While its a shame there isn't any kind of branching paths, the originals choice system wasn't hugely impactful either, in fact it got complaints for being quite shallow and the multiple endings were barely even able to be considered multiple as they had almost no difference except who flies the helicopter. The repeatability never really came from the choices after say the second playthrough so I feel like it's likely not that big of an impact here again. The original was notoriously short as well so I don't think these are really issues with the fact it's a remake and more just issues with Resident evil 3 as a whole, both the original and the remake, sadly they just didn't address them well.

The original RE3 had a similar reception as well. It stood shallow comparing to RE2, it was more of a quick cash-grab back in the time that came out way too quickly. I wish Capcom had a plan to solve RE3 being an inferior sequel to the amazing RE2 or at least make the game 40$ if they didn't have such a plan.
I was wondering about this. Back then, perhaps it was the only option, but nowadays we have DLC as an option. Perhaps RE 3 Remake would’ve been better as DLC for RE 2 Remake.
Except original RE3 wasn't shallow. It was very nice game with alternative routes and terrifying Nemesis. While in remake they deleted all famous cutscenes, locations and those alternative choices... And for what? I can't find the answer. Also OG RE3 didn't downgrade physics of RE2. OG RE3 is way better made game in comparison with remake!

@@WhopyStompy Nemesis is shown to be tougher than he ever was. He's just not a constant presence like Mr. X is in the remake. They were working on this while working on RE2. The MP mode was outsourced to another dev team. The majority of the cut content is the Clock Tower, the Park, and the extra Tyrants. The Clock Tower was totally bypassed (for the better in my opinion) and the last two could probably end up as part of DLC campaigns from the point of view of other characters. The park portion would work for a Nikolai DLC since it is kinda odd for Jill to always show up at places he purposely does shady things in. The Tyrants vs. Military portion would fit as Umbrella Mercenary content to show some of Umbrella's cleanup or a scenario from the point of view of the Military to show more of the Birkin tragedy.

Seems to me they rushed it to release it while Resi2 name is still hot. So they polished it to not look like Assassin's Creed on release but they cut content and quickly mashed together a mediocre multiplayer, maybe even paste and copied from some previous title with updated graphics.
They did exactly what they did with the original RE2 and 3. RE2 came out in 98, RE3 came out in 99. Assets were reused because they took place in the same general area during the same time period, with RE3 acting as bookends for RE2.
Gonna buy this, but this one feels even less like a "remake." It feels more like a full on reboot/reimagining. Plus there's missing content from the 1999 original.
I think people forget Jill is not a rookie and she has already experienced from RE1, unlike Leon and Claire. The faster paced action only makes sense. Thats the reason why RE1 and RE2 are so beloved for the slower paced but that was in the beginning when there were still a lot of unknowns.
You know, the time and money they spend designing the multiplayer, creating the maps and modeling the characters is time and money they could have spend in the single player, specially when you realize that some levels from the original game are shortened or absent in this remake
Besides the clock tower, I doubt that many fans of RE3 are missing the cut areas. The park and the water treatment plant were always dull, and Gravedigger is one of the worst boss fights from the ps1 trilogy.
RE3 remake is extremely short on extra content, and most of the story got cut, but damn, I still love this remake. I think it's excellent. I have beaten it over a dozen times and I am still playing it.

OG RE3 was made internally by developers as a sort of fan/fun project to pitch or show the higher-ups ;but when Code Veronica, which was the originally intended number sequel RE3, fell behind due to console jumping they decided to which focus to OG RE3 as THE RE3 they were going to make. They were able to use a lot from RE2 because that's what was there and used when the developers first started if really as a fan project. The OG RE3 had more zombies so a lot of effects were toned down from RE2 so they could fit all of them onto the screen with the PlayStation's limited memory at the time. If you want to see a "true" OG RE3 in terms of intention, resources, and creativity look at RE Code Veronica. It's still super weird how this RE3 kinda follows the same "development circumstances" as OG RE3. We have the rumored RE8 with werewolves and Ethan returning in 1st person that was apparently scrapped and started fr scratch again in 2018 along with the next generation of consoles on the horizon. If rumors are true then RE8 *not going to called that* was planned to be a PS5 launch title but this was after the supposed restart of development. That being said I can't wait to go home and play R3make I love RE and have all the games. OG RE3 was my first PS game that I had to play with my dad because I was so scared of the zombies.

@Juggernaut Ocelot yeah but you didnt know it unless you tried all combinations. also it did make a difference, you unlocked unique areas each time
I feel like this game should've been a Fall 2020 or next year game. Locations are cut, no Mercenaries, no alternate endings
What locations?!
@Daryl Dixon but you DO visit the police station.

@David Holesch which decision? Was it the one in the clock tower (fire or flee)
Calling it "alternative endings" is a bit of a stretch.

Except original RE3 wasn't shallow. It was very nice game with alternative routes and terrifying Nemesis. While in remake they deleted all famous cutscenes, locations and those alternative choices... And for what? I can't find the answer.

How, when I listed all that RE2R leaves out?
By itself, if I've never played the original, RE2R would be on par with REmake in it's own right.
But knowing how much was left out of RE2R, while REmake kept everything and added more, doesn't put them as equals, for me.
You can put them at the top of your list, but obviously you're not being objective with your reasons why.
There's fans out there that put RE5 or RE6 above all others, and that's their opinions and preferences. But, it doesn't make them objective when judging the series as a whole by each game basis.
also the fact it has less puzzle solving makes me sad, that's what made the original games great, its almost like modern-day creator don't have a clue on how to make good puzzle-solving games SMH! or they just think Action makes up for everything!

Great review! Unfortunate that it's not quite as good as RE2 Remake
@@shinzero0271 RE3 didn't share anything with 2. Only thr police station which is only in the game for 10 minutes.
