Thanks Derbador. I'm going to use that tip to do a dry run around the outside. I've had some struggles getting aluminum to weld up nice. I have the ahp 201xd . It's been a good reliable machine too.
For future reference, if you want to keep the wind away from you while your tig welding outside build yourself a wind block with tarp and 2x4s its worth it to get clean weld on something as critical as a fuel cell.
I dont know that i would want to touch aircraft repairs either. Do you charge triple your rate and does your insurance cover aircraft? Good pointer on dry running around the cracks.

Same thing I do but I always throw a scab plate over it
Did you have to wash those tanks with something special to remove the fuel residue before welding?
Just used some acetone around the area I was going to weld
