actually, he was scheduled to master the song (with Steve Cropper) the week after the crash ..... they called Steve and he did a rush job on it to capitalize on the tragedy (and as a tribute to Otis) .... he never heard the finished product ....
I hope I dont' piss off too many people when I say this, but it's truly the way I feel. Genres are for small minded people. If you only listen to one or two types of music, you're missing out. Most of the song on today's list are songs I haven't heard in years, and they reached inside and touched my soul. I honestly loved every minute of it. MollyBoy, keep the variety coming. Keep expanding. If people don't like it, you don't need them in your life anyway. The true music fans will help get you to 100K
@Ki11erAce totally. The small minded don't understand the path music has taken to get to the type of music they listen to. Fools. They're the ones missing out.
The only bad thing about growing up with this era of music is, there was so much that was good, of all genres, that you had a hard time listening to all of it!
I never thought you'd be reacting to old R & B and Soul but you dig deep on this channel. That's what makes you worth watching. This has been one of my favorite songs of all times since I first heard it in the late 60's. And you're right. It is the best sing-along song ever.
I agree with Try a Little Tenderness!! Not with These Arms of Mine. But he produced about 8 albyms....hard to find but omg they were incredible. Hard to find nowadays....if not impossible.
I'd love to see you react to Bill Withers. One of my favourite soulful voices. Some of his songs I'd recommend: grandma's hands, ain't no sunshine, lovely day, use me, lean on me. Also for some powerful female singers you can't go wrong with Etta James and Aretha Franklin.
Bill Withers showed up one day and recorded some of the best R&B ever recorded, then snuck out the back door to live a private life out of the spotlight. I respect that he made that choice for himself. He has THE most underrated voice, IMO
Marvin Gaye 'I Heard It through The Grapevine', ' Whats Going On' and Jimmy Ruffin 'What Becomes of The Brokenhearted' are a must now. I love how you are loving the soundtracks of my life. Imagine turning on your radio in the 60's, 70's and 80's and hearing new songs of this caliber every single day. It was unbelievable. No auto-tune....just pure vocal talent. It was the best.
Otis' music was magic. Janis Joplin used to go and watch him regularly at his residency in LA and she quotes Otis' style, his manner of singing and his movements on stage were a huge influence on her. Dock of the Bay is a pretty slow tempo tune for Otis. His back catalogue has some bangers.
This song is from “1967” He died soon after recording it, didn’t live long enough to see how well this song did and that it’s still listened to after all these years!!!
If I don’t want to listen to whatever you’re reacting to, I’ll give it a miss & come back for the next one. I don’t need to make negative comments, your channel, your choice of music. My ears my choice what I use them for. Maybe others should give that sort of freedom a try?! Xx
Dude the #1 tune ever made in my opinion only!!!!! I can’t believe you found it and love it!!! Keep spreading those musical wings of yours!!!!!! There is soooooo much more!!! 😎🍸
Songs back in those days were short for radio play. They had a max of 3 minutes and got played more often if they were closer to 2. Got to get the max commercials in! 😮
MOLLYBOY, THIS SONG "SITTIN ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY" IS GOING TO GET STUCK IN YOUR HEAD FOR DAYSSSS!! I LEARNED THIS SOULFUL SONG IN THE 5TH GRADE MUSIC CLASS. GORGEOUS REACTION MOLLYBOY!! LEARN THE WORDS AND SING IT MOLLYBOY! THANK YOU THAT WAS AWESOME!! 😊💗🔥🤘✌️
Thank you for mentioning Sam Cooke. I purposely went to the comments to see if someone was gonna mention him. Tragically overlooked by today's listeners.
I will say mate that I’ve watched you from the beginning and Definitely have producer material and a great sense of harmony and timing. Definitely sing some Karaoke!!!! You do have a great voice from the little things I’ve heard from your little snippets. Rock on Mate and never stop…..Music is life.

One of my favorite singers, his voice was amazing. This song and Stand By Me are probably his most famous but A Change Is Gonna Come and These Arms of Mine are great as well. I know you appreciate a good vocalist...
His voice makes me melt! Two songs of his, These arms of mine, and I’ve been loving you too long, you should definitely listen to with Storm.❤️ Also love Try a Little Tenderness!
Gordon Lightfoot songs also have a similar story telling feel with a similar chill vibe. His songs - Sundown, also his song - If you could read my mind (love). Both chart topping classics slow and smooth.
One thing is for sure, and that is; No one is going to dislike Otis Redding!!. We all love him... Glad you tumbled upon him .... Dive in and find out more of him ... great reactions btw ... Cheerio from Down Under 🌺
I love that you can appreciate so many kinds of music. Like others, I would love you to give Bill Withers a listen. "Ain't No Sunshine" would be a great place to start. There are so many great soul artists. It would be cool if you can add a few in from time to time.
I am so very happy that you're taking the time to actually listen to where it all started per say. The genre of music and fabulous singers and groups was phenominal back then. There was also alot of good rock bands during this period. This is music that will never come back but will live on forever. I'm excited to go down this rabbit hole with. For me its very nostalgic. I'm 70 years old and what I grew up with so thank you.❤Stay safe

If you listen to the songs I collaborated with Otis, most of the lyrics are about him."
I love that you dive into anything, Otis was such a horrible loss. You have to watch him perform live, I've been loving you Monterey pop fest. Absolutely beautiful and such power
I love that you have taken me back to so many forgotten memories!❤ I can see myself sitting on the side of my bed swaying to this song! I also love that you are willing to go down unfamiliar roads! Just love watching your journey!!❤
I was a little kid when this came out. I remember my parents loved it and really identified with it. We lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and so many people like them moved from the Southern states to the Bay Area for work. Dad worked in the shipyards of the East Bay for quite some time. So it does have kind of a special meaning for me given our family history and now that my folks are gone. But yeah, Otis Redding had such a beautiful, southful voice. As far as the plane crashes - back then many artists had to travel from city to city promoting their songs on the various local radio stations, pretty much by order of their record companies. Usually a performance or two would be done in those cities as well. A lot of traveling and instead of tour busses or commercial airlines they took smaller light planes. So much flying in what is the most unsafe craft to do it in.
Oh this really got me today. I loved this as an 11 year old in the UK when it first came out then in 1985 after I’d met my American husband, I moved to the US, just outside San Francisco with him. I vividly remember the first time we went into the city and sat swinging our legs dockside, eating sour dough bread and fresh crab from Allioto’s at Fisherman’s wharf, and singing this song together. He passed away in 2018 and while this memory hurt today as I listened to it on your channel, I wouldn’t change it for anything. Thank you for your review and for your genuine appreciation of music. It doesn’t matter what era it’s from - If it speaks to you that’s all that matters.
Ah the Soul genre this is a feel good for me, if I'm pissed off, or sad I go to the beach and just sit and look at the sea. This song is often an earworm. Just calms you. Feels good. ✌️
Your comments on unexpected karaoke preparedness had me in stitches! So interesting to reflect on how context and experience has changed your listening appreciation. :)
In the 90s i was your age and immersed in 90s music but its also when I deep dived Otis Redding and old Soul Music. Particularly from the Stax records artists.
Thanks for taking the time to hear the music from earlier generations. The story is that when Otis recorded this, it had not been completely finished. He improvised with whistling because the rest of the lyrics were still being written. A classic that many people connected with at the time.
Otis is the master! His voice is unmatched! Would love to see your reaction to his song “Tenderness” its one of my all time favorite songs! He won’t disappoint! I have faith you will add it to your playlist!
Back in the day songs were short because the standard 10 inch 78 rpm record { pressed up until the early 60's for use in old juke boxes } only played for about 3 minutes per side. The short song format carried through the 45 rpm era even though the 45 could play longer. Wasn't 'till the 70's when 'album rock' started having longer tracks.
1968 my freshman year in college. One of our favorite songs to sing, 2. Whenever it came on the radio and back then. It was the only way you heard music was because of radio.
Not only did he die in the plane crash, but this was released posthumously. It was the first ever song released posthumously to reach #1 in the U.S.
Jim Croce's Time In A Bottle did the same in 1974.
Janis Joplin's "Me and Bobby McGee" did that too, but you're right, Otis did it before that.
"Try a Little Tenderness" by Otis. Molly Boy, you will be blown away.
I agree with this statement
An absolute must!!
Please, please give Joe Cocker a listen. You Are So Beautiful is awesome.
He may know that one - didn't Kanye sample it? Yea, it was Kanye & Jay-Z. Hate to give it away when he starts wondering why it sounds familiar!😊
Oh god yes. PLEASE do this one, MollyBoy. The arm hairs will stand up like never before.
Otis passed away very soon after recording this song at the age of 26. Far too young for a talent like this!
Plane crash.
His plane crashed into the icy waters of Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin about 30 miles from my hometown in 1967.
The Hard Rock in Vegas has a part of the plane. Ironically the part they have says, “Otis” 😢
My favourite song 💋💋💋
actually, he was scheduled to master the song (with Steve Cropper) the week after the crash ..... they called Steve and he did a rush job on it to capitalize on the tragedy (and as a tribute to Otis) .... he never heard the finished product ....

Try a Little Tenderness Live!!!
also "I've got dreams to remember." "Loving you to long" "pain in my heart." So many good ones!
Try a little tenderness is one of THE most passionate songs ever!
@@RichardSchaefer-zx9ig Especially if it's live at Monterey.
"I just want to sing along..." Yes. Exactly. The mellow soul side of the '60s.

“These arms of mine” is the Otis song that first hooked me. The story behind the recording session is nuts.
