This song...this song...it was recorded and technically not even finished when he went to play his show in Madison, Wisconsin...he had planned to return to it after a few shows...this was released posthumously after his death...he was only 26 and accomplished so damn much...
When my daughter, Faith, was two months old, we were driving home from my dad's house and she was just screaming and crying in the backseat. My husband made me a mix CD and I put it in. This song came on and the minute he started singing she stopped crying and started cooing. I played this song all the way home and she was completely content. She passed away from SIDS a couple of weeks after this. So this song has a special place in my heart and Otis Redding is one of my favorites now. God bless.
"Try a Little Tenderness", "These Arms" and "I've Been Loving You Too Long" are other great songs from him. This song was his greatest hit but it wasn't released until after his death.
Anything by Otis is pure gold. This song is timeless, but doesn't show his raw power. Check out some of his live material, the man was a true force of nature.
Released three days after his death. And that whistling part, because he wasn't alive to finish it. So sad. Listen to more Otis. He'll become one of your favorites.
His voice..."Oooooo" - yes, really. RIP Otis. You had so much to give. He died in a plane crash aged only 27. This record came out after his death, so he never knew how successful and iconic it became.
Another great oldie Sam Cooke ... "Another Saturday night" or "you send me" ... all the greats are going fast .. gotta show them the love for being Pioneers !!

Otis had his own band, the Bar-Kay’s. He started out of Georgia. The Temps were with Motown- Otis was with Muscle Shoals Recods in Alabama. He wrote Respect which Aretha made her own. He was a dynamic performer who died in a plane crash at age 26. I was blessed to see him at the Monterey Pop Fest six months before he passed. There’s great video on YT of that performance!

Checking in. Great song by Otis. Close your eyes and listen and see what you picture while you listen. Otis' voice is smooth I have to stop by and check your vids and have a laugh. Sometimes I'll have a couple of beers and drop some tears listening to this song.
I'm glad you asked Siri if he was still alive. Many of the songs you react to are from artists that are older or no longer with is. There is history in music behind every song. Music brings the generations together. Music appreciation is what you pass down to your sons. Music represents moments in time. Those moments can be current or memories from our youth. Music connects us to so many things.
In your own unique way, you are keeping all of those amazing artists who have passed on, alive for all of us. The greatest gift is the legacy of music that will last forever.
R.I.P. OTIS, HE WAS A DIAMOND, I used to listen to this song on cassette, while i was fishing in the Detroit River, this was my fishing song, COUSIN FIGEL
The King of Soul himself...so love this song. Lost this very talented young man too soon. "There is beauty in simplicity, whether you are talking about architecture, art or music." That was his take on making good (for the) soul music and most likely why he's still winning awards in the 2000s...you just brought back so many memories and made my whole day man, thank you xoxo.

For me the meaning of "nothing to live for and heading to the Frisco Bay" was a turning point for him. Now he realizes the beauty of life and is just sitting on the dock of the bay enjoying his new perspective. Its hard to listen to this song and not just admire the awesomeness that life provides. There is only high because there is low.
We lost Otis way too soon. He was such a soulful artist. You really should check out a live version of him doing "Try A Little Tenderness" The Monterey Pop Live version is killer.
Firstly, I squealed when I saw that picture of Elvis on your wall. Elvis fan for life! Otis was a great artist, great song and like a lot of them, taken from us too soon.
I love this song. I remember sitting on my grandmas back porch listening to this on vinyl. My gramma was from the south, and I grew up in really rural PA. This song brings back good memories. Just chillin.
Otis Redding co-wrote (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay with guitarist Steve Cropper and recorded it in late 1967. Otis Redding died in a plane crash only a few days after recording this song (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay. Steve Cropper mixed "Dock of the Bay" at Stax Studios in 1968. He added the sound of seagulls and waves crashing to the background, as Redding had requested, recalling the sounds he heard when he was staying on the houseboat. The song was released in 1968, becoming the first posthumous single to hit number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts.
Hey Mr. V! So excited for you to get to hear Otis Redding, please try some others of his you can’t go wrong with any of that, as always great reaction!❤️

Otis Redding had a smooth voice 💗. Tried getting reactors to do Dock of the Bay but you're the first. Enjoy this beautiful song 🤗🙌. I think it's reflection of wanting normalcy of home and family so far away but stuck with what he has to contractually complete 😓

Otis Redding was a Soul music pioneer in the 1950s and 1960s. Redding was very close to becoming a crossover Rock music star at the time of his death in a plane crash in 1967. Reportedly, the plane made an emergency water landing, and everyone got out of the plane, but most of the passengers froze to death in the icy cold waters in the Winter, waiting to be rescued. There are a handful of syndicated TV performances by Otis Redding available for viewing here on UA-cam. Chilling indeed.
Never knew that, but, as a young child in the 60's, I loved the song for the whistle
Wow I never knew that!
