What I always think about this performance is how the audience, the band and Madonna became one. Madonna has a very strong magnetism and stage presence and here we can see that. It's like everyone there is in a spaceship traveling through the galaxies… Whenever I want to recharge my energies I watch this performance!!! Thanks for the react.
The Evita training changed the game for Madonna vocally. Increased her range, improved her control and gave her the confidence to pull off live performances like this.
cool. I was going to say the same thing. I remember reading the reviews of the album Ray of Light and they universally noted the new beauty and better tone to her voice PLUS, per usual, she was integrating the hippest newest dance music trend EDM hence William Orbit as producer. I SO SO SOOOO with they would team up again.
A part of me always wishes she would've continued with the vocal training in the years after Evita. I don't think we would've had performances such as she's been giving in recent times, and probably would've had more of these gems.
This Ray of light performance is the definition of perfection. The song is a 10, her vocals are a 10, her movements are a 10, her confidence is a 1000. She knocked it out the stadium with this one
There’s a lot of debate on Madonna’s best live vocals on a television performance and this one always takes the cake for me, even over her Oscar performance of “Sooner Or Later”. She’s performed Ray Of Light a few times in concert since but she always sings it in a lower key. This was the top of her vocal career
I think this was one of the only times Madonna performed this song in its original key. This leads me to believe that Madonna was really pushing her vocals and singing way out of her range. You can sort of hear it strain in the original track, but it still sounded impressive. But it's probably difficult for her to replicate live. It's probably more dangerous for her voice, too.
@@RyanStorey1231 I study singing and, yes, it's difficult to replicate it every time. For instance, during the Drowned World Tour, she changed the end of Ray of Light.
Probably one of her very BEST live performances of that song. She, and the entire studio audience were feeling the energy of it. I still have it recorded first run on VHS. Pure nostalgia to me.
One of the best vocals from Madonna is Sooner or later Oscar's... She was amazing... Her voice was amazing... And she was extremely gorgeous that day...
There’s nothing to dislike about this performance - it’s AMAZING!! One of her best, if not the best live vocal performance by Madonna. To my knowledge she’s never really attempted the album version in this key after this performance. The other live versions of this song are still great, but this one is an A++++++
fun fact so this was her second take which Oprah had never before allowed as Madonna was so nervous. Madonna came out to the audience and said my manager said i need to do that one more time. Are you guys okay with it? the crowd cheered.
25 years later and this performance still gives me chills. Truly is no surprise to me why she is still the best selling female musical recording artist in history.
Knowing how she is afraid about this small performances, live shows, awards... She is always very nervous 'cause is not a enviroment where she have total control, this performance is just AMAZING! You can even seen how she was nervous at the first but I think Oprah and the audience helped a lot, she is very conected with the public energy. Man... I just love her, wish I could come to a live performance...
This was her best performance of this song by a long shot! It was spot on. Her future performances were in a lower key and not as good. This was epic! 👐🏼
I’m a huge Madonna fan and for me her live tours our everything . 2001 was her next tour “World Drowned Tour” in that tour she performs ray of light tracks and Music Album tracks. Hope you cover the tours soon. Her tours are iconic! You see why she’s who she is .
THIS. This right here has been my favorite live performance of hers, since the moment this aired. I’ve seen her live at each tour from 1990 to 2015, and this tops them all for me. Such an incredible vocal performance from her, never fails to give me goosebumps….especially that last “she’s got herself a univerrrrrrrse” ❤️❤️❤️
That was incredible! She was on fire there. Her voice was powerful and you could tell it was also years after her vocal training for Evita. It was fresh and the training was evident in this performance.
I love this live version more than the album version!!! The performance is all stripped down. No set. No backup dancers. Just Madonna and her hair. Yes her hair was like another performer, lol! She's so beautiful. Man, this performance should have won an award or something!! Brava Madonna!!!!
I remember running home from work to catch this live and I was just blown away. I rewatched it over and over. This was her emergence after Evita back to her own pop style and people questioned whether she could still attain the highs of her pop career. She totally answered with Ray of Light and this amazing performance. Awesome reaction 👏👏
This vocal performance came on the back of her singing lessons for Evita. This was the first time in her career that she had worked with a vocal coach. She worked with Joan Lader who is Patti Lu Pones vocal coach.
It wasn't the first time, Madonna had worked with vocal coach Seth Riggs prior to recording True Blue, he helped her sing in that deeper register on that album
Wow, indeed! That's the energy (and more!) you get from her concerts. I remember seeing that performance and was so impressed and also fascinated to see her evolution as an artist and human being. It was very touching, in fact. Still, I didn't become a bona fide fan until the Drowned World tour where she featured the albums Ray of Light and Music. That tour was awesome! Thanks for the reaction. Hope you give the album ROL another chance. : ) Have you reacted to EVITA yet?
As a long time Madonna fan, I taped this and watched when I got home from work. I about lost my mind when I saw this and watched it over and over again. I jumped all over the living room. That amazing performance, that incredible audience, Oprah hyping it…one of my proudest Madonna moments ever. Other than when I got a fist bump during Madame X tour.
when someone says 'madonna can't sing', what theyre really saying is they just dont like her and undrmining her vocals and her talent is the best they can come up with. they know what theyre saying is rubbish cos when pressed to give reasons why they say that they can't. she has a wonderful ability to express so much emotion, she's incredibly versatile having sung more genres than anyone else. she's an especially strong balladier. much stronger technical singers arent nearly as captivating or entertaining
I agree but I have to say I was at Drownd world tour and saw it in Vegas at MGM and she was pretty amazing live with Ray of light . In fact that concert was vocal perfection.
@@brianmichaels5112 I wish I had gotten to see the Drowned World Tour.. but I didn't have enough money for a ticket... I would have seen her in Ft Lauderdale, the night before her birthday.. but I've seen every tour since Reinvention
Her best live vocal performance ever. It's astounding. It was a little downhill from here as the MTV VMA's weren't good, nor The Power of Goodbye. She recovered with DWT 2001 but never the same (like this).
Madonna had an album called Something to Remember which she released as a collection of previously released ballads and one new song which I didn’t see you cover. The name of the song is “You’ll See”. An underrated song and video in my opinion. There was also the You Can Dance album which had remixes of all of previously released works plus one new number called Spotlight. That is more of a nostalgic song for me. But it would have been nice to see you cover those songs too. You should check out her Drown World Tour in which she does cover the the majority of the Ray of Light album.
