Also, in the directions it says that you place the washer onto the fill valve and then put it in the tank and then install the lock nut underneath the tank. I think that you were saying to put the washer under the tank with the locknut.

THANK YOU! This video was extremely helpful! Scott was so easy to follow and understand. He truly goes step by step and I was able to successfully follow him one step at a time and changed my toilet out by myself! My first experience doing anything like this and this video made me feel like I could definitely take on this project- Scott was right! Thank you thank you!!

Very helpful vid with one HUGE exception. You state to put the shank valve washer goes on underneath the toilet when it goes on BEFORE putting the fill valve in. Now I have a big mess and have to take it apart again.

Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I'm a stay-at-home mom and I watched your video step by step and did finished the project all by myself!! I'm so super proud it's kinda funny! I ran into a couple snafus. My handle is on the side so the new handle didn't work, but I just used the old one for the time being. Thanks again for taking the time to make this!!

Thanks for a clear set of instructions. I watched your video a couple of times and I followed your instructions to "a" letter to install my FluidMaster. Unfortunately, our toilet is very old, difficult to access with frozen "rusty" nuts/bolts. These are the additional steps that I used to deal with my troublemaker toilet. 1. Turpentine worked better than rubbing alcohol and nail polish remover to wipe out residual old hardened rubber. If you do not wipe out the old rubber completely, it will cause leakage. In some parts that the rubber had hardened, I used my chiseling tool (similar to what doctors use to remove casts) to get it cleaned out first before turpentine. 2. I also used the same chiseling tool with a metal cutter to cut the "rusty" frozen bolts. 3. At some point you cannot tighten the bolts with a screw driver from the inside of the tank and the nuts from the bottom side are very difficult to access and manipulate. SOLUTION - The bolts in a toilet are long, so a TALL rachet/socket (1/2 inch) set will let you tighten or loosen the bolts easily using one hand from the bottom of the bowl. 4. A wet-vac came in handy to get all the residual water out of the bowl. Good luck.

Really nice tutorial. I would like to add a few more comments that may help people. First. Know where your main shut off valve is on your house. ( it usually is near the front spigot outside). If your ‘tis 30 years old or older the toilet shut off valve may fail. This is quite common. Test yours first. If you shut your valve and water still comes into the tank, your valve has failed. ( approx 50%) fail. Buy new valve get the 1/4 turn valves. Hope this advice helps some of you.

Have leak, and seemingly it has been an issue for a while. We lose water out of tank to below an inch if water valve is turned off for a few hours. Our toilet is 20 years old. So looks like we do need to replace all of the innards. Will have a friend do this. Thanks for the video. Very helpful.

Feeling pretty proud of myself right now...I did this all by myself. Great video! Easy to follow and made the project less intimidating. Two notes:
    1. The rubber washer goes INSIDE the tank on the valve mechanism - found that out from other comments and saved me from learning that the hard way.
    2. The red rubber gasket that connects the tank to the toilet that comes with this universal kit might not be right for your toilet. I had to run back to the Home Depot to get the right one for my toilet. There’s another helpful video about this in UA-cam.
But the process was super helpful.

Great tutorial, Scott! I live in Mexico, and in our city, the water is HARD, and I mean the gypsum sticks to everything, and there isn't much you can do about it, so I need to do this more often than you think. The great thing is that the whole shebang only runs $8 USD. And the labour rate you quoted is about 4,700 Mexican pesos, so that is about 21% percent higher than my monthly rent ... HAHA!!! Ohhhhh myyyyyy!
Yeah, I know that this is an old video, but I sure hope that others caught the major error here and don't install the shank with the shank washer on the BOTTOM OUTSIDE of the tank like was done here.
That shank washer does NOT go there! It goes on the shank with the beveled side into the hole (from inside the tank).
The nylon nut then goes on the bottom of the tank and literally touches the Porcelain.
The way it was done here had that nylon nut hanging off of the shank washer which destabilizes the shank and WILL cause leaks at some point!
    .
Anyone can check the instructions right from Fluidmaster.
It's shown clearly. As well, videos from professional plumbers, who uses Fluidmaster valves, show how it's done right.
Honestly, I'm surprised that this video wasn't corrected and reposted.
*Please, don't just believe me. Go to Fluidmaster's site and look at the instruction sheet.

Clear, clean video, Scott. I did okay but I have a small leak coming from the bolt that connects the tank to the bowl. I'm bot sure I have the correct arrangement of metal and rubber washers. Inside the bottom of the tank, I placed the bolt with a rubber washer. At the bowl where it connects to the tank, instead of just a metal washer and nut on the end of the threaded bolt, I also included a rubber washer. But I'm thinking the extra rubber washer at this point is the problem. I have a picture of it, but don't think I can send here. Any advice certainly appreciated.

thankful your helpful video, recently I change a full set of the toilet, It seems perfect, but the flushing power of water on the flushing is so weak that a piece of toilet paper cannot flush away although the water level is set at the max height and no obstacle on the flush way. I am looking for your suggestion. Thanks

The toilets flushed normal before the rework? In other words it is a good toilet design?

it is not necessary to turn the water off at the outside shutoff in order to replace the supply line. The sutoff valve under the tank will shut the water off at the valve and all you need to do is unscrew the supply line at the shutoff valve and replace it with the new flex line.

Great video. Unfortunately it keeps leaking from where my supply line meets the fill valve. Not sure how much tighter I can make it.

Is the rubber gasket in the connector? Perhaps some Teflon tape?

In the directions that come with the kit, there is another rubber washer that gets put under the tank with the metal washer and the nut on each bolt.

Great video except at least in my toilet, you put the rubber gasket on the float tube before you put it through the hole on the bottom of the toilet so gasket is in the toilet not under toilet. Once I figured that out, no leaks
