BILL, I JUST LEARNT TO POWER STOP IN 2 MINS! The back foot awareness was the key for me, everything else just fell into place- as you said it would. Spent another 5 mins practicing inside before taking it out to the tar and the inside training translates very well when taken outside. I've learnt to skate because of you. From Cape Town, South Africa- many thanks :)
I can see my self trying this, and the the misses giving me an evil look like wtf are you doing in the house. I don't think bill told me to do it is going to fly.... 😂😂
I really appreciate the detail you provide. The tip about cranking your back foot over and driving with your feet, hips, and glutes (1:08 - 1:56) has been key to me finally making some progress with this technique. Thank you!!
Thank you for making me want to improve even more. I've started learning alone for 6 month an d i'm 53 years old. It's never late to achieve any goal! I'm the first inline skater who pratice in the city of Setúbal, in Portugal, west of Europe!:)

WOW that was so helpful! I actually thought the outer leg did all the work for you and treated this more like a plow stop. Mind blown! Imma try all those tips now for sure! Thanks Bill! xx
I'm so glad this video exists. I love my roller blades as a method of transportation but I live in a very dangerous city where almost no one respects cyclists or skaters. I've been worrying about getting hit by a car AGAIN. The explanation is great, I'll practice it as soon as my leg recovers from the fracture that the last accident caused (it happened when cycling tho). Thanks a lot!!!!!!
Just watched your "what to expect when switching from inline to ice skate" video and was about to search how to powerstop tutorials and then this got recommended in the end of the video xd. No better man to learn to stop from than STOPpard

I took many hits on my hips recently falling on my skates . Bought some protective pants to deal with the problem. At first I felt lame for wearing this extra protection but when I saw that even you use pants like this I know it can't be a bad idea. Thanks for sharing your experience.
This video is pure gold. I've been trying to work on the power stop but have only been able to do power slides because I was focusing more on the front foot. Will turn my focus to the back one now. Thanks!
Roller blading has changed my body composition so much !!!! I love it . Thanks Bill for the tips , im still using performance skates, but I'll get there!

Thanks for this. I never could quite get a good stop with this tech and it seems to be cause I was focused on carving with the outside foot. Gonna drive down the inside foot as you showed and hopefully that'll open me up to a more aggressive skating.
Nice! I've been stringing together some p-stop tips during my daily exercise allowance skate bouts. I totally agree - it's all about nailing that 1st foot. I always rate my power stops based how little energy is transferred to my 2nd foot. It tends to get all the credit however as it makes all the noise!
Hey Bill, thanks a lot for this video! Ive always been wary of power stops and slides, never could get my head round them on big wheels coming from an aggressive background. Took these tips to my local empty car park and put them into practice and finally made some progress, focusing on the heel turn was definitely the key. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this explanation. I have been trying this unsuccessfully but, after hearing about where my weight should be and where the slide is supposed to be happening , I think I can figure it out now. :)
Was drilling this in the park til I was confident. Went down a hill, overthought it, panicked and the rest was history lol. Good job I was wearing knee pads.
Can do the powerstop on right turns and the powerslide on left turns. Gues i need to practice my stops more. They are so important. Once you master them, you are so much more confident and safer in the streets! Thanx for the tutorial.
Thanks!! Gonna try this tomorrow after work. I've been mulling over the thought of whether or not to get into it and seeing some of your content pushed me to do it. Not regretting it. It's definitely fun now that I can do left crossovers and basics, but I need to strengthen my right side skills now.
One suggestion: I'm a yt learner and I often find myself switching to video speed 0x25. It would be good, especially when making beginner tutorials, to incorporate slow motion sections in your vid. If not in the middle, put them at the end of your video, if you r scared that people will abandon watching the vid, beginners won't for sure. Thanks for the tutorial 🙂
I've never got the PowerStop quite right. I manage to do a drag to power-slide kind of thing that has helped me a lot in the past. I fell like the tips you shared here were the missing steps for me to get it, i can't wait to go and try it out. Sadly my apartment is a tad too small to try and do this on the inside, and I don't really fell comfortable going outside just to skate right now, but when I can i will drill it to kill it! Also, thank you for the workout videos, they're helping a lot in keeping active in this times!
Thanks L, yes, I feel like this is the missing link in my stop tutorials. Great to hear you used the workout vids...a few of us will not come out of this sloppy!!!
Good explanation. When i watched other video guides i was thinking that another foot is important so i tried to learn powerstop by kinda riding around left foot and didn't have any control over my stop. Will try it tomorrow, i felt enough times for today, need some rest. And i have a question for people (mostly Polish, because i see this kind of bycycle roads everywhere). Is there a stopping technique that is not recommended on pavement blocks? I am just thinking if powerslide for example will not be interrupted by the gap between blocks and potentially lead to injury?
I want to buy the Aeon 80. But I have doubts if it is possible to brake and skid at high speed, I think that the soul plate can hit the ground if the feet are tilted too much. Could you tell me about your experience please?
Bill, thanks for the video! What hardness of wheels do you recommend for indoor use (rink) to not eat the wall when doing a powerstop? would 80mm/80A (200 lb rider) be too soft and grippy?
Hi Bill, I wonder if you would consider doing a vid on wheels, I have seen you using 85a to 90a, I would love to know your thoughts on longest wearing and whether the harder wheels are worth the compromise on grip. I would just try myself but it's an expensive experiment if the 90a are not worth it. Also your thoughts on rockering may be valuable to people unsure on what skates to get, I started on full rockered after the skate shop advised them, but have just bought flats as I keep getting wheel wobbles at speed. Just some thoughts, keep up the great vids, you have been hugely inspirational and informative.
Hi Bill, looking to get a rollerblade online. Should I go down a size small than my regular walking/every day shoe? Sidenote: I am a beginner. Some video ppl go down a size others say get your shoe size. Looking at the twister by rollerblade if that helps, thanks.
Nice video, thanks. Which leg is you dominant leg? I used to skate aggressive and do the royal slide, so i tend to think i should have my right (dominant) leg underneath me for the powerslide as well. But unless you're left legged, you're doing it opposite..?
How do those aeon 80 fit?? I have the flying eagle f5s and they really rub up against my my inner arch to where I get a blister! Do you know of any ways to help stop that from happening? Thanks!
Your powerstop has also some elements of a parallel slide in it, am i right? This could be the stop iam searching for quite a while because most sliding stops are not really possible on aggressive skates because of the soulplate hitting the ground
Master, thank you for the lesson. I have a question not related to the subject, anyway, there you go: Many people use skateboards as a means of transportation. Skates could be the same if there were easy to put on and take off. Imagine you going to take a bus or subway and you need to seat to take off the skates and wear your shoes yet Nowere to sit, or going into a building, whatever place you need shoes. Is there any skates to wear over shoes, easy to put on and take off?
So I've recently learned to do this in particular but it's nowhere near graceful when doing it on rough streets. I practically learned with you, Tiago and Ricardo Lino's videos. BTW I currently have a right wrist injured from falling cuz I never learned how to properly fall lol
Thank you for the video! Could you briefly emphasize the text in the video or in the comments, what should you pay attention to when doing this braking? I don’t know English, so it’s not entirely clear from the video what I’m doing wrong. My rollers either stick into the asphalt and as a result - fall, or it turns me around.
Hey Bill, how lose or how hard do you tighten your top buckle? In your Aeons it looks quite lose, that's why I'm asking. I'm a beginner and and I'm really unsure on how tight I should fix the buckles and straps. I skate on some RB twister 231 for city/urban skating and Powerslide Swell Black City for fitness. Thanks in advance
hah I know how you feel I learned everything on a pair of RB 110s.. but Don't worry you'll come out a beast once you get everything down & going from 3x110 to like 4x80 is so easy.. Stay safe & when in doubt Skate it out!
@@wolfiezsnb8824 Yeah, i fell a lot. But maybe thats what skating is about, its about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward (Rocky Balboa) haha.. Thanks man, i will not giving up, and I really hope i'll come out a beast after i mastered 3x110.
As somebody who started on RB 84's and is thinking of buying a pair of RB 110's, just go to a smooth location and practice drag(T) stops. Since those don't come with a rear brake, you have to get that down first. Once you get that down, you can slow down from any speed to something that you're comfortable with power stopping. I went and bought some cheap 76 mm, 86A wheels from amazon to learn to power stop. But before that, I would stop by just going into a super sharp spin that mimics the rotation of a power stop but I would just keep spinning about 270 degrees, then stop. You could do that first. Just work your way up to the fastest you can go from straight into a rotation to stop. Then, when you go to the power stop, you focus on keeping that pivot leg like Bill's but you put a lot of pressure on the outside foot as soon as it reaches parallel to your inside foot. If you angle it too much the foot will slide a foot or so. I just went to an indoor garage and practiced this for 30 minutes and started getting the hang of it. An hour later I could repeatedly do it at low speeds. So now, my practice sessions are a quick 5 minute warmup then practice T stops into a power stop.
I think 100 would be the best if your are looking for bigger size. 110 and 125 is difficult due to the high speed. I switched from 84, to 80, 84 to 90 to 110. 84 is easy to learn but hard to fight against the urban hurdles... (Depending on which city you are living in) 76-80 is a bit slow to me if you have to drive up a hill it's far easier to just walk. (I'm really not a aggressive skater) 90 fast, you can drive urban but 4x90 lacks on mobility. Thats why I took 3x110 I love the speed the mobility is about the same than 4x90. But it's getting extremely hard to control them downhill. I think my sweet spot would have been 3x100.
@@YSPDJapan I wouldn't recommend doing a lot of T-Breaks. You are destroying your wheels extremely fast. On some models you can buy a heel break extra.
I find myself doing almost complete 180 degree turns when doing this although it looks fancy and as if I do it on purpose I want to stop on a dime like how bill does, only been skating for about 3 hours tho lol I’m sure it’ll get sharper
Small suggestion: when you take the camera in your hand to film how your feet move, it would really help me if you could show the move first at normal speed and then at reduced speed. In this video I would like to be able to examine what your hind foot is doing when you push your heel. Many thanks
Helmet is a good idea, even if it doesn't seem necessary. The one time I didn't wear a helmet while practicing I had two bad falls. I think it's because I'm not turning my back foot enough while training my weak side. Spun and slammed my head twice in a row. Had a minor concussion that took about a week to heal. This was even after I felt I had made good progress on my weak side. Definitely not a good time.
Been looking for some blades to pass the time these days. And geez I can’t find any good looking or even kinda cool skates in a size 13!! Any site help??
Nice one Bill, this was exactly what i was looking for. I just got myself some Powerslide Phuzion Krypton 100mm Trinity skates, inspired by your Flying Eagle skates. The wheels are 85A, are these ok for achieving this stop? ATB Marti
If you want slide you’ve gotta get your leading skate way lower. Almost on the side of your skate. It’s all about sliding at speed. Watch Rollerblade GM diaries video series. Greg is really good at sliding at big speed on any surface. If you find a good shot of him doing one try and stop the frame. You’ll see he’s about as low as you could get your skate on the ground without the wheels coming off the ground. This is the reason he can side so far at speed and not lose it. The angle of attack is so low. Any higher and you will bite into the ground and trip yourself. This is okay at almost no forward speed. But it won’t help you if you’re going fast. How to learn this? Skate one one foot. Slide the other foot in a circle while staying really low and get that skate way leaned over and staring to slide way out in front. So get used to the point where the skate slides. You’ll see at speed it slides fairly easy. Oh... and one more thing... stay low. Thanks Bill.
It is possible with higher angle, but you have to put more power in the leading skate (ramming it into the ground) for the same effect and some leg muscles to keep the skate sliding. Thats why it is a lot easier on smooth surfaces. Aggressive skates only allow a certain angle before the soulplate hits the ground and you slip out. So you fall everytime at high speed if you instinctiv choose a lower angle :-/

hey, about to buy first inline skates, have ice skated b4, looking at twister xt and in toronto? any recommendations?
You play stratocaster? Nice color!
Thank You, i really need this tutorial. I'm struggling coz i bought 110 skates for my first skate n it turns out its a lot harder than i expected. 😅
hah I know how you feel I learned everything on a pair of RB 110s.. but Don't worry you'll come out a beast once you get everything down & going from 3x110 to like 4x80 is so easy..
(Depending on which city you are living in)
76-80 is a bit slow to me if you have to drive up a hill it's far easier to just walk. (I'm really not a aggressive skater)
90 fast, you can drive urban but 4x90 lacks on mobility.
May I am learning from Four Maths from Pawar stop but still not able to teach what is the region please help me please
I just barely came across this video. After I practiced this in my kitchen despite my wife saying I was scuffing the floors 😝
Top demais 👊🏼👊🏼
I find myself doing almost complete 180 degree turns when doing this although it looks fancy and as if I do it on purpose I want to stop on a dime like how bill does, only been skating for about 3 hours tho lol I’m sure it’ll get sharper
Small suggestion: when you take the camera in your hand to film how your feet move, it would really help me if you could show the move first at normal speed and then at reduced speed. In this video I would like to be able to examine what your hind foot is doing when you push your heel. Many thanks
Can you do a video about HI LO setups and what you like and dislike. Please
BTW your skates look sick
Helmet is a good idea, even if it doesn't seem necessary. The one time I didn't wear a helmet while practicing I had two bad falls. I think it's because I'm not turning my back foot enough while training my weak side. Spun and slammed my head twice in a row. Had a minor concussion that took about a week to heal. This was even after I felt I had made good progress on my weak side. Definitely not a good time.
Yes a helmet is a good idea until this stop is owned.
Love that man! I had to struggle it out & get some nice scars on my left leg before I figured it out..
@@wolfiezsnb8824 Good to hear it man. Take care and keep rolling.
Naphtali I agree
