears multiple layers of clothing of different thickness it is definitely absolutely possible for Clark to hide that suit under his Clark Kent attire
At this rate, James Gunn might as well claim that HIS Superman is autistic, for thinking it's ok for a grown man to wear pampers over his pants out in public. 😂
I like the way you listen; those who don't love it are fans too. That being said, some people are cruel to even sincere, forthcoming artists. I remember how people speak of authors they even value. Once Neil Gaiman felt compelled to remind fans George RR Martin is not your "whipping boy." In the suits defense, rather than a cliche, this is a novel, unique way to present the man. He reminds me of someone who, while bulked up, while in a world of perfect forms, like the Authority, this offers contrast - maybe the other heroes are slick, camera-ready - maybe (all conjecture) this is Superman as someone who could be one of us. I am glad he is off Mt. Olympus. That is one, one, elegant factor: Clark was raised by lovely, ordinary people. Maybe this man could be envisioned as a friend. The context? Uncertain. The design - absolutely like. I don't worry about creases. I want it to be clothing. It is a throwback, not cheap. The budget is high; these are choices, choices many may find they like.
I do expect that James will show a couple of more pics. A full frontal view with him standing or floating and one from the back showing off the symbol on the cape.
Fandom will never be universally content. And some people are just angry and bitter and can’t be bothered to give things a bit of thought. Did anyone consider that the suit is not done up in the back and therefore sagging up front? Did it not occur to people that he may have just been in battle and once again has to go out even though he hasn’t had a chance to clean it? This is very humanizing of a character that too often is depicted as more than human. People seem to have a preconceived notion that this character is supposed to somehow be always shiny and bright. As for the imagery in the background, the movie hasn’t been filming long, so I doubt that’s something actually in the movie. He wasn’t presenting the ideal Superman, he was presenting the human Superman. The man! Also, we might be seeing something that will be happening in superspeed.
If Batman was introduced like this fans would love it. Superman is putting on his suit and getting ready for battle. I would hope he is not smiling with the world in danger. People need to get a life.
For those of you wondering "why reveal the suit now?" They've kinda been clear about it if you just infer a bit. When asked about the suit reveal, we've had answers like, "soon enough, but not too soon." which could be vague, but it could also be something you say if you know the specific date is a few months off, but not this month or this week. Seems to me James Gunn has his own "hype slate" so to speak. "how many weeks can i go before i show any new content from the film? How long are they willing to wait for new info before they lose interest? How much is too much? I definitely need to space these out perfectly between now and the release date" I believe every reveal has a date. I believe he has a calendar marked with different Threads and Twitter Q&A days. With that in mind, i think he's gonna let us stew on this suit reveal for a bit before giving us new shots. If any. he could be thinking " the trailer will clear up any confusion about how it looks once I'm ready to reveal it."
Not what i was expecting, i really like the boots they are vibrant, i was expecting everything to be alot more vibrant for some reason 🤔 i actually dont have a problem with the pose or backdrop, i remain hopeful that the look of metropolis will blow us all away, i hope they can make it look a bit like the original superman and justice league cartoons
I like the suit. I dont love it but im definitely a fan. One thing id like to point out is the while henry cavill is very jacked his suits visibly have in built muscles in the suit too. This suit doesnt seem to have them built in.
Here's how I made sense of the picture: I could imagine that in a previous moment, Superman was out and about, doing the good that he can do, and after he did his best to absorb an attack that left battle damage on his suit, Superman was dissuaded and urged out by someone of power and merit, causing Supes to strongly second-guess his own beliefs, standards, and ideals (like everyone else's propensity to kill villains and perps in this universe versus Superman's standard of doing what he can to save everyone, including the villains and perps if possible) - maybe even with innocent bystanders agreeing against Superman, adding to reasons why Superman leaves the vicinity. Later on yet soon enough, a battle ensues between other super powered individuals within Superman's vicinity (Like out his window as pictured here), and Superman decides to "stick to his guns"/ideals and core beliefs. We then capture this moment here in this picture, where Superman suits up in a battle damaged suit, getting ready to go out and handle the situation in accordance with his beliefs and ideals, possibly thinking to himself "I'm going to do the right thing because it's the right thing to do - even if no one agrees with me". This way, we have an example of a Superman who is quite powerful, but is ideologically challenged to step forward in the ways he believes to be right, honest, and true - and thank goodness that he does so for the benefit of "us" all. If not, I have no idea why Superman would be putting on his boot with such a serious face while sitting in a high-rise building in a battle damaged suit with energy-based action happening pretty much right outside the window...
@@TheSsjJoker Isn't it ironic that a major criticism of Snyder's version of Superman is still personified in this picture though? Somber, moppy, relatable.
It’s not always Snyder fans for the most part tho. People who LOVE James and who are excited ab the DCU and comic book movie fans alike are completely disappointed with the suit.
@@TheCamBeardthat wasn’t the criticism. The criticism was that Zack did not devote enough time to Clark being Superman. He did not offset Clark’s internal struggle with him helping Metropolis Fire Department or saving a cat from a tree. Clark was not BEING Superman in his film and Snyder has explained why. He hates Superman and originally signed on as a one for them type deal. He has stated multiple times that he views Superman stopping to help a child in need as cringey. He literally just wanted him to be a depressed blunt instrument thrown at the CGI villain.
Superman fans: Omg Superman is so cool! He can fly multiple times the speed a light, easily bench press neutron stars, perceive time in zeptoseconds, beat evil gods etc. Also Superman fans: How. The. F^CK. is he gonna hide that colar under his shirt?!?
i saw a comment on youtube and they were saying that the “baggier” suit might not be worn under his work clothes. and he eventually realizes that he’ll need to make changes to make it more convenient instead of having to change every time someone needs help. so he’ll eventually have a more skin tight suit
I think this photo maybe shows what the movie will be about. Superman starts off in the movie feeling like he's one of many superheroes...he takes his time putting on the suit, perhaps because the kame kame ha deep down is being handled by authority. But at the end of the movie, he will find the spark that turns him into SUPERMAN and will become the luminous hero we already know and love. The lower part of his body is illuminated and the upper part is darkened... from damage from previous fights. That gives the message that his roots, his values are what we know, but we will see his conflicted heart in this film and how he will find a way to heal and grow.
I agree with the image being an odd choice on how to reveal the suit (pose, dirty suit, lighting, background etc.), but James Gunn HAD to have known this and still chose to release it as is for a reason, and he more than anyone knows fans were to going to over-analyze the hell out if it. I'm still not crazy about the suit, but it can easily change/evolve in future films if not the end of this film. The dumbest thing I saw on twitter was someone complaining about the way he's putting his boots on being too "feminine" and that Superman would not need to "lower" himself by sitting down to put on his shoes like regular people. That just shows me that Superman's image of a hyper-masculine godlike figure has been too ingrained by how he's been represented the last decade. If creasing and his putting on his boots "one shoe at a time" is any indication that James Gunn will show how Superman is also just Clark Kent, a regular good man born and raised in Kansas, then I'm all for it, I just want a good Superman film.
The suit makes him look skinny. Brandon Routh had the same problem with his suit. Routh was actually buffer than he looked without the suit but the suit made him look skinnier. This suit looks like it has the same problem with Corenswet. It is so ridiculous to give a padded suit to an heavy armor suit to an indestructible character. Christopher Reeve’s suit was flexible and comfortable and you can see how big Reeve’s real muscles were. Not every superhero suit needs to be armor.
Hey Boba. You mentioned that you're colorblind. Forgive my ignorance, but I've heard different explanations of what that exactly entails. Do you NOT perceive certain colors only, or is it all in tones of black/white or grey? How does it affect your ability to accurately judge color schemes on for example, a Superman suit? I'm very curious. As always, great video.
We live in the age when people are online more than in real life and analysing every small detail or possible easter egg on the picture. I saw the picture yesterday, looked at it for a moment and moved on. I am big fan of DC comics and movies (or comics in general) but I don't need to spend whole day looking and thinking about this one picture. Let the man cook. Now seriously, I do like the reveal picture, it makes Superman feel more like a man than a "super". I don't mind or worry about creases or baggines of the suit which might be due to pose or material usednfor the suit. It's not every day we see battle damaged suit so it is completely fine to me (considering what is going on behind that window). Thanks Boba for another great video, you became my go-to youtuber in all things comics related due to your analytic approach. Keep it up and see you in the next video (no pun intended 😅)
The "baggy" top was a little concern at first... but I will wait to see the suit in action before I make any judgement. That said, David looks awesome as superman!
I love this suit and I love the pose. It’s so human and I appreciate this element given part of the discussion of “legacy” being Kryptonian and raised human.
1: lines are really only visible when dirty 2: the collar should have red trim 3: the symbol looks great it only looks a little orange in some lightings from the shot james released i would rate it 7.5 out of 10 but in this video where he is standing up i think its a 9.7
Proof that a 'Picture paints a thousand words'. The marketing team, and Gunn would be LOVING all of the chat surrounding this ONE image, like Birds chasing crumbs off a cafe' table.
It's crazy that every poll that I have seen with thousands of votes show that most like the suit itself. And I myself like the suit. However, while it's not a big deal I absolutely was expecting something a little more heroic and cleaner.
I get what your saying but I think the idea is despite what he goes through physically and emotionally and whatever world ending threat to some mundane thing like saving a cat out of a tree He will always put on that Suit
@TheSsjJoker Yea the pic is basically art that is telling you a story. James Gunn is trying to tell us something about the movie; which I appreciate. However, even with that knowledge; this wasn't the best pic to use as a suit reveal. The idea of a suit reveal is so you can see the best version of the suit before someone gets a terrible shot of the suit and put it all over social media.
I think most are just okay with it. Every “Im not sure how to feel, I wanna see it in action,” translates to “I’m not feeling it at the moment but hopefully this is just a bad photo” I honestly think it’s terrible. An acceptable design but there’s too many detail lines and the worst part is how ill-fitted it is. Reminds me of Andrew Garfields first spidey suit tbh (trying too hard to be original while staying recognizable)
@young9869that doesn't deny the clear consensus that a lot of the criticisms are coming from washed up Snyder fans Before we can move forward we have to notice that some people just aren't worth our time
I like it, wasn’t a big fan of the lines until I looked at the New 52 Suit again. Idk why they chose the pose but the idea that he’s taking his time is kinda crazy to me. It’s a still image he could be moving a million minutes a second we just got the glimpse of him putting his shoes on
The thing in the background is probably Guy Gardner fighting a villain. Superman is basically clocking back into work. He isn’t showing urgency because it’s an average Monday and he knows he’s got this.
I’m all for suspension of disbelief but you don’t want to strain credulity. That’s one thick looking suit and if he’s supposed to be wearing all that underneath his work attire… that’s a stretch
@baronbayne9899 why would be wear it underneath his work attire? what you said is what we are used to but its dumb because even if superman wear this suit underneath his clothes again he has to rush home to pick his boots so its better to pick all the suit together with the boots at same time and not to wear it underneath his working clothes
Also, as someone who’s been to Cleveland a few times my guess is they are using their tallest skyscraper there for the daily planet, it’s very old and art deco-ish, it’s very Fleischer-esk If you google it you’ll see what I’m talking about I think it would be great
By no means do I think this’ll happen… but my theory brain says the suit is loose looking because maybe in the film he starts loosing a fight, ends up on space, takes in the power of the sun, his muscles grow, and then the suit ends up being the more skin tight look most of us hoped for. He’s already SUPER jacked and fit af, but you get my point.
Its a reinterpreted version of an Alex Ross painting. Fans are not used to looking up Superman stuff. Get ready because James Gunn puts so much comic book lore into his universes.
Honestly the more I look at this suit the more I like it. I think we just have to wait to get a better look at it. I was initially indifferent about Robert Pattinson’s Batman suit but then it grew on me and I ended up loving it.
I think that's a beam hitting Guy Gardner in a bubble of green power from his ring or he is making it from the clouds, you can clearly see a green beam as well. It looks nothing like a ship of any kind or Solaris, the energy is wrapping around it. It might also be why Superman is here and not fighting, because the other heroes are battling right now and he's getting ready to jump in and help.
I mean if you felt like you were the last one in the world who didn’t see kindness as old fashioned wouldn’t you assume that person feels isolated at times. I mean his secret hideout is literally called the fortress of solitude. Superman having human moments is a good thing for the new universe and this photo is stark contrast to the Henry cavill Superman reveal.
of course it looks baggy he's bending that what's suits do when you bend example:when your wearing a perfect fitting shirt and you bend over to grab something what's it do...it bags up
I'm not a fan of the collar and the way it looks like a thicker wetsuit. The way the cape attaches to the shoulders also doesnt look that great - it feels like it's just a thick material sewn in and it doesnt sit nicely and flow off his shoulders in a nice, elegant way. I also don't like the unnecessary detailing with the lines on the suit. All this being said, its one photo and Im sure it'll look better in others. But this is the first photo and I don't love it as much as I was hoping.
The reveal is actually genius by Gunn, it tells you a lot about the movie, he will be face will something that drains him to the point his suit doesn’t fit properly anymore but he has to fight through it, that’s why his eye brows were dyed, but him being who he is will still go out and do his job, something we haven’t seen before, I’d bet money on it, can’t wait

@@damien1781wow you really didn’t have to do the dude dirty like that lol.
Yeah I definitely wanna see more angles of the suit
Awesome comment!
Superman is quick. Its not like he would be putting on his boots and suit slowly like a regular human. This would be a blink to a human eye.
If Batman was introduced like this fans would love it. Superman is putting on his suit and getting ready for battle. I would hope he is not smiling with the world in danger. People need to get a life.
I feel vibes from Superman quest for peace, when nuclear man scratched his neck and made him sick
For those of you wondering "why reveal the suit now?"
They've kinda been clear about it if you just infer a bit.
I definitely need to space these out perfectly between now and the release date"
I believe every reveal has a date.
Feels like this picture is part of a series of shots, I expect us to get more pics from Superman and the other heroes in the upcoming days.
Given the background they should have pic on him repping of shirt reveling the suit
I trust James Gunn with alien superhero stories
Here's how I made sense of the picture:
I could imagine that in a previous moment, Superman was out and about, doing the good that he can do, and after he did his best to absorb an attack that left battle damage on his suit, Superman was dissuaded and urged out by someone of power and merit, causing Supes to strongly second-guess his own beliefs, standards, and ideals (like everyone else's propensity to kill villains and perps in this universe versus Superman's standard of doing what he can to save everyone, including the villains and perps if possible) - maybe even with innocent bystanders agreeing against Superman, adding to reasons why Superman leaves the vicinity.
It doesn't really matter because Snyder fans would hate regardless, unfortunately.
Sadly yes, god forbid we get a Superman who acts like Superman and not acting like a mopey guy all the time
They are irrelevant. They should go enjoy his trash Rebel Moon Netflix films.
I absolutely love it & fully believe this movie will be the best DC film since 2022s The Batman
Never a ramble, Boba! Keep'em coming! Inhave no theory at this time. Just straight anticipation! Lfg!
Yes, I agree on your feedback. They must reveal Superman like a powerful superhero pausing like flying or smiling or standing.
Can’t wait ! This movie is going to be sick !!! Gunn knows what he’s doing !!!
Suit is awesome
i saw a comment on youtube and they were saying that the “baggier” suit might not be worn under his work clothes. and he eventually realizes that he’ll need to make changes to make it more convenient instead of having to change every time someone needs help. so he’ll eventually have a more skin tight suit
It could be that honestly Ma Kent supposedly made it, so either he or Ma makes him a improved one or going with the all star Superman villain theory
Other than the trunks, this suit is exactly what i was hoping for.
As always, great video.
the padding makes it looks like came out from Marvel costume designer
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is not his only suit for the movie.
@hectorm6054 that is what i also think
love ur contents boba. Even if its just dicussions or analysis about the same topic again and again. Always fun to listen to you when Im at work haha
The background are not cg, its a prop that the image are printed on and that are lighted as seen by the neon lights.
The "baggy" top was a little concern at first... but I will wait to see the suit in action before I make any judgement. That said, David looks awesome as superman!
I love this suit and I love the pose. It’s so human and I appreciate this element given part of the discussion of “legacy” being Kryptonian and raised human.
1: lines are really only visible when dirty
2: the collar should have red trim
3: the symbol looks great it only looks a little orange in some lightings
from the shot james released i would rate it 7.5 out of 10 but in this video where he is standing up i think its a 9.7
also it look good when the rubble and dirt was off of it:)
Looks good. New 52 + traditional trunks + Kingdom Come S
Very true boba clarity ain’t hiding a cape and boots under his clothes lol didn’t even think about that
Proof that a 'Picture paints a thousand words'. The marketing team, and Gunn would be LOVING all of the chat surrounding this ONE image, like Birds chasing crumbs off a cafe' table.
The suit is a combination of different generations if you’re unhappy, stay unhappy. ANYWAY #RiseDCU THAT SUIT LOOKS AMAZING
I believe that's Solaris in the background 👁️🔥
crazy how the leaks for the costume design was accurate
It's crazy that every poll that I have seen with thousands of votes show that most like the suit itself. And I myself like the suit. However, while it's not a big deal I absolutely was expecting something a little more heroic and cleaner.
I get what your saying but I think the idea is despite what he goes through physically and emotionally and whatever world ending threat to some mundane thing like saving a cat out of a tree
He will always put on that Suit
@TheSsjJoker Yea the pic is basically art that is telling you a story. James Gunn is trying to tell us something about the movie; which I appreciate.
However, even with that knowledge; this wasn't the best pic to use as a suit reveal. The idea of a suit reveal is so you can see the best version of the suit before someone gets a terrible shot of the suit and put it all over social media.
Looks like the guardian of the galaxy suits with a Superman sign on it
Well what’d you expect when coming from the director who did the GOTG Trilogy?
@@sammontanez6908 looks bad for superman tho
They might as well throw the wholw movie away if they use nanotech to suit him up bro
Thanks For new Superman Suit video
Thank you too!
Thanks for the video Boba!
My pleasure!
It's funny because most people like it
And that’s what matters
honestly people hated Pattinson suit when it was shown than later in the trailer and movie in motion looked amazing
That's not true..
Most people hate it. Nice job Gunnbot
@wa-bu3ke - How’s uhh.. how’s Rebel Moon doing? 💀
I think most are just okay with it. Every “Im not sure how to feel, I wanna see it in action,” translates to “I’m not feeling it at the moment but hopefully this is just a bad photo”
I honestly think it’s terrible. An acceptable design but there’s too many detail lines and the worst part is how ill-fitted it is. Reminds me of Andrew Garfields first spidey suit tbh (trying too hard to be original while staying recognizable)
Ngl that gotham part had me dying 😭😭😭
I just want to know if Superman wears sox in those boots. I don't even want to think what those babies smell like after a day of work.
😂
He doesn't sweat though lol.
This could be a suit his mother made, I wouldn’t expect it to be perfect if thats the case.
Let's see it in action. These are not Superman fans, these are snyder fans.
That's an easy way to dismiss valid, subjective opinions. - From a fellow Superman fan (who is incredibily underwhelmed by this reveal)
@young9869that doesn't deny the clear consensus that a lot of the criticisms are coming from washed up Snyder fans
Before we can move forward we have to notice that some people just aren't worth our time
I like it, it's like "I'm off to work Lois", a bit of tongue and cheek.
I actually like it.
He looks like how you'd imagine Superman looking in the same world/universe as the Guardians
The Suit looks like 2010's TV Show Suits
The snyders fans are devided
@astrandolouis9846
why do we even need them as they are not DC fans but "Snyderfans" they better go and watch Rebel moon
Also, as someone who’s been to Cleveland a few times my guess is they are using their tallest skyscraper there for the daily planet, it’s very old and art deco-ish, it’s very Fleischer-esk
If you google it you’ll see what I’m talking about
I think it would be great
By no means do I think this’ll happen… but my theory brain says the suit is loose looking because maybe in the film he starts loosing a fight, ends up on space, takes in the power of the sun, his muscles grow, and then the suit ends up being the more skin tight look most of us hoped for. He’s already SUPER jacked and fit af, but you get my point.
Its a reinterpreted version of an Alex Ross painting. Fans are not used to looking up Superman stuff. Get ready because James Gunn puts so much comic book lore into his universes.
For real man, people are just lazy but also overreacting
Honestly the more I look at this suit the more I like it. I think we just have to wait to get a better look at it. I was initially indifferent about Robert Pattinson’s Batman suit but then it grew on me and I ended up loving it.
The suit would be just fine, if the suit would show Supe’s muscle mass through the suit…Hopefully it looks a lot better on film
This is a pretty cool picture of Batman!
I heard a theory I like that the suits “baggy” in this picture because with the sun being blocked out he’s smaller.
I mean if you felt like you were the last one in the world who didn’t see kindness as old fashioned wouldn’t you assume that person feels isolated at times. I mean his secret hideout is literally called the fortress of solitude. Superman having human moments is a good thing for the new universe and this photo is stark contrast to the Henry cavill Superman reveal.
nooooo! not the underpant! anything, but not the f......red underpant
Superman has been wearing underpants since 1938.
I don’t have an opinion yet until I see the suit in action
Does anyone have a time frame of how soon we would potentially get a trailer???
Gunn said next year
next year around Cinemacon
of course it looks baggy he's bending that what's suits do when you bend
example:when your wearing a perfect fitting shirt and you bend over to grab something what's it do...it bags up
Amazing video
