My guess on the charging is that there is circuitry in the battery and that voltage goes into the battery and the circuitry charges each of the 2 Li Ion cells individually. If the battery voltage is 7.4V there should be 2 3.7V cells packed into that battery pack.
Looking forward to your review. The antenna is removable, there is a set screw under the rubber band at the base. The selector knob also works for Many of the menu settings, including adjusting the screen brightness.
Really helpful to know that the selector knob can adjust the menu as well , thanks for the info mate! Any idea on which antenna from retevis or sagoya would be best for longer range capability ? I’m assuming a dual band tuned for GMRS frequencies with a SMA male adapter? I want to be able to get more gain from an extended antenna and unfortunately (as the antenna is not intended to be swapped) Retevis doesn’t put out any info on the antennas that would work best , any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated ! I bought mine direct from Retevis as well. I already know that the antenna comes off. So far it seems to be a quality unit. I would be interested to find out if it can be "unlocked" . It's reception is very good as I can hear, full quieting a GMRS repeater 50 nautical miles away. I like that it's USB chargeable. The only thing I didn't care for (a normal Retevis omission- perhaps to sell the cable) is that the scanning channel selection must be done with a computer...
