It's funny people meme on Skyrim for being the game that's released a million times, but I've bought RE4 WAY too many times
No such thing as too many 😍

I have to. I've even owned it on the wii and I'm not ashamed to say I'm buying this also...can't wait

All jokes aside, this remake is going to be off the chain! We need a Dino Crisis remake.
I played the original many years after its release on PC and the dated controls were painful even though I really did enjoy the game. I also said to myself that it would be really nice if they remade this with modern controls.

Great review! How long was a first time playthrough and are there additional modes to unlock?
You think they'll PSVR2-ize this one? I sure as hell hope so!
The added stealth mechanic does add gameplay variety for a survival horror genre with resource management. given the durability of the knife, since players were overly reliant on the knife to save ammo back then, hence the shop upgrades. I love how dynamically engaging the shop menu is, merchant is
They weren't overly reliant, it was simply fun. Remember fun?
@@stevenlornie1261 cool i do. if i remember correctly rephrasing what devs stated, for players being "reliant", hence as a way to punish players from the previous.

Capcom really hit it out of the park with these remakes. Obvious to see its not just a cash grab. Thanks for the great review!

Dino Crisis and Code Veronica remake’s would be incredible
Yeah but R3make was a big big big mistake that shouldn't be forgotten. The potential was HUUUUGE and nothing was done.
Code Veronica X deserves it the most I think, but I'd still really like to see RE5 being remade
@@julianezequielpdg7347 RE3 wasn't a favourite for many people to begin with, so I can see why they deprioritised it in favour of purring more effort into RE2 Remake, RE7, and RE4 Remake.

I cannot wait for the Mercenaries mode with the new mechanics like knife parry and the new weapons. Hope they have all the playable characters from the original.
Not just the original characters but hopefully add some new ones along with alternate costumes. Luis, Jill, Claire, Rebecca, maybe even some enemies like Saddler or a Las Plagas monster.

Karak giving a good review for a game you're excited for is always such a big relief. This is my most anticipated title in a good while and I had a good gut feeling about it. Capcom releasing the demo, having an early embargo etc. shows massive confidence that most AAA devs don't have these days. It's refreshing to have a company in the sphere that releases polished, technically/graphically impressive and just overall good games every year. Capcom is one of the GOATs and I hope they keep their momentum up for a long time.
I felt the same way about the Dead Space review
Polished? The game has performance problems on all platforms, the PS5 version has shimmering that is not visible on the Series X and their previous release RE8 was a mess on PC for months.
They're reselling the same game for the umpteenth time and people are praising this type of business practice.
Capcom are simply cashing in on nostalgia and as long as people applaud this type of behaviour it will continue.
Capcom are yet to Implement full ultrawide support in RE2 and the RE4 remake demo was exactly the same, i doubt they've fixed it either. Praising them for making the same mistakes over and over is why they keep doing so.
@@originalityisdead.9513 So what's wrong with nostalgia?

I agree I do really wish that RE2 got a patch that fixs the stories horrible conflict ( there only being one tyrant, Birkin G3 ) it took a good hit and a miss to really nail the same magic we got with Remake. I'm hoping this will make Re4 a better RE game in my eyes :)

"As you know I rate games on: What are you buying?, Good things on sale, or never touch it again."
Having played the demo, that "stiff" feel can definitely be resolved by adjusting sensitivities. I think they set it to be stiff initially for those who have high sensitivity systems. It is much easier for a low sensitivity system to increase values than it is for a high system to decrease them, especially when high sensitivity systems tend to be "jumpy" when not tuned right
Capcom need to get onboard with Code Veronica. Great review brother.
I recently replayed it for the first time since it came out. Holy crap it does not hold up. The story is probably the worst RE of all, and I'm including zero and 6. Environments make no sense whatsoever and the end half is utterly dull.
@@jeffreydean7556 what I tell everyone too but I think since it’s an older game everyone thinks it’s royalty. It’s not. However, if they do remake it have low expectations. It’s Capcom. They have a long history of making great games being followed up by mid/bad games

The small performance and texture issues are a ps4/XOne thing. They don't exist on PS5/XSX/XSS.
And even then, it's already a miracle the game runs that well on older consoles. RE Engine is too good.
RE4 is a fan favorite for a reason. Glad to see the devs put a lot of effort into the updated version.
Would love to hear which version you prefer and/or had the most fun with, remake or original?
Or are they too similar to decide
It's stated that there are performance issues on console (PS5 and XS), so he's likely going to stick with the PC version. It's not to say there won't be a patch to iron out those problems.
Based on the demo, the XS versions look better, but performance is a little smoother on PS5. But again, it's a demo.

CHHRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSS!!!!!!!!!
The spotty textures critique at the end is solely due to the fact that it's being optimized for previous gen consoles. Once games can be made exclusively for current gen and stop being held back by the PS4 then shouldn't be an issue.

Great review thank you, but if anyone knows is the deluxe items buyable with in-game currency like they did with RE3 REMAKE?
So Is it more stable with performance with rt or without? The onscreen text and script are different

This game makes me reminisce about my childhood. Can't wait to play this beautiful remake. Great review ACG!
An option to disable the yellow paint/tape is totally doable. Shadow of the tomb raider comes to mind specifically.
Regarding the yellow spray, Maybe they should have taken inspiration from Shadow of the Tomb Raider, where you can disable the help colour via the settings
Always the first review I look for, thanks ACG! Confirmed all the excitement I have for this remake!
I literally know next to nothing about this game. I'm a huge fan of RE 7 and RE 8 so I'm so freaking excited to play (what is to me) a brand new RE game! It looks amazing, thanks Capcom! :D

Does the PS5 version have have any extra features for the PS5 controller? I was debating whether I should get this on my PS5 or PC since i usually use controller for resident evil games. Im so used to keyboard + mouse now though. Is the optimization for PC good because Im not getting it for both.
Great take on the movement. I actually didn't enjoy the demo at first playthrough but as soon as I bumped up to the middle the aiming sensitivity the experience improved ten fold
This review wasn't just great, it had ballistics to.
any unlockable stuff after beating the game like infinite ammo?
I feel like the stealth mechanic & ground dispatch is a nice inspiration from TEW games (especially TEW2) in which also made by the og horror game master Shinji Mikami.
I was getting Evil Within vibes from the movement and the stealth. I can't complain, Evil Within is my favorite Horror game of all time.
the Chainsaw demo already cemented my pre-order. regards the optimization, it was the least of my concern, since RE engine is one of the engine releasing the least hardware demanding but eye candy visuals nowadays.
Glad to see one of my all time favorites got a quality remake although idk how they could mess this up! I call this my original last of us love because those two games have a special place in my heart throughout gaming for 28 year. Plus they are gonna add PSVR 2 eventually yes please!
I honestly consider this remake to be one of the greatest video games ever made. In my late 20s I’ve struggled to enjoy most video games in recent years with the exception of Elden Ring and Escape from Tarkov. This is the first story-driven game that has ever truly blown me away.
1. Did you have access to the deluxe version?
2. If so, what were your thoughts on the extra items, the skull shaker and sentinel nine? Were they worth the extra money?
A bunch of RE:4 reviews were in my recommendations but no ACG? Well I guess I'm gonna search for ACG and see if he has a review up.. cuz this channel has the only truly trustworthy, non-biased in depth reviews made by a dude I respect. Thanks for what you do bro.
I'm taking that Friday off work just so I can play this masterpiece, and I never request off for a video game.
Hey ACG,
The chainsaw demo had pretty mediocre sensitivity controls and lack of dead zone settings. Did you notice any additional settings full game?
Thanks
I love your reviews man; along with your integrity!
I played the original so many times that I can reliably blow through professional without any supply difficulties. What I'm really hoping for is some kind of brutalist difficulty, where items (and money, preferably) are extremely scarce. Let me agonize over whether or not I really _need_ that weapon upgrade.
I feel the same way. Beat normal 8 times, pro 5 times, then re-beat it again last year with the fan made remaster on pro. Here's hoping for a harder difficulty!
Not sure what your experience on the original has anything to do with this one....Considering a LARGE amount of things have changed including major story beats. Not sure how you'll magically handle supply chain issues in that circumstance. Also the fact that they've tuned the items to be a lot more scarce...So what you originally played is no where near what this is. Items a lot more rare, major story changes, plenty of location changes, plenty of enemy changes and a few additions. So genuinely curious why you think your previous experience helps here at all?
@@CrustedPork exactly, it’s a remake not a remaster. Play it on hard or whatever the highest difficulty is called and it should be tough enough, even if you have mastered original re4
@@CrustedPork It won't, and I'm not implying it would, beyond whatever experience I have playing third person games. What I'm looking for his long-term replayability and challenge.
@@MuchKoku From the leaks, the Professional difficulty is there
-No Autosave
-Only Perfect Parry
-Weapon modification is available from the start
I'm guessing there's some enemy swap here and there and of course, difficulty adjustment is set to the max
It's gonna be ironic if it turns out like the OG where playing at Pro is easier than Normal
Had so much fun with the demo I actually installed the classic game on PC, never played it and I'm enjoying recognizing the differences and throwbacks in the demo alone. Can't wait for this one!
Thanks as always for the amazing reviews!
A simple control mod would make the original game a much better experience, I think. I'm recently playing through it again and would have been content just being able to sidestep.
Awesome to hear, I loved the demo and got my preorder preloaded. Compared to the Dead Space remake these RE titles are more reboot than remak, which works better for these older titles. Can’t wait
Is there a early access window?
Would have loved a discussion on overall tone compared to the original, since the original’s quirkiness is why so many love it.
It's like a great b horror movie. They did an amazing job
Re2, Re3 (was short but still good) and Re4 are great remakes. Capcom is so hit and miss but genuinely this is what the older fans want. Both for themselves and so that people who never played the original can appreciate it in all its glory.
original fans? Really? Original fans want the original trilogy re-released finally. We don't need endless remakes. We need the original games.

I know thats meeting/slightly above the minimum specs but I was pleasantly surprised how buttery it ran. And that was in the village getting swarmed.
exact same engine as RE2remake (and3) , whatever your output was for that game running this one will certainly be comparable.
All of their remakes have been amazing, really looking forward to the full game after the demo. Hope 5 and 6 get the same treatment!
Might not get 5 also ill be skipping on 6 since i played it recently. I gave up on 6 when it came out but i decided to finished it and honestly im fine skipping it if a remake comes out. Only REs that are good are 4 and the ones that came out before.

After the phenomenal remake that was Dead Space, I'm ready for one more - looking forward to it.
I have very fond memories of Resident Evil 4, I'm so EXTREMELY excited for the game, basically vibrating in my chair. Your review has now made said vibrations to outright jackhammering, might have to change the floor soon!
Review is very meh tbh, showed the same footage that has been seened by now every frame every parry and etc. Honestly what's the point of getting early reviews If your chained down to only show what your allowed to show.
Capcom restricting what reviewers can show in their reviews is unacceptable. I would have wished that you waited until release and then release a 'uncensored' review video. I know atlest one channel who did this. Things like this must be surpressed right when they start or the'll get out of hand. F Capcom for this!
I mean I wouldn’t want the whole game being spoiled in a review but that’s just me.
@@TheGreenEyedMoose The restrictions are stricter than you think. No cutscenes, not even stuff that was already shown, only gameplay from the first twenty minutes and gameplay from chapter 7 are allowed. This makes it impossible to show parts of the game that have fps drops for example. That's the reason why acg only mentions the fps drops without footage. It should be the reviewers choice what they show or don't show. Within reason obviously.
Companies restricting rewies like in this case is not acceptable.

4 hours into the PC version with a good rig and a 3080TI; this game runs and looks like PC games should in 2023( All maxed including RT 2k 120-130fps, with a big stutter on loading new areas). Everything about the presentation is of the highest quality. The only problem I have so far, there really seems like there should be not necessarily a dodge but a football juke or sidestep. The combat and player control is in between action combat and traditional RE ( it is not as big of a leap in player control as I think the game design calls for). I am referring to many things even outside of combat. You can interact and climb certain objects enough in the environment, to the point I questioned why there were so many instances where I assumed I should have been able to climb or interact with ( the environments are so detailed, I would have hoped for more interaction with them). The only criticism I have is basically a wider animation tree for combat as well as interactive animation with the environment. Otherwise, the game is amazing so far.
I totally agree that Capcom has been the best of all the companies at producing remakes of their classics.
I'm kinda amazed at how little they allowed you to show. Was most of that gameplay just things that have already been shown? Luckily you still gave it a buy and I was already fairly certain I was going to love it.
It is a bit concerning, isnt it? When was the last time he couldnt show or say something in a review?
@@BenD0v3r32 Well in thou2 he held his review back until he could openly talk about it as the company was trying to hide many things since they openly lied with their advertisements of the game. ACG gave it a wait for a sale or deep sale and I don't think I have to bring up the reception for that game. This time though he didn't feel like he had to hold back the review and he gave it a buy rating so I doubt it'll go horribly wrong.
