- What a great day for an entirely different style of music on the channel. Today we're checking out The Charlie Daniels Band - The Devil Went Down To Georgia. You all know how I am when it comes to hearing incredible music, I live for it. The Charlie Daniels Band are a style of music I somehow feel like I never knew existed yet at the same time I feel like I recognise this style from somewhere. The Instrumentation in The Devil Went Down To Georgia is something that cannot be ignore. I have heard Violins played before but this was on a whole different level and that guitar, that guitar was just the cherry on top! I love find and listening to new music, even when it is as out there as The Devil Went Down To Georgia so please do not hesitate to throw more music like this at me. Especially if it is by The Charlie Daniels Band!

A violin has "strings", a fiddle has "strangs:".
This gets me every time!
This.
I was going to say the exact same thing
That's so fucking funny! I laughed 'til I cried!
It makes a huge difference in the sound between the two 😉
Charlie had a great heart.. My cousin Tim was on his death bed from cancer and Charlie came and headlined our county fair.. Tim was upset that he was too sick to go to see him.. Charlie got wind and came to his house met him and played a personal concert for him.. Tim was overwhelmed and really appreciated the great gesture.. Tim died a week after Charlie came to see him.. RIP Charlie and Tim... Charlie was a great and humble man..
No one touched him on the fiddle either.
I’m a grown man and this makes tears come out of my face. God Bless Charlie and Tim.
@bones1271 I'm so sorry for your loss and thank you for telling us about Tim and Charlie. It's acts of kindness like this that makes you realize how much goodness there still is in the world. Your story is heartbreaking but also incredibly uplifting too. Thank you.
Charlie was a great Christian. Raised millions for vets. Did USO tours. I live in his town in Tennessee and attended his memorial.
President Trump sent a video message and the governor had military copters fly over.
It's called country rock does Charlie Daniels with this song was number one on country stations in on the rock stations
"Fire in the Mountain" "Chicken in the breadpan" and "Granny does your dog bite" are all traditional Appalachian fiddle songs
Came here to say the same. Johnny makes a lot of cultural and regional references. A nice touch to mention all of these traditional songs while defeating the Devil. 😉
Oh! I knew none of these references ...so cool to learn new things!!
Congrats!!! To my niece Chatlotte! Who was just named 1st violin in the San Antonio Symphony!
That’s great!!
Fantastic! Your niece must be AMAZING! Good on her!
@Mr.PeabodyTheSkeptic congratulations to your niece. I love San Antonio
@@Mr.PeabodyTheSkeptic that’s huge! Big deal, big lots of roses!
That awesome. What an accomplishment!
Charlie had his own sound! This crossed over! Rockers loved it! Country fans loved it! Classic! RIP Charlie!
Exactly, and there's a heavy pop element too.
Agreed. I absolutely HATE country music but this is hind of a crossover with rock. It is a great song.
I remember this was played in bars in the 1980s. Not only country bars… you could hear The Talking Heads, the Clash or Madonna then Charlie Daniels right after!
I've never met or heard of a person who's heard this song and didn't like it. ❤
I would call it roots rock but many claim them as “theirs”.
This is called Southern Rock. Skynyrd, Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels! Saw all these guys opening and closing summer season at Pinecrest Country Club! Outside on a blanket in the sun like $4.50 for the whole day, i was about 15. Best times of my life, i swear im so lucky i grew up in the seventies!🥰❤️
He's playing a Fiddle just a bit sturdier than a violin I think.
This☝️
@@chrisdavis3869 I believe it's called a Viola. Slightly longer scale and larger body than a Violin...
Another American classic - even people who "hate country" love this particular song. It's universal.
At least here in the St. Louis area, the only radio station that played the Charlie Daniels Band when I was a teenager was KSHE 94.7 FM, the Rock station. Never heard CDB on the Country stations here until this song became a hit. To me CDB is a Southern Rock band, not strictly Country. For an even more Rockin' CDB, I recommend songs like "Birmingham Blues," "Midnight Wind," "No Potion for the Pain," "The Legend of Wooley Swamp," and "The South Gonna Do It Again."
@@michaelmcgowen8780 It's clearly a fusion of sorts, no doubt. I have no idea how country music aficionados would categorize it. Personally, I put it in the same grouping as Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" and Dolly Parton's "Jolene" - not because they sound anything alike, but because there are all "country" songs (from a rock aficionado's perspective) that nevertheless transcend any sort of genre partisanship.
@@BalbazaktheGreat My perspective is due to, in a significant way, where I first heard CDB. As I said, in the St. Louis area durig the 1970's, CDB was heard only on Rock station KSHE (which is still on the air). It was the same for Marshall Tucker Band and other artists that straddled the line between Rock and Country. Most Southern Rock artists' music was blend of Rock, Country, Blues, R&B, and Jazz. In the end, it's merely semantics as the music never truly fits into any neat category. During the early and mid-1970's KSHE would put on a free concert in Forest Park, the large city park in St. Louis. In 1974, that free concert was Rush and the Charlie Daniels Band.
@@michaelmcgowen8780 Oh, I understood your perspective the first time around. I held no intention of invalidating your experience - I hope it didn't come off that way; I wasn't disagreeing with you, so much as trying to say that for a lot of rock fans growing up in the 80s and 90s this was "country" to them, even though its pretty obvious that it's actually a mix. Of course, a lot of music combines different influences, but the causal listener doesn't always appreciate that. Anyway, I appreciate your comments.
This was a huge crossover hit. They played it on every radio station.
This song is one of my earliest memories of listening to the radio. I think I was 4 years old.
Charlie and Hank Williams Jr were huge crossovers
When they play it like that, it's a fiddle! A bit of bluegrass here. A southern genre. Very American!
Yeah and a bit of Celtic style too.
The style of music was originally brought over to the US from the UK by the English, Irish, Scots, Welsh people who settled in the American south.
Charlie was a Master Fidler from the hills of North Carolina
I LOL when Molly Boy paused and said, "This is the strongest accent I've ever heard".
@@torreyholmes7205 Hahahaha. Wait til he hears Jerry Reed. Thibodaux Louisiana can get rough to understand. Hahahaha.
@@kevincolestock7792 Ah, but it’s beautiful.
@@torreyholmes7205 Every time I visit family in the south I come home talking with the accent! Takes a week to be normal again!😅😂😝
@chrisweidner4768 without question. Always have loved Jerry. May he rest in peace.
The irony 😂😂😂
Not a violin or fiddle video, but I suggest TwoCellos playing Thunderstruck. Sheer talent but funny as well. I think you'll enjoy it... even as it blows your mind what these two gentlemen can achieve on their instruments. Of course, it works best if you remember the AC/DC song, but hey, another video to react to!
I love that video!
Oh yeah...totally second that🔥🔥🔥
Oh yes would love to see his reaction to that.
I wondered if someone would mention 2Cellos after he was asking about violins and other instruments. You beat me to it.
🙌💯 Came here to say this! Yes!! 🔥
Love that you're open minded enough to listen to different genres. What fun!
a true music lover needs to appreciate all genres of music
Charlie Daniels was an artist that crossed into two categories ... Southern Rock and Country ... he was considered firmly in both of them ...
"I done told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been." YESSSSSSSS. God, I love this song and get goosebumps every time I hear it.
This song is a prime example of good music knows no bounds and no labels
Charlie and my dad were friends. Heck of a guy RIP Charlie!
Oh WoW how **Beautiful** your Dad was a **Lucky** man indeed!
Years ago, when I was in the Army, stationed in Korea, Mr. Daniels came out into the field where we were training. I didn't get a chance to meet him, but guys who did said he was very cool. I remember seeing a picture of him playing an acoustic guitar somewhere out in the mountains of South Korea, near the DMZ. He certainly didn't have to visit at all, but to go to that extreme spoke volumes to me.
Your clear joy, brings ME so much joy. I adore you
Can't You See by Marshall Tucker Band
Yes! Also For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield.
Your facial expressions are the best. I get so much joy out of you listening to the music I grew up with and love so much. Thank you!
September 1, 1979, this show was in Saratoga Spring, upstate New York. A little over 2 hours later, our family home got a phone call around midnight. My father was a coach bus driver for the local company and someone needed an emergency coach bus to Alabama by the night evening. So my dad went. He came back 3 days later, wreaking yet of cannabis, with a huge bag of marijuana seeds and stories that make Willie Nelson's tour bus sound boring. My dad drove this band to their next show when their bus broke down, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, around 11-12pm. This song instantly was a staple in our household, and unfortunately, my dad died in an accident 6 months later.
I’m so sorry that you lost your dad, but you have an amazing story and I’m sure that your dad had a great time. R.I.P. to your dad ❤
My deepest condolences to you. One heck of a story!
What a precious story but I’m so sorry you lost your dad soon after. I know Charlie recognized and greeted him in Heaven when he passed years later. That’s just the kind of guy Charlie was and your Dad too.
Amazing story, rest in peace to your dad…
I’m so sorry for your loss. 😢😢😢
This was a hit among us rockers in the 70's. Cool song .🤟🤟🤟🤟👍
“Uneasy Rider,” and Long Haired Country Boy” are essential masterpieces, said by a fan whose favorite genre, by far is rock.
Uneasy Rider is awesome 😂❤
@ Indeed. Should of given it first billing. Think I will change my post. “And all that hair fell out from underneath.” All the best.
@@chrisweidner4768 yes, yes, Mollyboy, the ballad of the uneasy rider! Charlie Daniels, Damn I actually think I remember the words 70’s.
@ Yep. Part of who we are.
Definitely! I adore Uneasy Rider and can sing it all😂
The phrases Charlie is shouting out such as "Fire on the mountain run boys run...." are old folk fiddle tunes used to learn the fiddle. The phrases represent different rhythms and riffs.
Thank you that was helpful
@@Friend_Of_The_Muse but the next verse is my fav, “ Granny does your dog bite? “No child, no!”
I had the Great Honor of meeting Mr. Daniels after one of his shows. I put out my hand to shake his as I mumbled some pleasantries as I was completely Star Struck! Instead of taking my hand, me said, "Oh, come here, Darlin'" then he gave me the biggest bear hug ever! I cried with happiness as he then signed my programme. The nicest man!!

WOW! Lucky you!
@wendyryder2708 Thanks, Wendy. I was very lucky.
@maryl1785 Thank you, Mary. It's a great memory, that's for sure!
I appreciate your honesty in saying this is really not your type of music, but yet you appreciated how the instruments were played. Thank you.
It's all good, it all soaks in, it's all music history. The broader your scope, the more you can appreciate the styles you do like.
Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve has violins and it’s an awesome song
You have to call any violin played in country music a Fiddle. It’s an American culture thing and should be respected. A lot of fiddle music originates from Irish immigrants that settled in the Appalachian Mountains after the Revolutionary war.
Brought over by Irish and Scottish immigrants playing Celtic fiddle music which influenced Appalachian music.
@ I wanted to put more regions in, but I wasn’t sure who I was going to say Welsh. Do they get any credit?
@@bobsylvester88 They're definitely a Celtic people so I would imagine so
Ahem, not to split hairs here, but you do realise they also settled in the east coast of Canada. There is a reason we have a giant fiddle in Sydney, Nova Scotia😊
@@daxablo44 it’s interesting how everything mixed over here when Europeans appeared from various parts.
Try the Hu ... A Mongolian heavy rock band who play traditional instruments and do throat singing. I know that sounds mad but their music is something else.
They played Glastonbury last year.
Try Wolf Totem with the original video 😁
YES!!
Yesssssss😊
Total agreement with this ⬆️
Orange Blossom Special, all instrumental but, still good! It's from the movie " Smokey and the Bandit" and I believe it's both guitar and fiddle/ violin. Fast paced and great song!
In Urban Cowboy also 😊

So excited for this one!! I'm not a country fan but I LOVE that song!
@@inspiremagick I agree! Country boy can survive is another I like😁
Southern Rock - Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker Band, Allman Brothers etc.
Their " Legend of Wooley Swamp " is another great storytelling song. I just subscribed.
One of the spookiest songs ever! Definitely worth a reaction!
Yes, definitely this song.
When we were camping as kids, I was maybe q0 (early 90s) and telling ghost stories around the fire, my mother tried to pass off wooley swamp as her own. We loved it and gave her kudos but also gave her a hard time because of course we'd heard the story many times by then from her beat up cassette
If you want to dig deeper, I'd suggest Wooley Swamp and Long Haired County Boy
Down South, a violin is called a fiddle, and this is some toe-tapping foot-stomping square dance music if I ever hear one! Love your reaction Molly Boy--you crack me up with your enthusiasm! LOL!!!!
We don’t call the all fiddles. Only if it’s in country or blue grass. In a symphony it’s still a violin.
I used to blare this song on my Fisher Price record player when I was a kid. My parents didnt buy me a violin.
Hahaha 😊
Fisher-Price record player kids stand up!!
🎻👍👍
Gosh I had one of those players too. It was for my third birthday in 1971. I have a video of me running from my parents to it sitting on a table. My little brother liked it too and we were very good at being careful with it playing 45s. 😂. Thank you for reminding me.
Our little boy used to sneak away with mommy's Led Zeppelin albums and play them on his F-P record player. Was he raised right?
Iconic. And the goose bumps came out on this one. I saw Charlie Daniels Band in Saratoga. Don't remember the year though. This song has been in advertisements for years. In today's world, this guy was spittin' bars.
"Devil Went Done to Georgia" the one song everyone reacts to. Can't help but love it, you go crazy along with the audience 😜 🤪, Charlie and his band outdo themselves Epic performance. Peace 😊✌️ Gary 😈
I have a very southern accent. Lived in Tennessee my whole life. Anytime I go up north, people love it and keep asking me to talk…bless their hearts😂
Very nice! This one's a country banger.its cool your open minded and welcome all types of music. II really enjoy ur channel😁👍😁
70s Classic Country ! This song was a big Hit!! RIP Charlie!!
This used to be on the radio a lot as I was growing up. Great tune 👍
This fiddle playing is epic! This tune is played by music fans of pretty much any genre, no matter what they usually listen to. It's just that 'catchy' and stays with you. Great reaction! RIP Charlie!
The world of music is frikkin awesome
Gross UNDERSTATEMENT!
Music is pure magic. I cannot imagine life without it. 😊
I'm 65 yo. First time hearing this song. The Fiddle is like guitars in 'Crossroads' A real great Song!
Hi Mollyboy. I played violin as a young lad and yes, it's frightfully hard. Any fretless instrument requires a high level of precision and a very keen ear to know if you are exactly on the pitch or not. I wasn't good, so I gave up and later on in life I learned the guitar, which is much easier.
Loving your channel. Thanks for all you do.
What a musician! What a story teller! What a human being! I was lucky enough to see him live! There will never be another... R.I.P.
Most metalheads love Charlie Daniel's. Hank Williams Jr. is another country artist that crosses alot of fanbase.
Another great reaction MollyBoy. 100k on the way.
Hank Williams Jr 'A Country Boy Can Survive' & Charlie Daniels 'Simple Man' 👍
Long Haired Country Boy
Metalheads go for stuff like outlaw country (Johnny Cash, David Alllen Coe, Hank jr. Hank III) folk country/songwriters (Townes Van Zandlt) and bluegrass/instrumentalists (Billy Strings, Colter Wall, Tyler Childers). Not so much of top 40 radio or pop country.
@@caseyjones9359 Mollyboy would lose it over David Allen Coe's "Rodeo song" 🤪🤪🤪 ... "The Ride" is a great classic that Molly needs to check out
I think that the reason it reminds you of The Simpsons is that there was an episode of Futurama that basically did this story. Leela ended up hitting the robot devil over the head with the golden fiddle.
MollyBolly if your doing country...try the best country singer today Chris Stapleton - Tennessee Whiskey (Austin City Limits Performance) unbelievable vocals, soulful voice🔥
He does have an amazing voice. Have you heard the song I’d rather go blind by Etta James?
I completely agree. I also love his live performance of Cold, and his incredible performance with Justin Timberlake, doing Tennessee Whiskey, and Drink you Away
Tennessee Whiskey is ABSOLUTELY a must hear!
No
I played the violin for 4 years in school, and doing what Charlie does is verrrry hard. Genius level.
I don’t know any other Charlie Daniels song other than this one but this one is a classic!!!
Try out Uneasy Rider. It's great!
Love Charlie Daniels! He’s fabulous he’s one of the greats!
Primus did a great cover of this.
“Long Haired Country Boy”.
I remember this song from the movie "Coyote Ugly" with the girls dancing on the bar. Great song and movie!!🎵🎼🎶🎻🎻🎻
That's what I thought when he did "Pour Some Sugar On Me" by Def Leppard!
I saw him at least 7 times , always a great show.
Yes ! I had the absolute pleasure of seeing him live, here in Florida many years ago. Incredible talent, and such a patriotic soul.
Love CDB. His body of work is massive and goes from comedy to soul wrenching tear jerkers and everything in between. If you want a rabbit hole to go down, this would be a great one.
Absolutely loved your expressions - both at the beginning and when Charlie started "sanging" !!! It's a true classic (one of a kind), and your reaction was an A+!
This is commonly referred to as Country Rock, or sometimes as Bluegrass. The violin is called a fiddle in southern music.
Heavy Bluegrass?
There is a follow up to this song, featuring Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart and Marc O'Conner and Charlie Daniels. Called the "Devil Comes back to Georgia" it's the revenge match...
Great reaction, thank you! ❤️💛 💚 🇸🇪
RIP Charlie saw him live and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
I've always considered them Southern Rock. You should do the Legend of the Wooley Swamp.
We saw the Charlie Daniel’s Band in concert years ago and Charlie literally does shred his fiddle every concert. By the end of the concert he had multiple strings hanging off the bow! They put on an awesome concert, just one song after another. The whole band is talented. Charlie was such a down to earth guy, very nice man, he was good to his fans as he knew they paid for him to play the kind of music he wanted to play and made him wealthy. He became a Christian later in life and was a staunch outspoken Christian and patriot of the USA. Loved Charlie Daniel’s. You should listen to his song The Woolley Swamp and Simple Man. ❤
You would probably be suprised how many of us here have that accent. Charlie Daniel's is country but this song transcends genres. ❤
My dad was friends with Charlie. He was a great guy and one hell of a patriot and talent. I was actually at this show. It was my first concert and first time I met Charlie. I was about 7 or 8 and when he met us in his room backstage and took his hat off i remember being so shocked that he was as bald as he was. Lol. Good times back then. RIP dad and Charlie!
2 Cellos, Thunderstruck. That's shredding!
...or Apocalyptica playing Metallica!
This concert was recorded at a famous outdoor amphitheater in Saratoga Springs, New York. When I was in graduate school I worked as a ranger, and we ran parking for the concerts. This is not traditional country music, but it certainly is country. Definitely ahead of its time. As a person now nearing 70 I grew up during the amazing musical period during the 60's and 70's. So much fun watching your musical journey into new genres. I am enjoying the journey with you. Keep expanding your horizons.
Charlie was a true legend. His music was universally accepted by rockers and country fans. If you like Charlie's rap, check out "Uneasy Rider"!
It is one of the hardest stringed instruments to play. I learned to play as a kid, my grandfather was a champion fiddle player. That lead me to enjoy music from Pantera to Paganini. Glad you enjoyed it!!
I saw some comments about The Legend of Wooly Swamp, which is a banger. I love Uneasy Rider by him just for the rediculousness of it.
THIS was SUCH A HUGE HIT, when it came out: and, I STILL DIG IT!!! Charlie Daniels is AWESOME!! THANKS, MOLS!!! :)
Not so much The Charlie Daniel's Band but would love to see you react to other country artists. I didn't think I would like country music but they are great story tellers. Give it shot, you might end up liking some of it.
I saw Charlie Daniels band at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix Arizona in the late 70's. The venue is in the round so the round stage turns in a circle as the concert goes on. Had 3rd row seats. Was so fn awesome, i was so close i could see his face under his hat...lol.
Ole Charlie was a real goat!!!
Country or Southern Rock, came out in 1979 and still played on both classic country and classic rock radio stations today. Great reaction, and Charlie Daniels is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
I was going to ask you to try country music. But it's something that I thought you wouldn't do. If you want to hear SOUL and Guitar listen to Chris Stapleton Tennessee Whiskey. You won't regret it.
@@lauracagle3078 wholeheartedly agree. I'm not a country western fan but there are a few that move me. Chris Stapletons bluesy vocals for one. Johnny Cash is another.

Uneasy Rider...You'll laugh and love it!! Also Long Haired Country Boy!!!
It's southern rock at it's finest, Declan!!
The late, great Charlie Daniels is legendary and this is one of his greatest hits. I recall hearing that the difference between violins & fiddles (apart from the way they're played) is the material from which the strings are made.
This is country rock! He has LOTS of hits! You gotta play "In America" and "Uneasy Rider"!!!!!!!!
It's so fun watching you youngsters discovering these songs. It came out before you were even born. You don't find anyone more country than Charlie Daniels although this song topped every chart
Give the Legend of Wooley Swamp a try is 100% pure rock and roll
Charlie was his own genre & an amazing human being!
For something different, but more like this, try "2 Cellos" Thunderstruck AC/DC cover, you'll be glad you did!
One of the great songs of all time. Any genre. Just amazing. I hope this goes on the playlist.
"Ashes are Burning". The group Renaissance. Progressive rock. Check,it,out
I live in Nashville and Charlie Daniels lived about 20 from me. A couple of facts about him, when he was inaugurated into the Country Music Hall of fame one of the local country radio air personalities pitched a bit of a fit because he didn't consider CDB to be country. He's probably in between Southern Rock country, but really it's a style all of his own. He played in Murphy Center at Middle Tennessee State U. (my alma mater) in the 1970's and he recorded a live album there along with the Marshall Tucker Band and others. It was open seating and when the doors were opened people were running across the top of the backs of the chairs to get the best seats. People were shoving and fighting and it was the last open seating event there.
Please give a listen to Bob Seger live album, Nutbush city limit. If you don’t love this one, I’ll quit bugging you.
This is music from my childhood. I can't help but smile every time I see someone from your generation react to it and really enjoy it. Suggestions for Charlie Daniels beginners; "Legend of Wooley Swamp", "Long Haired Country Boy", "Uneasy Rider", "In America", "Still In Saigon". Those should get you started. Just remember that Charlie was an American Patriot and the time was the early to mid '70s. Other Southern Rock bands to check out, Marshall Tucker "Fire On The Mountain", Lynyrd Skynyrd "Simple Man", The Allman Brothers "Whipping Post". You can't go wrong. Blessed Be
Lots of people argue that the devil actually won the contest! Lol
Great reaction! I am 55 years old, and I remember this song came out when I was in primary school. As children we loved it, and I still do. This song has legs, 40 some years later people still love to listen to it. Charlie Daniels was a master of the fiddle. I believe that Violins and Fiddles are the same it's just how they are used. Country folk call it the fiddle. I really enjoy your reactions and the number of videos you review. I know you work hard, and it's appreciated. Cheers from the great western state of Idaho, USA.
Saw him in the late 80s at thqe state fair. He closed the show with this song, and jumped down off the stage and ran around the arena playing his fiddle when he did. The rodeo queen contestants took a photo with him, as we did all the performers, and he dismissed our photographer, rearranged us to suit himself, and used his own photographer for the photos. We then took and individual photo, and I fit rather neatly under his arm, cowboy hat and all. An interesting experience, if not wholly pleasant. He had just played an energetic hour show in the heat.
Been a huge fan for 40 plus years, saw Charlie live in Hartford Conn. WAY back in 1982 welcome to the club!
That’s how I talk , brother! I’m happy you enjoyed old Charlie , he was one hell of a nice guy. Outlaw Country !
The radio version that crossed over said, “I told you once, you son of a gun, I’m the best that’s ever been” so it was always fun when he said “Bitch” live. 😅
Country Rock! Good to see you enjoying Charlie Daniels.
This is one of those rare songs that stayed famous for decades and still plays on the radio today!!!!
This is one of my daddy's fave bands....always called it southern rock.....
