Fluidmaster is better than korky
Oh man after this install I totally agree. This was a complicated install.
Korky flappers are good I like fluidmaster ballcocks better
Both crazy korky is much better,I will never go back to fluidmaster
I love FIUidmASTETr
@@jimdomiano4552 same, fluid master flappers degrade so fast. Korky ones are way more sturdy.
I watch a ton of “fix it”, tool test, “how to”, and review videos. I am also a contractor, and can fix most things. I love your video. It is probably the best and most thorough “how to”, I have seen. Your lighting and camera angles are soooo good, it leaves little in question. I will be watching a lot more of your library!
Love the real life situations you encounter 😊
Thank you. When helping people out you never know what you’ll get into.
This was so helpful, I installed this just yesterday and I had the same issues with the gap and tank moving.
This video was an absolute life saver! Thank you so much. ❤
Oh my gosh, that was a lot of steps to fix it, but it looks like it is going to be okay for a good while now. Glad to know there are work arounds when Kits are not in stock.
Yeah it was a lot. Maybe too much really.
That's awesome I just installed one of there Korkys about 20 minutes before seeing your video. I was also concerned about the wobble of the tank and was uncomfortable going any tighter so I'll get some of those shims and revisit my tank n get r done...
Awesome video brother. Definitely going to help some people out with this one. Have a great weekend buddy
Thank you Steve. It may help someone, but I don’t wish this job on anyone. Weekend has been full of work, but still pretty good.
So glad I got the Fluid master fluid valve package and not this one. Replaced it by myself with help watching this video, Thanks!
I just installed this same kit. It seemed overcomplicated in it's design and a little flimsy, but it's working.
Great video! You helped answer my concern - it’s normal for new sponge gasket to cause a big gap to toilet before tightening. Thanks
This is a very helpful tutorial, you explained every step in enough details. THANK YOU.
I just had a korky kit install yesterday and my tank is really wobbling and leaking ☹and it's truly driving me, so today I went bought the fluid master hopefully I can get it installed properly 🙏
1st thing I want to say is to thank you for your service, I came across you on Facebook. Notice a plumbing job you were doing underneath a bathroom sink. I found you on UA-cam and you caught my interest, I just subscribe to your channel and will be looking forward to many more videos. I am a DIY kind of guy who likes repairing or replacing things if I can, and the more information you could get on doing these things the more knowledgeable you become, and also save money. I also like that you put up the tools you can use or get to do the job right down to the detail.
Your welcome and thank you for watching. This journey is all about helping people. Any way I can do that I will try.
I like the Korky Fill-Valves, better than FluidMaster.
I am tired of the Flapper valves. Both Korky and Fluidmaster trickled out and cause fathom/Ghost flushs. I switched my 2-piece toilet to the new Kohler cylinder type and finally not more Ghost-Flushes.
Does your overflow value leak too?
Thay Korky is quirky!! Thanks for telling me where the shut off valve should be installed.
Your welcome.
I tried getting rusted out bolts with a socket, pliers, everything I could get my hands on. I even considering cutting the bolt. Then I had the idea of trying good old WD-40. That worked excellent! I sprayed it on the bolt. By the time I got myself to the floor and ready to wrangle that bolt again, the WD-40 kicked in and worked its magic! I twisted it once with pliers, and after that it was finger loose enough to unscrew with my fingers! Happy Day for me!!!
Very Nice video. Thank you so much.
Nice job.. that's how it feels sometimes. 😂
Bought my house in October and every so often the toilet will make this groaning sound when it's flushed, by this exact kit back in November and have yet to replace it... Guess this is my sign to do it. Lol.
Have you done one of these before. If not may I suggest returning for a fluid master kit. I think it is a bit more user friendly.
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your video❤ ❤❤❤❤
have to start hoarding toilet rebuild kits before the hoarders get them LOL
😂 it was crazy to see them all gone. I’m guessing people are not trying to pay the crazy pricing around here these days.
It's a supply chain issue maybe?Idk?.Certain plumbing parts are out 6-9 months .3" and 4"Corazon CPVC fittings were 7 months out last year for example .Jobs have been delayed right and left nowadays because of it .
Thanks good info well explained👍👍
korky products are fine but fluidmaster is simple and does what it needs to do without having issues.
I agree Jack. Was wondering what you thought of this set up.
Thank you so much
Went to go rebuild 3 of my buddy’s dads toilets, ran into the same thing. No Fluidmaster rebuild kits! Had to order off Amazon!
Yeah it is very wild. They have some shortage at this point.
I've changed out alot of flush valves sometimes I use a sawzall to cut bolts loose between top of bowl and bottom of tank sometimes old brass flush valves couldn't loosen nut sawzall inside of flush valve down and into the nut take a screw driver and pop of the nut sawzall is your freind 😊
That is true. Saws all in this situation does work good when you can use one.
I just bought the Korky last night and about to install. The main driver for me was the fact that it said “Made in the USA.” I’m guessing the Fluidmaster is made in China because I couldn’t find where on the package. Also I splurged and paid $7 more and got the 2X one so hopefully it holds better than the regular one in the video. Said “stronger materials” 🤷🏻♂️
Great video
Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video!!!! It made this so much easier!
Thanks for your video it's very helpful, maybe I can share your tips with the person that will install the Fluidmaster kit for me.
Please re explain the flapper adjustment the height of water and top half of tank I didn’t understand what you meant
I've had issues with these water-hammering when a little port gets plugged. Takes 20 minutes to service it and it is fine. This is an yearly service for me.
Right on. I too like how easy it is to service.
An alternative to shimming between the tank and bowl is to cut out some of the bottom of the tank to bowl gasket or to use a thinner gasket.
Right on. I have never cut on a tank to bowl gasket.
That sounds like a red flag before even watching the video. 😧
This kit worked great. Disappointed it advertised as "complete kit" and did not come with a lever and arm. I had to drive back to the store to buy that separately not realizing it wasn't really a complete kit. Otherwise it worked great. I did end up buying the Korky lever and arm too, which was very easy to install.
Ah the old crane plebe !! Ps the kooky is nowhere near the quality of fluidmaster
I have to agree after this install. I usually enjoy doing this type of job, but this was a bit complicated at times.
Great video and information Brian, in my 65 years of life I have never had to replace the flush valve assembly just the flapper and fill valve assembly. What caused the flush assembly to go bad and the bolts to deteriorate was it cleaner or to much chlorine in the water?
I don’t think she uses toilet cleaner in her tank. Very high chlorine in the water. I’m going to shoot a video on testing the water at her house. Thank you Britt!
Try the hard water area that just devoured the metal on an old float lever flush valve assembly. Korky to the rescue. One warning never put the tank or the tank top up in the air.. It cant fall off the floor did mine on the carpet in the master bedroom you bust that tank you pull the toilet
I ended up pushing down on the tank to seat the tank onto the seal between the tank and bowl. If it had been really difficult to seat the seal into toilet bowl I would have put some silicone grease on the seal to make it seat completely.
Nice video homie
Thank you. So glad it could help.
Thanks for the vid, helped a lot --- However, in my kit (same as you show down to part#), tank nuts were 1/2"
I also wish Korky would supply wing nuts for the tank bolts (like Fluidmaster), in addition to the Hex nuts, but overall, I think the valve design is superior to FM and easier to adj.
OK TKS, Wait R&R I got that. Skipped over the flapper adjustment. Why mess with the flapper vent hole? What does the smaller & larger holes do? which way do you adjust?
You can put a nut on the under side of the screws before mounting it to the floor portion… there is plenty of room for that extra nut and then there is no danger of breaking the the tank so you can tighten it as much as you want.
It may not solve the wobbliness problem, but it does resolve the issue of any potential leaks due to the wobbliness.
I used the regular Korky flapper in the past works good but I don't think I will ever use their tank rebuild kit
If you use some plumbers putty on the tank to bowl bolts when putting them in you easy the problem of leaks….😋
Did you have to hold the lever down to flush? How can you adjust the lever so you don’t have to hold down the whole flush?
I installed the korky easy didnt need shims
Best way to remove the water from the tank or bowl is a small shop vac!
Yeah I only have a large one. One day I will upgrade.
I just used Korky to replace the flush unit. thought I was replacing the flapper valve, but mine is some weird thing that you can't hold down the handle to empty the water, because the part that the flapper valve sits on is about 2-3" above. I really think the plumber who did this one, did it incorrectly as there is virtually no room between the flush unit and the fill, I have a difficult time adjusting the little hose. and it STILL leaks. suggestions?
How much would a plumber charge for this job?
Just got quoted $385 for what he just did. That’s why I’m here.
Did everything to a T and still this toilet is leaking on 1 of the bolts. If it’s not the bolt on the right, it’s the one in the back. I followed the instructions and watched your videos,I did everything correctly and it’s still leaking. Very frustrating! Any suggestions?
Is that a hollow nut driver? I need one.
They are awesome! I don’t like my nut drivers any other way.
Brian, what's your thoughts on the Korky brand? .... going to stay with fluid master?
I like the fluidmaster. I would use the korky if I had to, but glad there are options.
I bought this exact toilet repair kit but the hole on the bottom of the tank seems to be too big for me screw on the nut on the bottom of the tank. Any suggestions?
You didn't explain why you had to play with the flapper and what the hole was for.
Hi Brian, I have an older, one-piece Toto. I can’t read the model number inside the tank. Unfortunately it was stamped on in ink which is now almost completely washed off, instead of being embossed into the ceramic. Anyway, do you think a “universal” rebuild kit from Fluidmaster or Korky would work on a Toto? Thanks for your help!
Not for a one piece
Flimsy and finicky
Too bad the "old" (more reliable) valve systems have been replaced. 🤨
The korky fill valves annoy me. Fluidmaster from now on
I like Korkys toilet flappers. There fill valves suck. Fluidmaster has better products than Korky.
"Not worth a box of cherries"
Wonder that myself. Thank you Shawn.
What I’ve done is get a new gasket instead of the one that it comes with and then it sits flat
Too many adjustments on the fly for this diy'r . Great job on your part though! I'll stick with Fluidmaster.
If fluidmaster is so good then why replace one that still looks good? I get the whole "replace everything and avoid problems" thing but it just seems wasteful, I’ve seen UA-cam videos where people do tank rebuilds and take out a fluidmaster valve that can’t be older that four years old. Here’s an example: ua-cam.com/video/HFLEoBAJj2E/v-deo.htmlsi=CReh_51qqiGuOkcp
That tank-to-base setup is extremely janky. That's not at all what Korky had in mind. I read about several personal accounts of the porcelain cracking due to trying to tighten it until flush, too. Not a fan of this Korky redesign whatsoever.

It would've been quicker to pull the WC and replace it! Some people would rather you replace the flush valve and flapper maybe tank to bowl gasket when they should've listened to you when you proposed replacing it .What a pain in the ass it turned out to be! Some people don't listen to common sense but all you can do is suggest a better solution .
I totally get it. It would have been way faster to replace it. Was surprised to see so many toilet rebuild kits were sold out. People are trying to save money right now it think.
