You are a precious treasure of a lady!! To own up like that has all of my respect. To be transparent like that to us all, so many can learn from it and not feel so alone. You also encourage quality horsemanship even educating those who may not have even known about being overweight for their horse. You truly are a loving, compassionate, honest, and beautiful soul.
Oh my word @1daySomeday I'm not sure what to say, I am a bit speechless which is quite rare for me! Thank you so much for your kind words and know that I am both blown away and deeply humbled by them. I love my horses so very much and I don't think I could ever be without them. I've had Toby my blind horse since I was a kid and he's 44 now. Ill have to do some 'meet the herd' videos soon so I can tell you all about them. I really love making videos and if I can help people along the way then my word that would be incredible. Thank you again for your beautiful comment and I would love it if you would follow us on this journey 🐴
@@jolandameivogel9006 man i wish the fox hunters in my area would be as dear and thoughtful as others. they were banned from so many private properties for trespassing and putting their hounds at risk near the roads with surrounding traffic.
Well done, more people should be aware of this. my past horse was a 18h ID and he could manage my weight but I wanted something smaller to compete in dressage. So I bought a 16h fine warmblood mare as a rising 2 yo to produce. I have lost 3stone to ride her - one more to go until she can carry me efficiently without hindering her natural gaits and shortening her stride. it sucks but if they are polite horses they don't object but it ends in shortened gaites and later injury. intermittent fasting and keto have been my friends as middle-aged & menopausal losing weight it a biatch! you can do it :) and your mare will appreciate it x
I love this comment @LisaPanton and a huge, incredible well done for losing that amount of weight and for being so responsible for the horses in your care. Oh I do love a youngster, they are just so impressionable and they trust you so implicitly don't they ❤️❤️❤️ I'm going to be 43 next month and I know I'm going to be hitting menopause not long after that! Oh my word it never ends does it!!??
Oh bless you @JuneWood-qh5py I just want to try and do the best I can and I have been beating myself up for being so stupid and letting her get so fat in the first place. ❤ Thank you so much for your lovely comment and thank you so much for watching ❤🐴❤
Well done! There are so many people who think that horses can carry any weight (and don't get me started on donkeys!). It will be so satisfying for you to ride your lovely mare again and feel the benefit of the weight loss yourself. These weight loss groups are great. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment @jeankilpatrick2438 and thank you so much for watching ❤❤❤ Oh how I wish we still had a donkey! Maybe a rescue will come up one day and bless me with one. I have started feeling better in myself but my word I have some sugar cravings that you would not believe! ❤🐴💕
Thank you for caring for your horse and putting her welfare first. I have been here before myself. After 40, we women tend to put on weight. It creeps up out of nowhere! Address hormones and try a low carb diet. The one thing that spikes in perimenopause is cortisol. As estrogen decreases our bodies are adjusting. So make sure it’s not an issue of just not watching your diet. It could be hormones. And addressing them is a game changer for managing weight past 40. I’ve been there. It is the worst to not be able to ride.
This has definitely crept on out of nowhere @3acrehomesteadin884 I wouldn't even know where to start with addressing hormone levels? I'm 43 on Monday so I've got to be hitting menopause soon. I'm dreading it! Thank you so much for commenting and for being so helpful. Hayley ❤🐴💕
Thank you for sharing this. Non-riders often forget that horses are not machines. The weight struggle for horse and rider is REAL. 😂 It sounds like you have your plan for your mare sorted out. 👍🏻 For the human diet, I can only suggest keeping things simple and prepare and portion out meals ahead. That way, especially if you are tired, you know you can just reheat what you have in the right portion and enjoy.
Oh thank you so much @KellieRudd1 you are so kind ❤❤❤ I'm so happy you think little Hope is beautiful, I think she is too. Her pet name is Dopey because she is so funny and not always on the same planet as us! Your comment has blown me away, thank you again so very much and I am so very humbled that you has subscribed to our little channel ❤❤❤
Thank you for this, I've seen other 'equestrians' who are clearly not fit enough to ride and overweight, and the horse is so overweight they have a crest, and have now developed asthma and other ailments. It's good that not only are you making this video, but you're actively doing something to get you and your pony fit, I've been going to the gym recently to get myself fit and improve my core so I can start riding again.
Can I just say a huge WELL DONE to you @geekchic3685 it is so hard to finally get yourself into the mindset of losing weight and even harder to stick at it. I am so pleased that you have subscribed to our little channel and hopefully we can lose weight together!
The weight topic in the equestrian world is obviously a touchy one…too many people don’t Look at themselves before they get on, and others are too nervous to point out a weight issue… Kudos for your bravery in bringing up the topic and using your own situation as an example. ❤ love and blessings for your journey.
Thank you so much @sammillar3561 Ive always been completely fine with 'taking things on the chin' and Id rather say it myself than have someone else say it in a comment 🙄 I think if I can use myself as an example and help people and their horses then that is surely something positive to do with my life. I absolutely love making these videos so its a win win all round for me 💕🐴❤
Thank you so much! I am very concerned about this issue and people around me think I’m nuts! I’m so glad someone has just come out and put the facts out there. It’s not rocket science but people just ignore it. They don’t WANT to know. The 20% rule IS good horsemanship 🙏 I’m going to try weight loss meds as I have never been able to successfully stick to a diet. Best of luck with WW you lovely kind lady ❤
My friend has just started on those weight loss injections and her weight is suddenly falling off! I am so happy that you have found our little channel and we can battle this weight loss journey together! I've also got a more in depth video about the 20% rule, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html
Oh my word @wallhagens2001 carbs are my downfall. I've managed to give up chocolate to a certain degree and had the shakes really bad for the first few days but no I've realised that i need brown bread! I have never even bothered with brown bread before? You are incredible for being able to kick the addiction. Gives me hope! Thank you so much for commenting and for watching :-)
Me also. Lost 85 pounds on keto. Had to learn to cook better- but have the best desserts. No sugar. I use Carolyn Ke chum for great recipes. Dr. Berg has excellent advise for this diet.
Oh @annhans3535 what an absolute legend you are! I'm definitely keeping hold of the faith even though I could happily eat an entire back of chocolate chip cookies right about now!!! Thank you so much for watching and thank you even more for commenting and making me laugh 🐴
Yes! Far too many people think that riding is the only thing you can do with horses when that simply is not true. Most of my enjoyment comes from working with my horses on the ground, bonding with them while we’re on the same eye level. Other than that taking short trips around the neighborhood in a cart is also a lot of fun and it is more lenient when it comes to weight because it is much easier to pull something than it is to carry it.
Refreshing to see someone putting their horse first. Enjoyed this first video I’ve seen . Look forward to watching both your progress. At speed you are going you will definitely be at goal before her :)
Thank you so much @carolinerowland-yn4fh to be at goal would be amazing wouldn't it. I have an 8 month membership so I feel like I'm in a bit of a race so that it doesn't go up to full price and becomes free to go! Im off to find our old cart tomorrow which I left in a field a while back. Fingers crossed it is still in a useable state so that I can put the little fatty on it! ❤
I just found your video. I just have to agree with the fact that you are a treasure and so brave to tackle this topic. I can totally relate to the concern of being too heavy for a horse. My 25 y.o. OTTB had a horrible colic and we made the decision for the last act of kindness to put him out of the agony. That was 5 years ago. Between mourning him and life circumstances I have packed on the pounds. I’m 55 and losing this weight is not easy. I’m now in a position to have a horse again, but being too fat for a horse is a huge concern for me. So thank you for taking us along on your journey. BTW, your video is so enjoyable to watch b/c of your editing skills, so kudos again 😊
Oh wow @2kblueberries thank you so very much for such an amazing comment. You really have made my day and I'm so sorry that it has taken 2 days for me to reply but I got lost in filming and editing yesterday. I actually managed to find my old cart out of a long ago field. It was backbreaking! 🤯😂 I am so sorry that you lost your horse, it is truly the most awful thing to go through and the fact that you have sole responsibility to make the decision makes you question yourself forever more doesn't it. Know that you did the right thing and just try and remember the wonderful times. I would truly love it if you would follow along on this journey with us. I know its not much just to watch a few UA-cam videos but I would really love it if we could all make a difference together. Again thank you so much. Hayley ❤️❤️❤️
Been there. It's all about habits & changing taste. Picking the right food at the store, cooking even basic from scratch. Takes a long time but once new habits are formed, the weight stats off. Besides for riding, it is so much more enjoyable to be lighter on one's feet. You'll get there, you are strong willed !
Thank you so much @fontainerouge for your incredibly positive words. The first couple of weeks has been so tough but I feel like I am getting through the really rough cravings period now. I'm not going to lie, I had the shakes after the first 3 days without chocolate! I definitely feel lighter and I am not so out of breath with is a huge bonus. Hope seems to have lost a bit too, ill have to get a weight tape on her and find out. She isn't so impressed though I don't think as she likes the easy life of just eating and sleeping! ❤❤❤
You are really brave and honest for sharing this! I totally sit in the same boat! I have a Fjord horse. I gave up riding and started driving instead. Plus for me I did a lot of dieting also when I was a kid, but no human being can successfully diet their entire life. So I made a commitment to myself never ever to diet again. Just eat what I want just less of it. Also my medication doesn't help in weightloss. Antidepressants can increase weight. Unfortunately I was always a steady 80 kilo's. Now I am 90 kilo's but steady again. No weight yo-yoing, that is ultimately a downfall for the body (moodyness, hormones peeking and being screwed up etc.), in my experience Anyway you look lovely and don't let anyone tell you otherwise all bodies are good bodies! Plus you are taking responsibility for your horses health and yourself in the way that suits you best
Thank you so much for watching @desireehubbard7337 and thank you so much for a lovely comment ❤❤❤ I'm just filming episode 6 of this series and I have to say I am loving everyone's support and how people are actually joining me on this journey! Its amazing! i think you'd really like episode 3 when I go and find my old cart ❤🐴💕 Fjord horses are incredible and a breed that I have never owned. I love the stripe! It would be amazing to have you following along with me and our little UA-cam community too ❤🐎❤
Good for you thinking of her and of yourself, for getting educated about all this, and for sharing it! In my experience what works is going easy on sugary & white-carby stuff, alcohol too; thinking of food as fuel; and moving more. The simple practice of a daily, or nearly daily, 20+ minute walk is a start that I cannot recommend more highly. The changes in how you feel start to surprise you because it kinda works behind-the-scenes. I'm 63 and feel completely differently in my body now than when I took this up 8 mos ago. I started with 30 mins, and now I go for 45 mins to an hour, 3 to 3.5 miles. That's the sweet spot for me. I've spent years when I wasn't riding for various reasons -- restarting a horse, young horse, rehabbing my own confidence -- and something I love to do with them anyway is go for trail walks, on line alongside 'riding from the ground'.
What a wonderful comment @childcrone thank you so much for sharing it. I have to say I am loving the walking at the moment. I've just scheduled my latest Too Fat to Ride episode for 6pm tonight (GMT) and you'll see we are walking at the end of that one too. My son is only 11 and we rescued a colt last Christmas which has ended up being his. His confidence just with the walking has come on ten fold which is just amazing. I am definitely feeling a lot healthier and we do about 10000 steps overall when we walk with them which must be doing some good.
Oh heavens @trippinggauntlet4520 I am beyond happy that I have popped up in your feed too! It is an absolute pleasure to have you along on this journey with us and hopefully youll get a regular horsey fix now! ❤❤❤❤❤
Oh heavens @karenmackinnon7385 its so hard though isn't it! I saw all the mince pies have started coming into the supermarkets as well and they are my kryptonite! I've got an 8 month WW membership so fingers crossed I can get the majority off in that time so I can go for free!
Oh thank you so much @gdiup9241 ❤❤❤ Yes definitely going to be putting one in but we cant do a proper one because our field gets incredibly wet! We have 3 acres so fingers crossed that we be enough. At the moment we have far too much grass plus having a track means we can spray each bit and rest it.
Great video. Very informative. I was under the care of an NHS dietitian. I did lose quite a lot with her. Dietetics have changed a lot. No longer is it go in and get weighed, cheerio, goodbye. Its now done in the style of overeaters anonymous. You have to sort all the crap going round in your head first and work out why you eat the way you do and where that comes from. In case you're wondering.. yes I am an overeater and I have food addiction. Keeping a food diary is a useful thing and being brutally honest about it. Getting support from the nurses at your doctors practice is always a good shout. The key thing I found is when you want to eat some crap is usually down to 3 things.. hunger, stress or thirst. 9 time out of ten is cos you are thirsty. Also making a trigger list helps. Everytime you have a no switch off button to a food, you put that on your list of foods you cannot have or should keep in the house. It's just the same behavior as a drug addict or an alcoholic. The key to losing weight is also to drink plenty of water. I'm down from 13 stone 4 to 11 stone 9. Doing the exercises from my physio but that's about it as I can't because I have disabilities. God bless someone like you who cares about your horses. You should raise money for a horse rescue by getting folks to sponsor you or a donation. Every pound you lose is a pound for the horse rescue charity. There is always the donkey Santuary as well. Take care now and all the best now. I will subscribe to your channel and look forward to your progress.❤❤
Yay for the track! More people should realise what a good thing this is. Your field also seems to be slanted so the up and downhill will help. Good luck with the weight journey for both of you. 🐎
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and thank you so much for watching @QueenOfArchers ❤❤❤ Your profile picture looks amazing!!! Looks like something that would be right up my street!
I hope more people see this. Well done for sticking to the facts and putting your horses welfare first. Sounds like you’re getting plenty of exercise working on your land. To make the ground work more interesting for your mare you could set up an obstacle course with cones, poles ,pedestal etc. Do travelling lunge circles to a destination and stop there for a bit. Teach her to go backwards and sideways . You could also try a bit of liberty if you have a small area to start in . All makes groundwork more fun for you both 😊
Thank you so much for you lovely comment @lydiagould3090 and I LOVE Liberty! We were doing some fun obstacle courses in the field earlier in the year but it all went a bit pear shaped after spending far too much time on fixing things than actually doing horsey things! Its crazy how time just runs away from you isn't it!
Ditch the tack. Start by riding in the field with a head collar. You will feel better. Your horse will be moving. It will help motivate you to eat proper food and de-stress. I don't know what it's like where you are but walkinh out with your horse, jogging with him trotting, may sound hard work but with him trotting along with you it's fun, not at all like setting off to exercise alone. As you lose weight, start riding with tack as often as you can. Feel good about yourself and it will become easier. Detoxing from sugars is hard. Grapes for women are not the best fruit. Don't take short cuts they don't work. I wish you all the best. Keep smiling.
I have started taking Ozempic, and I've lost 1.5 stone in 4 weeks. It is really worth it. If you get in touch with Juniper, they give an over the phone consultation. They then send a prescription to a chemist of your choice. It is not the brand name but has all the same active ingredients as the branded one. I am so happy with it. Good luck. I know how difficult it is to lose it.
@wendydavies1301 Just be sure to have a regular strength program, and follow it. A friend is related to a scientist who is involved in Ozempic research. She believes it's amazing, and mostly safe, BUT the biggest problem is muscle loss. If you lose muscle, you get tired faster, move less, are more tired, and more easily injured. Skinnier, but less healthy all around. They found doing simple strength exercises- no gym needed if that's not your thing- offsets the muscle loss.
Thank you so much for commenting @wendydavies1301 and @Kelly_Ben it means the world to be when people help and give me advice. I get really scared of taking medications because I have ADHD and am medicated for that. Some things have really adverse reactions to it which I try to avoid if possible. My friend has started on Ozempic this week and she has lost half a stone in 3 days 😲 I didn't even know that was possible?
I really don't know about your weight as I live in the US and we have different measurements as you possibly know. But I do appreciate what you are doing to looking after your body as well as your pony. I've had weight issues over the years also and I did what you are doing so keep up the good work. Treat yourself to a short ride at a walk daily until you are happy with your weight. It will be good for the both of you mentally and physically. Best of luck !❤❤
Bless your heart for putting your horse first. I lost quite a few pounds by eating less carbs. I ate a small piece of low fat meat protein and salad. Cut out bread, ice cream, cookies etc. I watch a nutritionist named Dr. Becky Gillaspy on youtube. She has lists of food you should eat and weekly grocery lists and recipes to make. That part you pay a small fee but worth it. Lots of low carb challenges. Sounds like you are on your way. Good luck!
Oh bless you @rachael943 but I am far from that ❤ I am so very pleased that you have found our little channel and I really hope you will follow along with us on our UA-cam journey 💕🐴❤
Good luck with your health journey. Regarding everything else, I am a fairly large, fit man, weighing ~210#. I have likely been in some violation of the 20% rule with two of the horses, I've owned. Like everything, it depends on many things. How, long is the ride? How hard is the ride? Is the horse ridden every day, for most of the day? It is the last assumption that the cavalry based the 20% rule on. I've had horses over two decades. They have remained sound well into their 20's. So, if the percentage they are carrying is say, 22.5%, it is very likely that you can figure out a way to ride the horse. One of my horses is an easy keeper. What worked well for me, when he was on an irrigated pasture, is a grazing muzzle. This allowed him to graze all day, without gaining weight. I monitored him and would leave it on for a few days, and take it off for a couple, as needed.
Thank you so much for your comment @406dn7 and for watching. I think most of us have been in violation of the rule at some point in our life. I've had to jump on small ponies to get them back home when riders have been injured and helped break some that were definitely a bit small for me even when I was thin! I think it just helps to be mindful of these things doesn't it? I've been researching into the 20% rule and about the cavalry quite a bit since I started making this video and there are absolutely loads of things that affect a horses carrying capacity that I didn't even realise! I made a more educational video about it a few days ago, I'm not sure if you've seen it but here's the link if you haven't and would like to: ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html Again thank you so much for commenting and with such good advice and feedback. Hayley ❤
Oh my word @Isobel201 I never thought of that! What a fantastic idea! Thank you, Im going to get onto that straight away, I'm sure I can pick up a cob sized harness quite cheaply.
Good luck & thanks for discussing a subject many won’t. I mix up my hacks between riding & hand walking. Keeping up step for step with a forward horse is great exercise and will add to your weight loss journey. X
She can be quite forward when she's not tired, otherwise its more of a dragging step by step motion 😅 Thank you so much for your lovely comment and thank you so much for watching @ceri_noyce ❤❤❤
I love your honesty!! I don't have a weight issue with my Tennessee Walking Horse but other concerns (not a great rider) and keeping weight off him as he's insulin resistant. Best luck on your journey and I just subscribed so will happily cheer you on!!
Thank you so much for subscribing @susanchaney5059 that means such a lot to me ❤🐴❤ Oh I would love to see your horse, I bet he is absolutely beautiful! Never say you are not a great rider, you love and care for your horse and there are millions of people in the world that wouldn't have a clue if they suddenly found themselves on horseback 😂😊❤ Again thank you sooooo much for subscribing and hopefully the videos will get better and better ❤
I am so happy to see this video. There is a TikToker that put a video out there because she was denied access to ride a horse at a dude ranch due to the 20% rule. She however just made the video as them fat shaming her. Unfortunately, social media bought her story, because they know nothing about horses and they went and yelp bombed the dude Ranch and took their five star rating down to a one star rating. I don’t think people ever think about the fact that a horse can only carry so much weight. They just assume it’s a horse and that you can put any amount of weight on them. Bravo for this very educational video. I also feel that chocolate is the only food group too😂😂😂 I have been dieting myself and have lost 18lbs. I am using my net diary app and my Fitbit. The net diary app keeps me honest and it’s very easy to track everything you eat on it because it can scan the barcodes of everything you eat and so far I have not found one food that is not in there. It tells me how many calories I can have a dayin order to lose the weight. I am 6 pounds now from my goal weight. Good luck to you. It’s a hard journey, but well worth it in the end.
Oh that’s terrible that ranch had to go through that because they were looking out for their horses. I have seen places that don’t care about the horse only money that’s disgusting. Yep chocolate is my go too also 😂
Yes @Sophiecjp ! Chocolate is definitely a food group! They just need to make it zero calorie so we can live on it in peace 😂😂😂 The WW club that I go to has an app and I've been tracking absolutely everything. I cant believe how many points some of the foods are though that I always thought were healthy!!! A huge WELL DONE for almost being at goal! WOW what an achievement! I have an 8 month membership so I'm aiming to get to goal if at all possible in that time so that I don't have to pay anymore. Oh what an awful shame for the poor ranch especially when times are so difficult at the most, its awful that we live in a culture like that now. Plus you just know a load of people that have no idea about horses left terrible reviews too. Keyboard warriors!!! I'm just so glad that more and more venues are getting wise to this now and are implementing it too. I'm sure that if it was just standard practice that lots of riders would suddenly be doing something about it... or selling their horses for bigger ones!
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream that is the dream, zero calorie chocolate 😍. I am trying very hard this time to change my relationship with food. I remember sitting down one day and I was eating a cheeseburger and instead of saying this taste good. I said this feels good. I knew right then and there I was in trouble. I am using food to deal with those emotions, I don’t wanna deal with. It’s always something ain’t it.🤷♀️
I bet there is a local girl or boy or adult somewhere local that would love to have the opportunity to ride your mare on a regular basis. That would help to get your mare back in shape with a lower weight rider at first and give you a chance to get back to a weight that is better for you and your horse. I know where you are coming from. I stopped riding for years due to my weight but have recently started up again after losing 160lbs with the assistance of weight management medication. I know that's not for everyone, but it has changed my life. I am now within the normal weight range for the first time since I was 8 years old. It's obvious that you care deeply for your horses. Good luck to you! ❤
There are a few that I know, but no one is brave enough to take her out the field. I know she looks really quiet but as soon as she's out its a whole other story. She becomes absolutely full of herself, bolts, bucks and hates waiting! My youngest son rides her bareback in the field and she's fine with that as long as he doesn't ask her to do anything as then she dumps him 😅🤯 She's hard work! When I've got her going out regularly she's absolutely incredible. Best horse in the world and we have gone to the most amazing places and done some amazing fun rides but its having the bravery to get there! I wouldn't want anyone getting hurt plus anyone that knows her wouldn't ride her 😂🐴❤ It's going to be fun!
Thank you for explaining this, it was a bit confusing whether tack is included or not, if horse if overweight or is actually fit. This helps a lot for my young mare who will soon be under saddle and i do need get weight off a bit since shes not in work for too long
Oh lets do this together @karolinadovehook3776 ! I would love to see your mare. Ill have to set up something on my Facebook page so everyone can share pictures of their horses ❤❤❤
Hi, I am also in the process of trying to lose some weight so that I can ride again. It goes on so easily but is so hard to come off. Keep up the good work. I love your horses, I have always had a soft spot for coloured horses. 😊
Oh I do love a coloured @hayleystrutt2422 😍😍😍 I dont know if you could tell from this video but they all have white faces too 😂 We can get the weight off together! You can do this and so can I! 💪
I have to have this discussion with my father now that he is riding more. Bless him for starting in his 60s just to spend more time with me but he keeps wanting to ride my horses. I have a couple that are 17h and are large enough for him, but he loves to ride my smaller 16 horse. He is 6 foot and not a large man but still a full grown man so I just have to explain that even though he is just going for a trail ride… I would prefer to not make the horses sore. I let him ride the thicker ones but I learned to not let him convince me to let him ride my mare since her back is not up for it. Even I feel like I am a bit heavy for her so I am trying to lose a bit to keep her more sound when we are jumping ( I am under the ‘weight limit’ but I try to hand walk in the warm up and cool off just to keep it there). A really fun way to get more exercise for your horse and you without riding is going on a hand hack. I love going on long walks on my days off and I started taking a horse out with me if I don’t bring my dogs. It is a fun thing for me to do with my retired horses or horses that aren’t being ridden. I want to start taking my yearlings once I get their handling up to snuff, I just think it will be a great way to expose them to new environments while they are still in hand.
❤ Thank you so much for watching and for commenting @Hulachowdown ❤ I think its amazing that your dad has gotten into riding! Here's another video that Ive made that could help a little more. ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html You could try and work out which horse is best and maybe the 16hh horse is fine? Long legs are fine! ❤
What a lovely comment @hannahm1256 and thank you so much for watching :-) I've always been the same. I cant see the point in pretending to myself, plus I think it would be great to have a little UA-cam community that could all club together and help each other. Its also really good to have the added pressure of hundreds of people knowing you are on a weight loss journey so you don't give up! I've noticed the difference in Hope already in just these past 2 weeks so fingers crossed we will be fit enough and light enough to get out on some adventures soon :-)
This is a wonderful video! I love how you break it down and your attitude for it. Im currently on my own weight loss journey and i HIGHLY recommend looking into whole30. I should do a video on it myself. But it is seriously the best. Yes it feels restrictive at first but it helps you realize good whole foods abd at this point it feels amazing to eat really healthy foods and ZERO cravings for processed food (the main hurdle to weight loss imo). Definitely look into it, especially since youre already restricting so much already.
What a wonderful comment @anequestrianlife and thank you so much for sharing it. I will be having a look into that straight away! The cravings are definitely the hardest part of all this. My brain definitely wants me to be fat!
Thank you for your video, it is both enlightening and enjoyable. As I need to lose 8 kg (am 5.1, 70 kg & in my late sixties) and wish to take up riding again, this video will help me to start cutting down on food in the evening., which led to the added kilos. Special diet NO - will eat everything including crisps and chocolate, just less and not in the evening. When I miss masticating in the evening, past experience tells me that pieces of carrot and cucumber can help quench that. Cut them in small pieces and mix on a plate, chuck a little vinegar and herbs on top. Best wishes to you from the NL & to all here who wish to lose the extra pounds!
Thank you so much @EvelynTokamp and please do get back into horses. They are in our blood and I don't think we can ever be truly happy without knowing there is one there to hear all of your troubles and concerns. They never judge you either! It was really hard to cut out the chocolate and Ill be honest, I had the shakes after day 3 which was nice very nice at all. The cravings have mostly stopped now but if it was handed to me id eat the lot! Pieces of carrot and cucumber actually sound really nice so ill try that. I have discovered tuna fritters which you can make in no time at all and are incredibly filling. 1 can of tuna drained 20g self raising flour 1 large egg All mixed in a bowl, seasoned and fried in a pan with one of those 1 calorie sprays. It makes about 5 fritters and its tough to eat them all. Very nice though! 🐴
Came across your channel. Beautiful upload. Transparency is key to our lives. Horsemanship is done with responsibility. I LOVE your candor. The realistic admission to a sensitive subject. Losing weight. I am personally a BIGGIE on ground work anyway. You will have the much better relationship with your girl. Laminitis is a bitch to deal with...omg awful. So I am here. From Northern California. ❤❤
Oh heavens @suzystone244 your comment have just blown me away. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I am so incredibly happy that you have found our little channel. Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Hayley.
2 stone = 28 pounds (USA brain first time viewer). "Horse box" = horse trailer. I can relate to this video! Horse care takes up so much energy. Yep! Be extra careful about horse weight. I didn't realize that had let one of my Icelandics get overweight when first got them. Also didn't realize he was insulin resistant, then he developed laminitis. Good for you to recognize this before bad things happen. I learned some winter grasses & weeds in the yard were dangerous for him. I've learned a lot! -- Good for you! Make a dry lot & you can muzzle. Track system is a great idea! Soaking hay to reduce sugars. Take your horse on trail doing hiking with them. -- I'll subscribe to see what you are doing! -- My other horse meanwhile has developed arthritis, as the years passed. -- For myself, I have to count my calories. Recommend MyFitnessPal for counting & stay under daily calories. I have used Weight Watchers in the past. Counting works.
Thank you so much for the suggestion @MegF142857 Laminitis is awful isn't it. We ended up with a Sports horse worth a fortune years ago because he had suffered with stress laminitis and no one would touch him after that. Turned out to be an amazing horse! My blind horse it 44 and suffers with arthritis but the magnet boots have really helped! Again thank you so much for commenting and subscribing, it really does mean the world to us! 😍🐴💕
Morning I’ve just stumbled across your channel what a delight! So glad you have highlighted the weight of horse and rider! I’ve witnessed some awful sights. So thank you from this moment on I will be following you from now on!❤
Thank you so much @Makado14 I find it absolutely incredible that people are watching my little channel from so far away! Thank you so much for commenting and for watching ❤❤❤❤❤
Just come across your channel. Well done for your honesty & research🎉 I hope you get back in the saddle soon (or carriage as some have suggested). Very best wishes ❤
Thank you so much and I am so happy that you have discovered our little channel @annejarvis7002 . I absolutely love researching the most random of things but I'm autistic so I guess it comes with the package :-) I have a little cart but it has been off the road for about 8 years after it was in a bit of an accident with a friend. If I can get hold of a harness then ill see what Hope thinks of the whole idea. She is very opinionated! ❤❤❤ Thank you again so much for commenting and watching and i would love you to follow us on our journey :-)
I am in the same place as you, so i thought of breaking my horse to harness!!!!!!Its a completely new way of going for you and your lovely cob. You get lots more exercise long reigning ect, and him too,and if done right what fun you both can have until you are what you have worked out as the right weight to ride again, just a thought,i brought my horse synthetic harness, did loads of research on vehicles suitable, as long as everything is safe and done safely as regards to harness fit, attachment to safe vehicles that have been checked out by someone who is knowledgeable of such, its all research and practise, and something to focus on to stop you from thinking about food, diets, what you should and shouldn't be drinking ect. There's lots on line to inspire you and hopefully take the right road to sucess, and possibly local help or groups to go to yourself at first, just a thought that might help, good luck in whatever you do , keep us all posted, there is a lot of people in just the same place, we all need ideas to get started.X
Oh thank you so much @susanvuturo4361 what a lovely thing to say, thank you ❤❤❤ I've definitely noticed a difference in us both and I even took the dopey one out for a long walk today! She was absolutely shattered by the time we got home and it was only about 3 km's bless her. I filmed some of the walk so that will definitely be in tomorrows vlog ❤❤❤
Wonderful, brave, candid video. Major props! You are a role model for honest horsemanship, thank you! A total aside, where in the world did you get that amazing unicorn pendant?!? It's magical!
Thank you so much for your comment @stacyenzmann1230 that really does mean a lot. I bought my pendant from a page I follow on Facebook, ill have to see if I can find it because it hasn't popped up in my feed for ages and I love the carved rabbits that they make too ❤
Thank you so much @susanmarston5475 I do love her so much even though she is a bit full on sometimes :-) I saved her life when she was born and then she had to be bottle fed. When she was 3 my horse died and Hopes owner gave her to me as a gift. Ill never forget that day, we are like 2 peas in a pod 🐴
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream She is your soul mate and you love her and she loves you She is a beautiful mare.I have loved horses all my life but could never provide their needs to own one but with beautiful people who own them like yourself I can look and share their beauty thank you
Just found your channel. I love your attitude, the educational aspect, and your beautiful farm! Subscribed. At 46, I'm a fit farm girl/ runner, who always carries a little "extra" . I'm borderline obese on the charts, yet run in the mountains. 😂 I'm a bit concerned as my 3 year old Lippitt Morgan is still a peanut... I'm currently at around 30% WITHOUT tack. She'll bulk up a lot eventually, but I'm going to try to lose a few pounds so I can ride her in the spring. Good luck!
Oh yay! @Kelly_Ben Thank you so much for subscribing, that really means the world to me and I am so happy that you have found our channel! I am about a quarter of the way up the obese line on the charts. I am very short! If I could just get a bit taller 😏 Oh yes, now that she has turned 3 she will gradually start filling out. They are just legs until then aren't they 😂 We can lose the pounds together 😊
I don't have a horse, but I've been losing weight with a similar goal! Once I lose enough weight I'm going to take riding lessons. I know I could technically ride a draft horse at my current weight, but I want to lose enough to be able to ride more typical sized horses as well. So far I'm down 15lbs, but am eager to continue the journey!
Oh @Treasurefield_Homestead please come along on this journey with me! I have had so many people message to say that they have been losing weight each week since they started watching my vlogs and it just fills my heart with happiness it really does! 15 lbs is AMAZING! Well done! I can't wait for you to start riding as well ❤🐴💕
Hi there! I just found your channel - I like how relaxing it is, and the filming is fantastic 😊 I piled weight on in the past year and a half due to lifestyle changes.. I started learning to ride recently, and it's given me the incentive I need to change! I have started using MyFitnessPal again to track what I eat, and I do some activity in the week such as walking and using my exercise bike. It is coming off very slowly but surely. I want to feel more comfortable on the horse because I feel rather self-conscious the way that I am. I also want to know that the horses are comfortable with me, and I can safely ride various horses at the riding school. Congratulations on your amazing weight loss. It's really encouraged me to keep moving forwards 💜
Thank you so much for watching ❤😍🐴 I am so happy you like my way of filming. I'm hopefully getting better as we go along. It has been such a huge learning curve! Have you seen the last video I put up of finding the exercise cart out? That was the hardest to film so far! Heres the link: ua-cam.com/video/aGQrZDZt7zI/v-deo.html Again thank you so much for watching and for such a helpful comment. Hayley ❤
Oh thank you so much @wandasimons3305 it was the bane of my life growing up but I've learnt to love it a bit more now. Plus you can see me from miles away! 🤣🐴💕
They were saying the same thing about BMI in my WW class today and that people who start to lose weight and then start going to the gym to lose more weight, actually weigh heavier on the scale 🙄
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream Just be a bit cautious about what is being said about heavy riders. There's a lot of rubbish on social media about heavier riders, that have no substance and is actually underlying fat shaming. Horses are so different and are MUCH stronger than we think. Read cautiously the "scientific" papers as a lot are flawed or put about by companies whose products profit by them. There are some really experienced heavier riders who excel at their game and their horses are sound and happy. I'm not talking morbidly obese here. According to "rules" hardly anyone except unhealthy lower weight riders are able to ride.
@@juliaforsyth8332 Horses aren't naturally supposed to carry anything on their back, suggesting they're more strong puts these beautiful animals at risk to save feelings. It's not our right to determine what is strong enough to carry us. If science suggest 20% than it's our responsibility to adhere to that. It's nothing to do with RULES it's respecting a living creature that we've decided to take advantage of, not a mechanical man-made creation. Most riders are not balanced or accurate, that's just how it is. I'm not saying no large rider can ride, but be responsible and look for something appropriate to carry you.
You do not look too heavy, for that horse you were lunging. The other horse you let out the gate, looks smaller. Drafts can carry more weight. That horse you lunged has to weigh at least 1300 lbs. But I'm super glad you care about this. You think of the horse, first. And that's awesome.
Thank you so much @outoftime7740 yes she is sooooo fat isn't she! Believe it or not the horse you saw going through the gate (his name is Toby) is a whole inch bigger than Hope. Everyone always thinks she's bigger, even when they are standing next to each other. I haven't ridden Toby for a few years because he gets so worked up and excited bless him plus he's 44! He's also blind but you'd never know it.
@EssentiallyLivingtheDream Well your horse is alot thicker and weighs alot more than Toby. Even though Toby may be taller. Your horse looks like it has a draft breed in her. Which means they can carry and pull more weight than a non-draft horse. She is really cute, your horse. Love her colors.
@@outoftime7740 pulling and riding are two different things…..puts stress on different parts of the horse’s body. Just because a horse is draft, part draft, or a pony doesn’t make it ok to overload it’s back with a rider that’s too large
@nicolaxoxo1 A draft horse weighs more, than your average non draft horse. Just like she stated, Toby is taller than her horse. But I guarantee, her horse beats Toby by 400 lbs. That is how you figure out, what a horse can carry. Ya I know, pulling a cart, is much easier on a horse, than riding on it. I stated draft breeds can pull and can carry more weight than the average non draft horse, because of their strength and their weight.
I think one of the main problems is that they don't realise. I really do think it should be a thing that we check weights on a regular basis just like how we track calories on a diet. ❤️
I love it x Some how I'm now 12,1/2 stone and too busy 2 eat real food, crisps n choc and bloody menopause 😢 I'm dying to go up to my equestrian school and offer mucking out /help skills if I can get riding time, but I'm afraid I'm too big ?. I love, horse's but haven't the confidence since I was bucked off 44yr ago I'm now 50 and the occasional visit up claverhouse dundee Scotland. Is better than any antidepressant, xxx Is or am I too old to get back into trusting , and can horse's tell and take the mick out ov a human who's lacking confidence❤
Oh @triciadailly8974 I love this message ❤❤❤ Of course you are not too old!!! You don't have to spend time with horses just to ride, in fact that's probably 5% of what being with horses means. You need to spend time with them for them and for you! Spend time grooming them, feeling there incredibly fur fur between your fingers and deeply breathe in that wonderful horse smell. It soothes your soul and yes it really is the most incredible therapy. See if your local riding school has spaces for volunteers and spend some time there. When you build your confidence on the ground the rest will follow. Now PLEASE let me know how you get on, make that phone call or send that message. This is the sign you've been waiting for to make that step! ❤🐴💕
There are so many variables that fall within and outside of the 20 percent rule, the breed, it's conditioning, etc. In the states we have full grown men riding 14.+ hand reining horses, but these horses are in top condition. Ask your vet.
You are so right @cherylmillard2067 I've also made a video on the things that affect a horses weight carrying capacity as I have been really researching it and was surprised to find that it wasn't just weight! Here's the link if you would like to have a watch ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html ❤
You could train Hope to drive then you could exercise her while you continue to lose weight. It's really hard to lose weight as an older person. I've been at it for about 3 months and have only lost 1 stone. I'm sticking with it though.
Oh wow! Well done for losing a stone, that is an incredible achievement @MiriamPendleton ! I actually went yesterday and collected my cart! Its in a bit of a state but if you tune in at 6pm you'll see the full video ❤😍🐴 We need to stick to this diet Miriam!
I am so sorry to hear that @hannahtuck3052 my friends horse has the same but he still has an amazing life. She takes him on lovely walks and even does really well at shows with him in the veteran classes! Thank you so much for commenting and subscribing, it really does mean the world to us and it will be a pleasure to have you come along for this amazing journey with us ❤💕🐴
I took your advice a few hours ago and we went for a beautiful walk @sidilicious11 , I also filmed it so that will definitely be in tomorrow evenings vlog! Have to say I was absolutely shattered when I we got back to the field and Hope was ready for another nap! 🤣🤣🤣 Bruce bought our foal with us which was amazing because it was his first time properly out of the field since we rescued him aaaaaaaaand Simon bought the old man along too so he wasn't on his own and he really enjoyed it too! Thank you so much for putting the idea into my brain, for watching my video and for such a helpful comment 🐴
That’s so responsible of you ! ❤ By the way , funny how you use so many different measurements. I am not in the UK and have no what 2 stone and 14 hands are 😅
Thank you so much @sphhyn and Oh no! Let me turn it into different measurements for you :) A stone is 14lbs or 6.35kg so 2 stone is 28lbs or 12.7kg And 14hh means 14 hands high which is the same as 57 inches or 4 ft 8 inches ❤❤❤ I hope this helps and thank you so much for watching and for commenting 🐴
The 20% rule is like a BMI. It's a starting point but it doesn't take into considerations of the horses breed , it's body structure or its age. A Dutch cross draft horse is much different at the same rough weight than an Arabian or thoroughbred or a gypsy vanner. Gypsy banners are a perfect example. They are much smaller than other draft breeds but they are stocky AF and can obviously handle more weight than a Arabian can. One of the best indicators I've seen is the size of the horse's feet. I'm not an expert by any means but I know bigger hooves mean bigger bone structure mean more even weight distribution. That's why 20% suggestion does not work for mules or donkeys. Their bone structure especially regarding the scapula is different than horses. That's why donkeys and mules need breaching to prevent the saddle from sliding forward because of how their shoulder blades work. When in doubt, ask your vet. One of the best methods to shedding weight without a lot of exercise or dieting is to try and get about 90 g of protein a day followed by complex carbohydrates which are your fruits and vegetables and whole grains and then limit pasta, rice, white grains, anything that is refined. I am down 130 lb and still losing and two Stones. Seems like a lot, but if you eat a lot of protein, it's harder for your body to digest so you burn more calories while doing it and you should be able to drop that easily within 3 to 4 months. I wish you well. You have beautiful horses and I wish had the capability of having my own. It's been a long time dream of mine ever since I was a child. Maybe someday.
Here's another video I made about the 20% rule that goes a lot more in depth about the different aspects that affect the weight carrying capacity of a horse: ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html I really do appreciate you watching our videos and thank you so much for such a helpful comment @JulianaBlewett
I've found that since hitting my 40s, the weight goes on so easy and is so much harder to shift, especially now with the menopause, I also am limited to the exercises I can do since I've permanent knee mobility issues from an old riding accident, I follow the content creator ' Broccoli Mum' who shows simple but filling recipes for weight loss, can't believe I'm losing weight and eating choc cookies everyday, they're made from sweet potatoes, It's so refreshing to see someone like you who actually cares about their horses' well-being and wanting to be the fittest you can be not just for your own health but for your horses too,
Oh heavens @melaniesheen1642 I'm 43 this month so I don't think I'm far off menopause either! Chocolate cookies?????????????? Oh my word I am going to have to find that recipe within the next 20 seconds and I will definitely be following 'Broccoli Mum' also so thank you from the bottom of my heart for that tip! ❤❤❤ Ill be honest I don't think I would have even noticed that I had put on so much weight if it wasn't for Hope and the sudden realisation that I was too heavy for her. I know there are people that think of them as either sports equipment or a toy to blast around on but I honestly see them as dear friends. I don't know if you've seen Toby my blind horse in any of my other videos but he is 44 now and I genuinely don't know what I will ever do without him when he goes. Again, thank you so very much for watching and for such a helpful, wonderful comment and it would be wonderful if you could follow us on this crazy pony UA-cam journey 🐴
I've been vegetarian almost all my life. That has meant I can't eat most fast food and have had to do a lot of cooking from scratch. But different things work for different people. I eat a lot of carbs! Modern life and genes work together to make us put on weight.
Carbs are my most favourite @emilydavison2053 I love air fried new potatoes with grated cheese but I know its not great for the diet!!! It's just such a loooooooong process isn't it. 🐴
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream it's a constant thing to be aware of what you're eating. Chips and cheese certainly aren't diet food! Oats and brown rice are good though and fill you up well. It's thoughtful of you not to overburden your beautiful horse. Good luck for the future.
For the Americans like myself, 1 stone = 14 pounds. With all the work your doing your building muscle which weighs heavier. You will lose weight, but remember to not lose faith while the muscle builds.
Oh my word really? That is the most incredible achievement @auggiedoggiesmommy1734 , well done! What did you find was the best thing to eat when you were craving chocolate? And can I just say how beautiful your dog is in your profile picture. ❤❤❤
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream I would make chocolate mousse and measure out small portions into cups. In the winter I would make homemade hot chocolate using the recipe on the back of Hershey’s cocoa can and using 1/2 skim and half whole milk. Also chocolate fudge ice cream bars …they are usually pretty low in calories and since they are individually wrapped it was easier to control. In the U.S. we have a brand called Healthy Choice that are not terrible, really low calorie. I started a power yoga practice and really got into the idea of not eating sugar and worked HARD and eliminated it from my diet ..it took a full 30 days before I wasn’t craving it, but I have broken that recently a bit! Once you get rid of sugar fruit tastes sweeter. You can also dip fruit in chocolate and limiting portions is key. Mix a few almonds, raisins and chocolate chips (I use milk chocolate). I often find it’s better for me to just not have it in the house because it’s so tempting. Good luck!
I was taught 20% weight no more than 20 miles a day. You can go heavier but cut distance accordingly. Go more than 20 miles a day lower the weight. It also figured a well conditioned equine, on flat terrain, in perfect weather conditions. And even more importantly, that’s pack weight not rider weight. US Calvary horses were 15-16 hands, dark in color. Most riders weighed 140lbs. But either way horses were bought on color and height (conformation as well). They didn’t make considerations for the rider. Ride that horse girl. Exercise is good for both rider and equine. Just pace yourself and your horse. Conditioning isn’t quick. Also, your health isn’t defined by body weight…
I worked with horses professionally for over 50 years. The rider's weight is important but saying 20% percentage is not always true. I have seen a Welsh pony carrying a farmer, in 2' of snow, with a bale of hay strapped to the farmers back and another across his neck. No problems at all. Watch today’s cowboys riding horses for hours ar a time. These men would be 200 - 300 lbs, western saddles are heavy so add that. These horses work on often very rough terrain with no problem. A heavier well balanced rider will do less harm than a lighter weight rider that sits heavy. It would not do your mare any harm riding her out on gentle hacks.
Thank you so much for your comment @Foxhunter49 I'm not far off being able to ride her now but I think ill keep going after that as well because I'm starting to feel so much better in my own skin. I think working horses are just so much fitter than our average riding horses aren't they so maybe the added weight isn't so much an issue for them as unfit horses. I just cant wait to be feeling healthier in myself and to have Hope looking like her usual self again. ❤🐴
I just lost 3 kg in a week. How? I had a wisdom tooth removed and, because of what the novocain did to my jaw nerves, couldn't open my mouth over more than a teaspoon. That basically meant that I could take in only yoghurt and veggie smoothies. No bread, no cheese, no meat. LOL - try that. It certainly had an effect on me. ;-) Other than that, cudos for minding what weight is put on your horse.
Good 4 U! I commented on lady n her video of a quarter horse stud she was buying that looked 15Hands n med build- she looked about 230 or better n with saddle it would be 260 or so n I said she needed a bigger horse! She didn't take it kindly! Oh well!
Thank you so much for your comment @jcpalmer6051there are a few groups on Facebook that openly welcome those that are far too big for their horses too. So sad for the poor horses.
Thank you so much for watching our videos @katipohl2431 ❤🐴😍 I love that you are watching all the way from Germany. I have visited a few times and it is always so beautiful.
Do you know @april5666 you have just made my whole day with this comment. Thank you so much and it is a pleasure to have you along for this journey with us :-)
Unfortunately many people treat animals like they're objects instead of living, breathing souls! The Grand Canyon won't let anyone ride unless their weight is safe for the horse and rider!
Absolutely @conniewolf7300 I remember years ago being told by a very influential rider that horses were like cars and they should be upgraded regularly so that you always have one that is fit for purpose. I've never forgotten that to be honest because it shocked me so much. I'm not sure if you've seen him in my vlogs but I have a blind 44 year old pony who is as fit as a fiddle and loves life still. I've had him since I was a kid and last winter he really struggled before we took on this field. I had so many people tell me I should just just put him to sleep ! Absolutely not! He even took my youngest son to his Prom in July, here's the video: ua-cam.com/video/utifnWz_1qc/v-deo.html and he's looking the best he has in the last few years. I think its all down to just loving them and doing the best that we can for them isn't it. ❤️
Thank you so much for the suggestion and I've just sent for a new one @equestrial44 I'm not sure how successful ill be with keeping it on her for a few hours per day because she ate the bottom out of the last one. Plus the others help her to remove fly masks, they work as a team! They are organised!
Yes absolutely @josephinestecak4945 ! I did a full video all about the 20% rule this week, here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html I've put exactly what affects the weight carrying capacity of horses and one of the main things is the circumference of the cannon bone. Even rough ground can affect them massively.
Yes @Spyrit2011 its exactly the same and I've made a video that explains all of this in full detail along with all the other factors that affect the amount a horse can carry. It surprising how much does really affect them, even down to the ground that they are on. Here is the link if you would like to have a look: ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html With Draft breeds they are naturally just so much bigger and their ideal weight is so much higher than a standard riding pony that their 20% weight carrying capacity is a lot higher. Thank you so much for watching my video and for adding such a good comment. Hayley ❤❤❤
I love eggs @wandasimons3305 but there's something about a hard boiled egg especially if it has been in the fridge that just turns my stomach 🤯🙄 My friend has started at the WW class with me and she is losing loads of weight doing exactly that with eggs. Problem is I would much prefer a Cadbury cream egg 🤣🤣🤣 I have been making crisps out of apples in the air fryer that seem to fill a hole in my need for chocolate though.
Hello 👋! I’m too much weighed too… but I’m 61 and it’s difficult to loose now… I ride small rides once or twice a week and I dismount 1 or 2 km before home. And I walk with my horse.. this way it’s not too hard for him he his a big horse, 1,75m. What is a stone ? Pond ? Kilo ?
A few people have said that about different weight and height measurements in different countries @nicolecourt7829 . Thank you so much for your comment and it would be amazing to have you follow us on this journey. A stone is the same as 14 pounds (lb) so half a stone is 7 pounds (lb). A kilo is 1000 grams or 2.3 pounds. We also measure horses in hands (hh) so hope is 14.1hh which I think transfers to 1.43m. Its very confusing isn't it!!! I love walking with my horse too! I think I will take Hope for a lovely long walk this week now that you have inspired me ❤🐴
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream thank you for your answer. Yes it’s very confusing 😂…I think I wil use the google converter… have a nice walk with your horse, see you next week 😘
Oh I love this video. Horses welfare must come first. And ya deffo getting a follow. I’ve been on a huge weightloss journey. I’m disabled after a moterbike accident one of my legs is nackered no bend. Biggest 26/28 maybe 24 stone. Went into a riding for disabled no intention of being able to ride just needing an ideal weight to be person horrid experience but hey ho it was time to do something. First 5 stone off was pure luck calorie counting no idea what I was doing just stuck to my fitness pal ate what I liked but didn’t go over calories didn’t measure anything. Next 2 stone more mindful little bit of swimming but still not understanding. Finally my last 2.5 I have a trainer I do what I can in the gym and he has sorted my nutrition out and I use nutracheck. I’ve been on a diet since 13 now 51 slimming clubs screwed my relationship with food. From the queen of can’t count calories it literally saved my life I’m now down to 13.5 stone 14/16 nearly lost 11 stone it’s a person. I’m also riding a mechanical horse preparing for a real horse I need another stone off but I want 2 off. I’ve found a stables that are great for there horses and disabled riders. I could ride now but would have to be without a leader and my hubby scared I’ll do more damage. So still a little way to go but end in sight. Me at 24 stone life was over now there’s a future. Tips protein fibre and calories protein helps you loose weight fibre helps so if you prioritise them on whatever diet you do you help yourself. There’s so much garbage on the internet I eat as many calories as I can non of this 1200 calories lark. No food is bad just portions and how your eating in the day. I either eat 2 big meals 3 snacks Or 3 big meals 2 snacks Meal prep and being prepared is the key if you can just go to the fridge and heat something up it stops the I’ll just eat whatever. And everyday I have chocolate. Life and dieting is blummin hard but your doing well for your goal but you need to make it sustainable spent way to many years yo-yoing. And the 20 % rule if it’s not broke don’t need fixing but the riders clothes come into it as well when I was trying to get to the mechanical horse weight everything counts.
Oh my word @debblackwell2750 you have done absolute wonders! ❤❤❤ I am in awe of your incredible resilience and how far you have come! I've struggled this week. I feel like I am so restricted and all I want to do is eat a block of chocolate the size of my head! But I'm still going. Sometimes it is day by day and sometimes its hour by hour but I am getting there slowly. I need to be more like you!
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream love I struggle every week. Meal prep helped me Also planning my meals Remembering why I’m doing it Only being strict for about 16 weeks then having a maintenance break or holiday That really helps And if I go over or up then just get back on plan no berating and just it’s done now f it. And it’s more than likely it’s water anyway so when you say f it weight does go on. That took way too long to learn. I found calorie counting worked best as I can have what I want I don’t try to be a nasa scientist working out points or foods. Being honest with myself. Just have what I want in reasonable portions. Like today kvarg protein yogx2 blueberry’s, gluten free toast avocados and goats cheese 2 fibre donuts. Parmasan Garlic fake cream sauce pasta with veg and chicken. Kvarg and blue berries I’m a bit heavy on my tea meal than usual but that’s ok it’s huge. And that’s me prepped for 3 days. So I don’t have to think. My pasta size means not as many snacks but that’s ok. Also celebrate the wins it’s not I’ve only lost 1 £ this week as in a month it’s 4 or 5 and that’s good steady weight loss. Don’t be bought in by people telling you about a stone in 2 days garbage. I love ya horses and ya content trust yourself and you will get there.
You are wonderful @debblackwell2750 thank you so much for finding our videos. I've had a real struggle of a week this week but I am still going. My vlogs are always about 2 weeks behind so I've just scheduled tonight's episode 4 where I lost a crazy amount in a week and I'm thinking how did I do that when this week I've struggled to lose half a pound. Just got to keep going and stop beating myself up all the time.
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream now if you could find the secret to why we loose weight you would be a multi millionaire. I would say you do work out by working in the stables but your body is used to that so it’s like you walk 10,000 steps for 6 months your not gonna get such a big hit on your calorie deficit as you did at the start. I started with an Aussie over 50 fitness lady on UA-cam all free and no shouty shouty we need muscles and it’s looks easy but you need to build up. Fabulous 50’s her name is Shelly she does loads with long and short. I did mine before bed and it helped me sleep. I’ve had a bit of a wobble and my trainer is shocked I’m not saying I’ll drop my calories as he wants me being consistent his advice must be going in my hard head. This last 3 stone is driving me mad and yes I’m happy as I am but it will mean no disabled riding. So need to push on. I love you put your horses first think that’s why I feel a connection does not happen often. I’m. Still giggling at the vid with ya pony and the mat. Weightloss is mad but believe in you and you’ll get there
I've never heard of taking collagen @HoiaPolloia is it a tablet? Ive started eating nothing but whole foods which I've found to be incredibly filling! ❤🐴❤
20%?! I'm on a diet bc people told me the rule is 10%! Btw... 10% is impossible for me (I'm tall and even when I was young and super fit, I weighted 65kg, not 50). 😔 So I just gave up riding, even if I'm on diet.
If you have a super lightweight horse with extremely fine canon bones then it can be as low as 10% but as a rule its not. Here's another video I made about the 20% rule that goes a lot more in depth about the different aspects that affect the weight carrying capacity of a horse: ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html You might find this one even more helpful 😊 Never give up and we can get the weight off and be healthy together! ❤🐴❤
Is your pony actually 455kg earlier in the video you were speculating she could be 550kg, which would mean you could ride her using 20% rule? Sorry if I’ve misunderstood I was using cc and the captions are not always that good. My riding pony is over 550kg and looks a very similar stamp to yours
Great question @SharonJones-ej9bz her ideal weight is about 455kg but at the minute she is way over that. The problem is she is so small! She is only 14.1hh if I could stretch her another hand I wouldn't have a problem plus Id be a multi millionaire for figuring out how to do it 🤣🤣🤣 I'm going to sort out a link on my Facebook page because I would absolutely love to see everyone's beautiful horses and ponies but there's no way of doing it on here.
Oh heavens I wish it was just that @Groundedsquirrel but I think it has more to do with living on Cornish Pasties from the butchers over the road and chocolate from the Farm Shop! 😂🐴❤
Oh I can feel another video coming on @trudypowell8303 ! I shall add that one to the list because I cant show everyone quite how that works without a harness. Ill hopefully have one very soon! Driving is different as the cart has to be balanced and then the wheels of the cart bare the weight. Now that's the theory but in practice unless you have the perfect ground to drive on, correct wheels for the terrain, knowledgeable about balancing the cart, that can all change quite quickly but it is why adults can drive Shetland ponies without any trouble whatsoever. ❤🐴💕 Thank you for such a great question and for watching our video ❤

Well done, I am rooting for you 100% 🎉

It’s so admirable that you love yourself as much as you love your horse thank you
Oh bless you @JuneWood-qh5py I just want to try and do the best I can and I have been beating myself up for being so stupid and letting her get so fat in the first place. ❤
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and thank you so much for watching ❤🐴❤

Your mare is beautiful. And so are you. Inside and out. God bless you. This world needs more of you!
Oh thank you so much @KellieRudd1 you are so kind ❤❤❤
I'm so happy you think little Hope is beautiful, I think she is too.
The weight topic in the equestrian world is obviously a touchy one…too many people don’t Look at themselves before they get on, and others are too nervous to point out a weight issue…
Kudos for your bravery in bringing up the topic and using your own situation as an example.
❤ love and blessings for your journey.
Thank you so much @sammillar3561 Ive always been completely fine with 'taking things on the chin' and Id rather say it myself than have someone else say it in a comment 🙄
I think if I can use myself as an example and help people and their horses then that is surely something positive to do with my life.
The 20% rule IS good horsemanship 🙏
I’m going to try weight loss meds as I have never been able to successfully stick to a diet. Best of luck with WW you lovely kind lady ❤

Keto and intermittent fasting did the trick for me. Realized I’m a carb addict and finally broke the addiction. Best of luck to you!
Oh my word @wallhagens2001 carbs are my downfall. I've managed to give up chocolate to a certain degree and had the shakes really bad for the first few days but no I've realised that i need brown bread!
@@lumini3172 I enjoy walking them and caring for them. Go thru ground routines with them. I just enjoy being around them.

I am so sorry that you lost your horse, it is truly the most awful thing to go through and the fact that you have sole responsibility to make the decision makes you question yourself forever more doesn't it. Know that you did the right thing and just try and remember the wonderful times.
I would truly love it if you would follow along on this journey with us. I know its not much just to watch a few UA-cam videos but I would really love it if we could all make a difference together.
Again thank you so much.

No weight yo-yoing, that is ultimately a downfall for the body (moodyness, hormones peeking and being screwed up etc.), in my experience
Anyway you look lovely and don't let anyone tell you otherwise all bodies are good bodies! Plus you are taking responsibility for your horses health and yourself in the way that suits you best
Thank you so much for watching @desireehubbard7337 and thank you so much for a lovely comment ❤❤❤

Fjord horses are incredible and a breed that I have never owned.
You've popped into my feed and I'm pleased you did. I don't ride but love horses.
Oh heavens @trippinggauntlet4520 I am beyond happy that I have popped up in your feed too! It is an absolute pleasure to have you along on this journey with us and hopefully youll get a regular horsey fix now! ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the great video, I feel your pain, I to have piled the weight on, hoping to get it off over the winter!!
Oh heavens @karenmackinnon7385 its so hard though isn't it! I saw all the mince pies have started coming into the supermarkets as well and they are my kryptonite! I've got an 8 month WW membership so fingers crossed I can get the majority off in that time so I can go for free!

Yes definitely going to be putting one in but we cant do a proper one because our field gets incredibly wet!

Thankyou so much for such a lovely comment @claireleone and you are right, it has taken so much effort to get to where we are now ❤
Yay for the track! More people should realise what a good thing this is. Your field also seems to be slanted so the up and downhill will help. Good luck with the weight journey for both of you. 🐎

@QueenOfArchers ❤❤❤ Your profile picture looks amazing!!!
Absolutely!!!!

I really do appreciate you watching our videos @katherinewheatcroft3617 and thank you so much for such a helpful comment. ❤🐴❤
Good luck to you and Hope! After 40, weight is a struggle for many women. Ugh! 😊
I am definitely finding that this is the case @juliahelland6488 Why cant anything just be easy for us women??? 🤯😂😍

I must confess I do not know a single overweight equestrian. To quote Jason Kingsley, "shovelling -it makes you fit".
Oh my word really? Unfortunately @ccityplanner1217 I think at least 50% of those I know are! 😅

I made a more educational video about it a few days ago, I'm not sure if you've seen it but here's the link if you haven't and would like to: ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html

That mare is pretty darn stout and surely looks like she can carry a person of your stature. You don’t too look heavy to me at all

I mix up my hacks between riding & hand walking. Keeping up step for step with a forward horse is great exercise and will add to your weight loss journey. X

@Abbey-pb6fd you me and @Sophiecjp should start a club 😂😂😂 We can eat zero calorie chocolate all day and go and save that ranch!!!
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream definitely on it all ready chocolate is a big part of my life 😂
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream that is the dream, zero calorie chocolate 😍.
My youngest son rides her bareback in the field and she's fine with that as long as he doesn't ask her to do anything as then she dumps him 😅🤯
She's hard work! When I've got her going out regularly she's absolutely incredible. Best horse in the world and we have gone to the most amazing places and done some amazing fun rides but its having the bravery to get there! I wouldn't want anyone getting hurt plus anyone that knows her wouldn't ride her 😂🐴❤
It's going to be fun!
Oh I do love a coloured @hayleystrutt2422 😍😍😍 I dont know if you could tell from this video but they all have white faces too 😂
We can get the weight off together!
❤ Thank you so much for watching and for commenting @Hulachowdown ❤
I think its amazing that your dad has gotten into riding! Here's another video that Ive made that could help a little more. ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html You could try and work out which horse is best and maybe the 16hh horse is fine? Long legs are fine! ❤
This was so interesting and thank you for being so open ❤️ xx
What a lovely comment @hannahm1256 and thank you so much for watching :-) I've always been the same. I cant see the point in pretending to myself, plus I think it would be great to have a little UA-cam community that could all club together and help each other. Its also really good to have the added pressure of hundreds of people knowing you are on a weight loss journey so you don't give up! I've noticed the difference in Hope already in just these past 2 weeks so fingers crossed we will be fit enough and light enough to get out on some adventures soon :-)
Good on you for doing the right thing for your horse.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment @Krinsta1 and thank you so much for watching ❤❤❤
1 can of tuna drained
20g self raising flour
1 large egg
All mixed in a bowl, seasoned and fried in a pan with one of those 1 calorie sprays. It makes about 5 fritters and its tough to eat them all. Very nice though! 🐴
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream Thanks a lot for your reply & the recipe :) , will definitely try - though I`ve never heard about 1 calorie spray ...

If I could just get a bit taller 😏
Oh yes, now that she has turned 3 she will gradually start filling out.
Well done! I can't wait for you to start riding as well ❤🐴💕
Hi there!
I just found your channel - I like how relaxing it is, and the filming is fantastic 😊
I piled weight on in the past year and a half due to lifestyle changes..
Weight topic aside, I positively love your hair!!

New research says the rule should be 30%. The BMI scale is also seriously flawed. Ultra-fit athleted deemed obese because of muscle mass.
Great video and loving your personality. Think I’ll check out more of your videos. 😊

Oh @nicolecourt7829 you have just made my entire week! Let's do this together!!! This can be our weekly check in ❤❤❤🐴
You do not look too heavy, for that horse you were lunging.
Hope is a Gypsy Vanner ❤❤❤
I wish everyone followed this rule! It's sad how many people overload their horses!
I think one of the main problems is that they don't realise. I really do think it should be a thing that we check weights on a regular basis just like how we track calories on a diet. ❤️
I love it x
Some how I'm now 12,1/2 stone and too busy 2 eat real food, crisps n choc and bloody menopause 😢

Is or am I too old to get back into trusting , and can horse's tell and take the mick out ov a human who's lacking confidence❤
Here's the link if you would like to have a watch

By the way , funny how you use so many different measurements. I am not in the UK and have no what 2 stone and 14 hands are 😅
Thank you so much @sphhyn and Oh no! Let me turn it into different measurements for you :)
A stone is 14lbs or 6.35kg so 2 stone is 28lbs or 12.7kg And 14hh means 14 hands high which is the same as 57 inches or 4 ft 8 inches ❤❤❤
I hope this helps and thank you so much for watching and for commenting 🐴

Oh heavens @melaniesheen1642 I'm 43 this month so I don't think I'm far off menopause either! Chocolate cookies?????????????? Ill be honest I don't think I would have even noticed that I had put on so much weight if it wasn't for Hope and the sudden realisation that I was too heavy for her. I know there are people that think of them as either sports equipment or a toy to blast around on but I honestly see them as dear friends.

Good luck!
😋
Thank you so much for your lovely comment @Savoy_6 and thank you so much for watching ❤❤❤
Oh you have just made me laugh @hw-art !
Wired jaw, that's what I need! I guess Id still be able to push chocolate buttons in their though 😂😂😂
Your blonde curls are stunning!
Oh thank you so much @Rosebud65 ❤❤❤
Love and greetings from Germany.

Thank you so much for watching @aujkalenic4203 ❤😍🐴
Use a grazing muzzle. You’ll see her weight drop within a week.
Thank you so much for the suggestion and I've just sent for a new one @equestrial44 I'm not sure how successful ill be with keeping it on her for a few hours per day because she ate the bottom out of the last one. Plus the others help her to remove fly masks, they work as a team! They are organised!
Too heavy for my horse? To the 'tune' I'm too sexy for my shirt
Oh that's just made me laugh @fion1flatout I'll have that going round my brain for days 🤣🤣🤣
Too many people forget to make sure the horse has plenty of bone (measurement around under knee)
Are draft type breeds even under the same requirements as they are bred to carry heavier weights?
Yes @Spyrit2011 its exactly the same and I've made a video that explains all of this in full detail along with all the other factors that affect the amount a horse can carry. It surprising how much does really affect them, even down to the ground that they are on. Here is the link if you would like to have a look: ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html With Draft breeds they are naturally just so much bigger and their ideal weight is so much higher than a standard riding pony that their 20% weight carrying capacity is a lot higher. Thank you so much for watching my video and for adding such a good comment.
Hayley ❤❤❤
If you like eggs, eat boiled eggs. Boiled eggs will help keep you feeling full longer.
Yeap, bem Brave and loss Weight and your horse too, 😉👍
Thank you @seiadias7547 ❤🐴❤
❤🐴❤
From the queen of can’t count calories it literally saved my life
I’m now down to 13.5 stone 14/16 nearly lost 11 stone it’s a person.
I either eat 2 big meals 3 snacks
Or 3 big meals 2 snacks
Meal prep and being prepared is the key if you can just go to the fridge and heat something up it stops the I’ll just eat whatever.
Meal prep helped me
Also planning my meals
Remembering why I’m doing it
Only being strict for about 16 weeks then having a maintenance break or holiday
That really helps
And if I go over or up then just get back on plan no berating and just it’s done now f it.
Kvarg and blue berries
I’m a bit heavy on my tea meal than usual but that’s ok it’s huge.
Weightloss is mad but believe in you and you’ll get there
Thank you so much!!! I am going to go and have a look at her channel now @debblackwell2750 ❤🐴💕
I stopped eating bread and pasta, and take collagen everyday, that helped me lose because it curbed my appetite
So I just gave up riding, even if I'm on diet.
If you have a super lightweight horse with extremely fine canon bones then it can be as low as 10% but as a rule its not. Here's another video I made about the 20% rule that goes a lot more in depth about the different aspects that affect the weight carrying capacity of a horse: ua-cam.com/video/6P8fGUYHU0Q/v-deo.html You might find this one even more helpful 😊
Never give up and we can get the weight off and be healthy together!
She is only 14.1hh if I could stretch her another hand I wouldn't have a problem plus Id be a multi millionaire for figuring out how to do it 🤣🤣🤣
I'm going to sort out a link on my Facebook page because I would absolutely love to see everyone's beautiful horses and ponies but there's no way of doing it on here.
Oh my gosh I love you 🫶
Oh bless you @fullerhorsediary ❤🐴💕
Sounds like all the outdoor manual work increased your muscle, muscle weighs more than fat 😉 Anyways it’s a great topic.
Oh heavens I wish it was just that @Groundedsquirrel but I think it has more to do with living on Cornish Pasties from the butchers over the road and chocolate from the Farm Shop! 😂🐴❤
@@EssentiallyLivingtheDream ok that all sounds wonderful. Glad I found your channel
It was a happy time! 🤣🤣🤣
I have heard about the 20 percent rule for riding. Can you tell me what percent a horse can pull in a cart or other wheeled vehicle?
Oh I can feel another video coming on @trudypowell8303 ! I shall add that one to the list because I cant show everyone quite how that works without a harness. Ill hopefully have one very soon!
Driving is different as the cart has to be balanced and then the wheels of the cart bare the weight. Now that's the theory but in practice unless you have the perfect ground to drive on, correct wheels for the terrain, knowledgeable about balancing the cart, that can all change quite quickly but it is why adults can drive Shetland ponies without any trouble whatsoever. ❤🐴💕
Thank you for such a great question and for watching our video ❤
