    Man.. the wall pushes in inlines are awesome, but they make me cringe in ice skates! Be nice to that blade, Bill! :P

  • @Johro66

    I had the same experience, felt juddery at first, wobbly, skates seemed to have a mind of their own and "twitch" left and right when I was gliding on them, but I ironed it out, and from then on it felt comfortable. Had a similar experience on the power stops too, they seemed to dig in a lot at first, threatening to tip me over on my face.
    Yeah. Fun.
    But, that soon got better too, when I figured out my angles, I needed to be lower. My ice skating is fast! Scared myself on a few occasions. But yes, so much fun. And all this on crappy hire skates.
    I'm debating whether to get myself a decent pair of hockey skates, (not really much sense in it, the small ice rink is available for a few weeks, this time of year) or some blades to fit to my seba fr1's.
    I think the blades will win out, as it's only occasional use. And we don't get winters cold enough to freeze lakes, ponds, rivers.
    Here it just rains, ha..
    Nice video, enjoyed it.

    That must have felt great! That spin you did to avoid falling could easily turn into a figure skating move! Happy Christmas to you & Mrs. Stoppard!

    Thanks for this video! I predominantly play ice hockey (30+ years) & am tinkering with 3 wheel inline for summer holidays down here, plus teaching my kid skating mechanics on inline. I was really concerned about the transition back & forth but you have set my mind at ease. Thanks for getting on the ice again.

    Great analysis Bill
    Last time I was ice skating, I noticed that it was more comfortable for me to go backwards than forwards. Strange feeling.

    i bought inline skates when i was 18 but skated only for a few times. then i took a break started figure skating at 20 but im more comfortable on ice than the road lol. i guess after learning ice i will be a better inline skater because i have learned to take risks on ice now i will be more confident on road. btw could you put more ice tutorials thank you!

    I think this will be the year that I give the ice a try... I wonder if magic slides are a thing I feel like the edges would catch if you dont go low enough... one way to find out I guess 🤣😂🤣

    • @ruedaelmundo57
      @ruedaelmundo57 6 років тому +3

      Commuter Mike the magic slide is not really a trick on ice skating but it’s always fun to try rollerblading tricks on ice 👌. Btw it’s easier to do it tho.

    Luckily I live in an environment where I can skate year round. I skate almost everyday and practice hockey with my son. I also ice skate with him on the weekends. We go to free skate and puck shoot. I guess since I'm pretty much transitioning from both weekly all year I don't feel much difference. He skates more than I do with hockey practice 3 nights a week along with our skates and practices, he claims to have no problems switching.

    Thanks for pointing out the balancing on the balls of your feet. Almost every tutorial video I've seem for hockey stops makes no mention of it. "Just start shaving the ice," they say. Doesn't work, even standing still and trying to glide one foot. It just bites into the ice and stops immediately.

    I wonter if alternating between blades and wheels will make you a better rollerblader. But then again, I can only ice skate where I live in the winter when they open the ice skating halls.

    As some already pointed out... Why the wall kicks? How does that work? Is it some kind of training for future situations? Is this some kind of wall shaming? Are you practising a low profile technique? I am deeply intrigued by this.

    • @BillStoppard
      @BillStoppard  6 років тому +4

      It came from two situations. Rounding a corner in an alley too quickly and needing to push of an oncoming wall; Skating in icy areas where the only surface I could push off was vertical. I also like having a strong side kick on skates.

  • @sadville13

    I have been ice skating for a about 4 months and I bought some inline skates as well.
    I feel really weird on inline skates, I can't glide around like I do on ice skates.
    The inline skates feel like the grip a whole lot more than ice skates.

    I was curious if you ever tried the Marsblade chassis? It is supposed to be the best for hockey players... but, does it give you some of those benefits you felt on the ice on the street? Hmmmm... very interesting?

  • @ajborowski
    @ajborowski 5 років тому

    Bill, I’m wondering if you’ve heard of, used, and perhaps have already given impressions on MarsBlades? They’re holders for your in lines that articulate ever so slightly from toe to heel. I am a hockey player trying to become more proficient on wheels so that I can enjoy city skating - and the marsblades are tempting having tried them at the LHS, but I’m wondering if they will compromise my ability to do things like power stops? Happiness and Health!

  • @DifeiYao
