Another important improvement in this remake is that enemies speak proper Spanish (without the Latin-American accent of the original game). @DigitalFoundry Guys, I noticed a little stuttering in the village, but when I came to the castle (meeting with Garrador), the stuttering began to rage. This is most obvious when meeting Novistador. Please report these issues to CAPCOM! PS5/Any mode
Glad to see John give the fantastic RE 4 HD Project mod a shout out. 1.0 came out a few months back and replaces every single texture in the game with a higher quality version. While staying amazingly faithful to the original. The author of the mod even made some trips to get source photos at some of the same locations the developers visited when making the original.
Get it on the PS5 plays beautifully! I was rethinking buying the game at all cuz Leon felt Slug-ish control wise. But on the final release he controls amazingly 🎮 shimmering can almost be eliminated by changing TV picture settings. Any other visual issues I encountered a closing the game and restarting from dashboard solves them no game breaking bug encountered though.
Hoping they release a patch in the next couple of days to improve the deadzones on Xbox. But REVillage has them, not as bad, but they are there and from what i remember they never bothered to patch it or even address it.
Playing the game on the PS5, really amazing game visually and control wise 👌 changing the TV settings a bit almost eliminated the shimmer. CAPCOM are experiencing a golden age hope they follow with Onimusha or Dino Crisis. That said sorry you guys on XBOX have to deal with sub par controls i would be pissed if I bought it full price and deal with that hopefully it gets fixed up soon. Xbox accounts should tag CAPCOM US and Japan to raise awareness on the issue.
I feel like the Quest 2 version deserves more attention. It's a full port to Unreal 4 with higher res textures then any version to date and motion controls. I thought it was gnna be the best version of RE4 forever until they announced the remake, and I kind of still think so until they add VR support for this version. Even then...it'll take years for it to be playable on some futuristic mobile headset.
I have been getting display visual artifacts on ps5 on framerate mode. The visual artifacts are blue or green flashes at the bottom of the screen. Switching to resolution mode seems to fix it

Took a week's vacation to play this and so far I'm about 5 hours in, and it has exceeded all expectations. I'm shocked so far how true the environments even are to the original, they didn't take any shortcut. If I had to say anything bad, I would say the game is so good, it's very hard to go back to the 2 and 3 remakes. While I like them both for different reasons, the thing is that they are both so short and linear, that the RE4 remake makes them feel like a tech demo because it's literally 5 times the game. They said Mercenaries Mode will also be coming as a free update. This game is going to stay in my system for about 6 months just like when the original came out, because I didn't remove it until I finished it about 20 times. This time it could be more.
I love that you can turn on hair strands. I always thought the hair just looked weird and fuzzy in re2 and re3 remakes and Leon's hair looks so much better with the strands turned on.
You said "sublime Resident Evil Village", do we not recall the stuttering when you fired a gun and completely broken frame rate when the fly ladies were on screen? How many months did that take to fix?
What did Guerrilla Games do to fix the shimmer issue on the performance mode in Horizon Forbidden West? Is this the same issue in the RE4 remake? Couldn't Capcom use the same technique to fix it? As for the control lag issue on Xbox Series, wouldn't a larger VRR window with the rubberbanding refresh rate be the culprit of the perceived control issue? If they raised the actual frame rate by lowering the resolution window a bit, it should make less VRR rubberbanding which should help with the control issue some.

Playing the opening hours my only visual dissapointment is the distant terrain. It is muddy and quite low fidelity. Could have used a matte painting pass or higher res bakes to simulate distant scattering of vegetation like forests or shrubbery. It continues to be a lacking area in a few games as game dev artists seem to rely too heavily on terrain erosion heightfields and using them raw in game with only a colour map and normals to define it's detail. I would suggest taking a more VFX Film pipeline where assets such as these are treated as a 'matte paintings' which would tie into the high quality foreground levels a lot better.
The resolution mode had regular stutter even with an VRR TV (LG C9) on my PS5. Idependently from the framerate, the camera did not follow Leon in a smooth matter but seem to be strictly tied to his back. As the steps of him were not uniform even at constant speed, this resulted in a strange 'pumping' effect of the camera. Just try this yourself. Just walk forward and look at the left or right side of the screen. You see that the speed of everything changes about 2 times per second.

You can literally have a 10 year old CPU and still be good to go with any card from 3080 and above. The only bottleneck now is pretty much the GPU. Also with a 4090 say goodbye to shader compilation frame drops. 4090 is the only card that eliminates any shader compilation or traversal stutter. Another important improvement in this remake is that enemies speak proper Spanish (without the Latin-American accent of the original game). You might think it is a nitpick, but... imagine, for example, if everyone in the Harry Potter films spoke with an American accent (or type "Harry Potter Cast Speak American English!" in the search bar).

They changed the AA method i believe.
@@Solidsnake724 yeah it had to do with the method of sampling and reconstruction order. Not sure if it was an actual AA change just an adjustment on instruction order.

Thanks John. Your work is easily among the best in the industry.

The resolution mode had regular stutter even with an VRR TV (LG C9) on my PS5.
